Nashville

Nashville is back, and it’s an emotional blast Nashville comes back on Thursday night to finish out its sixth and final season. During its CMT mid-season break, the show upheld one of its traditions: Just about every main character has undergone a hairstyle alteration—you’ll dig those frosted tips on Sam Palladio’s Gunnar… or not. Also, Lennon Stella’s Maddie seems to have aged by a decade—she suddenly looks so mature, which may just be her incipient pop stardom kicking in. The new episode, directed by former thirtysomething co-star Timothy Busfield, is timed to a New Year’s Eve celebration that finds Charles Esten’s Deacon being pitied by one and all for still being single and lonely—it’s his first New Year’s Eve without his beloved Rayna. (Connie Britton, whose new, terrible Fox show 9-1-1 premiered the previous night, may be wishing right about now that Rayna was still alive.)

With the arrival of thirtysomething co-creators Marshall Herskovitz and Ed Zwick as showrunners in season five, Nashville’s volume was turned down to a confiding murmur, its lighting dimmed to a luminous glow. Herskovitz and Zwick specialize in conversational intimacies, and thus the show’s center of gravity shifted away from the bright country music being played at the Bluebird Café toward more domestic locations, such as Deacon’s kitchen (where he, Maddie, and Daphne [Maisy Stella] munch toast and bond) or the cavernous rooms of the property owned by Hayden Panetierre’s Juliette Barnes (where she and Jonathan Jackon’s Avery snipe and bicker over the head of their luckless baby).

The move to romantic drama has served Nashville well: After all, so much of country music’s subject matter dovetails with the kinds of strife these characters undergo. Then too, Herskovitz and Zwick are not damp-eyed sentimentalists. They’re wickedly good at building up characters you love to hate: I smile every time Jeffrey Nordling’s smuggie music exec Brad Maitland slithers into a scene, and the new episode introduces Juliette’s latest potential savior, a smarmy self-actualizing guru played by Parenthood’s Josh Stamberg. There’s also a new, naughty-boy love interest for Maddie, a Justin Bieber-ish whelp played by Nic Luken. When you combine this bubbly soap opera material with amusingly lively scenes of Will (Chris Carmack), Avery, and Gunnar getting together to form the band you didn’t know you’d always wanted, Nashville seems to be going out with an enjoyable blast.

Nashville airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. on CMT.

we all always knew it was never about yt woman ship getting more or better 😂 bc we know they’ll do way more for claud/el for their yt ship but it was just about the fact Nicola was bigger then the show and fandom and her character ship and therefore colin/luke also being bigger then the fandom and the show because nic and her character is the face of the show and it’s all centered around nic as actress and her character in the overall shows story and glad we all see that know even if we kinda always knew and figured that sh*t out from day1 because they wasn’t acting like this about Daphn or Phoebe or her ship bc then it wasn’t a yt character or yt woman is the face of the show that’s got so much diversity 😂 but since nic snd her become or in truth was always just bigger then the show it’s all of sudden a problem ofc nic was bc she came straight from derry girls which is the biggest UK show in like a decade and the others were unknown so ofc she became the face of the whole show from day1 and Shonda loved her so much she centered the story around her, her character and her love story the people that mattered the most aka colin and her family that was also much less in the books now can y’all leave my girl nic and my boy Luke/colin alone and ofc the best ship polin thanks it’s new season soon let’s move on from them y’all say but never stop mentioning them and the actors daily even on ur favs announcement it’s always Luke/Nic name in y’all mouths i guess we all know who the show is about now 🤭🤭 and guess y’all are no different then us who love them because y’all too can’t move on from them or stop obsessing and shipping them I get guys don’t worry it’s very hard to move on from the obsession is real and it’s bad bc of lukenic we need help all of us 😔

The problem is that the problematic parts of the fandom are loud!! Just to see hating on actors, on their characters, the storylines (they weren't good on se imo but it's not the actors fault!) or worse still shipping actors irl (LukeN and Nic, Luke dating and NIC we don't know but still so wrong), Victor (a married man) with Hannah, still Luke T and Harriet ( this one is also so wrong, mostly cause I saw Harriet last Saturday on a club in Peckham, London and she was with the same man she took to the NY premiere)

Like, fans can be horrible. We don't know anything of S4 and they are already fighting!

Like touch some grass and live!

Obviously without the hate and violence, we all have some character we like more.

It's so pathetic when people fight over a show or actors for me.

"I promise not to quit if you don't." Check out this trailer for a little indie film profiling the life of a BMX rider from Glasgow, Scotland. Ride is about BMX pro John Buultjens, played by Shane Graham. Raised by a white supremacist family, John spent most of his youth locked up in a juvenile detention center. He eventually gets introduced to a foster family, only to discover his new father is black, but together they work through to overcome his racism and "form a bond that helps thrust him down the path to BMX glory." The cast includes Ludacris, Sasha Alexander, Blake Sheldon, Jessica Serfaty, Ali Afshar, Nic Luken, Christina Moore, and Zaire Adams. This is premiering at the Newport Beach Film Festival, and should hit theaters later this summer. This looks very good, featuring a sport we don't usually see on the big screen. ›››
