Demetrius is the type of kid that needs a Naruto style shonen rival.

Think about it:

Demetrius is this unflappable perfect scholar. One who no other student can get close to. He is admired almost as much as he is silently envied and he casts this shadow over his grade that leaves everyone else feeling hopeless, constantly struggling for second best.

In walks a person who declares himself (or herself) Demetrius' rival. Academically speaking they are an idiot, barely worth noticing. But they refuse to give up, not until Demetrius acknowledges them.

But at the same time, they are surrounded by friends, they are more naturally charismatic, maybe they are more athletic or skilled in some other field...

Either way they are good at something that Demetrius isn't. And he shouldn't care... he doesn't care.

But he does.
