ML: Isolation Chapter 46: The Harder They Fall
After school was done for the day, Adrien left immediately. He was getting ready for the show. Meanwhile, for the first time, Lila was panicking that everything would unravel. “Are you OK?” Alya asked. “You don’t look so good.”
“Huh?” Lila said. “Oh, I’m fine. I’ve just got some butterflies in my stomach.”
Alya chuckled “Well, I can’t blame you. Ladybug’s revealing her identity today. I’m excited too.”
“Right,” Lila replied.
“Well, I’d love to stay and chat, but I’ve gotta pick up the twins,” Alya said. “Seeya there.”
“Of course,” Lila said. After Alya left, she felt hollow. She was trapped. But then, a thought occurred to her. She smiled.
Manon was waiting outside of her school, when Adrien’s limo showed up. Adrien walked out and said “I’m looking for a Manon Chamack?”
Manon was excited. “That’s me! Over here! I’m over here!” Adrien chuckled and walked over to her. Manon gave him a big hug. She let go quickly and said “Sorry. I’m just so excited!”
Adrien giggled. “It’s fine. So, are you ready to go?”
“Yeah!” Manon nodded. The two hopped in Adrien limo, and they were off.
As they were on their way, Adrien asked “So Manon,” Manon looked at him, “do you want to be surprised with everyone else, or would you like to come backstage with me and meet Ladybug?”
Manon gasped. “You would do that?!”
“Of course,” Adrien said.
“I’d LOVE to meet Ladybug!” Manon said.
Adrien smiled. “I’m sure she’d love to meet you too. Just let me see if she’s up for it.”
“OK!” Manon said.
Adrien got out his phone and messaged Marinette. “Hey, I have a surprise for you. You wanna see it before the show begins?”
“Uh, sure…”
“Trust me, you’ll love it!”
“If you say so.”
“Alright. See ya then.”
“Seeya.”
Adrien put his phone away. “She’s excited.”
“Yay!” Manon cheered. The limo kept going to the event.
When they arrived, Adrien offered Manon his hand. “Come on. I’ll take you backstage.” Manon nodded eagerly, and took Adrien’s hand. They started walking.
As they were heading backstage, they came across a truly pathetic sight. “You don’t understand,” Lila said, talking to Adrien’s bodyguard. “I’m Ladybug’s best friend.” Henry didn’t budge. “Come on!” Still nothing. “How much money do you want?” Not even a flinch.
“Uh, sorry,” Adrien said, “but he works for me. Valiant effort though.”
“Adrien…” Lila snarked.
“Yes?” Adrien responded with a shit-eating grin.
Lila glared at him. “Why are you so insistent on taking me down that you’re willing to take yourself down too?”
Adrien shook his head. “Ah, the curse of the liar. When you lie so much that you start to believe your own lies.”
“You can’t SERIOUSLY pretend you’re going out with Ladybug!” Lila snapped back.
“I’ve told you time and time again, I’m not pretending,” Adrien retorted. “And as much as I’d like to continue this conversation, I have to get suited up. You know, you could still apologize, but I think at this point, it’ll be too little too late.”
Lila was still glaring. She looked down to see Manon. “Who’s this?”
“Oh,” Adrien said. “That’s the kid you gave your ticket to.”
“No she didn’t,” Manon interrupted. “Cat Noir gave it to me.”
“I know,” Adrien said. “But she told me she gave you her ticket.”
“Well she’s lying,” Manon said.
“Of course,” Adrien said. “It’s all she knows how to do.” Lila huffed. “Anyway, you wanna meet Ladybug?”
“Of course!” Manon said.
“Well then, we should get going,” Adrien instructed. Henry let the two of them pass. Adrien looked back at Lila. Lila got even madder. She tried rushing backstage, but Henry blocked her.  “Just so you know, my bodyguard only lets you off with one warning. So if you want to stay, I suggest you go to your seat. You wouldn’t want to miss your empire crumbling before your very eyes.”  Lila was furious, but also a little scared. Nevertheless, she turned around, and walked away.
Adrien and Manon approached Ladybug’s dressing room. Adrien knocked. Marinette opened the door in a pink robe. Adrien smiled. “Surprise.”
Marinette was a little confused. She looked down to see Manon. “Manon?!”
“Marinette?!” Manon replied, equally as surprised. “You’re Ladybug?!” They stared at each other for a second, before Manon went in for a hug. “I always knew you were good.”
Marinette’s heart swelled up. She smiled, and reciprocated Manon’s hug. “Thank you. For always believing in me.”
“Well, I’ll leave you two be,” Adrien said. He walked off to his dressing room to get ready.
They broke the hug. “Well, come on in,” Marinette said, still a little flustered.
Manon eagerly walked in. Marinette closed the door. “So, you’re Ladybug?” Manon asked again.
Marinette chuckled. “Yeah…” she replied, slightly embarrassed.
“Why are you telling people now?” Manon asked.
“Well, it’s complicated,” Marinette answered. “But basically, you know how I got kicked out of school?”
“Yeah…” Manon replied mournfully.
“Well, today we’re proving my innocence,” Marinette finished.
Manon got excited. “Really?!” Marinette nodded. “YAY!” Manon cheered.
Marinette checked the time. “I need to finish getting ready.” She gave her phone to Manon. “Why don’t you play a game while I get dressed?”
“OK,” Manon said, accepting the phone. She loaded up a game, while Marinette went to go get dressed.
In the crowd, Lila went to go take her seat. “You OK?” Alya asked.
Lila turned towards her. She smiled. “Of course.”
Alya smiled. “Well that’s good. I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait for the show to begin.”
“Right,” Lila said. She turned forward. She grew frustrated. It was slowly sinking in that there was nothing she could do. For the first time, she was going to get caught in a lie. However, she smirked. After all, to her, her saving grace was that so would Adrien.
Back in Marinette’s changing room, Marinette called out to Manon. “I’m finished. Manon looked up. “Well, what do you think?”
Manon was in awe. “It’s beautiful.”
There was a knock at her door. “We’re almost on!” said Nathalie.
“COMING!” Marinette said. Marinette took her phone back. “Are you ready?”
“Yeah,” Manon nodded. She took Marinette’s hand, and they went to the door.
Marinette opened it, and was impressed with Marinette’s outfit. She then looked down, and was surprised by Manon. “Sorry, but could you keep an eye on her?”
Nathalie sighed. “Of course.”
“Thanks,” Marinette said. She headed for the stage. Nathalie and Manon followed to watch from the wings.
In the auditorium, the lights went down to signify the show was about to begin. Lila grew a little more worried. She wasn’t losing it completely. All she had to do was figure out how to drag Adrien down further than he aimed to drag her down. She could do that. Right?
“Hello, and welcome everyone!” the announcer said. “Today, not only are we going to get some fierce fashion from Ladybug, but she will be showing herself off to the world for the first time! I hope you’re excited! I know I am!” The crowd was ecstatic. Lila pretended to join in on the excitement, but in actuality, she was worried.
“First up, we have Adrien Agreste!” the announcer continued. Adrien came out wearing a black suit, with a silver tie, and a silver calligraphic line that traveled across the entire suit and branched off into other silver calligraphic lines at various points. He took to the catwalk as he usually did, however people noticed he was more excited than usual. His presence was bigger, and his walk had more confidence. The crowd was stunned.
Adrien played to the crowd for a bit. The crowd was enjoying it. Meanwhile, Lila was observing him. She grew more and more worried as Adrien showed no sign of cracking under pressure. Of course, he was a professional. And he was telling the truth. Not that Lila knew that second part. Or rather, she didn’t want to believe it.
After a few minutes, Adrien walked back. “Alright, now it’s the moment you’ve all been waiting for!” the announcer stated. “Presenting the one, the ONLY: LADYBUG!” Marinette arrived on the catwalk. She was wearing an elegant dress that was gray on the bottom eighth, sky blue for the top seven eighths, and had green squiggly lines coming up from the gray section that blossomed into alternating yellow and magenta flowers, where the yellow flowers were lower, and the magenta flowers were higher. She also sported a pair of sky blue heels. In front of her face, she held up a fan that was gray at the bottom, and sky blue at the top with yellow and magenta flowers going across it.
The crowd was stunned silent with excitement. Marinette took careful steps forward. The crowd was captivated. Once she got to the edge of the catwalk, all eyes were on her. Everyone was waiting breathlessly. In an elegant motion, Marinette closed her fan and posed graciously, revealing herself for all to see.
Most of the crowd was in an uproar. Adrien’s classmates were surprised and confused, none more so than Lila. Her face went pale, as her classmates began asking questions and pointing out that that was Marinette, and Lila HATED Marinette. All the while, Marinette remained as professional as she could, and struck more poses.
In a panic, Lila stood up from her seat and blurted out “HA!” The crowd was put off by this interruption, but Lila didn’t care. She thought she had an opening, and decided to take it. She rushed the stage, and grabbed the announcer’s microphone. “I’m sorry I have to do this,” Lila told the crowd. “But this girl is NOT Ladybug!” The crowd gasped.
“WHAT IS GOING ON?” Gabriel shouted, coming out to the catwalk. Everyone turned to him, as he walked out furiously to approach Lila. “Why are you interrupting MY fashion show?!”
“Mr. Agreste!” Lila replied. “I don’t know what your son told you, but that’s not Ladybug!”
“Listen here,” Gabriel snapped back, “I can assure each and everyone here that this fine young lady is in fact Ladybug. I have the bank receipts to prove it. Money goes from my account into hers whenever she submits a design to me.”
“But that can’t be right!” Lila said. “This is all just a ploy to embarrass me!”
“You’re doing a fine enough job of that on your own,” Gabriel replied. “Besides, even if I wanted to just embarrass you, I don’t think the Bank of France would appreciate me tampering with their data.”
Lila was stunned. “Although, we are here to embarrass you as well,” Adrien said. Everyone looked, and he was coming back out to the catwalk wearing a headset with a microphone. He walked forward. “People of the crowd, I must apologize. This event has an ulterior motive to it. You see, this young lady here was accused of harassing this young lady. But today, we are here to prove that wrong.”
The crowd began to murmur. Lila was still trying to process this. Adrien continued. “You see, this young lady accused Ladybug of all sorts of things, but in reality, she was manipulating things so that people saw it that way. It all culminated in an event that got her kicked out of school.
HOWEVER, we have since found proof that exonerates her. Alya?” Alya stood up. “If you could be so kind as to head up to the AV room with your footage?” Alya nodded and started walking over.
Lila was angry for a second that Alya was indeed working behind her back. She recomposed herself and turned back to Adrien. “You don’t understand! She did steal my necklace!”
Adrien was not having it. “Really. Well then, while Alya is setting things up,” he turned to the crowd, “Chloe?” Chloe was a little surprised. “Would you like to come down here and tell everyone what you saw?”
Chloe stood up, came down to the stage, and ripped the mic from Lila’s hands. “On the day Marinette got kicked out, I saw you placing something in her locker!” The crowd gasped. “And then when I confronted you, you threatened to turn it on me and take Sabrina away!” The crowd gasped more.
Lila looked out to see a parade of horrified faces. Sabrina in particular was giving her a thousand-yard stare. She regained focus. She took the mic back. “Surely, you aren’t going to believe her? I mean, she’s the bratty daughter of the mayor!”
The crowd was confused for a second, before Juleka stood up and said “I will!” The crowd was looking at her now. “Chloe may have done a lot of dumb things before, but I don’t think she’s lying now!”
The crowd talked amongst itself. Adrien smiled and said “Thanks Juleka.” He turned back to Lila. “So, anything else you want to say?” Lila was sweating. Before she could answer, a projector was being lowered. “Oh. It looks like it’s too late. Everyone, we are going to be viewing some never before seen footage from the day in question.” He covered his mic. “I told you you should have come clean yourself.” Lila was too horrified to even give Adrien a glare.
The footage started playing. Alya was backing up from the camera. “Alright,” she said. “I really feel like something is going to happen today. The tension between Lila and Marinette is at an all time high. I know everyone loves Lila, but I know Marinette. She has her faults, but she wouldn’t do something nasty. At least, I don’t think she would. But this is why this is here. To prove it. I’ll check on you later, OK?” Alya walked off.
Nothing of interest was happening for a bit, so Alya scrubbed through it until Marinette came onto the screen. She started playing it again. Marinette looked into the box to make sure the camera really was in there. She sighed. “OK. It looks like you’re recording… Listen, I don’t know what’s going to happen. I don’t even know what’s been happening. I feel like every time I say anything, Lila just contradicts me. Like, I could say ‘I’m hungry’ and Lila could get the class to believe I wasn’t, or even that I somehow didn’t need food.” She sighed again. “But alone, I just want you to know, you’re my best friend. Maybe I could have handled this Lila thing better. Maybe I could tone down my anger. But the one truth in all of this is you mean more to me than you could imagine. So I want you to know that come what may, I still want to be friends. I guess I’ll get your response after you see this.” She walked away nervously.
A few moments later, Lila showed up. “Aww! How sweet,” she remarked. “Only matched by her naivety. I knew you had a little camera nook, but I could never find it until now. And it’s all thanks to that I can finally get rid of her. Do you know how exhausting it is to have someone challenging you at every turn when you’re trying to become the most popular girl in school?
Well, that won’t be a problem anymore. Honestly, I don’t even know why I’m still talking. Maybe I just need to vent. Trying to undermine that bitch is a herculean task. But no matter. You’ll never see this anyway. And as soon as she’s gone, it’ll be just us. Forever.” She gave an evil grin. She took out a pen, and poked it through the hole in the nook to push the camera over.
The camera was now faced with the darkness in the wall. Alya stopped the footage. Lila looked around. Adrien smirked. Gabriel was displeased. Marinette and Chloe were angry. She looked out into the crowd. Everyone glaring at her. Lila was finished, and she knew it. She fell to her knees before collapsing into herself entirely.
That Saturday, Adrien walked into the Dupain-Cheng Bakery with a duffel bag. “Hi Mrs. Cheng. Mr. Dupain.”
“Hello sweetie,” Sabine said.
“Hey Adrien,” Tom said.
“So, how have things been?” Adrien asked.
“Business has practically been non-stop,” Tom answered.
“It’s almost a little too much,” Sabine added.
“Well, uh, sorry?” Adrien replied, unsure of what to actually say.
“I said ‘almost’, we’re fine,” Sabine said.
“Yeah,”Tom said. “Besides, it’s been a while since we’ve had this many customers. I kind of missed it.”
Adrien smiled. “Well, I’m glad you’re happy.”
“Well, it’s all thanks to you,” Sabine said.
“It was a team effort,” Adrien brushed off, a little embarrassed.
“Yeah, but you got the ball rolling,” Tom retorted.
“Well…”
“Just take the compliment, sweetie,” Sabine said.
Adrien nodded. “Will do.”
“Marinette’s in her room,” Sabine said.
“She’s been waiting for you,” Tom added.
“Thanks,” Adrien said. He headed up.
There was a knock at Marinette’s door. “Come in,” she said. Adrien popped in. Marinette walked over to him. “Welcome sweetie.” They exchanged a kiss. “So, what’s the plan?”
“Well, I brought some snacks, some movies, some games,” Adrien said. “So really, it’s up to you.” Marinette giggled in excitement. “So, how have you been?”
“You asked me that every day since the show,” Marinette said.
“Yeah, but I’m always curious,” Adrien replied.
Marinette rolled her eyes. “Well, like I told you the previous days, I’m doing alright. I’m working things out with the school to come back. People have been apologizing to me left, right, and center. I’m also working things out with your father now that I’m going to be a full-time student again. It’s been a little exhausting, but it feels good.”
Adrien smiled. “Well that’s good. But that’s also why I’m here.” He set his duffle bag down. “These past few days have been a lot, so let’s just relax. He opened the duffel bag. “So, where would you like to begin?” Marinette began looking through the duffel bag. They spent the Saturday hanging out, doing all sorts of fun and cozy things.
Later that night, Tom and Sabine came to check in on them. They were ready to give them some snacks, but Marinette and Adrien had already fallen asleep on each other. They smiled, and quietly left, leaving them nestled together in their slumber. For the first time in a long time, the Dupain-Cheng house was at peace.

"It was a nice day. All the days had been nice. There had been rather more than seven of them so far, and rain hadn't been invented yet. ML: Isolation Chapter 45: Countdown
Monday morning, Marinette found herself in front of a dance studio. She looked down at her phone. “This is the place Mrs. Agreste told me to come to…” She was still a little unsure, but for the sake of freeing her friends from Lila’s grasp, she walked in.
As Marinette entered, she found Emilie sitting in a chair. Emilie noticed her and giggled. “Hi Marinette. Are you ready?”
Marinette took off her disguise. “Um, I think so. Why are we at a dance studio?”
“Well, this place has ample room so you can spread your wings,” Emilie answered. “Plus, it’s discrete, so you don’t need to worry about others seeing you. Any other questions before we get started?”
Marinette gulped. “Will this be hard?”
“Hm hm hm,” Emilie giggled. “Well, it depends.” She stood up, and walked toward Marinette, placing her hands on her shoulders. “Personally, I think you have a magnificent presence already.” She let go of one shoulder and reached out with it. “And besides, this is a one time thing to snare Lila once and for all. Plus, this will be your first public appearance.” She looked at Marinette. “As wonderful as your designs are, I don’t think anyone is going to expect you to be an expert on the catwalk. So, are you ready?”
Marinette was relieved. With determination in her heart, she said “Yes!”
“Great!” Emilie replied, clapping her hands. “Let’s get started.” They started work on getting Marinette ready for primetime.
Meanwhile, Miss Bustier’s class was on edge. A wall of ice had been formed between Lila and Adrien. Yet, unlike the last time this had happened, the class was unsure of who to believe. Also unlike last time, Lila couldn’t do much because she knew Adrien would just retaliate with that recording of her. But as far as she was concerned, all she had to do was figure out a way to expose Adrien’s lie before he exposed hers.
Unfortunately for her, he wasn’t lying. Despite her not wanting to believe it, it was true that he was dating Ladybug. And as far as Adrien was concerned, he just had to bide his time until Marinette was ready to debut.
Still, this whole situation put the class in a predicament. Who should they believe: Adrien, or Lila? They didn’t know, and not knowing was difficult. Some believed Adrien, while others believed Lila. They had their reasons.
This state of affairs continued throughout the week. With Adrien lying in wait, Lila trying to figure out how to get Adrien to admit he’s lying, and the class being torn. Adrien and Kagami took up various Cat Noir requests. It was all anyone could do.
During this time, Marinette was practicing how to take the catwalk, and was getting pretty decent at it. Thursday afternoon, after going through one of her routines, Emilie clapped for her. “Well done Marinette.”
Marinette got slightly embarrassed. “Eh heh, thanks.”
Emilie walked over to her. “You know, once this is all over, maybe you could become a model full-time.”
“I’ll…think about it…” Marinette said, nervously. “I’d still want to design though.”
“Oh, of course,” Emilie said.
“Um, do you think I’m ready?” Marinette asked.
“Hmmmm,” Emilie thought. “Well, more practice couldn’t hurt. But if you want Gabriel to schedule something, we can do that now. You’ve been doing exceptionally well.”
Marinette hugged Emilie. “Thank you, Mrs. Agreste.”
Emilie was a little surprised, but hugged back. “For you, anything.” They let go and contacted Gabriel.
Friday after school, everyone was getting ready to go, when Alya checked her phone. “WOAH!” she exclaimed loud enough for all to hear. “Sorry…” Alya said, getting slightly embarrassed. “But Gabriel is holding a fashion show next week Wednesday!”
“Uh, so?” Alix wondered. “Don’t they do stuff like that all the time?”
“Well, yes…” Alya said. “But this is different. They’re advertising the first public appearance of Ladybug!” The whole class gasped in awe.
“Um,” Lila interjected. “You mean like a brief appearance where we still won’t find out who she is? I mean, aside from me, of course, since we’re friends.”
“Nope!” Alya answered. “This is being advertised as a full reveal. ‘For the first time, see the face of the genius behind such bold and artistic fashion!’”
“Oh,” Lila said, somewhat shocked.
Adrien capitalized on such shock. “We finalized the date last night, but this has been in the works for a little bit.” The class looked at Adrien.
“You mean, you knew about this?” Mylene asked.
“Of course,” Adrien said. “After all, I’m going to be in it as well. But I wanted it to be a surprise.”
“Ooooo! I love surprises,” Rose said.
“Well then I can guarantee you’ll love Wednesday’s show,” Adrien said.
“I can’t wait!” Rose said.
“Neither can I,” Lila said. “I bet you can’t either. After all, you’ll finally get to meet Ladybug.”
Adrien got a little annoyed. “This again? I thought this could be a nice little moment that we could all enjoy. We didn’t need to drag our little disagreement into this.”
The class grew on edge again. Lila shook her head. “Well, need I remind you, this appearance could solve ‘our little disagreement’.”
“You don’t need to remind me at all,” Adrien replied. “I just wanted to not get into another argument during this announcement. Yet here we are.”
“Well, there are easier ways to end this argument,” Lila said. “Like you admitting that I’m telling the truth.”
“Of course,” Adrien said. “Although the truth is that I’m dating Ladybug, and you and her aren’t best friends. I mean, you didn’t know about this until just now anyway.” The class murmured.
Lila was a little frustrated. “Well, I bet she was just doing this to surprise me.”
“Now THAT I can believe,” Adrien said. “She’s doing this to surprise everyone.”
Lila rolled her eyes. “I mean, when I speak with her next, she’ll explain that she wanted to surprise me.”
“Right,” Adrien said. “Still holding that up until the bitter end.”
“Well, I could say the same for you,” Lila retorted.
“I see,” Adrien said. “Well, sorry everyone. It looks like we’ll just have to wait until Wednesday for this to be all sorted out. But I hope you enjoy your weekends nonetheless. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go. After all, I have a show to do, and I’d like to prepare.” He left the classroom. Behind him, the class was talking amongst themselves about what had just happened, as well as what will happen. Lila glared at him as he left.
As Adrien was just about to leave, he got a message. He checked, and it was from Lila. “You know when Ladybug reveals herself and it's someone you don’t know, they will turn on you.”
Adrien rolled his eyes. “I told you, my relationship with her was a secret. So of course it would probably be someone people would not think of me as knowing. Of course, the same could be said for your story. So we’ll see who’s lack of prior knowledge will be tested come Wednesday. Of course, you could just admit you’re lying now.”
“Why would I admit I’m lying without you admitting you’re also lying?”
“Because I’m not. And as soon as you can accept that and accept that maybe you’ve lost this one, you might save yourself a little embarrassment. Because it’s either now or Wednesday. And if you want to leave with a shred of dignity, I’d suggest now.”
“How are you keeping up this lie?”
“So you’ve chosen death. Very well.”
“ANSWER ME!”
“I keep telling you, it’s not a lie. But you aren’t interested in hearing that.”
“How can I get you to cool the temperature between us?”
“I told you that too. Just admit you’re lying before Wednesday, and this will all be cool.
“Why are you like this?”
“I’m just telling you the truth.”
“We’ll see about that.”
Adrien giggled to himself. “Well, if she had learned her lesson, this would be a little less fun.” He then gave Marinette a call.
Marinette was taking a break from modeling practice when she answered her phone. “Hello?”
“Hey ‘Ladybug’,” Adrien replied.
Marinette slightly chuckled. “What’s up, ‘Cat Noir’?”
“I was thinking…” Adrien said, “as much as I’ve been enjoying our Saturdays, maybe it would be better if we didn’t meet. I feel like with the reveal of the show, Lila will be more on edge than ever.”
“I…understand,” Marinette said. “I'm gonna miss it. But your mom wants to work with me some more anyway, so I guess this works on multiple fronts.”
“I guess it does,” Adrien replied. “I’ll see you at the show then?”
“Obviously,” Marinette replied. “I love you.”
“I love you too,” Adrien said. He gave the phone a kissy noise. Marinette responded in kind, and the two hung up.
On Saturday, Adrien gave Marinette another call. “Hello?” Marinette answered.
“Hey,” Adrien said. “Even though we aren’t meeting up, I still want to talk. Is that alright?”
Marinette smiled. “It’s perfect.”
Adrien smiled. “So, how’s your training coming?”
“It’s been going pretty well,” Marinette answered. “Your mom’s a really good teacher.”
“I’m glad to hear that,” Adrien responded.
“So, what are you doing now?” Marinette asked.
“Oh, well, I stopped over at my father’s company,” Adrien informed her. “I went to see how your designs are coming along.”
“And?”
Adrien took another look at them. “They’re perfect.”
Marinette blushed. “Thank you. …You know, I was supposed to make those just for us…”
“Oh, don’t worry about it,” Adrien said. “I’m not usually one to overdress outside of work. I’d wear a burlap sack if it meant I got to spend time with you.”
“Hm hm, thanks,” Marinette said.
Adrien smiled. “So, are you excited for the truth to come out?”
Marinette smiled back. “More than anything.”
“Well then, I shouldn’t keep you waiting,” Adrien replied. “I imagine my mother has some more things she’d like to teach you.”
“Of course,” Marinette said. “See you Wednesday?”
“Of course,” Adrien said. “Bye.”
“Bye,” Marinette responded. They hung up. Marinette went back to her practice while Adrien watched as the outfits were being made.
Monday morning, Adrien entered the room before class started. His presence was felt almost immediately, and that’s just how he wanted it. He walked in with swagger as everyone gathered around him. “Hello everyone,” he said. “I have something for you all.” Everyone was looking at him in awe. He reached into his pocket, and pulled out an envelope. “Ladybug has been generous enough to invite you all to Wednesday’s show.” The class gasped. “She’s even giving you all an extra ticket, so you can each bring a guest.” He started handing them out to everyone.
Lila was a little confused. Adrien looked up at her. “Hey,” he called out. Lila walked over. “She gave you tickets too. After all, she doesn’t want her ‘best friend’ to miss the show.”
Lila smirked. “Well, seeing as we are friends, she already gave me a ticket.”
“Right,” Adrien said.
“But, I overheard a kid really wanting to go see Ladybug, so out of the kindness of my heart, I gave my ticket to her,” Lila continued. “So I’ll gladly take these tickets.” She took her tickets.
“Hm,” Adrien said. “Well, we can’t wait to see you all. We’ll be sure to put on a good show.”
Everyone got their tickets and headed to their seats. Lila was still confused. She got a text from Adrien. “Don’t worry,” it read. “We can get an extra ticket for a kid. Just for you.”
“Why are you giving away tickets to your downfall?”
“They’re for your downfall, not mine.”
“You are forgetting that I have more good will. I’ve been here longer, and I’ve been a good friend to everyone.”
“Sure, but what you’re forgetting (or at least ignoring) is that I have the truth.”
“You don’t! I know a lie when I see it!”
“Really? Because you didn’t seem to pick up on ‘that was a lovely tour of the Louvre’.”
Lila was shocked. “You didn’t like my tour?!”
“Are you kidding? Your lack of knowledge about what the Louvre has to offer is only matched by your insistence that I don't know who Ladybug is.”
“Well, we’ll just see who’s lying more on Wednesday, I suppose.”
“Or you could just come clean now. It’s your last chance.”
“I keep telling you, only if you do it with me.”
“Well, I don’t want to lie and say I don’t know Ladybug.”
“I don’t know why you’d go this far to embarrass yourself.”
“Myself? No. You? Certainly.”
Lila pouted, glared at the back of Adrien’s head, and put her phone away before class began. Adrien let out a slight chuckle.
At lunch, Luka was sitting down to eat, when Kagami messaged him. He checked his phone. “Hey. I’m calling in that favor. Are you ready?”
“Yeah,” Luka replied.
“OK. Here’s the plan. You’re going to go to the patisserie across the street. You can order whatever you want, but be sure to order something. And ask for ‘The Surprise’. They will put it in a box for you. You are to deliver the box containing ‘The Surprise’ to me. Can you handle that?”
“Sure.”
“OK. Great. Can you do it after school?”
“Oh, uh, sure.”
“Great. I’ll be by the lockers.”
“OK. See you then.” Luka put his phone away, and then ate his lunch.
After school, as Adrien was about to leave, he was stopped by Nino and Alya. “Oh. Hey you two. What’s up?”
Alya was a little nervous. “Well, um, not to sound greedy, but…”
“You see,” Nino interjected, “Alya has twin sisters, and she wants to bring them. I would offer my ticket, but then Chris wouldn’t get to go.”
Adrien was confused. “Are…you sure Chris would like going to a fashion show? I mean, we’re happy to have him...”
“Well, I mean, it beats another afternoon alone,” Nino said.
“Gotcha,” Adrien said.
“So,” Alya said, jumping back in, “we were wondering if you could give us another ticket.”
Before Adrien could do anything, Chloe made herself known. “AHEM!” Everyone looked at her. “You can have mine.”
Nino and Alya were a little surprised. “Are you sure?”
“I mean, Sabrina’s going already,” Chloe continued. “Adrien’s obviously going to be there. And I'm sure daddy can get seats if he wants to. So, I don’t need it for anything else.” She forced it into Alya’s hand.
Alya was still a little surprised. “Well, thanks.”
“You’re welcome,” Chloe said. She ran off, slightly embarrassed.
“Hm,” Alya said, impressed.
“I’ll say,” Nino said. “I didn’t know Chloe had it in her.”
Adrien chuckled. “I did. She just…needs a push sometimes.”
“Right,” Alya said.
“Well, I should get going,” Adrien said. “I have to get ready.”
He started to leave when Nino called out “Hey!” Adrien looked back. “Break a leg!”
Adrien smiled. “I will. Thanks.” He continued off.
Meanwhile, Luka was at the Dupain-Cheng bakery. “Uh, hi.”
“How can we help you dear?” Sabine asked.
“I would like a bag of cookies,” Luka said.
“Why certainly,” Sabine replied.
“And, um, I’ll also take ‘The Surprise’,” Luka added.
Sabine and Tom were shocked. “Oh, YOU’RE here for ‘The Surprise’,” Sabine said.
“That’s right,” Luka replied.
“Do you know who it’s for?” Sabine asked.
“Well…sort of?” Luka answered. “I was not given a lot of details. I was told by someone that someone else might be watching.”
“And who would that someone who told you be?” Tom asked.
Luka panicked. But then he found the solution. “Ummmm, Cat Noir,” he said nervously.
“Well then, if it’s for Cat Noir, then we can give you ‘The Surprise’,” Tom said. “Don’t you think, dear?”
“Well of course dear,” Sabine replied. “Why don’t you get it, while I work on this young man’s order.”
“On it,” Tom said. He went back to his abode and up the stairs.
Sabine was working on Luka’s order, while he began pondering something. “Actually, make that two bags of cookies.”
“Of course dearie,” Sabine said. She prepared for this addition. Tom came back down with the camera, and began to box it up. Sabine had finished Luka’s order. “Here you go.” She gave him the two bags, and Tom gave him the box.
Luka paid. “Thanks.” He took the bags and the box, and left.
Minutes later, Luka arrived at the lockers with the box. Kagami was waiting for him. “Hey,” she greeted.
“Hey yourself,” Luka said. He gifted her the box.
“What’d you get?” Kagami asked. “For yourself, I mean.”
“Cookies,” Luka answered. He held up a bag. “Want one?”
Kagami looked at the bag. “Fine.” She took one and bit into it. She chewed for a little while. “These are pretty good.”
“Well, I’m glad you enjoy them,” Luka said. He presented the box “And this is for you.”
Kagmi took it. “Thanks.”
Luka smiled. “No problem.” He walked off.
Kagami entered the locker room. She sent a quick text, and then opened the box to be sure. When it was opened, she was surprised. The camera was in there, as she expected, but alongside it was another bag of cookies with a label reading “For you” attached to it. Kagami was a little embarrassed and grabbed the cookies.
“Hey,” Alya said, just arriving. Kagami turned in a flash, a little spooked. This surprised Alya somewhat. “OooooK then… Anyway, I’m here for ‘The Surprise’.”
“Oh. RIght,” Kagami said. She closed the box and offered it to Alya. “Here you go.”
Alya was now more confused. “Um, are you alright?”
“Yeah,” Kagami said. “I’m just fine. Anyway, can’t wait until Wednesday.”
Alya decided not to push it for now. “Right. Well, see you then.”
“Seeya,” Kagami rushed out. Alya shrugged and followed her out.
That night, Manon was playing in the lobby of the TV station when she heard a “Hi there.”
She looked up to see Adrien dressed as Cat Noir. “Cat Noir?!” she said.
“The one and only.”
Manon giggled. “What are you doing here?”
“Well, I’m here with a gift,” Adren answered. “Tell me, do you like Ladybug?”
“Of course!” Manon answered.
Adrien chuckled. “I knew you did. You want to go to her big reveal?”
“Yeah!” Manon said.
“Well, I have a ticket, just for you,” Adrien said, pulling out a ticket. He offered it to her.
Manon took it, but then grew concerned. “Um, mommy’s going to be covering the show, so I can’t go with her. And I can’t go alone…”
“Hmmm,” Adrien thought. “That does put us in a pickle. Tell you what, why don’t I ask Adrien Agreste to accompany you?”
Manon gasped. “You know Adrien Agreste?!”
Adrien nodded. “I know him very well.”
“Well…if you say so, Mr. Cat Noir,” Manon said. “Thanks.”
“No problem,” Adrien said. He left the lobby.
Come Wednesday morning, and the class was in a fervor about that afternoon’s show. They would finally get to see Ladybug. And the squabble between two of their classmates would come to an end.
Lil was still bitterly waiting for the moment Adrien would pull the plug on this. In her mind, they would both be taken down as liars, but Adrien was stubborn enough to let it happen. Her mood did not improve when she got a text from Adrien. “Last chance. I can call this off if you admit it.”
“Bite me.”
“Woah! Strong words. Although, I don’t know if you’d want that. I mean, you’ve bitten off more than you can chew. So if I were to use your metric, I’d get an arm at least.”
“Fuck off.”
“Well, don’t say I didn’t warn you.” They put their phones away, and got ready for class. Little did Lila know, it was her last before it would all come crumbling down.

Greetings, bestie.
Beautiful, fantastic, stunning, and intelligent as always.
But in my infinite wisdom and never ending judgment, I couldn’t help but observe you’re just a little dry.
Here, take this. It’s a big fucking jug of water. Chug the shit out of it.
Drink to your heart's content.
You will stay hydrated.
I’m starting my own 10 commandments, and this is actually at the top of the list, so for there to be piss, there must first be slurp.
So sayeth Gabriel, Judge of Hell, and judge of your bladder.
Drink up. And the urine will await you down below.
