Can you make a gif of Carrie looking out of Worley’s quarters? She has a unique expression - pensive & pissed.
Pensive and pissed are two of Carrie’s middle names! (the other is Anne)

I’ve started at the beginning listening to your podcasts because it’s the newest fuel for my obsession. My question is what is it you felt Brody was holding Homeland back from being/doing?
I assume I said this on an early podcast episode? Going back almost six years is hard, but I’ll try…
I think the writers felt constrained by Brody’s presence in the same way that they ended up feeling constrained by Quinn’s presence. In both cases, killing off those characters fueled somewhat of a creative resurgence.
The big difference with Brody, of course, is that the show was never meant to be about Carrie and Brody. He was supposed to die in the first season. Then he was supposed to die in the second season.
Homeland was conceived (and pitched, IIRC) as a story about Carrie, with her relationship with Saul as the backbone. However, the Carrie/Brody relationship and the Claire/Damian chemistry were both so electrifying that the writers chose to ride that wave past the first season. I’m not sorry about that, because it was thrilling and made for tremendous television. It was a bright flame but one that burned extremely quickly.
The stories the show told in later seasons were deep and rich and sometimes maddening (see: Franny Mathison), and almost all of them couldn’t have happened with Brody in the picture. Perhaps most importantly, Carrie allowing Brody to die was a defining moment in her characterization.
Carrie Mathison is a woman who is absolutely terrified of being alone, yet she sent the actual love of her life off to die in service of… her country and a withholding father figure whose love and approval she craves. With each mission he convinces her to complete (and that she convinces herself to complete), she gets closer and closer to the life she swore to him she didn’t want. But she can’t stop. This show is about that person, and I don’t think it could have been about that person in those ways if Brody had lived. And it’s why, years from now, I’ll probably still be thinking about it.

Why must I constantly read and now hear chanted “I hate this show “? You know what I hate Billions so - I don’t watch it and I especially don’t annoy fans online with my negative opinion! Stop already
I... don’t know how to answer this? I’m pretty sure this is directed at me, because Sara has informed me that I said “I hate this show” multiple times in the podcast, but also... if I really hated the show, I wouldn’t be watching it.
No sane or reasonable person would devote as much time and energy and thought to something they hate. I mean, I guess ~hate watching~ is a thing, but I think that’s dumb.
If you’re getting negativity and genuine dislike of the show from me, then... I dunno. I don’t think there’s anything in my tone, written OR spoken, that conveys anything more than slight exasperation with how fucking crazy bananas this whole show is.
Sorry if my comments are bugging you, but you get what you pay for. This whole goddamn thing is a labor of love.

Ashley, I don’t understand your comment to FFH # I would suggest don’t START.... really? Do you mean that?
I was mostly being facetious. I’ve met some of my best friends in the entire world because of this show. And I do mean the entire world — I’ve spent time with Homeland friends all over Europe. This time next week, I will be in London with Sara!
But there is a REASON we have an entire series on this website dedicated to Something That Won’t Ruin Your Life.

How do we know Carrie can’t use a computer?
Empirical evidence.
Sara kindly has documented Carrie’s technological ineptitude in this gifset, which she’ll probably have to update now.

The only site on Tumblr I’ve ever visited consistently is HYH. When I open the app I always get FMFR or something related to Good Omens never HYH. Why is that do you suppose?
I don’t think Tumblr’s algorithms are rooted in reality.

Has Carrie always had freckles? Just a few but I don’t recall noticing them before.
Yes. You can see them here a bit in “The Weekend”:

Did you wonder if Carrie really cried while making love with Aayan? It never crossed my mind. It seems in keeping with her emotional state. However hidden that may be.
I always assumed that she was actually crying. And she certainly had reason to.

Why are you fucked?
I mean, all footage of this season points to this conclusion. It’s gonna destroy me. Hope y’all are ready.

If you’re not planning to watch S8 & Sara has moved to England is this the end of HYH?
It’s just England, y’all. I’m still here. Granted, there were a few weeks there where I was preparing for an across-the-ocean move and all that entailed but I’m all settled now, so we can go back to talking about ….. nothing. Oh, about how season 8 doesn’t exist!

Also! This blog benefits greatly from wonderful contributors who are not me or Ashley – Julie, Gail, Frangi, and Angela. I appreciate them so much and all the different viewpoints they offer and work they do.

Is whatmakesyoulove saying Sara was happy when Brody died?
I mean... I wasn’t jumping up and down gleeful, but yes I was happy because I thought it was the narratively correct thing to do.

Are you ladies fed up with Homeland?
Not everybody, just me, and I’m not so much “fed up” as I am “totally exhausted.”
Why do you ask?

This set chokes me up. What are sources for these cuts? I didn’t know there was an alternate take on the Quinn & Carr scene
They were posted on Twitter in this tweet:
https://twitter.com/SHO_Homeland/status/504671246970126338?s=20
As you can see the media is no longer available. I think they must be on the S3 DVDs but I donated all my Homeland DVDs to charity when I moved so I have no actual way of confirming that theory and my memory is not serving me in this particular moment.
(The video literally only shows like 4 seconds of the alternate take. It’s not like the alt kiss where we got a full scene.)

What do you mean: Carrie’s feelings toward Brody and her relationship with him does not operate on a plane of objective reality and almost never has.
Carrie and Brody’s relationship didn’t live in reality, it lived in “Carrie and Brody” land, which is a place where Brody was a good man and they could live happily ever after together.

What’s the Saul hatred about?
If he wasn’t such an odious person, I wouldn’t hate him so much.
