Speaking of jewels and gems and entertainment... Portrait of Queen Elizabeth I – Nicholas Hilliard – c. 1575. This painting is known as the “pelican portrait” because of the pendant on her breast, that symbolizes selfless love for her family and country. Apart from this brooch there's enormous amount of precious decorations, including embroidery with pearls and precious stones. And it doesn't feel like too much))) You see, she was far from contemporary minimalism, of cause, but our Gucci-like exaggerated maximalism also looks like poor taste next to her. And I wouldn't explain it as simple as "time dictates its rules". I think today the only rule is complex vision and sense of beauty.
