Newsomberg Facts: 11th Anniversary Countdown Edition #2:

The Lonely Island and Seth Meyers podcast is now 25 episodes into its glorious run, with every single one to date having been an absolute delight.

One surprising element to it has been Andy's uncharacteristic restraint in not name-dropping Joanna every two minutes!

Those little loved up Easter Eggs are still peppered in, though, if you know what to listen out for.

As well as the obligatory nod to the annual Newsomberg tradition of marathoning the LOTR trilogy, Andy has casually mentioned his fondness for green eyes, and accepted Seth's compliment that he's "the King of the spelling bee" by adding the caveat "in our relationship - yes".

In other words, Joanna - with those gorgeous 'greenies' and unparalleled vocabulary - is never far from his mind!

Newsomberg Facts - 11th Anniversary Countdown Edition #3:

Another fun little revelation to emerge from the Lonely Island pod speaks to the lengths that Andy will go to to support his favorite musician.

Not only did he miss the airing of the first episode of his own animated show, 'Digman' to be in the audience for Joanna's Spring Recital comeback show, but he also braved attending whilst still in recovery from a busted ACL, and a gnarly case of Long Covid... hence him sitting alone - and masked up - in the balcony.

That's one dedicated groupie, right there 😍

Reasons this makes me happy beyond words:

1. Finally getting to hear the end of the Karaoke story (that got cut off while Andy was doing press for 'Popstar')

2. Finding out what he used to sing to Little Lady Newsomberg when she was super dinky

3. Passionately agreeing with his take on 'A Pin-Light Bent'

4. The weird little helicopter digression (AKA Andy and his 'editing notes')

5. The inevitable return of one of his 4 shirts

Newsomberg Fact #20: During their first date, Joanna tried on Andy's glasses and realised he was 'blind blind'.Smiling benevolently at him she asked innocently 'Can you even see passed me without these on'? Staring at his own awkwardly shuffling feet, Andy replied, in a voice no louder than a whisper, 'No. But that's not an eyesight issue. I haven't been able to see you passed you in months'. Joanna decided in that moment that this adorable near-sighted loser would be the Father of her children.

Newsomberg Fact #82: This is the most important interview of all time.

I remember when (Andy Samberg) met you, because he was a huge fan of yours, so it was a big deal. Do you remember when you guys met? Or how you met?

Newsomberg Facts - 10th Anniversary Countdown Edition #10:

On March 22 of this year, Joanna allowed the world to know joy for the first time in 8 years when she performed a stunning selection of new music, as the surprise guest at Fleet Foxes' 'Spring Recital' show.

One of the songs she debuted was 'Marie at the Mill', an intricate and masterful ballad exploring the life of Marie Russak Hotchener who, among other things, designed the breathtaking 'Moorcrest' estate that the Newsombergs now call home.

The most significant detail of Russak Hotchener's life, in terms of Andy and Joanna's enduring love, is the fact that Marie, a firm believer in reincarnation, was survived by her husband Henry who, at the time of her death said:

"Marie's passing was natural and beautiful - like her. We have so long been unified in our three bodies - that there was no wrench, no sense of separation. She and I remain one and go on together. I feel a glorious exaltation that she is going on to higher work and then to get a new body when I hope to woo and win her again - honor beyond belief!"

In 'Marie at the Mill', Joanna translates this sentiment into characteristically captivating lyrics:

"And when my work here is through,

Henry, will you find me anew

a little stranger,

my old friend,

hold me and win me

again and again and again,

all over again,

all over again,

all over again"

The fated quality of the Newsombergs finding their way to one another, and then to a home desgined by a woman whose life shared so many parallels with Joanna's (performer, Nevada City resident, Mills College attendee, etc.), is weaved into the song, picking up on themes of love, death, and rebirth that also permeate so much of her earlier work - especially 'Divers', a record which she has explicitly linked with her feelings about her marriage.

Whilst the thought of Andy being Joanna's 'Henry' - 'wooing and winning' her across multiple lifetimes - may seem a little far-fetched, he put it best himself when he said (during his 'You made it Weird' podcast appearance) "There's things like that, all the time, that I just let myself think because [...] I might as well believe that my life is magical and meant to be wonderful."

I guess it would be tough to be married to Joanna and not feel that way!

Newsomberg Facts - 11th Anniversary Countdown Edition #1:

Unfortunately for Newsomberg appreciators everywhere, Joanna was unable to join Andy in 'Foggy London Town' for the UK premiere of his long-anticipated movie, 'Lee'. But, as ever, she was with him spirit... and in his sartorial choices.

When asked, on the Red Carpet, 'what was the last photo you took on your phone?' Andy's initial response was an adorable shoutout to his little family: 'it must have been one of my kids… that's all I take now!"

After a moment's reflection, however, he corrected himself, admitting that - even in her absence - Joanna had had a hand in choosing his 'dramatic actor' ensemble.

"... I may have sent a few different ‘tie looks’ to my wife to see which one she preferred".

Good choice, Joanna (the tie and the beautiful husband!)

Newsomberg Facts - 10th Anniversary Countdown Edition #1:

Andy once told Busy Phillips, during an interview on her since canceled talkshow, that Joanna enjoys teasing him for the 'whispers on sosch' about his 'glow-up'.

Of course, real ones (especially Joanna) know that he's been consistently gorgeous forever.

That said, the Newsombergs have undergone one significant glow up since 2017. Whilst their daughter's arrival was leaked via pap photos and only confirmed by the couple in response, the arrival of their son was announced by none other than Andy's childhood hero, Weird Al, who - in explaining Andy's absence from the 'semi-autobiographical' masterpiece 'Weird' stated:

Congrats to Andy and Joanna on the world's 'weirdest' birth announcement!

Newsomberg Facts - 10th Anniversary Countdown Edition #5

Andy's never been shy about donning something skimpy for comic effect. In fact, Lorne Michaels has said that it was this dinky pair of shorts (and the accompanying 'Out of Breath Jogger from 1982' sketch) that sold him on hiring Andy for SNL.

As much as it's not hard to see why his audition-look made an impression, this much more recent choice is the most revealing outfit that Andy has ever worn...

Newsomberg Facts - 11th Anniversary Countdown #4:

In shocking news, there may actually be one way in which Joanna and Andy are not completely compatible! At the 48m47s mark in his appearance on 'Doughboys', Andy shared that Joanna side-eyes his preferred choice of Salt & Straw ice cream flavor (Lucky Charms)...

Fortunately, they can at least continue to agree one thing. Namely that co-host Mike Mitchell shouldn't ever be allowed near Little Lady Newsomberg's favorite pony, Rodeo! (20m44s)

True love is about to hit double figures, so the 'Newsomberg Facts' Anniversary Countdown is back to honor the occasion! Starting tomorrow - 10 facts over 10 days to celebrate Andy and Joanna still being couple goals 10 years after they tied the knot 💕

Newsomberg Fact - 10th Anniversary Countdown Edition #8:

Sticking with the theme of 'Lee', Andy has been very open about what a "heavy" and "intense" experience it was for him to shoot scenes that documented Lee Miller and Davy Scherman's horrific discovery of the atrocities at Dachau.

It would have been impossible to recreate something that harrowing without experiencing trauma that lasted long after the shoot had ended.

This is why Joanna encouraged him to find carthasis in creativity, which he eventually did by means of an unusual project - namely, the creation of a Jewish vigilante superhero who annihilates Nazis, using... his skills as a pro bowler.

Like so much of Andy's work, the apparent absurdity of the premise is only half the story, with 'Holy Roller' already being described as "a hilarious and poignant story… told from a place of real passion".

And, for the rest of us, it's also a welcome opportunity to see Neo-Nazi scumbags get hit in the face with bowling balls.
