WIP Wednesday!
Thank you for the tag @pimento-playing-hopscotch, @anewkindofme, and @the-flaming-nightmare! 🥰🥰🥰
This is part of an upcoming chapter of Find Another Guiding Light!
Carlos pulled up to his parents’ house and sat in the driver’s seat for too many beats to be normal. He had agreed to watch their house for them while they went on a long weekend vacation to Galveston mostly because it meant he didn’t have to pay for another three nights in a hotel. Not to mention his mami was sure to have plenty of leftovers stocked up in the fridge that he would be able to gorge himself on, which would be a nice break from cereal. He was starting to get sick of the off-brand Cheerios he had this time, but for less than two dollars, it was the perfect food for him to buy. Tonight maybe he’d have tamales made with love and stuck in the freezer for a later date or, if there were no tamales, he could make do with rice and beans or other leftovers from throughout the week. Carlos knew his mami had a hard time cooking for just her and his dad, their fridge always full of leftovers.
The first thing he did when he got inside was put his bag away in his childhood bedroom. Carlos had moved out at nineteen and the room was very much a shrine to his past self. There were no poster’s on the walls because Carlos had never cared enough to tack anything up unlike his sister’s, both of whom had been yelled at by Gabriel on more than one occasion for putting too many holes in the wall. Instead, he had one family photo hung up near his desk and a crucified Jesus hanging over his bedroom door, placed their long ago by his mother. Even in his darkest days, Carlos hadn’t dared tried to take him down. If Jesus didn’t strike him down for the act, his mother sure would have, his father right after. The bedroom could have been a spare one, put together for just guests with the green comforter that he’d adored; even now, nearly ten years after it was purchased, it was just as soft as it always had been. Part of him wanted to curl up right then and there and sleep until morning. A bigger part of him craved food.
He stripped out of his day clothes and pulled on a pair of pajamas that had seen better days. Despite being new to his wardrobe (thank you to the fire for burning every article of clothing he’d had), they were old and threadbare, purchased on clearance at a thrift store; not to mention he’d been wearing them every night for over a week and hadn’t washed them once. Getting to do laundry was a luxury and, having forgotten to add them to the laundry bag to take the laundromat on the last laundry day, he had to wait to do his clothes again. Maybe he could do a load while he was here. He made a mental note to remember to ask his mami if he could when he talked to her tomorrow and moved to the kitchen.
Open tag for anyone who wants to participate ♥

Gentle love prompts #41. Not letting them go when hugging
Hol Horse/reader (gender neutral reader)
You’re on Texas’s Galveston Island with Hol for a weekend getaway. He’s been showing you around the places he remembers fondly from his past visits: a bar near your hotel, a chocolate shop on the Strand, and his favorite fishing spot. Of course, you’ve spent some time on the beach, too. Now he’s driven you all the way to the east end of the island, past the bridge you’d driven over when you’d arrived.
“Here we are.” He says, pulling into a ferry loading lane.
“Where does the ferry go?” You ask, watching the cars ahead of you pull onto the ferry as you inch forward.
“Port Bolivar. Not much to see there. They’ve got a retired lighthouse and an old fort, but it’s more of a gateway to the rest of the peninsula.”
“Then why are we going there?”
“Just to ride the ferry. We’ll have to turn around and take the next one back too, unless you wanna see the park at the fort.” He says as your turn to board comes, and you pass over the loading ramp with a bump. “It’s nice, it’s free, and sometimes you can see dolphins.”
He pulls up until the reflective-vested workers gesture for him to stop. He turns the car off and pulls the parking brake, following the instructions on the signs scattered around the deck. Then he unbuckles his seat belt.
“Come on, we’re gettin’ out.” He hops out and you follow him, slipping between cars to the walkway near the side of the boat.
“We’re goin’ up to the front, you can see better there.”
“Isn’t the front on a boat called the prow or something?”
“Honey, I’m a cowboy, not a sailor.” He laughs as you come to stand near the chain keeping passengers away from the very front of the boat, which lowers into the loading and unloading ramp. There’s a good view from here, and the sea breeze on your face is nice.
There’s a small jolt as the ferry’s engines start up and it begins to pull away from the dock. You sway into Hol with the motion, looping your arm around his waist in a side hug and not letting go of him.
“It’s not gonna be that rough, you don’t need to hold on to me.” He says, and you smile at him with a wink.
“Maybe I want to.”
“No complaints here.” He grins and throws an arm across your shoulders. The stronger breeze of the boat’s forward motion and the spray from the sea splashing at the side near you are cooling. At the back of the boat, people are throwing scraps of food to noisy gulls. You watch pelicans floating on the water pass by, scanning for the dolphins Hol had said you might see.
The trip isn’t very long, maybe twenty minutes, so it doesn’t take long before you can see the other dock. Hol gives you a squeeze and lets you go.
“Let’s get back to the car. Gotta be ready to get off.”
You follow him back as the engines audibly slow down on approach. You buckle up again, and soon the front ramp has been lowered and the first cars are being waved off. When it’s your turn, Hol has to drive a little ways down the road to find a place to turn around. And then you’re back in the loading line to do it again.
You repeat the whole process from before, standing at the front of the boat again once you’re underway. You keep an eye out again for dolphins. You watch a bird dive and come up with a fish in its beak, and the wind picks up enough that Hol has to tie the strings of his hat in case it blows off his head, but you don’t see any dolphins. Not until-
“Over there.” Hol pulls you close to point at something a ways away from the boat. You look closely, and there they are: the dorsal fins and curved backs of dolphins jumping and playing at the surface. It looks like there are four or five of them, but it’s hard to count when you can’t see them all at one time.
You watch them until you can’t find them again. Maybe they’ve moved on, or maybe the boat has left them behind. Either way, the return trip comes to and end, and you’re soon back in the car driving away from the dock in the direction of your hotel.
“That was pretty cool.” You decide, watching the seawall pass by your window. “Thanks for showing me.”
“Glad you liked it. Tomorrow we can try some of the museums around town. I’ve never been, myself.”
“Not much of a museum-goer in your youth?” You tease, and he shakes his head.
“I’m hardly a museum-goer now, but I think you’ll like ‘em.”
It’s sweet that he’s planned activities just for you. You’re looking forward to it.

2 nights in Houston for spring break.
I haven't been to the coast since the 90s.
Nice hotel for cheap, all the cheap ones around Corpus and Galveston looked skanky.
It's by the airport, which pleases me immensely.
There's a British market nearby, which is AWESOME. Gimme steak crisps.

SethKate for the ship questionnaire!
So...I got a little wordy on this one. Under the cut!
How did they first meet?
Well, Kate almost ran Seth over her family's RV, if we want to be technical, where she called him, "just some weirdo", not knowing that she's going to one day become...his second wife! (I will never be able to stop myself from referencing we don’t make the future, we just know it). But actual real meeting was when Richie dragged her back from the Dew Drop Inn pool at gunpoint and found Seth in the hotel room with her dad and brother.
Who felt romantic feelings first?
So Kate had a moment of "oh shit I just had a sexual awakening and I don't know what to do" when Seth punched out the doorman for being a creep (which, also, she had another one of those when Kisa had Richie drink tequila off her foot, so like, it was a VERY long day for Kate and she didn't really have time to explore any of THAT, what with the whole, vampire of it all) and Seth just had NO clue why he was so drawn to Kate during the Longest and Worst Night Of Their Lives TM.
All the same, I think Seth felt more, real, "oh shit, Kate is my forever PERSON" feelings first, during the Mexican Honeymoon and it SCARED THE FUCK OUT OF HIM, because she was taking to criminal life like a duck to water and was like, the most perfect partner he could imagine outside his brother, which then sent his brain on a tailspin because Richie was supposed to be his only ever perfect partner. Which was a big part of why he thought it was right to send her away for her safety in 2x02.
And while Kate definitely had feelings at the time, more of her feelings developed after she died and was fighting off Amaru in her body, and she saw Seth's soul when Amaru tried to kill him, and then saw all the efforts he was making to save her after he found out she was alive.
You! Made! Them! Into! Heroes!
Like, that's when she KNEW she was totally and completely done for.
Did either of them try to resist their feelings?
Hahahaha SO MUCH. Like I said in the last answer, Seth liked Kate so much it scared him enough that he thought the best option was just to send her away for her safety (forgetting that she's so fucking stubborn and is basically the human form of the "fight me" emoji--which, was probably because of the heroin fucking up his what little complex reasoning skills he has.)
And Kate definitely resisted any feelings back in Mexico because of the heroin and she was NOT going to ever commit herself to a junkie.
Who initiated their feelings first?
SETH GECKO JUST WANTS TO HOLD KATE FULLER'S HAND AND I THINK THAT'S BEAUTIFUL.
(yes, I'm referring to 3x04)
It was Seth with his actions throughout season 3, especially once he confirmed that she was actually still alive in 3x04. But it was Kate who said the words first and hit him with the metaphorical 2x4 before she walked through the gate in 3x10.
Who said “I love you” first?
Like I said, it was Kate in 3x10 before she walked into the gate. I also think it's Kate, AGAIN, post-canon, because Seth loves Kate so much he doesn't have sense, but also has a martyr complex a mile wide and is too scared to make a move because...did she mean in general? was she just talking to Scott? did she mean like love in the romantic sense or platonic???? why couldn't she be more clear it's not like we were facing the end of the world or anything.
And Kate had to be like "yes I actually love you, you donut"
Who gets jealous easily?
While Kate may have some insecurities about Seth's history and the women he's been with in the past, Seth really doesn't like other men who are closer to Kate's age to talk to her, especially at Jed's. He's not a caveman about it, but there are times where he'll get a little huffy about it until Kate sets him straight. It's not something that happens often, and it helps that Kate doesn't look like she was just recently a teenager thanks to the red hair.
Who is more protective?
Seth is SO protective. SO protective. A lot of it is because of what Kate's gone through and Seth really wants to shield her from having to deal with anything even remotely like what she went through over those two years. But at the same time? NO ONE fucks with her boys and gets away with it. Kate can be pretty vicious when she wants to be. Do no harm, but take no shit. And Seth LOVES it.
Who remembers the little things?
Seth feels like he can't afford to forget anything because of everything that happened to them since they met. While they both remember like, all the things, Seth is the ones who brings it up the most, like off-hand comments that Kate made in Mexico about things she likes or dislikes, and it always throws her when he remembers things that she didn't expect him to remember.
Who talks about their feelings more?
Kate is the one who instigates the conversations because Seth can kind of be emotionally constipated. He always feels like he feels WAY more than she does and doesn't want to overwhelm her, and Kate's just like, "shut the fuck up, I'm so stupid about you its almost embarrassing".
Who uses the cheesier pickup lines?
Seth, 1000000%, because he loves him some old movies and can't help but quote them. And then he dies a little on the inside when Kate doesn't understand that reference. But she likes the pickup lines all the same.
(Richie, on the other hand, is disgusted by them both.)
What does a first date look like for them?
Because of, you know, everything, they don't really do a traditional first date. They just go from not together (because she was dead, and then possessed) to extremely together, very quickly. The first time they go on a traditional date is probably one night on a trip they take to Galveston some months after season 3. Seth's like, oh shit, we haven't actually gone on a DATE, and Kate's like, whatever you want to do sounds nice (partly because she doesn't want him to feel obligated to do traditional relationship things since from what she knows about him, he's never been about that life), but Seth pulls out all the stops (really nice restaurant out by the beach, brings her flowers, etc) and it's awkward for all of five minutes because they feel like they should be doing traditional early-relationship date things, until they remember everything they've gone through together and Kate makes some comment about Richie which reminds Seth of a funny story about them and one of their early heists and suddenly it's all back to normal.
What do they like to do together?
Crime. They both saw the potential of what they could be as partners with the mercado heist, but of course didn't have time to think about it all what with everything that happened after, but when Seth let himself accept Kate as a partner, it opened up Los Tres Geckos to a hell of a lot more successful and lucrative crimes to pull off. Kate's REALLY fucking good at crime, and Seth loves it.
(Richie, on the other hand, is kind of disgusted by how much Seth loves how good at crime Kate is)
Which one gets angry the most, leaving the other to calm them down?
Kate is definitely the one who tends to be more even-keeled, especially with her "violence is not the answer" upbringing. She knows better than to let Seth get lost in his own head for too long, and with them being together Seth gets a lot better at handling both his anger and his anxiety.
Do they like PDA?
Seth is much more comfortable with it than Kate is. Kate is just really not a fan of how their culebra family and staff have heightened senses and like ALWAYS KNOW thanks to pheromones, so she tries to be as even-keeled as possible and PDA-free around them. Seth doesn't always let her get away with it.
(This may or may not play into the events of House Hunters: Culebra Properties Edition....just saying.)
What are their big spoon / little spoon arrangements?
More often than not, Kate is the big spoon, but it also depends on who's having the worst nightmares and when. Kate just tends to sprawl, and most of that sprawling ends up being on top of Seth.
Does one like the cuddle more than the other?
Seth Gecko is a WORLD CHAMPION CUDDLER. World. Freaking. Champion. Kate is a little surprised by it, but she's super into it. They're pretty much always touching in one way, shape, or form when they're around each other.
Who hogs the blankets?
I don't think either, so much as Seth runs so warm at night that he tends to kick the blankets off both of them and he uses his both heat to keep Kate warm at night.
Who’s more likely to initiate sex?
Seth, 10000%. Kate's always into it, because Seth is DAMN good at what he does, but he tends to initiate more.
Who’s the kinkiest?
Kate is 10000000% not aware of her kinks because of her upbringing, but she finds she's pretty much into whatever Seth suggests. It's all pretty vanilla, but there are some positions that Kate never would have thought of and she's here for it.
Who is the top and bottom in their sex life? Are they interchangeable?
Seth is usually the one who takes control of things, but the times where Kate's in charge, well, are some of the best sex that Seth has ever had.
Who likes giving and who likes receiving oral?
Definitely both. Seth does it more because he doesn't like to let Kate, and also prefers to finish inside her, but Kate is also very good at what she does, on those times.
Can they last more than one round?
Oh definitely. Y'all, despite the fact that Seth started going gray in his late 20s, Seth is NOT that old. He can keep up.
Which one is a morning person?
Kate is slightly more of a morning person compared to Seth, who is absolutely NOT, but considering their lifestyle is mostly nocturnal, but tend to stay up pretty late.
Do either of them like to cook?
Seth knows how to cook fast food-type food from his time at Big Kahuna, and Kate likes to bake more than she likes to cook. But Kate does know how too cook thanks to her upbringing in Bethel and "traditional woman things". They'll split the difference for breakfast, but most often lunches and dinner are either brought in or eaten at Jed's.
If they get married, who proposes first?
This is one of the times in Kate's life where she is pretty traditional, and lets Seth do the proposing. It's also a lot more of a traditional proposal than she expected, with Seth setting up a fuckton of candles on the balcony of their beach house in Galveston and surprising here with takeout from her favorite restaurant and getting down on one knee before dessert.
What kind of wedding do they have?
It's small, and not technically legal since they're all technically dead. Richie officiates, Scott shows up with his culebra girlfriend, and Kisa comes with a very nice gift that Seth is kind of a dick about accepting from her, because they're very much those antagonistic type of friends and he feels awkward about any sincerity from her and being sincere in return. He's also not comfortable with how much dancing Richie and Kisa do together at their small reception, which Kate thinks is hilarious.
Does anyone object to their relationship?
Freddie isn't a fan, but he doesn't get a vote. Scott doesn't like Seth because of how their families first came together (kidnapping is kind of a bad first impression, I guess), but grows to accept their relationship especially after all the efforts Seth took to get Kate back and how Seth did ultimately save Kate's life while Scott was busy freaking out in the church.
Do they have any kids?
Their lifestyle isn't conductive for children (read: crime is illegal), and also Seth is terrified by the idea of treating any potential children like his dad did, or fucking them up in some way. Along with her fears of potentially going through what her mother suffered before she died, Kate is also scared of passing on any potential leftovers from Amaru. They just mutually decide to pass on that.
They do end up taking in the newly turned culebra teenagers that come their way, because Kate has some experience with encountering culebras at a young age, and Scott is always available for consults as an eternal 16-year-old. They stay at Jed's for a while to acclimate before moving on. It ends up being a handful every year, and Kate always keeps track of them and stays in touch. It's as close to motherhood as it gets for her, and she loves it.
Do they have any pets?
One day, Seth finds an injured cat in their backyard, and just like that, they have a cat. Once she recovers, she becomes the queen of the house, and she loves cuddling with them both on the couch in the evenings.

Day 14: Galveston
Crappy wi-fi. Let’s see how far I get with this. Man, it was hard to get up today. I think we’re gonna need a new vacation when we get home from this.
Hm. Where to start? First: the shower did not work, but they had provided us with washcloths at least. Breakfast consisted of a waffle (freshly made by me) and a glass of orange juice. They offered various bread and cereal as well, but the waffle was more than enough.
Once again breakfast was spent trying to book a place for the night. We had already decided to go to Galveston, but since the beaches are super popular there, hotels and motels are expensive. In the end we landed on Travelodge by Wyndham. Not our finest decision, but it’s only one night.
After checking out from Shark Reef Resort, we set out northeast. It is a four+ hours drive, but this time we chose the scenic route, so it wouldn’t be so tedious. We even had to take a ferry. Granted, it was only a five-minute crossing (after waiting for quite a while as they loaded the ferry), and there were five or six ferries running continuously.
I was so happy when I saw a brown pelican. “Wow! There’s a pelican!” only to discover five seconds later… a whole flock of them. Suddenly the sight wasn’t so exotic anymore.
The road was pretty straight, and outside of Aransas Pass the trees lining the road was beautiful and twisted. Wish I had taken a photo, but we would’ve had to stop for that.
We passed countless fields of cotton and corn, and a feed grain called sorghum, that coloured the fields a beautiful rusty red.
We stopped in Blessing and ate lunch at a place called The Six One 6, and the food was delicious (especially the onion rings). It wasn’t planned, we just pulled off the road when we saw it, and it was so worth it. Wonderful service, and an interesting décor.
With full stomachs and a diet coke to go, we continued over the islands to Galveston, surprised to see the sky darkening the closer we came. Soon we could see lightning and hear the thunder, and as we turned into the parking lot, rain started falling. Big, fat drops of warm rain. Didn’t take long before we were wet. On the plus side, the temperature dropped to around 29C (84F), but with the humidity, it felt terribly stuffy.
Travelodge wasn’t too easy to find. There’s no sign (or, as we learned later, the sign is on the back of the building, not visible from the road), and the only reason we knew where to turn off the road was because of Google maps and the pictures we had seen on the booking site.
…one advice: don’t book here. The whole place looks dirty. Our room smells of mildew and mold, there’s black mold on the ceiling and the wall, there’s a hole punched in the headboard of the bed, and I don’t even want to tell you about the colour of our mattress. Suffice to say I won’t be sleeping well tonight. Checked for bedbugs, though, and it seems clean, but after I thought of it, every inch of me started itching. There’s not even a trash can in the room 😳
With the weather the way it is, I doubt we’ll go to the beach (and I really don’t feel like trying the pool, even though I haven’t seen it yet – I’m fairly certain it’s unsanitary), so I guess our plans for the evening consists of dinner somewhere, PBS news hour in the room, and washing clothes (there’s a laundry room here. Don’t know if it works yet.).
Tomorrow Houston awaits. Here’s to hoping it will be a better place than this.
Okay, so dinner is done, and it was surprisingly good. We went to Gaidos Seafood Reastaurant just behind the motel. They didn’t have a table for us in the dining room, but we got a seat at the bar. It was a bit weird looking into the big kitchen and seeing all the food being prepared (and not in a fancy restaurant way, more of a “you’re not supposed to be here” way), but our server, Jersey, made the whole experience fun.
It was a bit pricey, but we didn’t have the energy to search for something else. I ordered the fried catfish, which was delicious: mild and not too fishy tasting. Øyvind had the crab filled shrimp. They were good too.
After dinner we went next door to Nick’s to get a drink for dessert. There we met a very nice couple from Boston, who were so jealous of our travelling. They paid for our drinks (Thank you, Mr. and Mrs. Boston) and recommended a hotel in Houston, since they’d just come from there. So we booked the next two nights at The Whitehall Houston. It can’t be worse than what we’re staying in right now, especially since Mrs. Boston talked about how clean it was. Cleanliness was important to her, that much was clear.
When it was time to go back to the motel, the sun had set and the rain had stopped. In fact it was pretty much clear outside. I could see stars and everything. But we really didn’t want to go back, so we took a stroll along the beach. The water was warm, and the breeze pleasant. I wondered what felt so squishy under my feet, so I turned on my phone’s flash and… shrimp. Washed ashore and just lying there, being gross.
We returned to the pavement after that, but not before stopping to admire the fireflies in glittering in the grass (🎶Jus’ follow the bouncing butt🎶) and continued our way towards the pier,
but suddenly we heard live music from a bar across the road (The Poop Deck), so we went there for a beer instead. It became increasingly more humid and hot as we sat there, so after a little while we finally realised we had to go back to the motel, as we’re both sweaty and too hot and ready for bed. If sleeping is a possibility tonight. Crossing my fingers for at least a couple of hours sleep. But there’s complimentary breakfast, so that’s something, I guess.
Todays wildlife:
Lots of roadkill today. Raccoons (still haven’t seen a live one), armadillos, squirrels, and a whole group of wild boar (or pigs looking suspiciously like wild boar). Birds galore, brown pelicans, cormorants, and lots of other birds I can’t identify. Crabs on the beach, of course, and dead shrimp. Oh, and the fireflies. They were so beautiful!

Dear Friend - Part 3
Dean x Reader
Summary: Dean meets a girl on a new hunter website and begins an online romance. The only problem is, they don’t know who the other person is. Could their love for one another last only in the confines of the computer screen or will their desire for something more lead them to finally meet?
Warnings: Language. A bit more of a slow burn
A/N: This is part 3 of my little series based on “You’ve Got Mail” and “She Loves Me.” I hope you guys are enjoying it as much as I am. A big thank you to the wonderful @hannahindie for betaing this for me. I’d love to know what y’all think of this, so please feel free to let me know. Enjoy!
Series Masterlist
“Y/N, what are you thinking about?” the young woman named Christina laughed and waved a hand in front of her friend’s face to try to pull her from her trance.
Y/N gave a laugh of her own and shook her head. “Nothing. Just turkey sandwiches with lettuce and tomato.”
“Turkey sandwiches with…” Christina’s words trailed off as she continued eyeing her friend. “You’re a strange bird sometimes Y/N/N. Anyways, thanks for your help with this hunt.” She lifted her beer bottle for a toast.
Y/N lifted hers and clinked the necks. “Anytime, girl. Besides, you know I love a good werewolf hunt.” She gave an innocent wink.
“What’s on your mind that’s got you so distant? And don’t tell me it’s just sandwiches. I mean, they’re great and all, but not that great.”
Y/N gave a sigh and set her bottle down in front of her. She took a moment to fiddle with its placement as she thought about what she was going to say. “Have you heard of that new hunter website?” her friend nodded. “Well, I go on there from time to time and I sort of met someone on there. A guy,” she clarified.
“Oh really now? What’s his name? I’m sure I’ve heard of him.” Christina knew all sorts of hunters, both socially and biblically. She took no shame in it.
“That’s the thing, I don’t know his name.” Christina started to give a look but Y/N continued anyway. “I said I didn’t want to know names. Keep a sort of mystery about things. I thought it was just playful and harmless until we started talking more. Now I want to know his name because he’s a really nice guy, but I feel like I can’t turn back on my rule. He could be anyone.” She picked a little at the label on her beer.
“It could be Garth,” Christina said with a laugh, to which Y/N threw her bottle cap in response.
Later that night Y/N sat at her computer biting her nail as she waited for her favorite website to load. She held her breath as she waited to see if there was a little number hanging above the envelope icon. Sadly there was nothing. It had only been a day since she last wrote to BabyDriver67, so she wasn’t very disappointed. But still part of her was disappointed there was nothing new to read. She looked away from the computer screen and to the photo of her and her niece sitting framed on her desk. She thought for a moment of the cute little girl, then turned back to the computer to click on “New Message.”
I sometimes wonder about my place in this world. Does that make any sense? Like how there are people sleeping right now who have no idea of what we do for a living, and probably never will. They just live their lives going to work or school and go along their merry way. I feel like I can’t remember a time before I heard of werewolves and ghouls and all those other things that go bump in the night. What a strange life I lead. I’m not really looking for an answer on this. I went out tonight with a friend and had a little too much to drink, I think. I like to throw questions into the Void when I’m drunk. Goodnight, dear Void.
“Goodnight, dear Void.” The words glowed from Dean’s computer screen. He was falling more and more in love with her with each new message. But his heart also ached for her. He knew that even drunk words had a bit of truth to them, so somewhere deep down she was feeling this insignificance. If only he could meet her and tell her she was’t insignificant. Not to him.
“Hey, I think I found a haunting in Texas,” Sam said as he joined his brother in the library.
Dean shook himself from his thoughts and looked up from his laptop. “Texas, huh?”
“Yeah, a hotel in Galveston.”
Dean frowned in thought. “Well, I have been wanting to see the beach lately.” Sam only then seemed to take notice of what his brother was doing. “Any new messages from her?” he hammed up the question a little to Dean’s annoyance.
“Bite me,” was all Dean could think to say as he closed the laptop and got up. “We’ll leave in twenty!” he shouted as he walked down the hall towards his room.
The case, on paper, was fairly run of the mill by Winchester standards. The hotel had long had legends of being haunted – harmless cold spots and creaks in the night – but now guests and staff were getting seriously injured. It was only a matter of time before it escalated to someone’s death.
HellsBelle25 was still on Dean’s mind as they checked into their room at the hotel. He was so deep in thought he didn’t even hear what Sam was saying to him. He was brought back to reality with a pillow hitting his face.
“Dean?” Sam scoffed from his seat on the bed. “You’re not listening to a word I’m saying, are you?”
Dean threw the pillow back at his brother as a reply. “I’m going to go talk to some locals. How ‘bout you get to work on the research. We’ll meet back up again later tonight to do some poking around.”
He put on his cheap suit and grabbed his FBI badge as he headed out the door. Up the street he saw a sign for a seafood restaurant, which gave him a sudden craving for shrimp. When he walked through the door, he was greeted with the usual nautical scene that came with beachfront locales. He made his way to an empty booth and took a seat.
“What can I do for ya?” the waitress, identified by a name tag as Judy, asked. She was an older woman who seemed to have seen her share of sailors and tourists pass through town. She looked like she would have her finger on the pulse of what was going on at the hotel.
Dean ordered the shrimp and introduced himself as Agent Tyler. “I’m here looking into all the nonsense happening over at the hotel.”
Judy twisted her face into a frown as she looked over his badge. “That hotel sure is drawing a lot of attention. First that reporter and now the FBI. What’s next, Secret Service?”
That caught Dean’s attention. “Reporter?”
“Yeah, she’s sitting over there.” She pointed her pen towards a booth a little ways down from Dean’s. All he could see was the top of a ponytail that popped out from a downturned head.
Dean nodded his thanks at Judy as she walked back to put in his order. He slid out of the booth and made his way over to the young woman. He found her hunched over a notebook scribbling away in a purposeful manner. “Excuse me,” he cleared his throat.
The woman looked up from her work but kept writing as she slowly began to comprehend who was speaking to her. A half second too late, it seemed, she gave a warm smile. “Hello.”
“I’m, uh, Agent Tyler,” he flashed his badge again. “I hear you’re a reporter here to look into the hotel?”
She kept her eyes on his badge for a few seconds. “Uh, yes, I am.” She set her pen on top of her notebook. “I’m Y/N Y/L/N.” She held out her hand.
Dean took it in his and gave a shake, impressed by the firmness of it. He stood in silence for a beat longer. “Do you mind if I join you for a moment?” he finally asked.
“Not at all, please,” she motioned for the seat opposite her and he took it. She brushed her Y/H/C hair away from her face, “How can I help you, Agent Tyler?”
“Well, how about you fill me in on what you’ve found out so far about the hotel?”
She eyed him for a moment as if searching for something. She must not have found it, or maybe she did, because she shrugged and began to share what she knew. “The hotel used to be an orphanage, back around the time of the hurricane. Kids from the city and even as far as Houston would be bussed in to live there. Guests and staff have talked about hearing things or feeling cold spots for years. Basic urban legend stuff. But over the past few weeks, people have been getting hurt. Staff members and guests with slashes and knife wounds on the arms and chest. Really interesting escalation.”
Dean jotted down notes in his notebook and nodded, “Anything else?”
“Well, I’m still working on it,” her eyes narrowed on him. “So what brings the FBI out here?”
“We go where the weird goes, and this is weird.”
“Maybe I should start calling you agent Mulder instead,” she said with a lift of her eyebrows.
Dean laughed off the idea and thanked Y/N for her time, returning back to his booth and his shrimp.
“There’s an attractive reporter here looking into the case,” Dean casually mentioned back at the hotel later that evening as he swept the EMF reader in front of him. The device chirped and flashed red. “There’s definitely some ghosts here, too.”
“Leave it to you to find an attractive reporter while doing recon,” Sam sighed. “And what about mystery girl?” He poked his brother’s side with the flashlight.
“Oh come off it, man.”
They made their way down to the ballroom floor. All was still and quiet, the guests having gone to bed long ago. Dean’s EMF reader chirped back to life as the lights in the hall flickered. The brothers noticed their breath fog up in the cold air.
Suddenly they heard a thump coming from the ballroom ahead of them. They ran over to fling open the doors and found a familiar Y/H/C young woman shooting a sawed-off shotgun into the ghost of a young child.
“Fuck!” she cursed under her breath.
“Y/N?” Dean asked incredulously.
The young woman swung her head around to the brothers and her brows knit together. “Agent Tyler?”
Before Dean could answer, the child reappeared behind Y/N and made his way quickly towards her. He held a knife and flashed a menacing smile. “Hey! Behind you!” Dean yelled as he shot his own shotgun at it again and it disappeared once more. He walked over to her and poured a circle of salt around her. “Reporter, huh?” He gave her a long look.
“Agent, huh?” she returned the look. “Who are you guys, anyways? And why are you invading my turf?”
Sam walked over and joined them. “I’m Sam Winchester, and this –” he pointed to his brother – “is my brother, Dean.”
“The Winchesters?” Y/N scoffed.
“Your turf?” Dean scoffed back.
Y/N rolled her eyes. “Yes, my turf. I’m from Texas and this is a job in Texas. You’re invading my turf. Since when do you guys travel south of Oklahoma?” She stepped over the line of salt and walked towards the doors, her gun falling to her side, “I can handle this myself.”
“Maybe we can help you,” Sam called after her. She turned to look back at him and he shrank a little under her glare. “It, uh… it would go faster,” he added.
She rolled her eyes at them, “Fine. We’re looking for a teddy bear. It’s somewhere in the basement, I’m pretty sure.”
“How do you know?” Dean asked.
“Because I’ve been here for a week and I’ve done my research.”
They made their way down to the basement. Every question Dean had for Y/N was met with curt responses; she seemed inconvenienced to be with them. When they got to the basement, they found it filled wall to wall with boxes. One of them contained the teddy bear they were looking for.
“I guess we just pick a box and get started,” Sam shrugged.
The three split up taking different sections. After about a half hour of searching, Dean was becoming irritated.
“Find anything yet?” he asked.
Y/N gave a loud huff. “No, Dean. I think I would’ve said something if I had.”
Dean stood up from the box he was searching. “You know what, Y/N, what’s your problem?”
She looked up at him. “You are, Dean Winchester.” Dean was taken aback, but she pressed on, “You think you’re God’s gift to hunters. Swooping in and saving the day for a frail little hunter like me.” Her last sentence was dripping with sarcasm.
Dean gave a wry laugh and licked his lips. “Me? God’s gift? Yeah, you’re right, sweetheart. Abso-fucking-lutely. We came all the way down to the fucking coast to help some inconsequential hunter I’ve never heard of with a simple haunting because she’s too weak but full of herself to handle it on her own. Woe is me, because this girl is going to come in and steal my thunder.” His words dripped with disdain. “Get over yourself,” he scoffed.
Y/N stopped rummaging through the box in front of her and stared at Dean in shock. She was at a loss for words.
The room grew cold again and the ghost appeared in front of Sam. It slowly made its way towards him, still brandishing the knife and a menacing smile. “Uh, guys? Can you hurry up with the search?” he swiped his iron pipe at the ghost and it dissolved once more.
“We’re working on it!” Dean yelled over to him as he turned back to his search. Y/N still stood dumbstruck for a few seconds more before shaking herself back into action. She finished searching the box in front of her before moving on to a trunk in the corner. It was old and worn, and seemed like a good bet.
“Guys?” Sam questioned. The ghost was back and getting closer than before. It seemed to grow stronger and more deliberate each time he appeared.
Y/N and Dean continued rifling through their boxes and trunks. Her hand brushed against something fuzzy and she grabbed the paw of a tattered old teddy bear. She clumsily pulled out her phone to double check the picture she had and confirmed it was the one they had been searching for. “Got it!” she exclaimed.
Dean stood up and joined her in an open space of floor. She dropped the bear to the ground and poured salt and lighter fluid over it. She looked up at Dean as he flicked open his Zippo and dropped it on the bear. They turned to look in Sam’s direction as the ghost began to catch fire and burn into nothing once more.
“Aren’t you glad you had our help?” Dean cockily asked Y/N.
“So glad,” she bit back with a roll of her eyes.
The next morning the brothers caught sight of Y/N as she was packing up her car.
“Heading out?” Sam asked as he walked over to her. Dean reluctantly followed behind.
She closed the trunk and squinted up at him. “Yeah,” she shrugged, “the ghost is gone, and I’m not really one for the beach.”
Sam gave a weak chuckle. “Yeah, we never get to see it, so we thought we’d stick around for a little bit.”
“Thanks for your help, Sam,” she reached out to shake his hand. “Dean,” she turned to shake his.
He looked at it for a moment before taking it. Once again, he was impressed with the firmness of it.
“No offense, but I hope I never see you again,” she said.
“Likewise,” was all he managed to say in return.

This place had decent reviews for a not super expensive hotel. And it is clean and looks nice on the inside. The outside leaves a little to be desired but Galveston hotels are kinda like that. It’s just that if your next door neighbors are having butt-slapping sex you can hear everything. Can’t wait to review this one on Priceline.

Chapter 4 of Stoppable Family Vacation
Chapter 4 - Stoppable Vacation Curse - Part III
"Stoppable, I need to be honest with you." Jamarcus asked his former football team-mate. "Where did it all start?"
Ron paused for a bit and replied hesitantly, not wanting to bring up that place anymore.
"Camp Wannaweep!"
The women present gasped with horror, for Kim and Tara had been with him at that camp...twice.
What appeared to be a thunderclap was heard in the background.
"Is it storming outside?" Tara wondered.
"Nah...just my ringtone!" Jamarcus replied, pulling out his smartphone and clicked on the thunderstorm ringtone.
"Oh..." Tara giggled "...gotcha."
"Everything about that camp was sick and wrong." Ron recalled, having a flashback moment. "From the horrible insects, to the fact that I had to bunk with Bobo the camp masccot, to being served gruel night after night, it was a parade of neverending bad memories! And need I remind you what happened about that lake?"
"Yeah, you told me the story before." Kim agreed. She came out the bathroom with the bib to her overalls down but with the straps still attached. Kim also adjusted her shirt to show off her midriff.
"Gil Moss then became a fish mutant and changed his name to Gill. But the lake has been tox-free since the alien invasion."
"The point was that ever since that day, I've always have had issues with vacations." Ron explained. "There was the Grand Canyon incident with the 'rents in 2001, the time we went to that water park in Galveston, Texas in 2004..."
"And not to mention what had happened in Utah in 2006..." Kim chirped in.
But Ron interrupted her, "KS...we agreed not to talk about that incident ever again."
"So, I get it. Having a bad Stoppable family vacation is like a tradition." Zita said, understanding the nature of the curse.
"Vacations are NEVER supposed to happen like this, Zita!" Kim bemoaned.
"When will you ever start to have a good family vacation?" Tara asked.
"When Bonnie finally gets to be nice to me once." Kim scoffed, referring to her former cheer-mate and nemesis still in prison for tax evasion. "But we haven't gotten to even the worse one."
"That state..." Ron gasped, "...the one that starts with the letter F!"
"And then came the worst trip of all to this day...Florida in 2017!" Kim recalled with fear, her eyes glazed over. "We saw so many things that were, as Ron put it himself..."
"Sick and wrong?" Felix questioned.
"No, Felix...I think you should best define what happened there as being wrongsick!" Ron replied.
"Exacly what he said. Unlike the other trips, there was nothing to salvage from the Florida sitch" Kim agreed, eyes bulging in fear. "It got so weird and wrong that we vowed never to go to that state ever again!"
"Ever..." Ron squeaked in horror.
"After doing research with me and KS, there are usually three bad signs that have been a part of these vacations." Ron added, "Number one: We always have been checked into a hotel room with the number 13 on the end of it."
"Number two..." Kim huffed, "...someone always happens to bring that Three Wolves shirt to every vacation so far!"
"But I love that shirt!" Ron complained.
"It has holes in it the last time I washed it!" Kim countered. "You have to stop bringing it."
"Awww...man!" Ron whined.
"And then there is the third thing..." Kim moaned "...the dreaded vacation song that gets played every time!"
"The one that starts with an H?" Ron asked.
"Yes..." Kim snarled, "that...ONE..."
"So what state are you planning to go to for this year?" Monique asked.
Kim took a deep breath and replied, "A state that has a reputation for being boring...predictable...as far away from bad sitches as possible."
Her smartphone then rung from her purse.
"I'll get that." the redhead said while swiping the screen.
It was Sheila Lipsky on the other end.
"Oh hey, Sheila! What's the sitch?"
"Eh...not much is going on, Princess. Alicia is doing well on her end and Mama Lipsky is still pinching Drewbie's cheeks!"
Kim snickered, "He's always been a mama's boy!"
"But a wonderful Mama's boy. He's also wonderful in bed, if you get with I mean!" Sheila smirked.
"Drew's still got the growing plant magic?" Kim laughed.
"You bet it, sister!" Sheila exclaimed. "The Game of Chairs show is so addicting after Drew suggested it to me! We just binged-watched it ! And on last week's episode..."
"Uh..uh...no spoilers, Sheila! I havent seen the episode yet!" Kim replied, admitting that she hadn't caught up on the show that has been trending on social media.
"Gotta catch up, Kimmie!" the former villainess giggled. "Anywho, I'm just calling you up that Mama Lipsky is going to host Thanksgiving this year at her house in South Dakota."
"Oooh...she always cooks up a mean turkey!" Kim laughed, "And not the mutant turkey that Drew accidentally cooked up a couple of years ago!"
"Don't try to bring that up!" Sheila groaned. "She's going to send an email to your parents as well about the news."
"Okay, sounds pretty spankin' to me!" Kim replied. *Anything else?"
"Nope, that's pretty much it." Sheila replied. "Anyways, I'm gonna get off. Me and Drew are going to binge-watch Red is the New Tan on ShowFlix!"
"Have fun!" Kim replied before hanging up.
This then gave her a bright idea.
"Ron! I know where we're going to go for our vacation!" she exclaimed to Ron.
"That's good, KS! But where?" Ron asked.
"We're gonna go..." Kim proclaimed, "...to South Dakota!"
"Boo-yah! South Dakota it is!" Ron exclaimed, pumping a fist in mid-air. "What is even there to see in South Dakota?"
"Mt. Rushmore, usually." Kim replied. "We only went there once or twice."
"Oh yeah, now I remember that mission!" Ron recalled "We had to prevent Drakken from using that...um...laser thingey from vaporizing America's landmarks! That was also the same day I dressed up like a hip-hop star for one of my dates with Kim!"
"Let's just say that it didn't end well for Ron." Kim groaned.
"That indecent exposure charge is still on my police record." Ron uttered.
"South Dakota, Mt. Rushmore aside, is like the third-most boring state in the entire world, behind North Dakota and Montana!" Kim replied. "It would be the perfect place for the entire Stoppable family to take a vacation!"
"I agree as well!" Monique said in solidarity with the Stoppables. "It would be perfect for the fam that saves the world to get a little R&R there!"
"Then it's settled." Kim decided, "We're going to spend our family vacation in South Dakota!"
"Boo-yah!" Ron exclaimed.

So I'm hoping my friends forget my birthday is in June so I can go somewhere.
I'm thinking I'd like to drive to Austin. Or maybe Galveston so I can watch the sun rise. I'm gonna save some money for a hotel. Really nice and pretty and hopefully has high up floors. I'm gonna lie I'm bed and on line shop. I think deserve to do what I want to do. Every time my birthday comes up my friends try to make it about them even though I said I wanna be left alone. So I guess I should plan something for myself. I'm gonna get drunk alone in a city. Get an Uber back to the hotel and sleep. It's gonna be great.

Day 19: Waco
Last update, I think, since we’re going home tomorrow.
Started early from Dallas, and after a quick breakfast (last night’s leftovers), we decided on a small sightseeing.
Being interested in history, we drove (aaaaahhhhh!!!! No one in Dallas respects the speed limits, even more so than in Houston) to Dealey Plaza first, to see the place where JFK was shot. It was too hot to even think about the museum, though. Even walking from our car to the memorial site had us sweating buckets, and it was only a three-minute walk. (We had temperatures over 40C today).
After that, we took another short trip across Trinity River to get a closer look at Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge. It was a pretty view with the bridge and the skyline.
Then it was time for Fort Worth. Just over thirty minutes to drive, but we really wanted to se the Stockyards. It was the most touristy place we’ve visited on this trip, even more so than Galveston, or even the Alamo in San Antonio, but not, I feel, as negatively touristy. Yes, there was a souvenir shop on every corner, but the feeling of the place was more laid back, not as hasty and out of breath. Maybe because we visited around noon on a Wednesday.
Had lunch at Cattlemen’s Steakhouse, which was located smack in the middle of the Stockyards. Pricey, mediocre food, but friendly staff, and we needed a break from the sun. As with most places we got bread before the meal, and though I think it tastes good, it’s really sweet. I have yet to come across bread here in the US that isn’t sweet. I long for a good slice of brown bread that doesn’t taste like dessert.
After lunch we took a stroll down the streets, wandering up to the petting zoo (which we did not enter), looking at the horses and longhorns and other tourists, before crawling back to the car. Not really crawling but it felt that way. Everything feels syrupy when it’s so hot.
It is a 1,5 hour drive to Waco from Fort Worth, and along the way we entertained ourselves with trying to find weird things. Like the American flags that are the size of our apartment back home – or maybe even bigger, houses being driven on the I-35, and churches. So many churches. Like wow. What even…
Our first stop in Waco (after taking a few wrong turns - because of the road work and inadequate detour signs, of course – not our own fault at all) was the Dr Pepper Museum. It was really interesting, and not just about Dr Pepper, more of a museum about the history of soda.
After redeeming our ticket for a free Dr Pepper (two for me, since Øyvind doesn’t like it – he thinks it tastes like apple cores), we walked (in this heat… when will we learn?) to the Magnolia silos (for those who have watched Fixer Upper, that’s Chip and Joanna’s place). Pretty place, I guess, but we’re not really in the target group, I think. Still, we had to see it, since we’re here.
It was now, what, 17.30, and we were getting really tired, so the hotel was next on our list. (Again, we parked too far away – we have to learn that there’s always parking near where you’re going to here, no need to stop at the first lot you see, but we got back to the car without any incidents.) It took a few tries to find the hotel, because there’s road work everywhere, and quite a few of the exits were closed. But eventually we found the detour road. The cold in the lobby was like heaven!!! And our room! It’s huge! Like almost as big as our apartment. I’m flabbergasted.
We’re not really up to doing anything special tonight. Packing and re-packing, planning tomorrow, and then we have to find a place to eat dinner.
***
Apparently, Øyvind has already found one: Torchy’s Tacos. Let’s see if it’s any good.
***
And it was. A bit loud, and a bit spicy, but the flavours were nice. And now: relax. Maybe a dip in the pool if we can be bothered to go down there. I’m ready. Early start tomorrow.
