#never ylva. not even ingellvar

yknow despite all the cute downtime interactions and despite her trying So So Hard to pay attention to and bond with everyone, there's something oddly lonely about Ylva.. Harding's got magic powers now that make her feel alienated even though they got on well. Bellara goes to Emmrich to talk about spirit related things now even though Ylva is also a Watcher. Neve says it's fine but it's obviously not, and Ylva has let her down not once but twice now. They started a book club without her. She even had that whole talk with Harding about how people in the Inquisition would have code names, but when they hung out they were just regular people who called each other their first names. And, well. She is just Rook, all the time.
#here again with late night block of text o7#the last one is directed at how she's referred to in writing#bc i realised it's always rook there too#never ylva. not even ingellvar#what made it hit me i think was the one list of food and ingredients for different party members#and there was sth for rook there too; which is really sweet! but also it stood out that it said 'rook'#and yeah. dunno#there's already a loneliness to her before all this too tho#dav spoilers#laya plays dav#oc: ylva ingellvar

Okay so. For Ylva, once the Surprise and Confusion about Harding's new powers settles it makes way for Envy for sure. She's still fairly vague as A Character, but growing up in a place full of magic and of mages i imagine magic is something she's always wished she had, too.
#and it's not even just magic it's TITAN magic (probably)#which. a proper connection to her ancestry or dwarven culture/hisory is another thing she never had#and now harding gets to have BOTH#she has stone sense and magic now and all that by pure chance#if ylva had touched that dagger first SHE couldve had that#laya plays dav#dav spoilers#oc: ylva ingellvar

half my original reasoning for choosing Mourn Watch was my chance for Name Alliteration lol, but i'm so happy i went with it. Something fun about a Dwarf who grew up close to the Stone yet far from it. And who grew up with death as something gentle and dignified, who is now thrust into a world where death is unfair and messy and ugly
#someone who is familiar and comfortable with corpses and even with decay (they *do* have skeletons down there)#but death was never this visceral or terrifying thing that it is now#plus it wasn't Dying that she knew well. it was always just Death#laya plays dav#oc: ylva ingellvar
