Hilsen fra Irland
Så er der gået 11 dage siden jeg rejste fra Danmark. Der er simpelthen sket så meget. Jeg er flyttet til Newtownmountkennedy, hvor jeg har lejet et værelse. Jeg startede på Tara Care Center i Bray torsdag d 26.9. Det tager ca 1 time med bus hver vej. Jeg er dog så heldig at blive kørt på arbejde af min udlejer, næsten hver morgen, så det er rigtig dejligt!
Tara Care Center er et demensplejecenter, hvor der bor 46 mennesker. Beboerne bor enten alene eller på en fællesstue. Nogle har eget badeværelse, mens andre har fællesbadeværelser. På fællesstuerne kan jeg godt nogle gange synes det er en smule svært ved etikken og respekten for den enkelte, men der er forhæng man kan trække for, så det går.
Størstedelen af beboerne på plejehjemmet er hårdt ramt af demens, og har derfor brug for meget støtte i løbet af dagen. Plejecenteret er det op i 3 afsnit - Bottem floor, Middel floor og Top floor, og så er der en Floater, som har beboere på alle 3 afsnit. Der arbejder 2 på hvert afsnit, 1 floater, 2 i regøring, 1 der ordner vasketøj, 3 sygeplejersker, så 13 ansatte. Men vi har travlt, da alle kræver støtte til personlig pleje. Sygeplejeskerne har alt ansvar omkring medicin, så dette har jeg slet ikke noget med at gøre. Men det var vi blevet forberedt på hjemmefra.
Jeg er løbende blevet introduceret for det hele. Torsdag var jeg i aktivitetsrummet, som også kaldes for HD. Her kommer de beboere, som har stor faldtendens ned, efter de har spist morgenmad og er blevet hjulpet i tøjet. Der tilbydes forskellige aktiviteter, men da de beboere som er hernede, er så langt i deres demens sygdom, så er det begrænset for hvor mange aktiviteter der udføres. Der er altid enten tændt for fjernsynet eller for noget musik. Der bliver også serveret te, frokost og aftensmad nede i HD, så beboerne er som regel dernede det meste af dagen.
Fredag og mandag blev jeg introduceret til morgenplejen. Vi møder ind kl 8, men kl 7.50 er der overlevering fra nat- til dagvagter. Her gennemgås alle beboerne, om der er sket noget der skal siges videre til næste vagtlag. Al dokumentation skrives i hånden i store mapper. Efter overleveringen pakker man en vogn, med sokker, trusser, deodorant, shampo og en kasse med medicin, og tager den med på den etage man skal arbejde. Oppe på etagen er der handsker, håndsprit, sengetøj og håndklæder - de lyse til øvre hygiejne og farvede til nedre hygiejne. Når beboerne hjælpes op, bliver der ikke brugt meget tid på ergonomi, så der er rigtig mange dårlige arbejdsstillinger, og mange rigtig dårlige løft. Der er lift på alle etager, men den bruges ikke meget. Når beboerne er kommet op, følges de nedenunder i dagligstuen, hvor der er lænestole og sofaer, hvor de kan sidde og nyde en kop kaffe eller te.
Der er rigtig mange ting der er meget anderledes end hjemme i Danmark, og rigtig mange ting man kan undre sig over. Men beboerne der bor der, ser ud til at have det meget godt, trods deres demenssygdom.
Ud over arbejde, så er Irland jo et helt igennem smukt land, med mange utrolig venlige og imødekommende mennesker. Jeg har i sidste weekend været en tur i Dublin om lørdagen. Om søndagen besøgte jeg min gamle aupair familie fra Australien, som er flyttet tilbage til Irland. Det var rigtig rart at se nogle kendte ansigter.

Noget af det første jeg gør når jeg kommer hjem fra arbejde omkring kl 17, er at tænde op i brændeovnen! Der er ikke noget varme på i huset, så det er det dejligste at sidde foran brændeovnen.
I går fik jeg fri kl 13, og tog til Greystones, hvor jeg fik mig lidt frokost en kop kaffe. Skøn lille by ved kysten.
