If he had been more careful, maybe he would have noticed that Newt didn’t scoop the ice cream in proper balls, but instead in petals, that he carefully pieced together to create this, a rose-shaped ice cream, standing proudly on its cone like a real flower on its stem.

“Exactly.” Another groan. “Okay maybe a little.”

I want to tell you a thing, and that thing is important to me. 

You know, I used to hate taking selfies. I guess I just hated pictures of myself in general. I never looked the same way I saw myself, my hair was too messy, my eyes too boring, my mouth too small, my nose too big. I thought people who posted pictures of themselves online were vain, or dumb, or looking for attention. I thought if I posted pictures of myself that I would be those things too, and it would be even worse because I wasn’t even good looking and everyone would know and call me out on it in their minds. 

It's only recently that I've realized the courage behind selfies. The strength it takes to say. 'Hey, this is me, I am beautiful.’ It’s only recently that I started looking at pictures of myself and instead of pointing out all the flaws, thinking, ‘wow, my skin is really clear, my eyebrows are nicely shaped, my cheekbones have an actual curve to them, my smile looks kind.’ It took me so long to start loving myself. To stop tearing myself down and letting self consciousness eat at me. It took too long. And I’m not saying it’s easy. It’s an uphill battle some days, but it’s a battle I’m finally fighting in. It’s a war I’ve decided I won’t lose.

I’m posting this because I honestly feel beautiful today. I’m posting this because I want you to know, whoever you are, that you are beautiful too. You are wholly yourself, and everything you think ruins, or lessens, your appearance actually gives you character. It makes you unique. It is you.  Embrace yourself.

This is what I look like. This is my nose, my eyes, my mouth. They aren’t going away. 

I’m starting a selfie challenge because I want to know what you like about yourself. I’m challenging you to post three pictures, just like I did above, silly or serious, whatever you want, and write about what gives you your charm. Tag ten people, that’s right, ten. Spread the positivity. You are important, and loved, and I hope you know how very very lucky I count myself to know you in some way. Since I'm not as creative as all of your other friends, I can't congratulate as amazingly as they do. But, @newtmasdoesthedo , I wanted to let you know what an incredible person you are. Jack. You are wonderful and inspiring. Even though you come across as strong and fierce most of the time, you also allow yourself to be angry, to be blue, to be down. Which is the most healthy balance one can have and something I truly envy. You deserve to be happy because you fight for the happiness of others.
