To The Moon 🌑 New brighton A 5,000 sqm artwork has been unveiled near a beach on Merseyside.

To The Moon in New Brighton is by Switzerland-based Saype, who started his career as a graffiti artist and now specialises in large images which can be seen from above.

He recently completed a work near the Eiffel Tower in Paris.

New name for this project: THE PROM. Having spoken to my lecturers it seemed as though the title 'unmasked' didn't really fit with my work anymore. I want my work to run without a narrative and trying to push a narrative onto it felt wrong. This is 'The Prom' and I want to invite people to think about my work rather than me tell them what to think.

Catalogue Statement for BA Hons Photography Degree Show at Chester University.

‘The Prom’ is nestled alongside the River Mersey and Irish Sea estuary. Walking along the waterside, the diversity of people the prom attracts became clear. From pirates to ex-locals, dog-walkers and fishermen; each person has a personal connection.

I seek to capture a moment– of a singular place and time. I gravitate towards those that stand out from the crowd. I ask these strangers for their portrait, making the image there and then before they can think too much. These honest representations depict a journey and with that I want to encourage stories and memories to emerge.

The work creates a narrative and as such the people pictured provoke contemplation within each of us. Each line, blemish, expression is a culmination of life experiences unique to that person – a significantly beautiful notion. I document an individual working through life’s everyday trials, choosing to spend that moment walking along ‘The Prom’.
