those trendy super long and elaborate fake nails that basically keep you from being able to do little things like open a can of soda or pick up coins etc

and high heeled shoes that hurt to wear for a long time and make it harder to, for example, run or keep balance on stairs

why does it sometimes feel like culture and fashion conspire to evolve semi-symbolic (essentially voluntary) handicaps

#like yes i know tons of people function extremely well in high heels or with those crazy nails #but i also know the damage longterm heel-wearing can do to the achilles tendon for instance #and that constant nail gluing or curing can mess with nailbeds over time #plus i mean there's just stuff that's harder to do if you can't fully use your fingertips #i know people manage and it's a skill but if you're a casual like even using the restroom is a challenge lol #idk it was just a sudden thought after watching vma footage and mvs - just that there always seems to be something #and probably people have written about the sociological origins like something something class signaling or whatever #but it's just funny looking at what's going on politically and contrasted with the tradfem 'farmwife' thing on the far right #it's so handmaid's tale on surface observation you know #next style trend will be hats/hair/contacts that restrict vision lol
