god Im gonna be stupid for doing this but Hi Im the Diluc that responded to the og post!
Something I really wish I had included in my initial responce was that you guys are treating Genshins alternate languages like they are made by third parties and Mihoyo isnt involved in that process at all, which is straight up inaccurate.
Every language in Genshin is accurate and canon! If Mihoyo really wanted to imply some sort of romance between the two, we would have seen similar phrasing across all translations. Not just the chinese.
Also
I didnt invalidate that Kaeya at all??? I literally said that they are 100% valid for having their timeline. My issue is that you all are acting like this is a fully canon thing when it is only present in a single transcription of the game!
I never even said they were wrong, I said “Perhaps the original chinese is different, but every other translation Ive seen/heard about still just says “brothers” not sworn. Just straight actual adopted siblings“
Kin folk are free to have their divergent timelines, thats all well and good and I wont judge anyone for those. My problem here is that three whole versions of this story (all releasing at the same time as the Chinese) are being completely ignored as “proof” that kaeluc is 100% okay and possible. Especially since all of you keep saying things like “usually” and “common”. You’re ruining your own argument by saying its not a 100% garuntee that it means they’re a romantic pairing!
I agree its a grey area when it comes to all this considering all the translations. I’ve heard from several sources that Mihoyo has stated they are 100% adopted brothers, but sadly I have yet to find a link to it, or find anything that denounces the claim.
From certain outlooks the ship seems fine, but you need to acknowledge that that is a small sliver of the massive pile of content Genshin provides, and the other large chunk all states that this is canotical incest. This phrase is only seen in one place in character stories from what I can tell, as even in the webtoon, Kaeya refers to Diluc as his brother. Not to mention that if it truly were a translation error, Mihoyo would have fixed it exactly like they fixed the english translation calling Kaeya “exotic”
I’ve looked into this as much as I can and hopefully this is the last I need to say on this topic*, but in the wide span of fandom this ship isnt okay. I wont stop you from having your kin timelines, or finding content. I cant even if I wanted to. But you cant ignore three of the four versions of Genshin content just to prove yourself correct.
tldr; Im literally just trying to tell you all to think about everything a bit more and open your views to all forms of this game. Ignoring everything that isnt the Chinese version is a disservice to three whole other languages that are all canon as well.
P.S. I sadly cant fit it anywhere nicely but additionally: Me telling you to look at more than one canon translation of a single phrase isnt homophobic buddy, sorry.
im not kaeya or diluc kin and dont really care either way about ppls opinions on the ship itself but would like to clarify that yeah the chinese uses shixiong, which as the og kaeya kinfession states is a word meaning sworn brothers and has historically been used in the context that kaeya actively stated - to conceal gay relationships. the original ask was clearly talking about people misinterpreting a chinese term in a way that can be both homophobic or racist, so to come here and tell someone theyre wrong and that they support incest for being tired of people doing that kind of sucks, tbh

Hey, can you not be homophobic, please? I'm kin with neither Kaeya not Diluc, but I am know Chinese and play Genshin in Chinese. The Chinese terms for "adopted brothers" and "sworn brothers" are two completely different words, and within Chinese media, "sworn brothers" is a term commonly used to get past censorship laws. Guess which term Genshin uses. Additionally, Kaeya's whole backstory was that he was placed there to eventually betray them and bring back Mondstadt. Calling Crepus "father" doesn't inherently mean he meant it, because again, his whole thing was that he was supposed to gain his trust. People can lie.
You are welcome to feel squicked out by certain ships, but don't invalidate others, especially when this person was venting about the exact thing you're accusing them of.
party note: if anyone wants to continue this conversation, please take it to reblogs or private messages. No further ask responses will be posted for this topic. Thank you.
#Im really sorry about all this mpc#I was worried to send the initial ask responce in the first place knowing it'd turn into a huge ship debate#ngl this whole debate is the exact reason Im terrified to try and find my Kaeya#*in fact this is the last Im saying. Im not gonna respond to /shit/ unless absolutely necessary#look at me making this whole new blog to get away from old drama only to drop myself into new shit.#Im once again saying that all kin tls are valid. But they cant be used as a wall to allow immoral content to be justified.#in this case im saying 'widely agreed upon immoral content' just to be clear#Anyway Im finished. Again sincerest apologies mpc
