my thoughts on brothership!

The first thing i need to address:

YOU.

the moment i saw him. It was all over. The collar, the dress, the spiked cloak...

- My God. I love reclusa. I love his little noises, his silly faces. I love it. We havent seen a twist final boss since pit (...ok techically bis too but. To a lesser degree). I love the angst between him and cozette. I wish he showed his true power more..? As cool as he is hes kind of underwhelming, especially compared to the lore tidbits we get on him. Too bad we will never see him again lol 💔

- the final boss fight itself was really underwhelming tbh. All this build up and I had him knocked out in like 10 turns without dying once. It doesnt help the music (while i like it!) doesnt stand up to the likes of the grand finale or even paper jam's final boss theme.

- I cannot believe there wasnt a single fawful cameo in the entire game. Like the fact cackletta fans ate So good yet there wasnt so much as a whisper of by far the most popular m&l character was.. baffling.

- reefs. As small as they were, i really liked the character choices. Zeekeeper and peasley were strange but incredibly based picks. Everyone got a little somethimg to eat, no matter what your favorite game is : )

what I dont understand about reefs is.. are they from mario and luigis world? Or were they natively in concordia prior? How do they know about peasley and the shroobs? Who made them? How? Why? The implications are all over the place.

-cozette. You poor thing. I love her. This kind of applies to the whole game but I wish they didnt just tell us the plot. Her reveal wouldve felt so much more significant if the great conductor didnt just spill the beans right before.

I forgot to mention it before but as much as I like snoutlet... he holds the players hand too much. Please. Let me figure out the puzzle myself. Let me connect the plot myself without you dumbing it down for my pea sized brain. Pleas.

- technikki and adaphne. I know the game heavily implies adaphnikki is endgame i just dont know how I feel about it... adaphne is just so mean to her for no reason. Even if they get along by the end, technikki shouldnt just lie down like a dog for her! She was so mean to her! And never even apologized! Idk im glad theres like 5 different ladies we can ship technikki with but this one is pushed so hard ingame..

- kind of a minor plothole but chilliam and burnadettes wedding. I thought it was really interesting how they portrayed the two as deeply in love, even if their own people refuse to accept it, but then the next cutscene later theyre all fine with it? Ok lol

Used-to-be-Thursday-Night-Link-Round-Up - August 21st

I am writing this early so I’ll actually be on time this week, lol.

Ahahahahaha, what a joke. I literally wrote this on Wednesday so I would be early this week and I’m trash who ended up just... mainlining two different, long-ass manga during the week (idk what happened to my time, for real), and now I’m late. XD

Anyway, here it is:

We start with a video by Philosophy Tube, because I adore that man (did I say that once? I feel like I might have… whatever) his penchant for making videos that are thoroughly entertaining at the same time as being massively informative and very funny just appeals to the fact that I grew up on Bill Nye, Beakman’s World, and Horrible Histories and must be debuffed by Comedy in order to remember anything I learn. Such is the life of having brain gremlins that put you to sleep whenever you’re doing something boring (and a great many things are boring when your nervous system runs only on Interest).

The topic of this video is Anti-Semitism, and is a look at - as one person in the comments pointed out - modern antisemitism(maybe he could do a look at the ancient origins of it at some point, because I know I want to know where it comes from and keep forgetting to look it up), but I think he wanted to look a the question of “Why Jews?” in the modern era because they tend to be the scapegoat for, like, ….everything.

The only downside of the video - for me - is: eight years of French classes had me cringing at his pronunciation. The cringe was evenly distributed throughout the video, for that reason, lol.

Onto the Michael Brooks Show, because I’m slowly going through the backlogs of videos I haven’t watched. This is an interview with Touré Reed about the uncoupling of Race and Class by Liberals in politics. 

This decoupling obviously makes dealing with issues where those two things intersect more difficult to address, because if you only address one and not the other you’re not addressing the whole of the root of the problem. “World War 2 ended the Great Depression, but because it was The New Deal on steroids,” is not something I ever thought of, but now that he’s explained it it makes total fucking sense.

Some internet history for you from Inside a Mind: I had never heard of Fantastic Daily before this, I’m not sure how since I like ARGs and have caught onto a few before they wrapped up and I think they’re fun. 

This is interesting because it’s like, “What happens when a bunch of people who aren’t really privy to ARGs and how they work, and who honestly believe that the topic of the ARG exist find out that they’ve been playing a game all along?”

I guess it’s like this: You just lost The Game.

(I think I just had a flashback to high school because of that. I’m sorry.)

The part I just don’t understand is being an adult human and sending death threats. Like, he fooled you a little bit with some online bullshit, he didn’t kill your dog, you know? I don’t believe in ghosts or “black-eyed kids” (Black-Eyed Peas, maybe) but like, even if I did, my reaction would have been like, “Oh, you got me. Haha. Whelp, you can’t believe everything you read online,” *canned sitcom laughter as the credits roll.* It’s just bizarre to me that people got SO mad. Save the vitriol and the direct action for things that matter, you know? Like dismantling the system.

“Hey, isn’t it hard to tell the reader about your world without just telling them about it like a10-year-old who just got a book from the library about horses?” Yes. Yes it is. And also I’m scared. And also, now I want to look up horses.

Scatter your exposition. Share info in context, not as a whole chunk.

Make information implicit, rather than explicit. Help your audience make inferences by showing and not telling.

Or… get rid of it! If it’s not important to the story (it damages the experience without adding anything useful) then just take it out.

Anyway, a three-course-meal of Food For Thought for when I start editing my comic. As I was writing certain parts I was like, “This is horribly done exposition but I don’t remember how to do it better.” And I looked like this as I cried --> T_T

LOL YEAH,,,, he has. a lot of feelings. and he has always been quick 2 tear up but. it wasn’t ugly crying (thank god) it was like. bliss crying?? if that makes sense?? like all his feelins didn’t know what 2 do so hes just. tears. so many of them. and YES he was the guy that sees the bride for the first time and has 2 cover his mouth bc he wants to SCREECH with love,,,,, and me ?? i was like. I’m not gonna cry not gonna do it i am not i am NOT- and i ALMOST lost it when he started cryin!!! but i barely made it 2 the vows and i was. just. donkey noises. thank god I’m not a mascara person fjdjh

Hyacinth: how do you celebrate your wedding anniversary?

Pru breaks some stereotypes in that he NEVER forgets an anniversary or important date tbh he would celebrate half birthdays,, so he is Timely and Punctual!! He doesn’t technically ~work~ anymore so he can do whatever he wants most days but!! on anniversary days he goes STUPID all out romantic!!! like !! all year he’s gathering favors from other nations n anyone he can network with and we end up in a 5 star hotel with 500$ steaks and a jacuzzi by the end of the night and I’m like. who’s paying for this. and he’s like. the queen of england owes me some favors. but we do make it a tradition 2 go to a candy store during the day!! why buys each other candy we might not like when we can just go 2 a big candy buffet and destroy our dental hygiene ourselves!!

Anemone: was your wedding small or extravagant? Were there many guests or just close friends?

ok hear me out on this: two ceremonies. one of them is the more private, official and legal wedding at the courthouse kinda thing with his friends (who swore 2 be on their best behavior for once) and mine (whom were mostly in charge of keeping the boys from doing dumb things). then. the party wedding. hell yeah. and speaking of calling in favors?? we rented out a WHOLE ren faire event. like. the whole venue. it’s right after the faire itself so it’s not a huge bother 2 the folks that make it happen!! we have SO many people there just a ridiculous amount. people i aint seen in YEARS. especially exes bc we’re petty lol. turkey legs and funnel cake and JOUSTING and prussia definitely tries to do the keg toss and almost DIES (his bro germany breaks the keg accidentally) everyone is in costume and the vendors are super discounted (dw they’re gettin some good pay for puttin up with us lol) and everyone addresses me n prussia as ‘your highness’ ☺️ (that actually happened last year n i about fainted)

sweet pea: did your wedding have a theme?

making it a ren faire definitely set a theme!!!! but some of them were.... less than consistent. there was definitely a master chief cosplayer and neither of us know who it was. which is fine!! but i don’t think he was invited lol. either way prussia probably spent an obscene amount of time/money on costumes for us both and made sure they were historically accurate and comfortable,,,,, everyone was welcome 2 dress up if they want but it’s not required, and it didn’t have 2 be strictly medieval either!! there were a lot of kilts. maybe too many. things were seen

Sunflower: were either of you stressed or worried before the ceremony?

The private one a little bit mostly because A. it’s so... idk. official. paperwork??? legally binding contracts??? I’m ok with it but if i misspell something will i get prison time or smth??? also slightly concerned his friends would show up in inflatable dinosaur costumes like they did for the bachelor party (prussia did end up wearing his godforsaken white tailcoat suit) djshsh but the party wedding was like. christmas morning excitement. the whole way there I’m just Vibrating,,, excited for the big ol ceremony in front of our friends and excited for the FOOD and the performances and have u heard of the musical blades?? they definitely sing for us and i LOVE THEM captain patch is my fave pirate man..... it’s just JOY and friends and food and fun and laughing and SO much smiling and goodness!!!!
