who is micah (nnk)

OKAY . so basically micah is this guy:

he was removed from wrath of the white witch outside of a small cameo after the manna arc, but in dominion of the dark djinn he had a reasonably large roll

hes the grandson of caldon (william abel in wotww, he runs the black market) and he lives hamelin (boarg in dotdd). his sister, luca, has a terminal illness known as boarg heart, which is caused by the air pollution in hamelin. the only cure for this illness is a flower that is extreamly rare and kept in the palace.

so, not wanting his sister to die, micah sneaks in as a guard. his plan is to steal the medicine and leave.

but! at some point, he saves the emperor (marcassin) from an assassination, and then is promoted to captain of the guard, and hes also marcassin's PERSONAL guard, so hes not allowed to leave the palace at all. he is there for over a year serving at marcassin's side, and in this time he befriends him.

he is marcassin's only confidant. he is all he has. marcassin suffers alone except for MICAH. because micah is there and micah listens and he was once a fake guard but now hes CAPTAIN, and he cant get the medicine to luca.

UNTIL! oliver, esther, swaine and drippy show up. they take the medicine, they give it to luca, they give marcassin a belief heart fragment (FROM LUCA!!!!! because luca had belief that her brother would return and marcassin's brother left him!!!! parallels!!!!!) and so swaine and marcassin reunite and marcassin is better and LUCA is better and micah is allowed to leave.

but he DOESNT. he DOESNT LEAVE. because he loves him and cares for him and wants to stay at his side!!!!! every time you enter marcassin's room HE IS THERE. isnt that crazy. theyre in love. isnt that just so neat.

it's about the mutual trust, the vulnerability, the little things they do for each other for no other reason than it makes the other happy.

and like yeah sure they never interact in canon and micah isn't even present in the final game and is instead only present in the DS version that features half of the story, but that's besides the point

Manna Micha would’ve slayed and I really wish that whole questline was in Wrath of the White Witch. Like anything that makes the world feel larger and more present would’ve been welcome honestly, considering that the few times you interact with normal people in WotWW is that one guy who keeps losing his diary or like. Derwin.

Actually I really like how much character DotDD gives to the world as a whole, Micah is just the most notable example I know of as a person who hasn’t even reached Hamelin in game yet

THIS IS A GOOD POINT wotww has you interacting with almost entirely just high ranking people in the main story (in ni no kuni, not ichi no kuni). in fact let me run through it in my head... the people who aren't high ranking officials/related to high ranking officials in wotww with a small-medium role in the main story are like. tommy stout, tabitha, nina and her grandmother, and pip. that's crazy. is that seriously all of them. that's NUTS. i considered sindbah for this list as well but his ship is owned by the cowlipha. even if you count him that's insane

meanwhile dotdd has flint and tamara, micah and his family, and yuri, on TOP of those guys from wotww and they notably have a much larger role in the story than any of them in wotww. and pip does way more in dotdd too so he's a much bigger part. i do really like that dotdd has more regular citizens because it makes you (and therefore oliver) fall for the world a little more.
