They send to this design choice a “little considerable-technical feature”. In the design, the B-pillar is inadequate. Presenting your car a content label is heading to get considerably more intense. Creepily, VW states that as soon as your ID wakes up, it is going to “look at the motorist utilising its eyes”. Preferably, that is to illuminate the ground as we walk in the track of it, and do not because it possessed a fantastic snooze during the night.

Heart-Wrenching VW Ad Says Goodbye to the Beetle One Final Time
Volkswagen officially stopped producing the Beetle late in July 2019, which means 2020 is the first new year in seven decades that will ring in without new Bugs infesting dealerships. Think about that. To ensure you do, VW decided to give the Bug one last goodbye with a heart-wrenching ad set to the Beatles song “Let it Be.” Have some tissues handy.
In the beautifully animated spot, a lifelong owner of an original Beetle flashes back to his life’s milestones. The Bug is witness or participant in every turning point, from learning to drive to driving his partner to the hospital to give birth to their child. Now an old man, the owner steps out of his Bug near a sign that reads “The Last Mile” and a field of windmills when, suddenly, the car burbles to life and putters off into the distance. The viewer is then taken along for a ride as the Beetle confronts the history it both shaped and lived through, which takes the form of a crowd of adoring fans holding peace signs and placards reading “think small” and “not a lemon,” some of the Bug’s successful early advertising slogans.
When this imaginary tour concludes, the Beetle drives past its owner one last time before becoming a flying insect and taking off into the night sky. The screen fades to dark, before the face of Volkswagen’s new I.D. electric car appears above the text: “Where one road ends, another begins.”
Just watch the clip below, and be sure to keep an eye out for the many cameos of Beetle-related historical figures, including Andy Warhol to Kevin Bacon.

Volkswagen Is Ending Production of the Beetle in 2019
Volkswagen these days proclaimed that production of the present, third-generation Beetle can finish in Gregorian calendar month 2019, with a special Final Edition trim, shown higher than, serving because of the model's send-off.
Introduced in 2011, the present Beetle is simply the third generation of the model, supported the front-wheel-drive platform of the MkVI Golf. It followed the alleged New Beetle, which was in production from 1997 to 2011.
In a statement, the VW cluster of America head Hinrich Woebcken mirrored on the tip of this icon, whereas providing some hope for the Beetle's potential come as an electrical automotive.
The loss of the Beetle when 3 generations, over nearly seven decades, can evoke a bunch of emotions from the Beetle’s several devoted fans. As we tend to move to be a full-line, family-focused manufacturing business within the U.S.A. and build our electrification strategy with the MEB platform, there aren't any immediate plans to switch it. however, as we've seen with the I.D. Buzz—which is that the fashionable and sensible interpretation of the legendary Bus—I would conjointly say, "Never say ne'er."
The I.D. Buzz that Woebcken refers to is VW's future retro-inspired auto, set to be designed on the brand's new electric-car platform. Last year, VW boss Herbert Diess the same he would take into account creating brand new Beetle exploitation this platform. VW's 1st electric, the I.D. hatchback, ought to arrive in 2020, and also the manufacturing business is positioning it as a reasonable, fashionable town car—a Beetle for the twenty-first century.

Canada's getting VW's Mk. 8 Golf and ID.4 — even if the U.S. might not Canada is getting the new base model Volkswagen Mk. 8 Golf after all, as well as VWs new ID.4 electric car but not for a while.During the new generation’s debut last month, it seemed uncertain whether dealerships in the U.S. and Canada would see any trims of the Golf besides the high-performance GTI and R versions. Now, VW Canada has confirmed other, lower-spec trims of the Mk. 8 Golf will come to our shores, along with the high performance GTI and Golf R, though whether they hit the U.S., too, is still up in the air. The Mk. 8 Golf as well as the GTI and Golf R variants will start to arrive some time in 2021 as 2022 models, Thomas Tetzlaff, Volkswagen Canadas public relations manager, recently told The Car Guide. That means well see a small gap between the sale of the last Mk. 7 and the first Mk. 8 for some Golf variants, such as the Golf R, SportWagen and Alltrack, none of which will return for the 2020 model year.In other news, the new fully-electric ID.4 will replace the eGolf as the brands small-EV option, and will lead the way in introducing the ID lineup to Canadian showrooms. The ID.4 is a four-door crossover, with a low roofline and a small footprint. The first ID model in Canada will be the production version of the I.D. Crozz concept. This one is planned for early 2021, said Tetzlaff.Next year, Europeans will get the even-smaller ID.3, which was unveiled at the Frankfurt motor show. Whether that vehicle will make it to Canada remains to be

It’s official: The VW Bus is back, and it’s electric
It’s official: The VW Bus is back, and it’s electric
The I.D. Buzz concept will go into production, sparking a new generation of Microbus fans
Driven by popular demand, Volkswagen announced it is planning on selling a production version of the award-winning I.D. Buzz concept electric vehicle in 2022 for the United States, Europe and China.
“For me, the I.D. Buzz concept is the most beautiful and most exciting electric car in the world,” said Dr. Herbert Diess, Chairman of the Board of Management for the Volkswagen brand, in Pebble Beach, Calif.
“Our goal is clear: we want to make the fully electric, fully connected car a bestseller around the world. The iconic car of the electric age must be a Volkswagen.”
The I.D. Buzz is the second EV concept that VW has revealed for production, along with the original I.D. concept slated to enter production around 2019 as a 2020 model, while the I.D. Crozz concept has shown how an electric VW SUV could look. All three use VW’s Modular Electric Drive kit (or MEB, for its German acronym), a group of components and chassis parts engineered to maximize the potential of electric drive and future technology.
“These cars will offer everything – and even more – than you have seen from other electric carmakers,” says Diess. “And they will be much more affordable.”
Designed to recall the original Type 2 Microbus without mimicking it, the I.D. Buzz concept has won several awards in the months since it was revealed at the Detroit Auto Show. The front V in the bodywork calls back to the two-tone predecessor on the original Bus, but in the I.D. Buzz carries a light strip that surrounds the vehicle and gives it a unique visual signature. The LED headlights have hexagonal segments that act as “eyes” to communicate the vehicle’s status. With near-zero body overhangs and 22-inch wheels, the I.D. Buzz manages to look modern and timeless, one of the hallmarks of Volkswagen brand design.
The first VW Bus sold in the United States in 1950 had all of 30 hp. The I.D. Buzz concept sports 369 hp from electric motors on each axle that also provide all wheel drive and the 111 kWh battery pack in the floor of the MEB chassis provide nearly 300 miles of estimated range. Using a VW fast-charge system, it can recharge about 80 percent of its energy capacity in 30 minutes at 150 kW.

Volkswagen Updates I.D. Crozz Concept for Frankfurt
After debuting the I.D. Crozz in April, Volkswagen is bringing a new version of the concept to the Frankfurt auto show this month. The I.D. Crozz II previews an electric crossover that will hit the market in 2020. Oddly, the new concept looks extremely similar to the original one. The biggest changes include LED lights that look more realistic for production, updated wheels, and more noticeable body cladding that adds athletic appeal. In contrast to the Hibiscus Red Metallic paint job, the rear receives a black finish much like the old model. The roof appears to have solar panels. Inside the cabin, Volkswagen kept the general layout of the original concept. Removing the B-pillar frees up space, allowing easy entry and exit via doors that swing and slide open. There is apparently enough room to fit a bicycle despite the low roofline. Drivers and passengers can open and close the doors using voice commands. The production version will eventually feature a fully autonomous driving mode that passengers can be activated via voice instruction. Like the previous concept, the new model delivers 302 hp and tops out at 112 mph. An all-wheel-drive system comprises an electric motor at the front axle and another at the rear, in addition to a centrally located battery. VW says this layout helps with weight distribution and allows the I.D. Crozz II to achieve similar handling characteristics to the Golf GTI. The model features electronic damping, a multi-link rear suspension, and MacPherson struts. Range is estimated to hit about 310 miles. In addition to the crossover, Volkswagen will introduce two other electric vehicles as part of its new I.D. family. A hatch will arrive in 2020, and a revived Microbus is coming in 2022. All three vehicles will sit on VW’s all-electric MEB architecture and will run on an operating system that allows for quick software updates. The I.D. Crozz will debut alongside the Polo GTI and Golf Sportsvan at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Source: Volkswagen The post Volkswagen Updates I.D. Crozz Concept for Frankfurt appeared first on Motor Trend.

The coolest cars from the 2019 New York Auto Show
New Post has been published on https://nexcraft.co/the-coolest-cars-from-the-2019-new-york-auto-show/
The coolest cars from the 2019 New York Auto Show
Automakers are less likely to wait to announce dazzling new products at glitzy, expensive auto shows these days—meaning that events like the New York International Auto Show are shrinking in significance.
But still, that hasn’t stopped carmakers from bringing us exciting new concept cars, important new production models, and cool bits of technology that stand out from otherwise unremarkable new models this year.
Our favorites from the New York auto show, currently ongoing at the Javits Center in Manhattan, include these noteworthy new vehicles.
Kia HabaNiro concept
Kia’s spicy concept car’s name is a combination of the habanero pepper and the company’s Niro EV (thus, the “HabaNiro”), and designers aimed to live up to expectations with a bright red cabin finish. (Design trends are leaning toward more color inside cars.) Further, it eschewed the lavish application of leather, using boucle fabric instead to cultivate a cushy impression.
More importantly, that cabin is stuffed with technology— like a full windshield-width Head-Up Display that can be used to show movies during long drives when the car’s autonomous driving system is engaged.
Kia describes the HabaNiro as an all-electric, all-wheel drive vehicle with a 300-mile driving range.
Volkswagen I.D. Buggy
VW’s modern electrified take on the classic Meyers Manx dune buggy, which made its global debut in Geneva, arrived in U.S for the New York show. It’s called the I.D. Buggy.
Fittingly, VW recruited Bruce Meyers, the Manx’s creator, to attend the show and oversee the Fern Green descendant of his classic beach machine. The I.D. Buggy is built on the same modular electric car platform that will power VW’s upcoming generation of EVs, just as the Beetle’s platform rolled beneath the classic VW bus, pickup truck, Thing off-roader, Squareback, and other models.
VW says the I.D. Buggy is good for a top speed of 99 mph and accelerates to 62 mph in 7.2 seconds, making it dramatically faster than the original version, in addition to being quieter and cleaner.
Driving range is 155 miles, which seems kind of far for just a drive on the beach, so we suspect that the 62 kilowatt-hour battery pack will be more than sufficient.
Genesis Mint concept
The diminutive Genesis two-seat city car concept’s green hue wasn’t exactly mint green, but the tiny car looks small enough to be a breath freshener.
Also fresh is the thinking behind its bench seat, though alas, there’s no provision for three-abreast seating as there are only seatbelts for the two outboard positions.
Another throwback design aspect is the use of six discrete small displays that each shows a single parameter in the fashion of traditional mechanical gauges. In a steampunk touch, they are trimmed in copper bezels.
In place of a dash-mounted instrument display ahead of the driver, the Mint embeds its panel into the center of its oblong steering wheel in the manner of race cars.
Genesis designers say the Mint will employ a battery pack with capacity for a 200-mile driving range and it will support 350-kilowatt direct current fast charging for quick refueling.
2020 Lincoln Corsair
Lincoln completed the remake of its product line with its return to the use of English words as names, instead of the alpha-numerics favored by European prestige brands. The Corsair seeks to bring traditional American comfort to the compact crossover segment, with no concessions to either off-road pretensions or would-be road racing capabilities for circulating the Nurburgring.
Instead, the Corsair includes conveniences like the ability to use a smartphone as a key, unlocking the car and starting the engine to drive. It further features Ford’s key panel for entry in case the phone battery is dead and an on-screen code for starting the car.
One of the scene-setting aids for keeping Corsair occupants relaxed is the replacement of conventional alert beeps, buzzers and chimes with an array of symphonic chimes that are brief musical vignettes created and recorded by the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.
2020 Hyundai Sonata
Speaking of musical themes, Hyundai’s Sonata sedan debuted at New York with an array of innovations. Like the Corsair, the Sonata offers the ability for customers to use their phone as the car’s key, and it does so at the lower price of a mainstream brand.
The Sonata’s signature feature is the chrome strips that run from the side mirrors to the corners of the car’s headlights. The end of the strips, near the headlights, is laser-cut with tiny holes, and LED daytime running lights behind the chrome strips cause the ends to light up when the car is running. They appear as conventional chrome trim the rest of the time.
In an illustration of the law of diminishing returns, as applied to shrinking the displacement of automotive engines in pursuit of fuel efficiency, the Sonata’s standard 180-horsepower 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine is expected to score 31 mpg on the EPA’s combined driving cycle, while the optional 191-horsepower 2.5-liter four cylinder engine is projected to score 33 mpg in combined driving.

I must have this car, and I must have it NOW. Supposedly, 2021. Nope, NOW!
youtube
The full story, not an excerpt, because I need this NOW:
Volkswagen is bringing back its hippie-approved minivan but with a 21st century upgrade—the new I.D. Buzz is all-electric.
The concept car was first revealed at the Detroit Auto Show in January and now the German automaker is officially putting its reinvigorated Microbus into production.
"Emotional cars are very important for the brand," VW boss Herbert Diess told Auto Express. "We are selling loads of Beetles still, particularly in U.S. markets. But we will also have the Microbus that we showed, which we have recently decided we will build."
Volkswagen has made a push towards earth-friendlier electric vehicles ever since its "Dieselgate" scandal. In October, following its historic emissions settlement, the company agreed to pay $4.7 billion for environmental programs and promotion of zero-emissions vehicles.
Digital Trends reports that the I.D. Buzz is powered by a pair of electric motors that provide 369 horsepower to all four wheels. Its 111kWh battery pack boasts up to 270 miles of range and charges up to 80 percent of its capacity in just half an hour.
And according to Carbuzz, when in autonomous mode, the steering wheel retracts and merges into the instrument panel, allowing the car to take full control of the driving.
"VW is also launching its own ride-sharing company, MOIA, in 2020 and the production-spec ID Buzz will undoubtedly play a key role," Carbuzz notes.
While its shell looks a lot like its iconic predecessor, the new version will be built off of the company's platform for electric vehicles, the Modular Electric Drive Kit (MEB).
"With the MEB platform this is the chance now to get the proportions back," VW design boss Oliver Stefani explained to Auto Express, noting that with an electric-car setup the engine does not need to be in the front. The battery pack being underneath the floorpan also allows for a larger passenger cabin compared to conventional cars.
"You can also get much more interior space, almost one class higher," Stefani added.
Digital Trends estimates that the car could hit the market as early as 2021.
"The I.D. BUZZ is not a retro design on 22-inch wheels; rather, we have taken the logical next step forward in development using what is in all likelihood the most successful design of its kind in the world," Volkswagen head of design Klaus Bischoff said before the concept was revealed in Detroit this year. "The entire design is extremely clean with its homogeneous surfaces and monolithic silhouette. The future and origins of Volkswagen design DNA combine here to create a new icon."

Mercedes-Benz debuts EQV electric van at the Geneva auto show
Mercedes-Benz brought the Concept EQV to the 2019 Geneva International Motor Show. It will go into production in 2020. [credit: Mercedes-Benz ]
The Geneva International Motor Show just got underway in Europe. If, like me, you're sitting at home, that means waking up to a flood of new car reveals. Audi showed off a smaller e-tron sedan and some plug-in hybrids; I'm still waiting to find out which—if any—are coming to the US. There were a bunch of hand-built hypercars, some from companies you've heard of, and some you haven't. Volkswagen had the new I.D. Buggy we showed you yesterday. And then there was the Mercedes-Benz Concept EQV.
It's the latest all-electric EQ concept from the automaker. Some of these, like the Smart Vision EQ or the Vision EQ Silver Arrow will remain one-offs, corporate flights of fancy. But others are headed to production. Later this year the EQC battery electric vehicle goes into production, with US sales starting in 2020. Some time around then, the EQV electric van will also go into volume production.
"Mercedes-Benz Vans is consistently advancing the electrification of its product portfolio. With the Concept EQV, we are now taking the next step. The concept offers all of the brand-typical attributes from this segment that Mercedes-Benz customers have come to know, appreciate and accept. From a daily driver for the family, a leisure-time adventurer or a shuttle vehicle with lounge ambience, the combination of these characteristics with a battery-electric drive mean the Concept EQV is a concept car with a future. We are particularly excited that we will soon be able to offer a series-production model on the basis of this concept," explains Wilfried Porth, Member of the Daimler AG Board of Management for Human Resources and Director of Labor Relations, Mercedes-Benz Vans.

Volkswagen says ID 3 to be fastest-charging car in its class A camoflaged version of the VW I.D. HatchbackElektrowoz Volkswagen is getting the buying public charged up about its upcoming ID 3 electric hatchback, with a new announcement the car can juice itself faster than every other mainstream electric on sale today. Hey, yesterday was Father’s Day. I’m allowed to make dad jokes. According to the company, the ID 3 charging capacity taps out at 125 kW, eclipsing all other electron-fuelled machines save for the snazzy Audi E-tron and Tesla Model X. That’s where the “mainstream” detail in VW’s proclamation comes into play. Customers in about thirty European countries have been laying down deposits to pre-book an ID 3 for an expected April 2020 delivery. When in full production, the hatchback will be available with three battery sizes, which will essentially represent small, medium and large—just like your favourite cup of coffee. The mid-level 58-kWh version will be offered first, coughing up a claimed range of 417 kilometres. Two other trims, driven by 45-kWh and 77-kWh batteries, should be good for 328 km and 547 km, respectively. Sized about the dimensions of a two-door Golf, the ID 3 is the first production car to utilize VW’s new MEB architecture, an electric car platform scheduled to underpin a myriad of models. The brand aims to sell 150,000 electric cars, including 100,000 ID models, by calendar year 2020. By 2025, Volkswagen aims to sell one million EVs. Plans call for 1,500 ID family vehicles to be rolling off

VW’s futuristic all-electric dune buggy embraces its 1960s’ roots
Volkswagen has added another member to its ever-expanding I.D. line of concept electric vehicles that’s meant to showcase the automaker’s electric future. This time it’s the I.D. Buggy, an all-electric dune buggy with some 1960s California subculture flair.
The I.D. Buggy, which made its global debut Monday at the 89th Geneva International Motor Show, is meant to show the versatility of the automaker’s modular electric drive toolkit chassis, or MEB. The MEB, which was introduced in 2016, is a flexible modular system — really a matrix of common parts — for producing electric vehicles that VW says make it more efficient and cost-effective.
For instance, the two-seater buggy can be converted to a 2+2-seater and an additional electric motor can be added to the front axle in order to make four-wheel drive possible, the company said. The modular design allows for the composite upper body to be detached from the MEB chassis, which VW argues will open up a “world of possibilities for third-party manufacturers, as the original Meyers Manx kit did for the first buggies.” The Meyers Manx kit was the creation of California engineer, boat builder and surfer Bruce Meyers who modified the original Volkswagen Beetle to make it suitable for desert racing.
The I.D. Buggy is equipped with a a 62kWh lithium-ion battery and a 201-horsepower electric motor in the rear to give it an expected range of 155 miles on the WLTP cycle, the company said. There are no doors or a roof in the two-seater, which VW says gives drivers the “purest experience of classic beach cruising.”
The vehicle has three-dimensional oval LED headlights and taillights and an LED VW logo. The automaker also touts the buggy’s body that seems to “float above the chassis,” an effect achieved by how its painted.
Volkswagen has been showing off its I.D. line of concept electric vehicles for several years now. And some of them are even going into production. There is the electric all-wheel drive microbus called I.D. Buzz, a futuristic take on the family camper van that VW introduced as a concept in 2017, the I.D. Vizzion self-driving sedan concept, and of course, the I.D. Crozz SUV concept that was first shown at the North American International Auto Show last year.
The I.D. Crozz and I.D. Buzz are going into production. It’s not clear if the I.D. Buggy will ever be anything more than concept.
Earlier this year, VW announced plans to spend $800 million to expand a U.S. factory in Chattanooga, Tenn., that will produce the automaker’s next generation of electric vehicles.
VW’s Chattanooga expansion is just a piece of the automaker’s broader plan to move away from diesel in the wake of the emissions cheating scandal that erupted in 2015. The company is also building a European facility in Zwickau, Germany, set to begin EV production in 2019 and adding EV-production at facilities in Anting and Foshan, in China, in 2020, and in the German cities of Emden and Hanover by 2022.
The Tennessee factory (along with the other new facilities) will produce EVs using Volkswagen’s MEB chassis. Volkswagen of America says it will offer the first EV based on the MEB platform to customers in 2020. Electric vehicle production at the Tennessee site will begin in 2022.

Report: Nissan to Debut Electric Crossover in Tokyo
Nissan is looking to expand its EV lineup beyond the second-generation Leaf that debuted this week. Apparently, the automaker will offer a range of electric vehicles based on the Leaf’s new platform, and one of them will be a crossover. The crossover EV will debut at the Tokyo Motor Show this October, reports Autocar. Nissan design boss Alfonso Albaisa said the vehicle will be “a little bigger” than the Qashqai, known as the Rogue Sport here in the U.S. It will go on sale globally in 2019. An electric sedan is also likely to debut at some point. Members of the new EV family are expected to use the same 40-kilowatt-hour batteries and autonomous driving technologies as the Leaf. By 2020, Nissan’s tech will be able to accommodate autonomous driving on urban roads and intersections instead of just highways. Right now, the Leaf’s ProPilot feature can handle steering, acceleration, and braking in single-lane highway driving situations. It’s unclear what Nissan will call the new EVs, but they won’t share the “Leaf” name in the same way that Volkswagen’s line of electric vehicles will wear the “I.D.” badge. When it arrives in the next few years, Nissan’s electric crossover will compete with a production version of the VW I.D. Crozz. This crossover could travel 311 miles on a single charge and will reportedly head to the U.S. market in 2020. Slashdot: VW Investing $800 Million In Tennessee Factory To Make Next-Gen Electric Vehicles
VW Investing $800 Million In Tennessee Factory To Make Next-Gen Electric Vehicles Published on January 14, 2019 at 08:30PM Volkswagen will spend $800 million to expand a U.S. factory that will produce the automaker's next generation of electric vehicles. "The factory in Chattanooga, Tenn. will be the company's North American base for manufacturing electric vehicles," reports TechCrunch. "The expansion is expected to create 1,000 jobs at the plant." From the report: VW's Chattanooga expansion is just a piece of the automaker's broader plan to move away from diesel in the wake of the emissions cheating scandal that erupted in 2015. Globally, VW Group plans to commit almost $50 billion through 2023 toward the development and production of electric vehicles and digital services. The Volkswagen brand (so not including its Audi or Porsche brands) alone has forecasted selling 150,000 EVs by 2020 worldwide, increasing that number to 1 million by 2025. The Tennessee factory (along with the other new facilities) will produce EVs using Volkswagen's modular electric toolkit chassis, or MEB, introduced by the company in 2016. The MEB is a flexible modular system -- really a matrix of common parts -- for producing electric vehicles that VW says make it more efficient and cost-effective. Electric vehicle production at the Tennessee site will begin in 2022. However, Volkswagen of America says it will offer the first EV based on the MEB platform to customers in 2020.This EV will be a series-production version of the I.D. CROZZ SUV concept that was first shown at the North American International Auto Show last year. This vehicle will have the interior space of a midsize SUV in the footprint of a compact SUV. Volkswagen of America will also offer a multi-purpose EV based off the I.D. BUZZ concept. This EV will be a series-production version of the I.D.
