i think it's interesting that almost all the most popular mlm media right now is focused on the trope of a boy who knows he's gay x a most likely bisexual boy who doesn't realize he's bisexual until the other boy comes around. like, it's everywhere. heartstopper with nick and charlie. red, white, and royal blue with henry and alex. young royals with simon and wilhelm. and dead boy detectives with edwin and charles and stranger things with mike and will, even though they aren't canon (yet!!!!).

i don't actually have any conclusion about this, but i still think it's interesting that this seems to be the most prominent trope rn.

Heartstopper, RWRB, and Young Royals all feel like AU multichapter fanfiction adaptations.

Young Royals is the very-long but very-well-written one that’s on everyone’s rec lists and has over 5k kudos on AO3.

Heartstopper is the 65/? chapter one that’s written by an earnest teenager who grew up in queer online spaces.

RWRB is the fluffy one with 10 chapters that you skimmed through quickly except the 7th chapter which is bookmarked because it has the most incredible sex scene you’ve ever read, but you’ve never thought twice about the rest of the story.

Randy Harrison (Justin) - Redzone Interview - Queer as Folk

I often wonder what Randy thinks about the actors in the shows Heartstopper and Young Royals who also portray 17 year old lgbtqia+ characters. Having been a child actor the same way as Kit and Edvin have is interesting. Also, how the public treat them. I wonder if he can relate and also if he appreciates how far things have come in 20 years that these shows exist and are popular worldwide. He seemed to have been typecast into gay roles, so can probably relate to Joe's sometimes hope that he doesn't always play a gay character. He also got so few on screen roles after queer as folk and worked hard in theatre. The fact that Joe and Kit have such a wider choice is great progress. I also love that in QAF, Randy's character created gay superhero comic book characters and tried to get it turned into a film that Hollywood cancelled. And now Joe is playing one of the most famous gay comic book characters in a big show on the Disney channel! Though Wiccan and Hulkling are VERY different to Rage and JT!
