talk about the AU come on come on
ok ok twist my arm why don't you /lh
so it's not like he gives up immediately, because that's not who he is; he's a naruhodou, asinine levels of determination and overcoming impossible challenges is in the red of their blood. to everyone in london, those he left behind, the only indication they get towards the beginning is the steady decline in not only the length of his letters and the amount of detail in his updates, but the diligence with which he replies. regular correspondence turns infrequent which turns into letter after letter desperately tossed across the wide expanse of the sea between them, never to be heard from again. the last one who gets a letter is kazuma, because the letter comes with a package, and in the package is karuma. there's about ten good seconds of fury about his family's ancestral sword being shipped like cargo until kazuma actually processes what that might mean
because like i said... there's no face for them to fight, no single shadowy figure behind the curtain to reveal with a hail mary piece of evidence and a turnabout--assuming that ryuunosuke's entire education in the field of law consisted of his time on the ss burya (~40 days) and the six months after the windibank trial (~6 months), both of which were at least primarily if not entirely dedicated to understanding british law, he doesn't have the building blocks he would need to completely restructure a legal system period, not to mention one that he's almost entirely unfamiliar with. he could work as ryutaro's legal aide while he studies up, but... what happens in a universe where jigoku isn't the judge and doesn't already know who susato is? what happens when everything doesn't work out in their favor?
it's an impossible task for one person, and it's an impossible task for two people, and mikotoba or kazuma might have connections but does that extend to a lawyer without a degree or any formal education? it doesn't matter where or when exactly the luck runs out, but it does. and that would hit hard, because it's not because ryuunosuke believed in the wrong client, it's because he wasn't good enough. he didn't make it. hope and resolve and determination don't rebuild an entire judicial system on their own, and he learns that fast. and he learns it, and learns it, and learns it, and he can't even look at kazuma's sword anymore because at least kazuma is doing something, at least kazuma is trying while ryuunosuke is spinning in place. he can't tell the people that he loves that he can't keep going, so he doesn't.
either he gets dragged back to london or there's a convocation on his doorstep one morning and he gets to be scrutinized by his closest friends, his family, and called out on his actions and asked why, why he's given up, why would he give up now? and it's easy to wade through kazuma's anger and iris's disappointment and sholmes's barbs but it's incredibly hard to deal with van zieks, who just. despondent. doesn't really know what to do. and "maybe they've come to help me?" turns into "if you're so grateful for me saving your life can you stop looking at me like i'm shattered glass, please?!"
i just want ryuunosuke to be unhappy and unhealthy is that too much to ask. i want to break this man
#do not judge me if any of the canon plot is wrong or anything i did not take my adderall todya i am not in my best form#i would love to add more but zzz so i would love to hear opinions and ideas from others

For the ask game - 👑, 🍀, 🎭, ✈️ and 📖
Look forward to your answers bae!
thanks for the question bae ^^ hope you enjoy my incessant rambling
👑 - favorite Disney princess
oh man oh jeez we start with the difficult questions how could you do this to me /lh
hmm. hmmm. as a kid i loved belle because she read books and so did i and i thought I was special, but i like her less as an adult. maybe because of that godawful live action remake.
i also liked Pocahontas until i grew up and that movie started filling me with primal rage over Disney trying to get 6 year old me into a damn colonizer
also as a kid, i loved Mulan because she kicked ass and i showed signs of terminal fruitiness at an early age. and you know what she may be my favorite Disney princess! i love it when princesses are buff and defend an entire country and have a himbo bisexual boyfriend and use she/they pronouns. go Mulan, i love Mulan.
☘️ - are you superstitious?
not really, I don't think so, or at least not in the traditional sense of the word. like i won't avoid walking behind ladders and i am not fearful of the number 13 or black cats and all those stereotypical superstitious things. i am very skeptical of the paranormal as well (thanks shane madej from buzzfeed unsolved fame), and i grew out of the Catholic faith, but i do believe i am still superstitious in some ways.
like, say what you will about the horoscope, but sometimes it gets things eerily accurate. same goes for tarot cards. i guess you could say i am a believer, but a reluctant one lmao
🎭 - favorite play
that's a very very difficult question because not only am i the Ultimate Pretentious English Major, i am also a theater kid, which means i am a pedantic nerd times two. however, if i had to narrow my many favorite plays to one? the best play I've ever read or seen on a stage? the one I wish everyone had heard about? i know just the one.
The House of Bernarda Alba (1936), by Federico García Lorca. if i could i would make everyone in the world forcefully study Lorca because he truly was a genius and if he had been with us for thirty years more he would've done SO much.
in Bernarda Alba, an old, resented and domineering matriarch becomes a widow for the second time in her life and, as Spanish Southern tradition demands, shuts herself and her five grown daughters inside her house in mourning. soon envy and jealousy grow between the sisters partly because of a man, partly because of existent issues that were never addressed but now have to be, and those tensions and bottled-up emotions eventually become fatal. it's heartbreaking, it's raw, it's absolutely superb and i WISH people outside of Spain would just study more Lorca because he truly had an exceptional understanding of the female psyche, of life in a rural and oppressive setting, of tradition and forbidden love and sin and of a very very profound sadness. i love him, and his plays, and his poetry was the very first poetry that actually touched my soul. all hail Lorca and all hail his masterpiece (which coincidentally is the very last play he completed before his murder)
✈️ - where do you want to travel
to be honest i haven't traveled nearly as much as I would like to, so the bucket list is a very long one! one of the main places i would love to visit would be Ireland again, because i went there back in eighth grade and i fell in love with it: people who are sweet and patient to a fault with tourists, good music, folk tradition that runs deep, endless green. such a beautiful country, i wish I had fully experienced it instead of being a socially anxious 14 year old
i am currently going through a United Kingdom phase as well: Cornwall (gee thanks poldark BBC), Bath (jane austen making me delusional since 1813), London (sherlock sherlock sherlock sherlo-), Wales (arthurian myth yadda yadda i need therapy), and the entirety of Scotland (i watched outlander and all i liked was the scenery)
apart from that, i really would like to get out of Europe, which i never have. maybe the us (for like a day so i could go to broadway i would not tolerate Americans any more than that /j) and also Canada (ngngngngn snow gnhsnshs pwetty). OH and Asia and Africa and all those places my textbooks were determined to make me forget about but i will NEVER i physically need to visit what was once Mesopotamia or i might combust
📖 - favorite book
ooOOoooO boy. you DID NOT just ask a pretentious English major what her favorite book is. OooOoOO *bouncy balls around her bedroom*
okay so let's narrow it down to a genre. romance, of course. what makes us human is to love and grieve and what is there more full of love and grief than romance books, right. i also enjoy fantasy and horror and well, any genre in general, but romance specifically. (not sci-fi, though. i don't know why but i don't vibe with sci-fi with the notable exception of doctor who)
let's get a time period. god, it has to be romanticism. for me, literature and art PEAKED at romanticism: people being so-emotional-and-for-what, unnecessary drama, nostalgia, appreciation of the nature around us, the dark and supernatural. together with romance, you get epic and doomed and tragic love stories that never end well. what else could you possibly want? UGH it's so EXTRA i LOVE IT
uh oh. romance and romanticism? (though VERY late romanticism mind you). i know where this is heading.
is it wuthering heights.
is my favorite book actually wuthering heights.
oh no I think it is. does this count as a diagnosis.
i mean... the desolate landscape... the forbidden relationship that was doomed from before the start... the emotionally unavailable Byronic hero... the passionate and wild heroine... the tragedy that you can see coming but you don't want to believe... emotions bare and raw and real and screaming at the top of your lungs... "you said i killed you – haunt me then"... GOD IT IS MY FAVORITE BOOK ISN'T IT
honorary mentions: To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee for being the first book to make me *really* cry and think; The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Anne Bronte for having a decent and healthy relationship as opposed to whatever the fuck the author's sisters were into; A Good Girl's Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson for single-handedly surpassing any crime book i have ever read; and Frankenstein, by Mary Shelley, because honestly, that woman deserved the world
here you have bae if you have read everything i command you for your patience lmao hope you have got to know me a lil better ^^
p.s. here is a poem by Lorca for the gay agenda it is his most famous one and it makes me feel Things
#tag game#*dances around in lorca propaganda*#i am in need of Therapy 😀#this was fun!! thanks bae <3

16 cutoria but in a vampire/werewolf au?
ANON LOOK WHAT YOU DID ITS 6716 WORDS LONG/lh
16 “I didn’t want to tell you like this, but I have no choice.” Werewolf AU Cú Chulainn x Arturia Pendragon
________
“You’ve stalled for too long, brat.”
The she-wolf dropped into the clearing without a sound, her experienced paws padding across the forest floor as lightly as the beating of butterfly wings. Scáthach was a creature of grace, even as a large canine. Her hunts were nothing short of elegant either, carried out quiet enough such as not to disturb the night. It was no wonder at all that she was once the Alpha of the pack.
The new Alpha was not so. Though the runs he was tasked to lead were mostly just as productive, he was rough and arrogant, hunting larger prey while scorning rabbits and smaller faunus. While the pups enjoyed being handed larger game whenever he came to the den, his chosen prey’s strangled cries always alerted nearby animals to go running. In winter, such conduct put the whole pack in danger of going hungry.
Despite that, it was only Scáthach who ever told him off, for there was no one else quite as strong as the large grey beast that was bestowed the honor of being their leader.
“You know what snow does to the rival packs, Cú,” hummed the wiser wolf as she circled the hubristic pup. She was never in favor of putting him in the lead just yet, but she had served her purpose, teaching him all that she knew. She didn’t doubt he had the prowess. He just lacked the responsibility.
“They have been seen closing in on our territory, now that prey runs scarce. You’ve been lucky, bringing in as much elk as you have thus far. But how will you maintain that while defending the territory, hm? Pull a miracle and find some loose sheep like you did last winter?”
Her pup-turned-leader snorted, shaking his snout as he stalked away. “This another attempt at getting me a mate, old hag?”
The she-wolf bared her teeth at the new alpha, batting his snout with her paw. “A mate shows power and longevity, you know this. Fionn may not have been the best father to you, but he brought you brothers and he brought you safety.”
“I ain’t taking Medb,” Cú snarled back, his fur standing on end at the thought. “So shove it. I’m heading out. Tell Ferdíad I can’t make it to game night.”
Without another word, the alpha wolf bounded off into the trees faster than the human eye could follow. He leapt past hills, his paws crunching snow beneath him, careless of the little prey that scuttled about. They were done with today’s hunt. Even Ferdíad's litter could go to sleep completely satisfied.
The wolf dodged through the thick vegetation mile after mile, until the paths he marked out for the younger wolves were no longer in sight. Although he doubted the den mother would approve of him going so far out into their territory alone, he was the alpha now. His decisions would no longer be questioned.
Finally, he came to a cave: an old abandoned bear den, that lesser beings avoided though its owner no longer lived there. His sharp ruby eyes darted to his surroundings, making sure he wasn’t followed. Then, he entered the den, as he had done several times before, and came out the cave’s other end.
Only Diarmuid knew about his hideout, and he’d like to keep it that way. As long as the beta kept this little secret within the pack territory, Cú could keep her safe.
The large canine made his way past a few evergreen trees ‘til the humble farm came into view. Sure enough, there she was in the middle of the fenced off enclosure, sitting amongst her sheep while the lambs fed on the last of the grass.
Here was Scáthach’s little “miracle”: a shepherd that had seen Cú’s starving figure at the edge of her farm last winter and purposely left her fence gate open. To this day, Cú still did not know why she did it, but her generosity got his entire pack through the harsh season.
In return, he’d secretly kept foxes and wild wolves off her farm, making sure the lesser beings knew better than to encroach on his personal territory.
At least, that’s what he did as a wolf.
Cú returned to his little cave, snarling as his fur receded into his skin. The alpha curled onto the ground, biting his own paw to stifle his groans as the bones within him shrank and contorted into a lesser form. His snout receded into a straight nose, his fangs into passably human sharp teeth. Without his night vision, Cú reached blindly for the small duffel bag tucked into a small hollow and pulled out an artificial coat and a pair of trousers.
What snuck out of the enclosure was no longer a grey apex predator, but a tall, muscled man with flowing dark hair: an ordinary hunter, no more special than the ones that frequented the northern town.
The bell chimed as he walked through the entrance, signalling the blonde shop owner of his arrival. Cú tried not to smile too widely as Arturia Pendragon popped her head through the staff door, but he knew that was a futile effort.
“Hey, shortie.”
“Good evening, Cú,” replied the woman, snorting at his favorite nickname for her as he hung his coat on the rack. “I have your usual ready...though I still cannot understand why you prefer coming here rather than the supermarket. You know Arthur takes our supply every Monday. He's down there with Arash the rest of the week. Isn’t that a little closer to home?”
Right. She still thought he lived in town. It was easier than saying he lived across the woods in a village even more secluded then hers which would be impossible to get to from here without a two hour drive unless you were a wolf that could cross the forest terrain in a fraction of time, so he didn’t correct her.
The Irishman shrugged and sank into the rug before the fireplace. “Mutton’s better fresh. 'Sides, the grocers don't stock your pies. Ya really should sell 'em, Arturia, I'm tellin' ya.”
The woman scoffed, lightly nudging her friend to the side with her foot. As he scooched over, she set down a food tray between them: one with two glasses of whiskey and two slices of pie.
"Flatterer," she accused, handing the bigger slice to Cú anyway. He wolfed it down in seconds.
The first time he showed up at her door went much the same way, just a lot more awkward.
It was the day after his wolf came home with her sheep. He'd already knocked on her door to thank her before realizing how stupid that idea was. What was he meant to say?
Hey, uh, thanks for letting me hunt your sheep to feed my pack. My best friend's wife just popped a litter of hungry babies, hehe gotta feed them young am I right? Oh, by the way, I'm the wolf from yesterday, nice to meet you—Yep. No. not gonna work. This was a terrible idea. Stupid, really. He was stupid. Why did he even come here again?
Then she swung open the door, freezing the man in place with his mouth half open.
"Can I help you?" She asked, but before he could even reply, he was greeted by snow. Everywhere. All at once. Down his spine and into his underwear.
Now, he wasn't as susceptible to the cold as the common human, but she did not know that. Before he could even get a word out, he was sitting in front of the fire to dry while she ran to get him something warm to drink.
A change into Arthur's clothes and some hot coffee later, he was being served pie at the dining table to make up for his unexpected snow shower.
"Again, I sincerely apologize for that. My brother and I haven't had the chance to fix the porch roof. We just moved to this old farm last month,” rambled the short Welsh woman as she handed him a hot towel.
After some hesitation and observation on the stranger’s way of dress, she asked, “Did...did you come here for lamb?"
Little did she know, she'd just handed Cú the perfect excuse. Plus, he now knew exactly how to show his gratitude.
"If I fix up yer roof would ya give me a discount?"
Over the next week, Cú would come to the Pendragon residence to make repairs. It wasn’t just the roof that needed patching up.
It turns out she and her brother were alone in the world, cheated out of their inheritance and everything else they owned by their older sister. All that was left to them was this old farm and cottage, which neither had visited since they were kids. Their half-sibling even threw in three truckloads of animals as a joke, since she had all the riches in the world to spend and a special budget for humiliating the two green-eyed blondes.
Still, the twins were educated. Brilliant, even. And though they were clumsy when it came to most household repairs, their experience tending equine stables for their late father translated rather well to animal husbandry. In a month, they had made enough to pay the bills and get them a secondhand laptop and working Wi-fi. The next month saw Arturia getting her own computer.
Half a year down the line, Cú was sure that the Pendragon siblings would move out, but here they stayed, still maintaining their humble farm though it was no longer their only form of income. Neither of them needed the burden of moving back to London, with its ridiculously high cost of living and impossible rent rates. They’d grown fond of the land they actually owned and its peace.
That suited Cú just fine, because he had grown fond of Arturia.
Cú still visited, even after all the repairs had finished. His nephews were always hungry, and while the mutton did not satisfy the little pups’ bloodlust as much as wild game, it made up for the deficit while the children were in human form. But even Arthur knew his bi-monthly purchases were just an excuse.
He was there for the coffees, for the brief moments his fingers would brush hers. He was there for the whiskey, the cheap bottles they shared before the fireplace while she told him everything she could about the city. He was there to make fun of her posh way of speaking, to pull the ribbon from her hair, to bring her fruits and berries and furs and let her read him books.
He was there for her.
Scáthach’s training only increased in intensity as the months passed, and between his day job and being the new alpha, Cú had little time left for himself. But what he could spare, he spent with his favorite person, even if it was just watching her tend her sheep from a distance while he kept foxes out of her territory.
Cú tucked a lock of blonde hair behind her ear, happy to see she didn’t even flinch, but plagued by the thought of his wolf. He was the pack alpha now, and that meant a shitload of other responsibilities that would keep him from her for as long as he held that title.
“That’s all yer charging me, shortie? Nah, can’t be,” Cú resisted, pushing a few more bills across the table. “That’s way too cheap, even if yer sweet on me.”
Pink-faced, Arturia slid the packed meats back across the counter, reached behind her, and procured a carefully wrapped circular dish which she placed in a bag.
“Take it,” she insisted, hooking the bag onto his fingers. “We’ve been ridiculously lucky to not get any wolves and foxes considering how much higher into the mountains we live compared to the rest of the town. There is more than enough left for Arthur and I.”
Cú peeked into the extra bag, catching a glimpse of a familiar crust. God, she was far too kind. He’d reject the offer, but he’d always wanted to bring some shepherd’s pie back to the pack. This was his chance.
“Ya sure?”
“Absolutely,” she confirmed, holding open the front door as Cú made his exit. “This is the least I could do for you, Cú. You have helped make us feel home in this far-off place. I would even say that you are family but—”
“Go out with me,” the werewolf interrupted, shoving all his reservations into his internal dumpster. He didn’t know how yet, but he was gonna make this work. “Come on, I know ya like me, shortie.”
Tiptoeing, Arturia snaked a hand into his hair and pulled him down to her level, planting a small kiss on his cheekbone.
“It is...a little more than ‘like’, I believe,” the woman admitted bashfully, trying to mask her embarrassment by awkwardly sneaking back behind the door. “...Eight tomorrow?”
Cú bit his lip, glad to hear confirmation on what he already knew. She loved him back. She loved him back. God, he better not be looking like a child just handed some candy.
“Nah, this morning weekend. This weekend morning. The morning of this weekend,” he fumbled, rewarded with a short chuckle from her end. “I wanna have a whole day with ya for once, shortie. I’ll make it worth yer time.”
There was a spring in his step as the alpha bounded across the forest that night, carrying the bags carefully with the handles between his teeth.
If only he weren’t so distracted. Then he’d have noticed the salivating spy that watched him leave the abandoned bear den with a fresh pack of meat.
Snow fell heavily across the landscape on Tuesday evening, covering the last of autumn’s colors in a blanket of pure white. After dinner time was always idle for Cú, so he spent it sharing Arturia’s gift with the kids and spinning his phone in his fingers.
Instinct told him a storm was coming, and though it would probably have passed by Saturday, Cú wondered if he should try and reschedule his anticipated date. He wasn’t too worried about Arturia, since Arthur said he’d be coming back up to the cottage tonight, so at least she wouldn’t be alone all through it. Plus, the twins really did have a lot of food in stock. In comparison, he and his pack were the ones less prepared.
His sharp ears perked up as a familiar presence entered the grounds. The alpha’s brow knitted, as the slight smell of blood entered the air, but if the little ones weren’t alarmed, it must not have been such a serious wound.
Diarmuid stepped into the kitchen, still pulling on a wool jacket and shaking the snow off of his dark hair.
“Evening, Alpha,” the handsome man said softly, taking notice of the pie that sat in front of the pups.
“Oh for fuck’s sake, just call me Cú. Yer no less my little bro now than ya were before, Diar,” he corrected, sliding a plate his way. “Try that.”
The amber-eyed man approached the meal like a cat did water: hesitantly and suspiciously. Thankfully, as soon as he had a taste he had about the same reaction as Ferdiad’s kids did. Which was...basically nearly crying tears of joy.
“Where did you say you got this?” Diarmuid asked, snatching up another helping as Cú smirked. He’d not give the answer up that easily.
The alpha’s red eyes landed on his brother’s shoulder, finding a clumsy bandage just sticking out the collar. At once, he herded the beta into a different room, far enough from the pups that they couldn’t hear.
“The hell happened to ya?” Cú demanded, pulling the shirt collar to the side to better gauge the severity of the wound.
“It’s a warning, Sétanta” Scáthach answered for her son, entering the log cabin from the back door. “The rival packs were closing in on the border. I doubt their side of the mountain is as scarce as they make it out to be and yet they have the gall to encroach on ours.”
“Our territory’s guarded. That’s why we moved Fergus, ain’t it? To cover all bases. Den in the center with the pups, Me and Diar in the North, and dad in the South. Fergus’s gang to the west, and we got the town in the east and all wolves know not to mess with the towns,” Cú shot back, unconcerned.
Red eyes much alike to Cú’s observed him with kind care, seeing the wolf pup and alpha both. The new leader was strong, but he was arrogant. In a way, he was a perfect successor, for she knew he could kill her should the need arise. However, too loose he was with laws; too untethered by the rules that kept their kind safe.
“It would be a show of strength to take a mate. To let all know that our new Alpha has his right hand—”
Cú waved his arms dismissively. “The hands I do have are more than enough to drive them off. Ya know that. Now, are we stocking up for the pups or what? The storm ain’t gonna delay, I can smell it.”
22:24 Read
Cú paced the main den like a dog kept in an enclosure for far too long, tossing his half-charged phone while he awaited her message.
Four days. It had been four days since the blizzard started, piling snow on top of snow day after day as if it was trying to beat some arctic record. The log cabin’s ground floor was completely sealed in. They’d been on generator for the last four hours, listening to the weatherman on the radio as he promised for the third time that tonight the storm would finally pass.
Diarmuid was curling up with his nephews, keeping them warm in wolf form as they slept. Cú thanked every god he knew that they went on a hunt before the blizzard hit, else the kids went hungry. He and Diarmuid hadn’t planned to stay at their brother’s but the weather hardly gave them a choice. Their cottage was a lot further off.
22:24 Read
Cracks appeared on the glass as Cú glared into his mobile’s screen, hoping for some sort of change. But no. There sat the same exchange from an hour ago, the same bloody text just very loudly broadcasting to him the worst news of today.
One of our generators broke down. I need to move the power to the barn.
For real? Are you okay, shortie?
Arturia?
Hey, ya can’t just leave me hangin like that.
Arturia?
22:24 Read
“Sétanta, would you just put the bloody phone down?!” Ferdiad screeched, snatching the device right out of the alpha’s hands. “I said we were gonna talk, how the hell are we supposed to talk when yer not even givin’ me the bloody time of day!”
The low growl that escaped through the alpha’s bared teeth shook the cabin like an earthquake.
“What,” Cú barked, grabbing his precious device back while his brother stood his ground. “If this is just another lecture about how Scáthach was right, I should have just fucked with Medb and get it over with, I ain’t hearing another fucking word.”
22:24 Read
“No, you piece of—” Ferdiad inhaled sharply, his nostrils flaring with frustration. The older man grabbed his brother by the shoulders, shaking him like a rattle. “Cú. Listen to me.”
As Diarmuid shushed them both, Ferdiad pointed outside, to where nothing could be seen but heavy white ice.
“Do you seriously think Scáthach wants you to mate that pink-haired priss? ‘Course not. She just needs ya to set down roots,” the delta wolf explained, looking over the alpha’s shoulder to his three sons. “You are the strongest of us, Cú, but nothing ties ya to this territory. For all the outsiders know you could be planning to move and make your own pack.”
The younger of them grimaced as Diarmuid nodded from his perch with the pups.
“I ain’t going nowhere,” the new alpha emphasized, shrugging out of his brother’s touch.
“Well they don’t know that! What if this whole time, the only reason they haven’t advanced is cause we’ve been keeping close watch on our borders, hm? Hell, you and Diar have basically been here the entire fucking week, they probably think you’ve bloody moved on. Wouldn’t surprise me in the least if they took advantage of this stupid storm to move into our territory, now that you’re not guarding the north!” Ferdiad argued, baring his fangs at his superior.
22:24 Read.
Cú’s heart stopped, the poor phone in his hands near crunching in his grip. No. The Pendragons didn’t live too far from the town. It was fine. She was fine. Just snowed in.
No werewolf was crazy enough to go near town in their canine form, not even the rival packs. There was too much risk of being found out. Simply no way.
Unless...
22:24 Read.
Unless they didn’t have any food in store. Unless they were looking for some easy pickings. Maybe a couple of sheep that wouldn’t be missed, stolen from a farm just a little out of range of the nearby village.
A farm with a single, vulnerable caretaker, forced to share a heater with her flock.
22:24 Read.
Cú frantically pressed the call button and put the phone to his ear, shushing Ferdiad before the delta could return to making his arguments. Three rings later and the line cut. He tried again, heart dropping like deadweight when it gave the same result.
His footsteps became panicked as he walked round in circles, scrolling upward to a contact that was here only for emergencies.
“Arthur,” Cú said through the phone, hearing the familiar voice of his blonde friend coming through the line. “‘S Arturia there with ya?”
Suddenly a quiet bang resounded throughout the room. A gunshot, deafened by distance and snow. Any false sense of security Cú still had shattered with the sound.
“The hell?” Ferdiad exclaimed, rushing towards his children to comfort them. “There can’t be any humans crazy enough to hunt in that storm.”
The alpha was no longer around to hear him.
Arturia never held any hate for her half-sister. Not even when she banned her and her twin to Ireland with nothing left to their name. Despite everything, Arturia thought her punishment was not too cruel, for she still had Arthur. She still had a degree under her belt, and in a way, Morgan had cast her far away from a destiny she didn’t even want to fulfil. Arthur never wanted to take over the mining company and neither did she.
The first few weeks were difficult, but they learned to live on their own. They made a humble world for themselves that wasn’t tied to their prestigious last name. It was simple. But it was good.
She’d admit it got a little lonely with just the two of them around, but...then there was Cú. Cú, who helped them fix up the house, who came bringing drinks or food they could all share by the fire. Cú, who helped them get set up at the market, who got them their regular buyers and still made himself a frequent customer. Cú, who made up excuses just to see her, who scorned the couch to lie down on her lap while she read.
The cabin was always a little warmer when he was around. It was home when he was around.
She should have asked him out sooner.
The wolves came crashing through the windows, raining thick glass all over her flock. There were seven of them. All massive beasts with fur of brown and grey, glowing eyes and bared fangs. In their view, she may as well have been just another sheep, helpless in the face of the predator.
The air was a cacophony of distressed bleating, panicked hooves and growls as the sheep tried their best to escape their fate. Amidst it were her own hoarse screams as a brown beast sank its fangs into her arms, her frantic kicks to its belly doing nothing to throw the large beast off. Desperate green eyes searched the floor for her gun, which sat useless under her first attacker, a chestnut wolf that had ignored smaller prey and gone straight for her.
Her own blood dripped down onto her cheeks as the wolf above her crushed her limbs between its teeth. Arturia’s eyes prickled with tears as fresh cries escaped her lips, grieving not from the pain but for all she was going to lose. So soon, she had to say goodbye to her new life, her brother, to any chance she ever had at a happy ending.
The woman felt her predator’s claw stomp onto her throat, stifling her screams as its teeth dug into her shoulder. Salt fell freely from her eyes as the beast tore through the muscle. Was this how she was going to die? Cold and alone amongst the carcasses of her flock? Was this how Arthur would find her when the blizzard did subside, torn to pieces and left scattered all over the barn floor?
Arturia shut her eyes, unwilling to let her last sight be that of her killer. Instead, she thought of Arthur, hoping someone would be there for him through it all. She thought of Cú, she thought of the lovely blue dress she was supposed to wear when she finally went out with him. She’d been waiting for the day to finally wear it. She knew he loved the color blue.
As her lungs began to burn for air, her final thought was a prayer to a God she didn’t know she still believed in. If she were to die today, then let it be the last pain her two favorite boys would ever experience—
Suddenly, frigid oxygen entered her lungs as her attacker was tackled off of her, leaving Arturia hacking and coughing as she gasped for breath. She sat up dizzily, gripping her injured shoulder with bleeding arms as she tried to get her bearings.
The pack had abandoned the few sheep that were left, hounding instead the new arrival: a wolf easily larger than her from head to tail, with grey fur that glistened in the little light. Its glowing red eyes seemed aflame with rage as it sank its teeth into her attacker’s throat and snapped its neck like a toothpick, showering all the surrounding dogs with their leader’s blood. Even then, the grey wolf did not stop, jumping at the next canine and carrying out its execution.
The woman limped to the exit as fast as she could, bracing herself against the biting cold as she made her way back to the cabin. Behind her, the barking continued as wolf fought against wolf, the red-eyed one beating off the remaining four while the frightened sheep ran wild with fear.
Arturia slammed the cabin door closed behind her, bolting every lock there was with frostbitten fingers before sneaking a glance back into the barn through the window. There was barely anything to make out amidst the pouring snow and the painful throbbing in her head, but all she knew was that somehow...the newcomer was winning.
She didn’t know what kind of divine intervention must have occurred for that wolf to come save her, but...all it did was buy her a little time. Even if she was safe from predators in the cabin, the freezing cold would take her before morning. Maybe she could start a fire, but she’d lost so much blood, she could barely even stand.
After much struggle to ignite the tinder, the injured woman slumped onto the rug before the fireplace, taking comfort in the hearth’s warmth as the blizzard raged on outside.
A loud crash brought her attention behind her, to where stood the red eyed wolf, blood staining the grey fur on his shoulder. Two emotions gripped her heart at the same time: fear and recognition. As the beast stalked its way toward her, she finally understood why he looked so familiar.
It was the young wolf from last year, the one who sat right outside her fence, neither coming in to attack her flock, nor fleeing at the sight of her. She’d always wondered what became of him after he ran off with a couple of her sheep. He had a lot more weight on him compared to back then, enough that she knew it was hopeless to try fighting him off. If he’d somehow defeated the entire pack in the barn, an injured human like herself didn’t stand a chance.
“It’s you, isn’t it?” she croaked, her shattered vocal chords barely able to keep up. “Please just make it quick.”
Almost as if he could understand her, the wolf whimpered and flattened his ears against his head, lowering himself as he approached.
For the second time that night, Arturia shut her eyes as the wolf caged her broken, shivering figure to the floor. She stiffened, anticipating another bite as he brought his head closer.
Then she felt a warm tongue lick her cheek.
Arturia’s eyes snapped open in surprise, locking with increasingly familiar ruby irises. The wolf lay its head on her chest, gently resting on top of her as it whimpered. Suddenly, it began to whine, jerking back and forth as its body contorted itself into a different shape. One that was smaller, one that hadn’t a silver coat of fur, one that no longer crushed her underneath its weight.
Soon it wasn’t a wolf at all that Arturia held in her arms, but a man. Large hands that she recognized traveled up to her cheeks, his thumbs stroking away her tears. Her heart warred with itself, overtaken by pain, relief, fear, security. But all of that could wait.
Cú leaned forward til he was kissing her, molding his mouth into hers til he had her lips memorized.
“Cú,” Arturia whispered, when they separated to breathe, her injured arms wearily looping around his neck. “You’re…”
“Sorry,” The man shushed her with another deep kiss, enveloping her shivering figure into his embrace. “I didn’t wanna tell you like this, but I have no choice. I’m—”
“The wolf from last winter,” she interrupted, her mind struggling to put together the pieces. “The…wolf who came to save me. You were here with me this whole tim—mmh”
The man’s fingers snaked behind her head, supporting her as tasted her mouth once more.
“Ya saved me first.”
There was a desperation in the way that he moved, the way he touched her cold skin. He didn’t want it to be like this. He wished their first kiss would have been somewhere warm. He wanted to take her out to the lake, hold her hand…not drag her into his world of hunt-or-be-hunted.
Cú pressed his lips to her neck, regretting the multitude of wounds she sustained there. If only he were here earlier. If only he were faster. This would never have happened if wasn’t so damn careless.
The werewolf pulled down her scarf and jacket, exposing the deep wounds the rival pack leader had left at the junction of her shoulder and all over her arms.
They bit her.
Cú pursed his lips, placing a few more kisses to her temple. He hoped it would be enough. He hoped she would understand his feelings for her. He hoped she would forgive him.
“Let’s get ya patched up, shortie, okay?”
Cú borrowed some of Arthur’s clothes for the second time, leaving her momentarily to redirect the power back to the cottage instead of the barn. There were nothing but carcasses to warm over there now. After that, he no longer left her side, nursing her wounds the best that he could and keeping her close to share his body heat.
“You’re gonna turn,” Cú said seriously, hugging the one person he loved more than anything to his chest. Werewolf saliva was powerful, and so their kind never endeavored to sink their teeth into humans unless they were sure to kill the target or intentionally make them part of their pack.
“How soon?” Arturia answered back, turning to look up at her saviour. All the fear in her eyes had disappeared, replaced with melancholy and trust. Of course she was upset. Creatures of his world had just gone and stolen her new life away.
“The next full moon,” Cú answered regretfully, “Tomorrow night.”
Cú brushed her bangs out of her face, letting his ruby eyes clash with her emeralds. “Ya scared?”
The man didn’t even know why he was asking. But what were you supposed to say to someone who was just dragged into a hidden world she knew nothing about? How was he supposed to tell her she’d be riddled with bloodlust for the rest of her life, that she’d crave the hunt, that she’d yearn for the night? How was he supposed to tell her she had to give up the one family she had left to keep him away from the life of a hunter?
“Should I be?” Arturia answered, deceptively calm. No doubt, she was thinking of the heavy price she had to pay for surviving.
Cú knew Scáthach was coming. He could feel it. As soon as this bloody storm let up, the she-wolf would put her nose to the air, track him down to this cottage, and put down the rival pack’s unintentional new member before she even had the chance to morph.
Not if he could help it.
“Ya said l was like family to you, Arturia, did ya mean it?” he asked, his heart racing like crazy. His favorite person nodded into his chest, fiddling with his fingers and palm.
“Then...d’ya wanna be that to me, forever though?” he stuttered out, suddenly losing all manner of confidence.
Arturia got up to face him. “How do you mean?”
“Damn yer really gonna let me get into the specifics, huh? Right,” he mumbled, scratching the back of his head despite himself. “Look, for us, there’s just one. One mate, for the rest of our lives. You just feel this...bond with them, ya know? Strong enough ya can’t bear to be without them. If ya let me, I want you to be that for me."
"Cú, are you asking me to wed you?" she asked back, confusion settling in the crease between her brows. "But we haven't even gone out yet—"
"Ya were gonna marry me eventually," he shot back, flicking the hair outta her face. "I'm quite the husband material, dontcha think? I bring ya food, I eat your pie—my family likes them by the way—I'm handsome as fuck, not ta mention, charming, what’s the harm in speeding things up a lil’?"
The werewolf grinned at her, trying to cover up how bloody nervous he actually felt.
“And also my pack won’t kill ya. Cause you know, technically ya belong to the rival pack, because they’re the ones that bit ya. But also yer all that’s left in that pack, after tonight and…” he paused, cupping her face with his hands, “I'll still court you, 'Turia. I want to. I'll give ya a good life. Swear.”
Arturia’s lips quirked upward for a second, knowing how crazy adamant Cú could be with following promises.
"Alright,” she confirmed, accepting his kiss. “I just...I worry about Arthur."
"So you finally show up, hm? Disappear for a while, why don't you? Doesn't matter whether or not the rival pack comes to—"
Scáthach inhaled, sniffing her grey wolf pup as she circled him. Something had changed about her son, she could feel it.
"There is no rival pack," Cú answered, grinning like a madman. “Only two new additions to ours.”
"What?"
“Last winter, it stormed just like this, didn’t it? No game, not even the smallest of hares. We were considering crossing over to the other side of the mountain, yeah?” Cú asked back, eagerly goading out the she-wolf’s response. Scáthach stared at him intensely, her red eyes glowing in the light of the full moon.
“You came back with sheep—”
The grey wolf nodded its head in a near-human fashion.”They were gifts. From them.”
Cú yipped, calling for the two concealed wolves to come into the den.
One was large and long, with fur as black as the bark of trees. He came out of the woods like a moving shadow, paws of coal shuffling through the snow. Even Scáthach, who was a midnight color herself, thought she was looking straight into a beautiful void.
The second wolf was smaller. She had a pelt of pure shining white, purer even than fresh snowfall. If not for the black nose that nuzzled into their alpha as she came close, she would be completely missable in their landscape of ice.Though of shorter stature, she strode like a king. Scáthach hadn’t a doubt that if this newcomer were born a wolf, she’d be an alpha herself without question.
The two newcomers stared at the she-wolf with matching emerald eyes, each set of orbs sparkling with the colors of the aurora. Siblings. Strong ones. But any wolf could tell these two were not born with beast’s blood like the rest of them, their footsteps were too unnatural. Too clumsy. They were made beasts, and by their scent it had been the doing of the rival pack.
As her son pressed his snout to the white wolf’s nose, several things finally clicked into place. Cú had gone and done what she’d been pestering him to do for the last few months and had eliminated the pack that had been encroaching on their territory in one fell swoop.
Cú had chosen his mate: a human convert who’d inherited their rivals’ land the day she was bitten. A human who they just so happened to owe a great debt for getting them through last year’s winter.
As Cú’s beastly eyes stared her down, Scáthach had to admit... her bratty pup finally had her at a total loss. She couldn’t be mad about anything, couldn’t even nitpick at the tiny size of his chosen queen or her tar-coat brother. Gosh, Fionn was gonna get a lotta kicks outta this.
“Names,” the she-wolf demanded, circling the twins while Cú gave her a shit-eating grin. Then, she turned, looking back just once to signal for them to follow.
Side by side, the new wolves and the alpha made their way into the central den. Arthur was immediately swarmed by Cú’s brothers. Arturia, by Ferdiad’s pups.
Later, when all had settled back into human skin and a fresh change of clothes, Cú looked about his pack. Fergus and Medb had come to visit, with all sorts of food in tow. Diarmuid excitedly showed Arthur around the wolf den while Fionn and Scathach kept to their own corner. Ferdiad and his litter sat right in front of the brick oven, eagerly awaiting the shepherd’s pie the twins had prepared.
The alpha leaned down, resting his cheek atop Arturia’s blonde head.
“We never did get to go on that date,” she whispered lightheartedly, leaning her head onto his chest. “I even had a dress prepared.”
“Mmmmm that so?” Cú shot back, grinning, “I just think since we are “mated” we really ought to get to mating if ya know what I—”
Arturia’s palm snapped onto his lips before he could complete the thought. Suddenly, they were wrestling each other to the floor, the older wolf chuckling like a madman all the while.
“Kidding—ooofghmhm--kidding, Arturia, I’m kidding, jeez,” he managed to get out, placating his blushing mate as he grabbed onto her hands. The Welsh woman panted, from her seat atop him, her green eyes looking everywhere else but into his red orbs.
“Eight tomorrow?” Arturia asked, though she knew full well Cú was coming home with her that day.
Not even caring about the teasing whoops resounding through the wolf den, Cú pulled his mate down for another hug.
“Yeah. I’d like that, shortie.”

Reaction to Ghost of The Shadow Market by Cassandra Clare
At first, I wasn’t too excited to read Ghosts of the Shadow Market, which is why it took me so long to read it. I just couldn’t bring myself to read it. But I was surprised, although not all the stories marked my attention the majority of them did. No going to lie Cecil Montclaire I was not excited to read about, but I stan now.
Cast Long Shadow:
● I had liked Matthew from the first time we meet him in Nothing but Shadows and I had heard the rumour that he was Gideon’s bastard, which in my mind the only way that happened is if both Henry and Charlotte knew they wouldn’t be able to have more children and were willing to try other ways. I did not, however, envision that he would go that far to have answers.
● I loooooooooove Jem.
o I was so happy to see him being protective of his friends’ children.
● Matthew, unlike our other heroes, is extremely naïve when it comes to the hate downworlders have towards Nephilim or at least that is the impression I got. Especially for the time, he lives in, which is still only about a decade after the Accords are put in place. It kills me though to have seen his innocence killed the way it was, trusting the wrong faerie.
o Also, that old fairy can take her potion and drink it. I did not, however, realize how important she was. Which is what I love in the end about this book, how the plot in every story is linked.
Every Exquisite Thing:
● This was definitely the hardest one for me to read, maybe because the character of Anna that we were being given was so different from what we knew about her. She had none of the confidence and swagger we had heard or seen before.
● However, I loved Cecily and Gabriel in this one, maybe more than I ever had. Mostly because we get to see them as adults and how supportive they are of their children: Christopher likes to blow stuff up? let’s help him, as long as it’s not our house he blows up; our daughter is a lesbian who wants to look good in pants Gabriel and Cecily argue over what colour of pants would look better on her.
o Although I liked Ariadne, and can understand her point of view, I am happy that Anna refuses to hide who she is and simply marry a man that will try and understand her.
● I can’t help but wonder however what happened to these Lightwoods, rebellious and accepting to turn them into Robert Lightwood and his parents.
● Now about the bigger plot, it did intrigue me that we at this point know more than Jem about what he is looking for, but still know very little in actuality. We don’t know much about Kit’s mother or his ancestor.
● Overall, this one had very little to do with the First Heir storyline and we instead find Jem chasing Tessa’s mysterious father, which probably means said demonic father will be important to the Last Hour storyline. But this is just a guess.
Learn about Loss:
● I think the title has a bit to do with the fact we find out about the lost Herondale and the first Heir that were, at that time using, the last name Loss.
o Might also have to do with Jem coming to terms with Will’s imminent death.
● Looooooved Sister Emilia and I hope we see her again, maybe her meeting Jem with Tessa and little Mia and Kit. But I just want to see how badass she became.
● I hate that Will is close to death and Jem can’t be with him like he wants, although I knew he would eventually die, I am firmly staying in denial.
● That last scene of them together was beautiful though.
● Overall, this is when we are really introduced to The First Heir plot before Jem was chasing for Tessa’s father, but now he starts looking for the lost Herondales. This one and Deeper love is kind of an ending the the ID and LH Crew.
A Deeper Love
● Jem and Tessa!!!!!! Together!!!!!
o But also mourning Will which makes me sad.
● This story is maybe a couple of years after Will’s death, Tessa is trying to move on, but can’t stay in London and watch the rest of her family die, so she enlists.
● Tessa and Catarina getting to have a friendship and help people at the same time is awesome.
● Jem is reckless and gets hurt, but then we get to see him and Tessa, so it is worth it.
● Jem knowing, he can’t be with Tessa right now is heartbreaking, but true.
● Jem and Tessa find out the story about the Lost Herondales from Catarina.
● Overall, I am going, to be honest, this one I did not really like, maybe because it is just after Will’s death, I don’t really know why. But it is kind of a transition from Will and Tessa as a couple to Jem and Tessa.
The Wicked Ones:
● First Off, this is the first one where we read about Jem not understanding feelings or remembering them and it gutted me.
● Meeting Céline was beautiful. I had never had a good opinion of her before and finally getting inside her head was worth it. I apologize for never giving her a second thought before, she is such a strong and sad person who deserved the world, who deserved finding someone who would have loved her, and I saw some of Jace in her. Their absolute love and bad sense of morals, their weakness for a place to belong and their empathy towards downwolders.
o Good riddance with her parents.
● The way Valentine manipulated her and used her is sickening. Far more than with any of the others.
● Stephen Herondale how are you a descendant of Will and James??????!!??!?!?!?!?
● Meeting Rosemary was… enlightening. She loved fiercely, her distrust of shadowhunters is understandable.
o She is definitely not someone I would want to cross.
● Overall, I loved this one, more than the ones before. Meeting Céline and Rosemary, two women willing to do evil for their love is a beautiful parallel. Two strong women who were almost saved, but eventually chose love over anything. It is even more heartbreaking by Jem trying to remember the feeling because he had it once.
Son of the Dawn:
● This is really the story where we only see Brother Zachariah at the beginning, until the institute where we finally see Jem surface. We really get to see how being a silent brother is killing Jem.
● Raphael and Lily are awesome and deserved better.
o I didn’t realize how much I miss Raphael and him refusing to admit to having friendships.
o I wish I had Lily Chen’s ability to come up with nicknames, which is a superpower.
● Yin fen…. How is that shit still around??? Why hasn’t someone destroyed it???? You have to have no morals to sell that shit.
● Baby Lightwoods!!!!!!!!!
o The fact 12-year-old Alec had a crush on Raphael is awesome.
o Baby Max is adorable and so beautiful
o Little Isabelle is as fierce as her older self.
o Tiny Jace deciding on his parabatai the moment he saw him makes me happy.
● I love the fact that Jace was able to remind Jem of Will and Tessa, bring him back from the emotionless state of the Silent Brothers.
● Suddenly my dislike of Robert and Maryse returned. The way they spoke to Raphael is disgusting.
● Overall the story is not that important to the plot of the First Heir and Kit, but it does give us an insight into Jem having to fight to remain human and remember why he became a Silent Brother, to in the end be saved. We also get to see the old crew (minus Simon, Clary, and Magnus) as they were still innocent children.
The Land I Lost:
● I loved this story, mostly because we get the Lightwood-Banes, and Alec being the badass he is.
● Lily Chen is a hilarious and beautiful person and I sooooo wish we had seen more of her during the Mortal Instruments and can’t wait to see more of her in Wicked Power and The Eldest Curse.
o Alec and Lily’s friendship is wholesome and deserves more pages honestly.
o Alec understanding, he has privileges and using it was awesome.
o The fact that Lily totally knew Alec once has a crush on Raphael.
o I think that almost every downwolder has one Nephilim that makes them see Shadowhunters in a different light. For Magnus there was Will, Tessa had the London Institute, Kieran had Cristina, Gwyn had Diana, and Lily has Alec (and kind of Cordelia Carstairs).
● Feral Rafael!!!!!!!
● The fact Alec did not realize he had adopted Rafael warms my heart
● Max being soooooo happy to have a sibling filled my heart.
● Magnus having his moment with Rafael where he just knew, the same way Alec did with Max.
o I do like the parallel with both.
● We finally learn about the old Faerie that gave Matthew the potion that hurts his mother and let me tell you: she can cram her Herondale-anger down her throat and choke on it.
● Jem and Tessa!!!!!! Finally, happy!!!!!!
● Juliette is a queen and not just of the Shadow Market.
● I really love how the storylines and the books are converging more and more. With Juliette and her daughter from the Eldest Curse, Mother Hawthorn and Kit’s storyline.
● Overall, I loved this story not only because we had Alec and Jem with Tessa, but mostly because we get to really see Alec as the man that would move heaven and hell to make the world a better place for his family.
Through Blood, Through Fire:
● This one was not that interesting other than for the details we got about Rosemary since it centers on a story that we already know the ending too. We simply get the final details of Kit’s background.
● As a character I loved Rosemary, someone who would do anything to be free and at the same time would lock herself up for her son. If only Johnny/Jack could have loved his son as much.
● Getting Rosemary’s backstory does let us understand her distrust of shadowhunters and how much she loved Johnny/Jack.
● Overall, we finally get the last bits of detail of the First Heir storyline.
The Lost World:
● Baby Mia.
o I really just want to talk about baby Mia, but other than her almost getting possessed, she is not really the focus of this novel.
● Livy, I fear will become a problem in the future, I feel like she might lose control at some important moment, but that just might be me being negative.
● I really want to know what the Dimmet Tarn is and what it can do.
o I can’t help but think it’s some kind of passage to the afterlife and that’s why Livy is going towards it.
● I already love Irene and can’t wait to see more of her in the future. The fact that she can feel ghosts and other creatures will be useful.
● Poor Ty, I feel like he is trying really hard to punish himself and he can’t understand the emotions he is feeling, so he is just assuming he did something wrong.
● Idris News: I honestly thought that locking themselves up in Idris was the stupidest thing the Cohort had ever done. They can’t hunt demons; they can’t get imports of food and they are totally cut off from the world. How exactly are they going to survive??? The fact they actually have a plan and want to wreak havoc makes sense, but I feel like they are still outnumbered and outgunned.
● Good to see Magnus being the most adult adult.
● Overall, I liked this one, didn’t love it, but it was nice to see the characters. I feel like some points here will be important in Wicked Powers, like the Idris’ News and Dimmet Tarn. Also, Mia.
Forever Fallen:
● Probably the one I was the most excited about reading other than the Land I Lost.
● I love the idea of Thule and the characters having to be brought into the canon universe to fight Janus.
o I can’t wait to see Thule Simon. I mean this is a Simon who has pretty much lost everything and is trying to kill someone who could have once been his friend.
● The fact we got to see a day in the park for the Lightwood-Banes was probably my favourite part.
● I got scared when Max was talking to Janus.
● I feel like Lily Chen and her deal with Janus is going to end horribly, I want to think she is smarter than that, she was taught by Raphael after all, but love makes idiots of us all. So, there might be a plan there, but I am not sure.
● The way Janus thinks reminded me of when the group was shown their deepest desires but twisted when they went to Eden. He lost everything and more than anything wants to protect those he considers family but isn't capable of understanding emotions anymore or morals.
● The Carstairs-Gray household is wholesome and loving and I adore them.
o The fact Kit finally has parents that love and support him.
o I love how much Jem and Tessa consider Kit their son.
o Mia and Kit!!!!!!!!!!!!
● However, I do feel like the ending was ominous towards the fact the Kit will eventually have to become or do something because of being the descendant of the first heir. They said he wasn’t an heir technically, but he did throw the Riders across a field in QOAAD, therefore I think he has more power then they imagine but it's locked inside of him.
● Overall, I loved it, it leaves us wanting more of the MI and AD crew, for which we will have to wait and foreshadow that the First Heir storyline will be important to Wicked Powers. I love the way it ties the plot of the entire book, which was finding and protecting the First Heir into Jem and Tessa finally getting their happy ending with their two beautiful children.
Overall:
I love pretty much anything Cassandra Clare writes especially in the Shadowhunter world. I would recommend this book, mostly because it ties into the storyline we will be reading in Wicked Powers and gives us an insight into Matthew and Anna, as well as the fact that Tessa’s demonic father will be important.
It is a nice between while we read The Last Hour series and wait for the Wicked Powers.
In cases like this series you pretty much have to read all the books, because sometimes there are small details that are important to the whole storyline in every book and novel, however, individually I would recommend:
● The Wicked Ones:
● The Land I Lost
● Forever Fallen.
For the Last Hour Storyline:
● Cast Long Shadows
● Every Exquisite Thing
For the First Heir Storyline (The reason I separate this one from Wicked Powers is that it doesn’t foreshadow anything about the storyline it just explains the First Heir, but the First Heir will probably be important to the Wicked Powers Storyline):
● Learn about Loss
● A Deeper Love
● Wicked One
● The Land I lost
● Through Blood, Through Fire
The Wicked Powers Storyline:
● The Lost World
● Forever Fallen

La Huerta
“I’m worried about him, Aleister,” Grace said as she stepped beside her boyfriend. The two looked over to see Lucas meticulously pouring over data in an effort to verify his calculations for the Power Core alterations. “He’s been so focused the past three days and has barely spent any time with his friends.”
Aleister respected the drive. He didn’t understand Grace’s concern at all. Seeing Lucas’ determination reminded Aleister of himself. “I don’t see a problem Grace. He’s a hard worker and on a mission.”
“And he’s completely suppressing that he’s hurting inside. How can you not see it?” Grace watched Aleister stare at her blankly with a shrug. Her boyfriend may be intelligent, but when it came to picking up emotional cues, he was severely lacking in knowledge. “I’m gonna go talk to him.”
“Okay love.” Aleister knew better than to protest Grace when it came to these things. She had much more emotional depth than him.
Grace pulled up the stool beside Lucas as he ran his fingers through his uncharacteriscally unkempt hair. She was sure the frustration of the task before him felt insurmountable because of his unexpressed feelings. “You should take a break Lucas.”
“I can’t Grace. I’ve gotta figure this out.”
Her heart went out to him. Lucas was hurting and Grace could see it plain as day. Sure, he could try to bury himself in work and solving this problem to get the Power Core to calibrate properly, but she knew that until Lucas actually dealt with his pain that progress would come to a grinding halt. “Lucas?” Grace placed a comforting hand over the young man’s own hand. His eyes met hers. “Talk to me.”
Everything about Grace Hall was trustworthy and Lucas knew it with every fiber of his being. That’s all it took for him to let the flood gates open. “He doesn’t love me,” Lucas sobbed as he wrapped his arms around Grace and buried his head into her shoulder. Despite not having any children yet, Grace’s maternal instincts kicked into gear. She pat Lucas’ shoulder and gently caressed the back of his head as he sobbed into the softness of her orange sweater. “I waited too long to tell him how I felt.”
Grace gently rubbed Lucas’ back in soothing circles. “I’m sorry. I know it’s hard when you have such intense feelings for someone, but they don’t feel the same way.” She really did. Grace instantly recalled the one summer in college that she spent in London visiting her mom, when she developed a crush on the one intern in her mom’s office. Paolo was cute beyond her wildest imagination, but his ambitions left little room for him to have feelings for anyone other than himself. It took some time for Grace to deal with her pain, but eventually she began to heal. “You might not think it now, but it will get better. One day you will find someone that loves everything about the man you are inside and out.”
Lucas stepped back from the woman comforting him and nodded his appreciation for her assurances. “Thank you Grace. You’re right. I know you’re right. I just wish I had actually told Dan my feelings instead of making up a lie, but I saw how he looks at your friend and I knew I didn’t have a chance. Dan looks at Jake with the same passion and desire that I have when I look at him. And I think Jake might see that too.”
While Grace had a feeling that Lucas was crushing hard on Dan, the revelation that Dan had feelings for Jake came as quite a surprise. At some point, Grace knew she would have to have a conversation with her friend. Everyone was here for Jake so they could help bring Taylor home and Grace needed to know that his heart was all there. If what Jake had told them upon arriving back to the island was true; that everyone’s love is what kept Taylor from fading from existence, then Grace needed to know if he was having any doubts whatsoever. “Go rest up for a little Lucas. It’ll help you clear your head. You can come back fresh later to tackle the Power Core calibration.”
As soon as Lucas left for his room, Grace excused herself from the lab, intent on finding her pilot friend.
___
Jake stretched his arms in the air before folding them behind his head as he sat on one of the elongated poolside lounge chairs. He never imagined that he’d be relaxing at The Celestial once again, soaking up the sun’s warm rays, but that’s exactly what he’d been doing for the last few days while the brain trust toiled away in the laboratory. He certainly preferred being poolside compared to being stuck indoors. Jake enjoyed the energy soaking into his skin, hoping it would give him a much needed tan. He watched the others, in various groups, frolicking in the water or conversing at the tiki-style bar, while he just sat back enjoying some alone time.
“He’s quite fetching, isn’t he?” An all too familiar voice asked.
The shaggy haired pilot turned his haze, arms still folded behind his head, to see the most unexpected sight. “B-B-Boy Scout?” He stammered.
Taylor looked at Jake with a playful smile before nodding his head in the direction of the pool towards the subject of his question. Jake’s gaze shifted from his long lost love to the muscular figure extracting himself from the distant side of the pool. Dan’s back muscles flexed as he hoisted himself up. The water rolled down his body, highlighting every definition Sexy Mop Top earned from hard work in the gym. Jake’s eyes instantly traveled to Dan’s tapered waist and, once again, fixated on the lower back dimples situated just above his round bottom.
Forcing himself to break his objectification, Jake turned back to Taylor. “How are you here? We haven’t performed...”
“I’m always here Jake. With you. I’ve never left.”
“But you did Taylor,” Jake challenged. He dropped his hands to his lap and turned to face his husband. Sure, it was an unofficial hand-fasting, but that didn’t make it any less real to Jake. Taylor was his soulmate. The first person to capture his heart and make him want to be a better man. Jake blinked several times fighting back the tears he felt forming. “You left me alone. You made the decision to sacrifice yourself to save us all, but we never really got to talk about it first. One minute you’re with me and the next...” Jake’s voice cracked and he trailed off unable to finish his thought. He lost the battle with the tears as a steady stream rolled down his cheeks.
Taylor reached over and cupped Jake’s face in his hands. He gently ran his thumb across his sobbing husband’s cheek while turning Jake’s face up to look into the pilot’s blue eyes. “If I did Hotness, I never would’ve had the courage to go through with it. I couldn’t stay and let the world burn around us. Rourke had to be stopped. In time, I knew you’d find room in your heart to love again.” Taylor softly turned Jake’s face towards where Dan was sitting and laughing with his friends. “I know you’re feeling something for him Jake. It’s okay. If for some reason this plan with The Sisters doesn’t work; I want you to be happy.”
For a few moments, all Jake could do was look at Dan while pressing his face to Taylor’s palm. “How can I...” Jake began to say turning to face his love, but he was no longer there. “Taylor?” Jake looked around the pool area frantically, but Taylor was nowhere in sight.
Jake opened his eyes to find himself still outstretched and lounging poolside. His hands were still laced behind his head and he realized that he must have dozed off. Jake saw that the others were still enjoying themselves in the pool area. Stacy sat atop Ava’s shoulders in the pool, battling Cade who was perched upon Varyn’s shoulders. Dan sat on the pool’s edge with his feet in the water beside Sean and Craig, the latter of which was animatedly miming football moves during conversation. Michelle sat under a canopied table sipping drinks with Carissa, Abby, and Scarlett, while Raj stood behind a nearby grill, no doubt whipping up something delicious. Meanwhile, Estella and Zahra practiced grappling moves on the nearby beach.
It must have been a dream, but it felt so real, so vivid. Jake turned his head and was immediately startled to see Diego sitting on the lounger beside him just staring. “Jesus Short Stuff. You scared me. How long have you been sitting there?”
“Long enough to see that something bothered you in your sleep. Wanna talk about it?” Diego placed a comforting hand on Jake’s leg.
“It’s nothing Diego. Just... just go back and have fun with the others.” Jake quickly got up from his seat, not wanting to discuss his feelings. He appreciated Diego’s concern, but Jake just needed some alone time. “I’ll catch you later,” he said before walking off towards The Celestial lobby.
From across the pool area, Dan noticed Jake depart, appearing to be upset. He excused himself from Craig and Sean and the football conversation they were having; quickly jogging toward the hotel.
___
The lobby was empty, as was the bar. Jake wasn’t in The Celestial’s massive fitness center either. Rounding a corner into another long corridor, Dan finally spotted his friend through the windows of the grand hotel’s large game room. He watched as Jake’s shirtless form stretched while rolling billiard balls by hand across the velvet table rather forcefully. Dan couldn’t help involuntarily hitching his breath as his eyes roamed over the pilot’s attractive body. Dan leaned his strong frame against the doorway as he folded his arms across his bare chest. “Hey,” he said lowly, finally exhaling that held breath.
“Hey Dan,” Jake replied without looking up from the pool table. He rolled another billiard ball across the table, sinking it into a corner pocket. “You didn’t have to come find me. I’ll be fine. You can go back and have fun with the others.”
“You’re not fine now though Jake. You didn’t even call me by my nickname.”
Jake glanced up to see his new friend smiling from ear-to-ear. He wanted to be angry, but how could he be when Dan was standing right there looking so damn adorable? Although he tried to fight it, Jake felt the corners of his mouth curl upwards ever so slightly. And he was pretty sure Dan noticed. “Why’d you come looking for me?”
“I can’t sit back and watch someone I care about struggle to cope,” Dan replied. He ran a hand through his slightly damp hair; still wet from his earlier dip in the outdoor pool.
Jake slowly made his way towards where Dan was standing. He got within inches of the younger, taller man who made him have conflicting feelings inside. “Why do you care about me? We barely know each other,” Jake whispered, his hot breath rippling across Dan’s neck causing goose bumps.
“I... uh... I...” Dan swallowed hard causing his Adam’s apple to bob in his throat. He was unable to find the words to express how he felt, but that didn’t stop his body from giving away his lust for the pilot. Dan felt his manhood grow, pressing tightly against the waterproof fabric of his swim trunks as it yearned to be set free. He could practically feel the almost invisible tiny hairs on Jake’s pecs tickling his own smooth, bare chest as he finally found words. “I don’t know why exactly. Something inside me just feels drawn to you. I know it’s wrong. We’re here to get Taylor back, but I don’t know how to make a feeling stop.”
“I’m confused too,” Jake replied. He gently brushed a stray lock of hair from Dan’s forehead before drawing the back of his fingers down the young man’s cheek. Jake brought his lips dangerously close to Dan’s, desperately wanting a taste. “If this were any other time, I’d be bending you over that pool table Sexy Mop Top.” Jake’s finger traveled slowly down Dan’s neck to the muscular divide of his chest eliciting a slight gasp. And then he took a small step back. “But Taylor has my heart. I’m a different man because of him. I’ve waited for him to come back to me and I have to believe he will return.” Jake pulled Dan’s forehead to his own. “I’m sorry.”
The two men stood together, forehead-to-forehead, for a few moments before Dan finally retreated. “You have nothing to be sorry about Jake. I completely understand.” Dan ran his palms down the front of his swim trunks and took a deep breath to regain his composure. While he was disappointed, he also knew chances with Jake were a long shot. “Taylor is a lucky guy and we’re gonna get him back Jake.” Dan gave Jake’s shoulder a comforting squeeze before he exchanged one final nod with the shaggy haired pilot and turned on his heel back towards the pool area.
Standing around the corner, Grace had heard everything. “So Lucas was right. Dan does have feelings for you.” Grace said as she made her presence known after Dan’s departure and approached Jake in the game room doorway. “And you have some feelings for him too?”
Jake was stunned to see Grace appear. “It’s not like that...”
“Just listen Jake,” Grace said raising her hand and cutting him off. “I heard what you said. You really need to be sure, without a scintilla of doubt that Taylor is the one. Everyone is here because we know what losing him meant to you, but if you’re not sure...”
The pilot placed both of his hands onto his friend’s shoulders. “Grace. I’m sure. For a moment my mind tried to tell me that Taylor would want me to find happiness with someone else, but when I saw Dan up here, I realized that it was just my fear that this plan might not work causing me to have doubts. In that moment, I knew I had to stop thinking that way. You all came here and had faith in me and supported me. It’s time that I have that same faith. I love Taylor and I know he will be back.”
Grace wiped the single tear from her cheek, content that Jake’s words were true. She wrapped her arms around his bare torso. “Good cuz if you said something else I would have hurt you.”
The two friends shared a laugh as Grace linked an arm into Jake’s elbow, about to walk towards the lobby when Aleister came running down the hallway.
“Oh good! I found you both,” Aleister panted breathlessly. “I’ve got it. I found the error that Lucas mentioned. I’ll have the Power Core fully recalibrated tonight and we can finally perform the ritual tomorrow.”

consciousness streaming ! (i love saying this it just makes everything sound more dramatic, like it's out of a medieval times movie idk)
but anyway, i have finished reading inffqth
and altho im not crying anymore, i did cry through like, chapters, 10 to 12, maybe more in 11 and 12, but specially 11
i said this dream was beautiful, and i still mean it, probs even more now that i saw him completely, i have like, a list with my favorite dream's in fanfics and urs just kicked everybody to be number one
this george too,,, god how much i wanted to fight him, at some point i said out loud how i was gonna take that "stupid" box of feeling and throw it on a river so he finally opens up, but honestly, i probs got mad at him bcs he was taking decisions i would have also taken
when he was talking abt how he was too much and nobody wanted that, i was like "ok well no need to attack me like that"
but im so happy they got to solve it in a non tiring way? like usually the communication just goes the wrong way or never happens and it gets so frustrating, like just TALK alr pls
+ very random but when this scene happened
—"George," Dad says with a nod.
—"Dad," he says back, "Drive safe." Another nod,
LISTEN I, i wanted to be petty, i wanted george to say "Jim." just out of spite, ik it doesn't change a lot but in my way of seeing it it would have been funny but petty iguess
i have like, many more screenshots of the story, since i cant ever reread a whole fic cus i hate knowing what's gonna happen, but at the same time i love rereading bits of it so pictures it is, kinda sad i can't like, send them here all marked up like they do with printed-out books, i like doing that a lot
ALSO, gotta give the biggest kudo's trophy to kate, even though she was the one making me cry cus jfc why is she such a nice and healthy mom, she was so understanding and caring and god, building her a pedestal, she deserves it
i think ur way of writing a parent k worded me, reading kate just suddenly made me think of these exact dream and george as parents and my brain shut down, i really thought "god a kid fic of scoops would totally destroy me" (i am very weak for kid fics, have a soft spot for them)
now i am probably gonna read iwywah, (cus i realized ive read everything else of urs thats dnf and that's the only fic left) and ill probs cry again, who knows,
scoops just really going for that "makes readers cry" trophy smh /lh
anyway, again, thank u for writing this
also saw that u mentioned u have a friend that's like this dream and im so happy for u!! u seem to be deserving of lots of nice things, sending love to u guys :] <3
I almost forgot to answer you because i was just staring in wonder at this ask--I love it!
Chapter 11 was a doozy, don't blame you for crying there. lots of growth and realizations and decisions. I'm so glad you still love my Dream. As for George here, I'll admit, he's hard to love for a while, but that's mostly because I see myself in him so much (like you said, same decisions I would make) and I want to bang his head against a wall (or in this case, his mother).
The thing about his dad in this fic-- like chapter 11 got completely re-written because it disappear on me, yeah? well, the original chapter dealt way more with his dad. George and Neve go straight to Brighton first instead of London to Kate, and George has an awkward encounter with the new lady friend where we realize, she's just a woman and just as messed up about all this as everyone else and it really humanized his dad and the whole situation but when is got deleted, I was like okay this is a sign. This story is not about George's family that much, like it's about Dream and George getting together and this is a fun side trip and sheds more light on things, but at the end of the day, we didn't need that light.
I think it's so cute you screenshot your favorite parts! My friend (the dream friend) does this and every once in awhile will send me an unhinged screenshot from a fandom im not in and it takes me out.
I love Kate in this fic, she's my fave. I'm proud of how she turned out and how real she seems. Definitely not perfect (in the epilogue where she tells everyone but george about the guy she's dating--proof that it's harder to change than we realize, but she apologizes to george and makes it right), but the kind of adult I want to be as I age--not afraid of life but living it. I guess I did some projecting there.
If I ever write a kid fic, I will count on your kudos, lol. I've thought about a non-traditional one but I'm not ready to commit yet.
Let me know how you like "Accomplice" I uh think you're going to have some more family feels in that one. I think i have themes I like to explore.
Thank you for your beautiful message--sending you all the positive vibes and good things <3

The Teleprompter Interview: The Capture Cast Feels Strongly About Their TV Crushes
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
The Capture is fundamentally a show about screens. Screens are the first things viewers see as the series heads behind the scenes at a CCTV control center where workers remotely take in something horrific happening on the streets of London.
Those same CCTV cameras and the screens they broadcast to are ever-present throughout the show’s six episodes, which tell the story of U.K. Special Forces Lance Corporal Shaun Emery (Callum Turner) who was failed by video surveillance technology once before and may be on the verge of being failed by it once again. The Capture wrapped up its compelling run in October of last year on BBC One. Now it’s set to thrill American audiences when it is included with new NBCUniversal streaming service Peacock at launch.
Given The Capture’s preoccupation with screens, four of the show’s stars spoke with Den of Geek about their own respective relationships with television. As part of our ongoing Teleprompter interview series, Callum Turner (Shaun Emery), Holliday Grainger (DI Rachel Carey), Ben Miles (Commander Danny Hart), and Laura Haddock (Hannah Roberts) discussed their latest TV obsessions and more…
DEN OF GEEK: Which TV show have you never seen that everyone keeps nagging you to watch?
CALLUM TURNER: Can I say what I have just seen? I just watched The Sopranos after years and years of people telling me to.
HOLLIDAY GRAINGER: I haven’t watched The Sopranos. I tried to watch it after watching The Wire and unfortunately it felt really, really soapy. I’ve never watched Green Wing and everyone really goes on about that.
Which TV show would you bring back from the dead if you could?
CT: I wanna say The Office – the U.K. version. But I know that Ricky Gervais only ever wanted two seasons. So I don’t want to go against his wishes.
HG: The Wire! I’m thinking about rewatching it. I’d love to see more now.
Which TV show do you wish more people would watch?
HG: One of my favorite shows that I feel not enough people have heard of is Better Things. It’s so good. It’s so funny and it’s so real. It makes me cry and laugh at the same time. I just get through the seasons far too fast.
Which TV show has given you nightmares?
BEN MILES: Yeah, I’ve watched Save Me, the show that Lennie James wrote and starred in for Sky. And that gave me nightmares. It’s such a disturbing show, such a brilliant show, but it’s such a disturbing subject matter. That gave me dreams about all sorts of violence.
LAURA HADDOCK: Some Black Mirror episodes have given me nightmares. You don’t want to go to sleep. I would really appreciate it if all my friends could come around right now and have a sleepover, because I’m going to stay awake until 5:00 A.M. then try and grab an hour.
When did you last cry watching television?
LH: I watched 13th and I cried my eyes out the other day.
BM: Yeah, that was bad. The last time I cried was watching When They See Us Again, that documentary about the Netflix show When They See Us. It was the show that Oprah Winfrey hosted, where they had the actual Exonerated 5 on, and the cast and producers of the show of When They See Us. That was powerful.
When did you last laugh out loud watching television?
LH: I’ve been watching Dead to Me and some of Christina Applegate’s little side notes that she does are just hilarious, and I was laughing out loud at some of those.
BM: I’ve been sort of laughing in despair, actually, disbelief at our daily press briefings by this government about what’s been going on, about how they’re handling COVID, and how they’re handling the lockdown.
What or who was your first TV love?
BM: Wow! Instantly, into my mind jumps (Catherine) Bach as Daisy Duke in The Dukes of Hazzard. I think she would be a tough one to knock off the top.
LH: So, my first love, as in, “Oh, I want to be her,” was Hayley Mills in Pollyanna, playing Pollyanna. I just adored her and looked up to her.
CT: I used to love this show called Brum when I was a kid. It was about a car. That was my favorite. That was my first TV love. It was a car that would drive and save people.
HG: I guess when I was a kid, my favorite TV show was Rupert the Bear. There was this one character in it and I just couldn’t stop watching that. It was like that episode I watched on repeat. He was called Raggety, and he was made out sticks and he was a nymph of the spring. He was kind of like Gollum-y character. I found him totally fascinating.
The Capture will be available to stream on Peacock on Wednesday, July 15.
