Wishing evereyone a very joyfull happy tihar. Tihar (Nepali: तिहार), also known as Deepawali, is a five-day-long Hindu festival celebrated primarily in Nepal. It is the festival of lights, as diyas are lit inside and outside the houses to illuminate at night. It is known as Swanti among the Newar community. Tihar is the second biggest Nepali festival after Dashain and is usually allocated a three-day-long national holiday in Nepal. The festival is novel in that it shows reverence to not just elders and gods, but also to animals such as crows, dogs, and cows that have long lived in relationship with humans. People make patterns on the floor of living rooms or courtyards using materials such as colored rice, dry flour, colored sand or flower petals outside their house, called Rangoli which is meant to be a sacred welcoming area for the Gods and Goddesses of Hinduism, mainly Goddess Laxmi. People celebrate this festival for worshipping goddess laxmi, getting blessings from elder or Junior sisters, decorating there houses, shops, and respective organisations and celebrate it by sharing sweets. This festival mainly includes worshipping of goddess laxmi, performing mha puja(doing puja for one’s own body), bhai tika(getting blessings from sisters), and nhu daya vintuna(new year for newar community, where a lot people celebrate it by taking a musical march around the valley which includes drums and traditional instruments). #tihar #nepal #deepawali #nhudayavintuna #vintuna #culture #tradition #mhapuja #laxmipuja #kaagpuja #kukurpuja #gaipuja #culturaltourism #visitnepal2020 https://www.instagram.com/p/B4FWJSDluUpCZ1NFsIQMdHvaT3yMjmpzF4y_vE0/?igshid=ma03tuwk5swg
