The house was filled with the sound of wailing. A sharp, piercing cry echoed through the walls, shaking the foundation of the home you had built together. Your four-year-old daughter, Hina, sobbed uncontrollably, her tiny fists curled tightly against her chest.

"Shh, baby, I know," you cooed, running a soothing hand down her trembling back. "I know you're upset, sweetheart."

But she wouldn't calm down. No matter how many times you whispered reassurances, rocked her gently in your arms, or wiped away the steady stream of tears staining her chubby cheeks—she wouldn't stop.

And the reason for her distress made your heart ache even more.

Today was supposed to be her special day. The day she had been looking forward to all week—the trip to the amusement park with Mama and Daddy. Her excitement had been boundless the moment she'd woken up, but as the hours passed and Ni-ki still hadn’t come home, that excitement quickly melted into heartbreak.

You had tried to distract her with her favourite cartoons, bake her favourite cookies, and even play her favourite songs for her to sing along to, but none of it worked. The only thing she truly wanted was for her father to keep his promise.

And Ni-ki never came.

By the time he did, it was late in the afternoon, the sky painted in hues of orange and pink. He stepped inside with heavy steps, exhaustion weighing on him like a boulder. He had spent all day buried in work, rushing to meet deadlines, attending endless meetings, and barely having a second to check his phone.

Then, he heard it—the cries.

Your sniffles.

His heart clenched painfully in his chest when he walked into the living room and saw the two of you sitting on the couch, your eyes red and swollen, with Hina still sobbing in your arms.

"I tried so hard, but she wouldn't stop crying," you murmured voice breaking, your tears slipping down your cheeks. "She just... she just wanted to go with us."

Guilt hit him like a tidal wave.

Ni-ki dropped his bag and immediately made his way toward the couch. He crouched in front of the two of you, reaching to cup your face, his thumb gently wiping away your tears.

"Baby," he whispered, voice thick with regret. "I’m so sorry."

Hina sniffled, peeking up at her father with teary eyes. Her little hands reached out for him, and without hesitation, he pulled her into his arms, holding her tightly against his chest. He pressed soft kisses to her hair, whispering apologies repeatedly.

"I promised, didn't I?" His voice cracked. "I should've been here. I should’ve been there for you."

Hina let out a tiny hiccup, gripping onto his shirt. Her sobs finally quieted down as she melted into his warmth.

"Park…" she mumbled, her voice laced with exhaustion. "I wanted… Mama and Daddy… park…"

Ni-ki swallowed past the lump in his throat, pulling back to meet her big, watery eyes. "I know, baby. I know you did. But listen tomorrow—Daddy doesn't have work tomorrow."

Her eyes widened just a little. "Really?"

"Really," he confirmed with a firm nod. "Tomorrow, we're going to the amusement park, and we're going to explore everything you want. We'll eat ice cream, take pictures, and make many memories, okay?"

She hesitated momentarily, her tiny lips forming a pout, before finally nodding. "Okay."

You let out a deep breath, watching as she buried her face into Ni-ki’s chest, her tiny hands still clinging to him. You met his eyes, and despite the exhaustion he carried, the regret that still lingered in his features, there was a promise in them—one he wouldn’t break again.

"Thank you," you whispered, your hand resting over his.

He brought your fingers to his lips, pressing a kiss against them. "Thank you for always holding it together when I can’t. I promise—tomorrow will be perfect."

And for the first time that day, a small, genuine smile crept onto Hina’s lips.

And Ni-ki knew—he would do anything to keep it there.

The following day, the sun rose early, casting a warm golden glow over the kitchen as you stirred pancake batter. The air smelled of vanilla and sweetness, a comfort after yesterday's emotional storm. Hina was already up, her tiny body bouncing with excitement as she ran around the living room, still in her pyjamas but with a sparkle in her eyes that hadn't been there the night before.

"Daddy’s gonna take us today, right, Mama?" she asked, her voice high-pitched with anticipation.

You smiled, turning around from the stove to glimpse her wide-eyed innocence. "Of course, baby. We're going to the park today. Everything's going to be just like you imagined."

Now dressed in his favourite graphic tee and jeans, Ni-ki came into the room, running a hand through his messy hair. His tired eyes were softer this morning, no longer heavy with guilt but filled with determination to make today perfect.

"Good morning, love," you greeted him, offering him a plate of pancakes. "Hina’s ready to go already."

He bent down to kiss the top of Hina's head, his lips lingering on her hair. "Hey there, little one. Are we ready for our adventure?"

Without warning, she jumped into his arms, her giggle echoing through the kitchen. "YES! We're going to the rollercoaster (the kiddie one ofc)! And the Ferris wheel! And the ice cream!"

Ni-ki laughed softly, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "Alright, alright. We’ll do it all. But only if you promise not to scream too loud on the rollercoaster, okay? I’m not as brave as you."

She giggled again, pulling his cheeks. "I promise, Daddy."

After a final check of the time, you ensured the bag was packed—sunscreen, snacks, water bottles, and the camera. You couldn’t help but glance at the small notebook you kept, where you wrote down your family memories. Today would be another page full of laughter, love, and the tiny details that made your little family special.

After a quick breakfast, you bundled Hina into her favourite dress—pink with little unicorns—and did her hair into two cute pigtails that bounced as she hopped along the sidewalk toward the car. Ni-ki grabbed a photo of her, his camera clicking away as he captured the morning light glinting off her joyful face.

"Cheese!" she giggled, striking a silly pose with one hand on her hip and the other holding a pretend microphone to her mouth.

You both couldn’t help but laugh as Ni-ki snapped the picture, the two of you exchanging a knowing look that spoke volumes. This was the moment—the one you would treasure forever.

As you all arrived at the park, the familiar sights of giant rollercoasters and spinning rides greeted you. Hina’s face lit up, her little hand gripping Ni-ki’s tightly as they walked together, your hand resting comfortably in his. There was something so right about this picture—the three of you, all together, all in the right place.

"Look, Mama! I wanna go there!" Hina pointed to the carousel, her eyes wide in awe.

You smiled, adjusting the strap of your camera. "Of course, sweetheart. Let’s go."

Ni-ki scooped her up without hesitation, his strong arms lifting her effortlessly as he approached the ride. You walked behind them, snapping photos as the two shared a private moment—Ni-ki gently whispering something to Hina that made her laugh, her cheeks flushed with excitement.

the muffled voices of your parents’ argument leaked through the thin walls of your room, growing louder with every passing second. they were fighting, again. you pressed your hands harder against your headphones, hoping the music would drown out their voices but it wasn’t working. you couldn’t make out what they were saying but it didn’t matter. the tone was enough to make your chest tighten and your eyes sting.

you were curled up on your bed, knees pulled to your chest with a blanket wrapped tightly around you. your cheeks were damp with tears and no matter how many times you wiped them away, they kept coming. hot, silent, endless.

your phone lay beside you, the screen glowing faintly in the dim light. you stared at it, the thought of reaching out to someone clawing at the edges of your mind. your fingers trembled as you picked it up, hesitating before opening the chat with him, riki, your boyfriend.

you: riki, can we meet? i can’t stay here anymore

the message hung there, delivered but not yet read. you bit your lip, anxiety curling in your stomach as you waited. each second felt like an eternity. finally, the little bubble indicating he was typing appeared.

riki: where are you?

you: home

riki: can you go out?

your heart raced as you read his reply. you couldn't let your parents find out. no, they wouldn't allow you to go out so late at night. so you had no choice but to sneak out. sneaking out wasn’t something you usually did but tonight, the thought of staying in your room, in this house filled with arguments and tension was unbearable. you took a deep breath and typed back.

you: i’ll meet you at the park

riki: on my way. be careful

you set your phone down and stared at the window. the night was dark, the faint glow of the streetlights casting shadows on your bedroom walls. you pulled the blanket off and stood. quietly, you moved to the window, pushing it open just enough to let the cool night air rush in.

climbing out wasn’t easy. the sill was narrow and your hands fumbled as you tried to grip it. but desperation gave you courage and soon you were on the other side, your feet landing softly on the grass below. the world outside was silent, a stark contrast to the chaos inside.

pulling your hoodie tighter around you, you started walking. when you reached the park, you spotted riki sitting on a bench. he looked up as you approached, his expression softening when he saw you.

“hey” he said, standing and walking toward you. his hands found yours, his touch warm despite the chill in the air. “are you okay?”

the question undid you. the tears you thought you had cried out came rushing back and before you knew it, you were sobbing into his chest. he wrapped his arms around you, holding you tightly as you broke down.

“i… i couldn’t stay” you managed between sobs. “they were yelling again and i just… i couldn’t take it anymore”

“shh” he murmured, his hand gently stroking your hair. “it’s okay. you’re here now. i’ve got you”

for a while, neither of you said anything. he just held you, his presence grounding you in a way nothing else could. when your breathing finally steadied, you pulled back slightly, looking up at him.

“thank you for coming” you said.

he smiled, brushing a tear from your cheek with his thumb. “you don’t have to thank me. i’d come running anytime you need me. you know that”

you nodded, a small smile tugging at your lips. “i know”

he led you to the bench and the two of you sat down.

“do you want to talk about it?” he asked, his voice gentle.

you hesitated. part of you didn’t want to relive the night but another part of you knew you needed to let it out. “they’ve been fighting a lot lately” you said finally. “it’s like they’re always angry at each other. i don’t even remember the last time the house felt… peaceful”

he listened quietly, his gaze fixed on you.

“i feel like i’m stuck” you continued, your voice trembling. “like there’s nothing i can do to make it better. and it hurts, riki. it hurts so much”

“you don’t have to fix it” he said. “it’s not your responsibility. all you need to do is take care of yourself. and i’ll be here to help you with that. okay?”

“okay” you said, giving him a small smile.

he smiled, his grip on your hand tightening briefly before he let go and wrapped an arm around your shoulders instead. “come on” he said, tilting his head toward the swings. “let’s do something to get your mind off things”

you raised an eyebrow. “like what?”

“like swinging” he said, standing and pulling you up with him. “trust me it’ll help”

you couldn’t help but laugh. “you’re serious?”

“dead serious” he said, grinning. “come on”

you followed him to the swings.

as the swings slowed to a gentle sway, you and riki stayed seated, the cool night air wrapping around you like a comforting blanket.

“do you feel a little better now?” he asked, glancing at you from the corner of his eye.

you nodded, a small smile tugging at your lips. “yeah. thanks for this, riki. i really needed it”

he grinned, leaning back slightly on his swing. “anytime. you know i’m always here for you, right?”

“i know” you said softly, your fingers tracing the cold metal chain of the swing. “and i appreciate it more than you know”

imagine coming home, completely exhausted, barely holding yourself together. you open the door with shaky hands and stumble inside. you drop your bag by the door and just continue walking, not even bothering to take off your shoes or turn on the lights.

as soon as you see your partner sitting on the couch, watching a tv show while they wait for you, you immediately throw yourself into their arms, finally letting it all out. you cry, you sob. you’re just so so exhausted. so frustrated. so angry. so sad.

your partner doesn’t say anything. they just wrap their arms around you and let you cry it all out. you continue crying for you don’t even know how long and they continue holding you.

they gently run their fingers through your hair, whispering sweet nothings into your ears and rubbing your back. their shirt gets soaked by your tears but they don’t seem to care, you being the only important thing at the moment.

after a while, after you’ve stopped crying, you whisper to them:

“please don’t turn on the lights.”

and they don’t. they continue holding you. the only light in the room is coming from the television which they then turn off.

no words are spoken after that. the two of you just stay like that, them holding you while you close your eyes and just let yourself relax - for the first time in a while.

Nishimura Riki notices you before you do him. 

You’re sitting on the couch, scrolling on your phone mindlessly, head looking up every few minutes whenever the barista calls out a name for an order.

Even in the early morning you’re gorgeous. You’re dressed for the day in a form-fitting button up, tucked into a long pencil skirt. You’re subconsciously kicking your feet to the beat of the music playing in the background, your kitten heels bouncing up and down. 

Riki quickly orders his drink, and swiftly takes a seat beside you on the couch, keeping a respectable distance. 

At the sudden arrival of another, you sit up straighter, moving your bag out of the way. “Oh, I’m so sorry-”

You stop when you recognize that familiar smirk.

“Riki,” You smile, relaxing. “What’re you doing here? Are you spying on me?”

Taking the opportunity, Riki scoots closer to you. “Hi, I actually came here for a coffee, but meeting you here was just my luck.” He winks.

You stifle a laugh, finding his flirting cute. 

“Is this place any good? I’ve never been here.” He tries to make conversation. “It’s my favorite in town,” You say, looking around the cozy cafe.

“They do take a bit longer, but it tastes amazing so I think it’s worth it.” You explain. As you begin to tell him how you discovered the place, Riki tries his best to listen to you but everything about you is so distracting, it’s a struggle. 

Your lips look extra delicious today, he wonders what lipstick you’re wearing, he’d love to buy you more in all the colors you wanted.

Your name is suddenly called out, alongside Riki’s. The two of you stop to walk together to the counter, thanking the barista for your drinks.

“I take it you’re also on the way to the office?” Riki speaks up as he holds the door open for the both of you to exit.

“Yes, my bus should be on the way-”

“Forget the bus, let me drive you.” He flashes you his silver keys, and before you know it you’re seated passenger. Riki can’t believe his luck today, it just keeps getting better and better.

The drive is quiet, aside from you occasionally sipping your drink. 

“Thank you for the ride,” You finally speak. 

“Anything for you doll,” He’s grinning. You scoff at him, but he knows you like it when he calls you his. Eventually he pulls into the parking garage, parking in his reserved spot. He races around the back to open your door before you even have a chance to unbuckle.

“Thank you,” You smile as you take his hand, stepping out of his luxury car. Oh the things he’d do to do this every day for the rest of his life.

You two take the elevator up into the office, and Riki starts to feel anxious. This special morning with you felt like a dream come true, and now he’d be forced to wake up and face the harsh reality of a long day at work.

He’s too lost in his own thoughts to notice you’ve been eyeing him since you two entered the elevator. It’s not until you finally step closer and clear your throat, catching his attention again.

Riki looks at you curiously, you’re wearing an abnormal expression: shyness.

“M-May I?” You stutter, gently pointing at him, specifically his tie. It was loose, he hadn’t really noticed since he loathed wearing them. 

But the idea of having your delicate fingers wrapped around his neck interested him more than anything. He nods, allowing you permission almost immediately, even leaning down so you’d have better access.

You take your time adjusting and fixing his tie, wriggling it into place before laying a hand on his chest to press it flat. 

Your touch ignites his skin on fire.

“There.” You nod, before returning to your spot beside him. “Thank you,” He hums, a wide smile adorning his lips. 

“Well, we can't have someone as important as you show up to work in a loose tie,” You try to hide your embarrassment.

Riki begins to nod, of course you’re right.

“Does that mean you’ll fix it for me every morning then?” He asks, just before the elevator arrives at your floor. You step out, turn and send him a cheeky grin.

“If I must.” You sigh jokingly. You love to tease him. “Let’s get coffee together tomorrow too.” He insists.

This time you laugh, and he’s a bit disappointed to see you’re hiding your pretty smile behind your hand.

“I’ll see you later Riki,” You shake your head and the elevator doors close. As the elevator begins to move again, Riki sighs and leans against the wall, smiling like an idiot. 

That wasn’t a no, he thinks, already looking forward to tomorrow morning.

I'm so happy you guys liked my first drabble, but tbh I'm probably gonna end nepo baby here, mainly so I can focus on my other longer works/series. but who knows, maybe I'll come back to this later and write more!

“You’re avoiding me.” Riki stops in his tracks when he hears the slight crack in your voice, hesitation filling his mind. Sighing, he slowly turns to face you, an anxious expression on his face.

“I don't know what you’re talking about” You raise an eyebrow in suspicion, and Riki seems to notice. His behavior becomes cautious because he knows you can read him like an open book.

You let out a sigh, “Did I do anything wrong?” The tall male gulps and scratches the back of his neck. "N-no," he mutters. You know he’s lying — you've known him since you were five.

Whenever you try to greet him in the halls, he avoids your gaze and walks away, during lunchtime he seems to disappear from your sight, and he won’t talk to you unless you force him to. So here you are, confronting him at a bus stop.

“Tell me the truth, I don't like you avoiding me” He sighs as he knows he has to give up his facade, but instead decides to ramble out excuses and dumb reasons so he doesn't have to admit the embarrassing truth.

You scoff at his stupid excuses, determined to know the truth — you shove him onto the bench, trying to appear intimidating even though he’s still taller than you sitting down. The height difference causes a flush of red to spread across your cheeks, making you flustered.

Thoughts race through your mind as you overthink why he has been avoiding you. Is he tired of you? Is he embarrassed to be your friend? Or does he simply hate you now? Your heart aches at the possibility that it might be true.

Riki noticed your sad expression, and it felt like his heart shattered into a million pieces. The last thing he wanted was to see you upset. Yet, he couldn’t help but feel his heart flutter at the adorable pout on your lips — it was as if you had cast a spell on him.

“Listen.. It’s not that I don't want to be friends with you anymore, it's just-” You hated all of the possible reasons he might have had, so you cut him off. “Then why? Just tell me the truth.”

Riki’s eyes widened, and he felt like he could melt from embarrassment. He was hesitant to admit the reason behind his feelings. You rambled about him probably being embarrassed to be your friend and his brows furrowed to see you think he could ever feel that way. “I know it! You hate me don’t you-” But then you hear a deep voice snap, and you freeze in place.

“I like you!”

Your eyes widened, and the world seemed to stop. Riki looked down in shame, and you were still in disbelief. “You like me..?” Riki nodded, flustered as he fidgeted with his fingers.

“I'm sorry.. I know we’re just friends but-” Riki flinched in surprise when he felt you tug on his hoodie and kiss his lips, his heart thumping in his chest. His eyes widened like a deer caught in headlights.

After a few moments, he felt himself close his eyes and kiss you back. His hands gently explored the skin of your waist while you played with his hair. When you finally let go to catch your breath, Riki wore a pout on his lips, clearly not wanting you to stop. In Riki's eyes, it was as if you had stars shining within your eyes, and he couldn’t bring himself to look away.

He was in a love-struck trance, his mind was only on you. But then he felt a light slap on his cheek. Plap! “That’s for being stupid! We could have been dating right now if you weren't so dumb!”Typical of you, he thought. He let out a laugh at your offended look and pulled you in for a second kiss, making you the flustered one.

But what you two didn't know was that Sunoo and Jungwon were watching with binoculars, gasping at the two of you.

“Hah! Pay up, Jungwon” Jungwon rolled his eyes, knowing he had to pay Sunoo twenty bucks because he lost the bet. There was no way that Riki was smart enough to confess, but he had misjudged him.

Jungwon scoffed as he reached for his school bag and reluctantly handed the money to Sunoo, making Sunoo giggle, knowing he was right.
