What? Drops having zero self-restraint? It’s more likely than you think.
But yeah, I decided to redo the base since I wasn’t happy with the previous one, and plus I wanted to streamline everyone again since over the months how I draw their faces and hair and stuff changed and like, I don’t have to work on lore for these anymore so hey! free chance. For now only the Winx, Winx-adjacent (Dia and Roxy) and the guys will get new bases, so be on the lookout for those later. Some significant changes would be that Musa’s now more obviously buff, as well as an eye color adjustment to both her and Aisha.
Not many changes to the outfits themselves outside of streamlining and adjusting details, and stuff like that. You also get two bonuses - Aisha’s transformations in her mermaid form (a seldom-seen event since actually transforming into a mermaid drains her quite a bit), and Shadow Bloom’s look.
Lorewise it’s still the same - Charmix is unlocked automatically at 13/14, Glamourix is earnt after facing hardship or overcoming a personal emotional conflict, Enchantix after perfoming a selfless act of sacrifice for other’s lives.
Not all forms will be fully updated (the 5 White Circle forms for example will not get adapted to the base since they’re not that relevant to begin with), but I do want to use this base for AT LEAST the remainder of the year. Let’s just hope I finish the AU up until S8 so I DON’T feel the need to redraw everything again. Which is harder than it sounds lmao.

Merfolk and Merpeople
Most of the lore in the upcoming series will be edited compilations of dozens of posts from the last two years. While there are some minor new details sprinkled throughout, I’ve attempted to post significant new information in a “Watch AU Fun Fact” post so you don’t have to read all of these HUGE posts to find them.
Other Posts in this Series:
Introduction to Beings with Souls and their Changeling Variants • Humans and (Human) Changelings • Merfolk and Merpeople • Dwarves and Stone Walkers • Giants and Tree-Giants (Triants) • Unicorns • Nomes (Unicorn Changelings) • Dragons • Kings’ Eyes (Dragon Changelings) •
In this Post:
A Summary of Merfolk and Merpeople and how much difference lies between the changelings and non-changelings of this race
The Physical Traits of Merfolk and Merpeople
The Social Traits of Merfolk and Merpeople
The Magical Traits of Merfolk and Merpeople
Summary
Merfolk are a race of soul-bearing beings native to the depths of Tirónar's Eastern Sea.
Merfolk changelings are called Merpeople.
The singular term for Merfolk is “Mer”, while the singular term for a Merfolk changeling is Merperson. Gendered terms such as Merman or Mermaid are considered antiquated and inaccurate, but still occasionally used.
As a general rule, all statements referring to “Merfolk” also apply to their changeling counterparts unless specifically stated otherwise. After all, they are the same type of being; just in two different forms, and their cultures generally overlap.
Physical Traits
Aesthetically, Merfolk look more fish-like than humanoid. In fact, there is very little about their appearance that is human at all. Instead, they resemble small, eldritch beings of tentacles, scales, and assorted other fishy parts.
By contrast, Merpeople look slightly more similar to the stereotypical “mermaid” than their non-changeling counterparts, with a humanoid upper body and a fish-like tail. Even so, they are still distinctly inhuman and resemble other Merfolk far more than any humans, akin to how merfolk are depicted in the Harry Potter films.
Merfolk do not suffocate above water, but have little to no mobility on land, and thus give coastal waters a large berth to avoid being dangerously beached.
Social Traits
Merfolk are saltwater creatures; anything similar seen in freshwater is more likely a member of the Fae. This makes them hard to meet unless you live somewhere close to a lot of deep saltwater, like an island. However, they are extremely curious and social. They often learn human languages and befriend sailors.
Magical Traits
Like all beings with souls, Merfolk have the ability to use magic. Similar to humans, Merfolk have to unlock their magic and use a magical focus to concentrate their magical abilities into a spell. However, Merfolk have a far higher rate of magical ability compared to beings that live above ground, such as humans or dwarves. This is because magical energy disperses into its unfocused, chaotic form far slower in water than it does in air, likely due to the former’s higher density. As a result, Merfolk need a far less specific Magical Focus than beings such as humans, making the mastery of magic far easier as a whole. However, this distinction only applies in their natural underwater habitat. If a Mer uses their magic in the open air above the surface, their magic will be much weaker, even downright uncontrolled, because their focuses aren’t strong enough to prevent the magic from dispersing.
Additionally, some wonder if the higher density of water would limit the range of magical effects, but such a difficulty has never been observed or expressed among merfolk. Either that theory is false, or the ease of focusing that magic more than makes up for any additional effort needed in other areas.
