SS23 LOOK, NYC Melitta Baumeister in style of Nicasio Torres and Megan Hess:
This look is the first look of 4 in my series of SS23 looks in the style of 2 artists. I made this piece to challenge myself to be able to merge the styles of two different artists, Nicasio Torres and Megan Hess. This piece was made my using Pro Marker for the dress with white gel pen for highlights, marker and water (same process as Cassandra Rhodin piece) for the skin. Once this was done, I painted PVA glue over the dress and shoes to give a shinier look like the one from Melitta Baumeister’s Spring/Summer Look 1. The best feature of this work is that I used PVA glue to add more texture to what would just be a very flat and boring illustration. If I were to do this again, I would add more of the artists illustrations to the page around it and also to use watercolour instead of marker and water as this is what Nicasio Torres uses. From this piece, I have learned that PVA glue can be very versatile, it can be used to add texture and not just to glue things together.

De mi casa yo he salido,
he salido dando vueltas,
por no cantar en la esquina,
vengo a cantar a tu puerta. Agradable compadrito,

Short Story: Naomi Kanakia “Everquest”
If you are a trans gamer, it’s practically a guarantee that some of your first experiments with gender were digital. I absolutely created more than a few female Night Elves on my friend’s World of Warcraft account when I was a deep-in-the-closet preteen. Naomi Kanakia’s “Everquest” dives deep into this relationship between avatar and self. By literalizing the fantasy of this transformation, Kanakia captures a uniquely trans feeling of escape that gaming allows and ends in a space that is both melancholy but also undeniably hopeful and at peace.
The short story is available for free in the Lightspeed Magazine.

Monday
It is labor day! We did the Lucas Valley Populaire route. Nate rode the BMC (new wheels!) and I rode black bike.
Tumblr media
First we had to ride to the start (first checkpoint), which I mistakenly thought was this Crissy Field area. It wasn't, so I fucked up the route immediately.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After that detour, we crossed the bridge, went over Camino Alto, and followed the route to San Rafael.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We then rode around China Camp (second checkpoint).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It was very beautiful! I did not get that many photos.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After this, we rode out of China Camp and up a horrible climb along Lucas Valley Road (not shown, because I was busy suffering).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Eventually reached Nicasio (third checkpoint). There was nothing there, so we headed back home.
Notes: - It was a nice day outside today. Sunny but not hot, and not too many people out there initially. - Several climbs that I struggled with: Wolfe Grade, something coming out of San Rafael (but it was only like 1 second of climb), and that very brutal climb near Big Rock. WOW Nate said "it's easier than White Hill" so I felt okay going into it. It was NOT easier than White Hill and it was way longer. - Nate was mean to me during this whole ride because he was trying to go faster and I was feeling sluggish and lazy. In the end we completed this ride within the cutoff time (although we had the wrong start/end checkpoints), so suck it! - But I am truly going too slowly to be doing longer rides, so the next time I ride over 50 miles I am taking Nate's mog. - Strava
