Survivor - Riley Ruckus/Nick Nack

A/N: Another fic for @soheavyaburden​ ‘s A Year Of Whump.

“Existential dread?” Nick speaks softly, looking over at Riley who is definitely not as steady as usual. He knows why. Riley had always known her purpose but without Mortimer, without Owen, it’s harder to know what to do or why they should even try.

“Little bit.”

Riley’s eyes close and she sighs. She doesn’t usually talk so softly but there’s a broken-ness to the way she breathes that makes Nick pause before he comes closer, his arms wrap around her as they stand. Being a survivor isn’t easy for either of them, the losses of Mortimer and Owen have hurt them and Daisy had retreated away from Riley who looked all the more pained when Daisy’s scream echoes from behind her door.

“That doesn’t help…”

“Give her time Love…”

His eyes close at the words and he’s surprised to hear her laugh.

“Love, huh? Care to prove that hypothesis?”

Maybe, he thinks, just maybe, it will be worth risking it all.

I’m peridot, lurker, rambler, Brainrot, avid cartoon person. I don’t post often but I’m trying to be more often and creative now!

I got the lyrics from https://lyricstranslate.com which also contained the translated version of one of my favorite songs from “Notre Dame De Paris” sung by the talented Daniel Lavoie as Frollo (He’s considered to be the best out all Frollo the interpretations by fans.) I just adore this piece along with “Être prêtre et aimer une femme” (Being a priest and be in love with a woman. Hopefully my basic French translated this corrected) alongside “Belle”, “Vivre” (to live), among others songs. Here’s the translated verse using this amazing page.:

I could have predict that

from the first day,

This piece is inspired by “Tu me vas a detruire” (You’re going to destroy me.) Originally Nick was not going to carry Riley’s body but rather hold her with an insane smile with the second verse of this song as the description or the third verse of the Italian version of this song “Mi distruggerai” I ended up changing the idea since it just looked awkward but I don’t think it captures much the spirit of the song. I don’t think this piece it nearly captures the spirit, but it did inspire me to do a Nick x Riley drawing (Since Nick canonically has a crush in the scientist.)

I also wanted to do another one with both of them with my favorite line from “Être prêtre et aimer une femme” but using the English version (which is probably one of the few I like since the English versions aren’t as great as the OG French songs.) I think that it was the best and most poetic translation from the OG French which translated to:

“The hell you go, I’ll go there too and it will be Paradise” 

(Not sure if it was like that, but I remember it translated to this.)

It is poetic along with the whole verse, but I like how the English version translated and altered (so it worked perfectly with the song in general):

“ For Hell, with you, is Paradise”

Which I thought it was more fitting to how I think Nick may feel about Riley, hating the fact that he loves her but living in this hell (Both games) will be paradise for him as long as she’s beside him. The drawing would be just them interacting with aggressive love reactions I suppose.

Ok, regarding this illustration it doesn’t really have a clear story or context. It’s just up for interpretation whether he’s carrying Riley’s lifeless body or she’s just unconscious. For me, it’s just Nick carrying Riley’s unconscious body across the stage to a safe place as he mutters to himself how much he hates the fact that he loves her.  They’re also human for dramatic purposes (The OG characters would look weird, but in future drawings I'll make up to the torso)

After hearing freaking Nick slipping that he has a crush on Riley on the beta version of the midnight show, I can stop thinking about Nickley
