Pre-Kipper Accident Henry has a tenancy to suffer persistent chest infections that can become particularly nasty. He also has a rather expensive doctor, a very shady looking man who's more interested in squeezing as much money as he can out of his patients than, yknow, actually helping them.

Normally Henry would take a few days off work when his chest gets particularly bad, hence why some of the others don't truly know just how terrible he's doing. But thanks to that no good doctor of his, Henry's pockets are starting to run empty, forcing him to overwork himself in order to afford food/rent, which results in the incident we see happen in All Talk.
