Six Ohio State Players Selected in 2022 NFL Draft
Tumblr media
Ohio State University has one of the most distinguished college football programs in the United States. The Buckeyes football team, founded in 1904, has won 40 conference titles and eight national championships, the most recent of which was in 2014. The school has also done a great job at preparing athletes to play in the National Football League (NFL). Fifty-two former Buckeyes were on NFL rosters at the beginning of the 2022 season, which was second to only the University of Alabama. Six Buckeyes were selected in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Wide receivers Garrett Wilson and Chris Olave headlined Ohio State's 2022 NFL Draft class, as they were selected back-to-back at 10th and 11th overall by the New York Jets and New Orleans Saints, respectively. Wilson was the first Ohio State receiver to be selected in the first round of the NFL Draft since the Miami Dolphins took Ted Ginn seventh overall in 2007. His first-round selection marked seven consecutive years in which a Buckeyes player was drafted in the first round.
Named a first-team All-American by the Athletic and the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA), Wilson finished the 2021 season with 70 catches for 1,058 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns. He is tied for eighth all-time in career receiving yards (2,213) by an Ohio State player. He is also tied for eighth in program history with 143 career receptions and ranks seventh with 23 career touchdowns.
Olave, selected by the Saints one pick after Wilson, was the ninth Buckeyes receiver ever taken in the first round of the NFL Draft. A team captain in 2021, he finished his senior year with 65 catches for 936 yards and 13 touchdowns and was named first-time All-American by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA). Olave holds the Ohio State record for most career touchdowns (35) and is third and fifth, respectively, in receptions (176) and receiving yards (2,711).
Offensive tackle Nicholas Petit-Frere (Tennessee Titans), tight end Jeremy Ruckert (New York Jets), defensive end Tyreke Smith (Seattle Seahawks), and offensive lineman Thayer Munford (Las Vegas Raiders) were the other four Buckeyes selected in the 2022 NFL Draft. Petit-Frere, chosen 69th overall in the third round, is a 6-foot-5, 315-pound tackle who was considered among the best in college football at his position last season. He was named first-team All-American by CBS Sports and the FWAA.
Ruckert, also selected in the third round, is a 6-foot-5, 252-pound tight end who played 46 games for the Buckeyes from 2018 to 2021 and was included on the 2021 Mackey Award Watch List for the top tight ends in the country. Smith, a fifth-round selection, was a key member of the Buckeyes defense who won three Big Ten titles with the team. He concluded his Ohio State career with 55 tackles and seven sacks.
Munford, selected in the seventh round, earned four all-Big Ten Conference honors in his five-year career at Ohio State and was an AFCA first-team All-American in 2021. He was awarded the Ohio State Block “O” jersey for displaying unmatched character, toughness, and accountability in 2021.
Two other players on the Ohio State roster in 2021 signed free agent deals with NFL teams. Defensive tackle Garrett Haskell signed with the Titans, while running back Master Teague III signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Outlook
This is the third divisional game of the year for the Denver Broncos, they have lost all of their divisional games this year. The Broncos net points in divisional games this year is -12. The offense has played better within the division, they’re averaging 20 points per game. Overall they’re averaging 14.6 PPG. Overall the defense gives up 17 points per game. In divisional games the defense has been awful! They are allowing 26 points per game. CAN you see the CATASTROPHIC flaw? I ask because the defense gets some much praise. It’s as if they’re a political party that only listens to themselves. They have no idea what the other side of the team is doing. If they did, they’d stop talking about how little yards they allow and start talking about all the points they give up. "We allow just enough points for the other team to win." --my motto for the Denver D.
The Raiders are averaging 27 points per game in divisional play and their defense allows 26 points per game. A winning combination, if Josh could learn how to close out games.
Two big news items dropped this week. Local media reported that Russell Wilson was calling Seahawk audibles at the line. The other big new item was that Coach Nathaniel Hackett has given up his play calling duties. The new play caller is Klint Kubiak who is also the Quarterback coach.

[ad_1] The Titans have completed signing their total draft class. Jim Wyatt of the crew’s web site studies that the Titans have signed quarterback Malik Willis to his rookie contract. After spending two seasons as a backup at Auburn, Willis emerged as a beginning QB following his switch to Liberty College. In 23 video games between two seasons, Willis accomplished 62.4 % of his passes for five,107 yards, 47 touchdowns and 18 interceptions. He was additionally productive on the bottom, dashing for 1,822 yards and 27 touchdowns on 338 carries.Because of his efficiency in faculty, Willis was projected to be one of many first QB prospects off the board throughout the 2022 draft, with some pundits predicting that he could possibly be a first-round decide. He ended up being the third QB chosen (behind Kenny Pickett, Steelers and Desmond Ridder, Falcons), with the Titans taking Willis with the No. 86 decide within the draft. Throughout OTAs and minicamp, Willis was working behind Ryan Tannehill and Logan Woodside. There’s a great likelihood the rookie QB will slide in third on the depth chart for a lot of the 2022 marketing campaign. With the signing, the Titans have now inked their total draft class:Spherical 1: No. 18 (from Saints by means of Eagles) Treylon Burks, WR (Arkansas) (signed)Spherical 2: No. 35 (from Jets) Roger McCreary, CB (Auburn) (signed)Spherical 3: No. 69 (from Jets) Nicholas Petit-Frere, OT (Ohio State) (signed)Spherical 4: No. 86 (from Raiders) Malik Willis, QB (Liberty)Spherical 4: No. 131 Hassan Haskins, RB (Michigan) (signed)Spherical 4: No. 143 Chig Okonkwo, TE (Maryland) (signed)Spherical 5: No. 163 (from Steelers by means of Jets) Kyle Phillips, WR (UCLA) (signed)Spherical 6: No. 204 Theo Jackson, CB (Tennessee) (signed)Spherical 6: No. 219 Probability Campbell, LB (Ole Miss) (signed) (function(d, s, id) var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.5&appId=125075807517358"; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs); (document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk')); [ad_2] Source link

This years 2022 NFL Draft is the seventh one that Titans GM Jon Robinson has overseen and it looks to be one of his best yet right up there with his first one and the one in 2019.
Before things got started Robinson traded WR A.J. Brown to the Eagles and moved up to pick 18 in the first round after contract talks stalled between Brown and the Titans.....
Draft analysis below provided by ESPN writer/reporter Turron Davenport
In round one with the 18th pick the Titans chose Arkansas WR Treylon Burks
At 6-foot-2, 225 pounds, Burks has a similar build to Brown. Burks can also work on the outside and in the slot.  Brown is slightly more explosive than Burks, but the two share the ability to shed defenders and pick up extra yards once they get the ball in their hands.
Tumblr media
In round two with the 35th pick the Titans chose Auburn CB Roger McCreary
McCreary is a solid pick, who some had as a first-rounder. He is a battle-tested cornerback who faced plenty of top wide receivers in the SEC. McCreary can play inside or outside and should compete for a starting spot immediately. At 5-11 and 190 pounds, he is physical and aggressive.
In round three with the 69th pick Titans chose Ohio St. OT Nicholas Petit-Frere
Petit-Frere gives the Titans a player who can challenge for the starting right tackle spot. He is a two-year starter who offers versatility -- he can also play left tackle.
In round three with the 86th pick Titans chose Liberty QB Malik Willis
Getting Willis at No. 86 is a tremendous value, as he was projected to be a first-round pick on multiple draft analysts' boards. Willis is a dual threat mobile playmaker who could become a future starter.
Tumblr media
In round four with the 131st pick Titans chose Michigan RB Hassan Haskins
Haskins gives the Titans a back used to carrying a heavy workload. He's a physical, downhill runner that wears down defenses -- which is exactly what Tennessee wants to do on game day.
In round four with the 143rd pick Titans chose Maryland TE Chigoziem Okonkwo
Okonkwo is a versatile, athletic tight end that can be used as a flex option or lined up over the numbers in addition to playing on the line. He can also play halfback and even take handoffs. Okonkwo compares to Jonnu Smith as far as build and athleticism.
In round five with the 163rd pick Titans chose UCLA WR Kyle Philips
Philips gives the Titans an option as a slot receiver. He’s one of those smaller, shifty players that could develop into a reliable pass catcher on third downs and in the red zone. Philips is a well-developed route runner that is sudden at the top of his route stems and able to to create separation. Also a punt return option.
In round six with the 204th pick Titans chose Tennessee safety Theo Jackson
At 6-1, 198 pounds, Jackson has positional versatility that will allow him to compete for a roster spot as a safety who can match up against move tight ends and bigger receivers. Jackson ran a 4.46-second time in the 40-yard dash at his pro day. That speed would help the Titans on kickoff and punt coverage units, especially as a gunner. Jackson had 78 tackles, 12 pass breakups and one interception last season.
In round six with the 219th pick Titans chose Ole Miss LB Chance Campbell
Campbell provides depth at inside linebacker and on special teams. He transferred from Maryland to Ole Miss and led the team with 109 tackles and posted 12.5 tackles for loss, six sacks and three fumble recoveries.
Tumblr media
According to Jim Wyatt of Titans Online, the Titans have agreed to terms with 17 undrafted free agents. The list is as follows:
OLB David Anenih (Houston)
CB Tre Avery (Rutgers)
RB Julius Chestnut (Sacred Heart)
DT Haskell Garrett (Ohio State)
ILB Jack Gibbens (Minnesota)
S Michael Griffin II (South Dakota State)
G Hayden Howerton (SMU)
WR Brandon Lewis (Air Force)
OT Jalen McKenzie (Southern Cal)
C/G Xavier Newman-Johnson (Baylor)
DT Sam Okuayinonu (Maryland)
DE Jayden Peevy (Texas A & M)
WR Reggie Roberson (SMU)
OL Andrew Rupcich (Culver-Stockton)

[ad_1] The NFL has continued to show its zero-tolerance policy as it relates to players gambling on games. The latest hammer the league has thrown came this week when the NFL suspended Colts veteran cornerback Isaiah Rodgers, Colts defensive end Rashod Berry, and free agent defensive lineman Demetrius Taylor indefinitely. Titans offensive lineman Nicholas Petit-Frere was also suspended for six games. This came after an investigation by the league that found Rodgers, Berry and Taylor all wagered on games during the 2022 NFL season. Rodgers and Berry have since been cut by the Colts. Meanwhile, Petit-Frere was only given a six-game ban because he bet on a non-NFL sport, but it came while at the team facility. Earlier this offseason, the NFL suspended five players for similar gambling infractions, including three Lions wide receivers -- Stanley Berryhill III (six games), Jameson Williams (six games) and Quintez Cephus (indefinitely). Lions safety C.J. Moore  (indefinitely) and Commanders defensive end Shaka Toney (indefinitely) were also suspended for gambling. Cephus and Moore were both released by Detroit shortly after their punishments were announced. So, in the course of one offseason, more players have been suspended by the NFL for gambling (nine) than all the prior seasons combined (five) in league history. Here's a look at each of those five players who previously ran afoul of the NFL because of gambling and what happened to them following their suspension.  Alex Karras (1963)One of the most dominant defensive players of the early 1960s, Karras was 28 when he served a one-year suspension after he admitted to placing bets on NFL games along with Packers running back Paul Hornung (more on him later). Before his suspension, Karras was urged by league officials to sell his financial interest in a Detroit-area bar following reports of gambling, among other things. Karras, who reprised his pro wrestling career during his suspension, was reinstated on March 16, 1964. He played seven more years for the Lions that included his third All-Pro nod and fourth Pro Bowl selection in 1965. Despite 100 career sacks and a spot on the Hall of Fame All-1960s Team, Karras was not enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame until 2020, nearly eight years after he passed away at the age of 77.  Please check the opt-in box to acknowledge that you would like to subscribe. Paul Hornung (1963)Nicknamed the "Golden Boy," Hornung's sparkling reputation was hardly tarnished despite his one-year suspension. An All-Pro kicker and running back prior to his suspension, Hornung returned to help the Packers win NFL championships in 1965 and '66. A neck injury forced a then 31-year-old Hornung to retire before the start of the 1967 season. A 1986 Hall of Fame inductee, Hornung holds NFL records for the most games with at least 30 points (twice) and 25 points (three times).  Art Schlichter (1983)As a rookie, the former Ohio State star attempted 37 regular-season passes with the Colts before he was suspended for the '83 season. Schlichter was suspended for 13 months after he lost nearly $500,000 betting on basketball games. Schlichter played just two more years in the NFL following his suspension, but he enjoyed success in the Arena Football League, where he was named league MVP after leading the Detroit Drive to a win in Arena Bowl IV. Schlichter recently completed a 10-year sentence after he pled guilty to chargers of theft and engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity. A former defensive back, Shaw was on injured reserve when he was suspended through the 2020 season after betting on NFL games. Shaw, who was a member of the Cardinals at the time of his suspension, has not played in an NFL game since he was reinstated on March 20, 2021.  Ridley, a former first-round pick of the Atlanta Falcons in the 2018 NFL Draft (26th overall), received an indefinite suspension in March of 2022 and earned NFL reinstatement during the 2023 offseason. During his time sitting out, the Jacksonville Jaguars acquired the talented pass-catcher for 2023 and 2024 conditional draft picks. Ridley's last full season came in 2020 when he put up a career-high 1,374 receiving yards and on a career-high 90 catches in addition to nine receiving touchdowns. His last game played was Week 7 of the 2021 season at the Miami Dolphins. From 2018-2021, the seasons Ridley has played in, only two members of the 2018 Draft amassed over 3,000 career receiving yards and 25 career receiving touchdowns: Ridley (3,342 receiving yards and 28 receiving touchdowns) and Baltimore Ravens All-Pro tight end Mark Andrews (3,466 receiving yards and 29 receiving touchdowns). The 2022 NFL Draft All-Name team
Tumblr media
Marvin Gentry-USA TODAY Sports
Who is the kind of names in the 2022 Draft?
At this point we all know the top prospects in the 2022 NFL Draft. The future All-Pros we can imagine leading our team to victory. For those of us with more unconventional desires it’s high time we turned our attention to the best names of the class.
Let me be clear: I unironically love these names. As someone with a fairly boring name that was butchered at Ellis Island when by great-grandfather emigrated, I could only wish to be called “Ty Fryfogle” or “Raleigh Texada.” Those are the names of heroes in ‘80s actions movies, and that’s before we get to Charleston Rambo, who was narrowly edged out at WR this year.
Here is my list for the all-name team of 2022, and after that we need to discuss the NROY (Name Rookie of the Year).
QB: Brock Purdy, Iowa State
RB: John Lovett, Penn State
FB: Monte Pottebaum, Iowa
WR1: Ty Fryfogle, Indiana
WR2: Shocky Jacques-Louis, Pitt
TE: Cole Fotheringham, Utah
OT: Nicholas Petit-Frere, Ohio State
OG: Sage Doxtater, New Mexico State
C: Zach Tom, Wake Forest
OG: Andrew Vorhees, USC
OT: Dare Rosenthal, Kentucky
DE: Big Kat Bryant, UCF
DT: Ralf Rusins, Liberty
DT: Ben Stille, Nebraska
DE: Amare Barno, Virginia Tech
LB: Colin Schooler, Texas Tech
MLB: Chad Muma, Wyoming
LB: Darrian Beavers, Cincinnati
CB1: Raleigh Texada, Baylor
CB2: Russ Yeast, Kansas State
SS: Bubba Bolden, Miami
FS: Smoke Monday, Auburn
K: Cameron Dicker, Texas
P: Ryan Stonehouse, Colorado State
Presenting the 2022 NFL Name Rookie of the Year: SMOKE MONDAY
This isn’t just the best name of the 2022 NFL Draft class, it’s one of the best football names of all time. There are so many great ways you can use Smoke Monday in a sentence that it really makes it sing. Hell, I can imagine Kendall Roy from Succession shadow boxing in his Manhattan penthouse while telling himself to “Smoke Monday” before a big board meeting.
I can envision it being a call to relax as well: “Put in the work Sunday, smoke Monday.”
Even if you use the first name and tell opponents “you don’t want the smoke” it all still works. This name it utter perfection and I hope whoever drafts Smoke Monday will embrace his name brilliance and cherish it for the joy that it is.

Look: Ohio State's Nicholas Petit-Frere shows off body transformation, credits Mickey Marotti – 247Sports
Mickey Marotti has a knack for transforming players’ bodies. The Ohio State strength and conditioning coach has a long history of taking scrawny freshmen straight out of their high school weight room and turning them into NFL specimens in a few years’ time. The players Marotti has helped transform are too many to name, but there’s a good chance if he came through the door at the Woody Hayes…
