Her suffering appears even more poignant in contrast with her costume of a fine material decorated with flowers (signed Devi Saha) which evokes an idyllic style and gives the character a certain naivety. The interpretation of the role brings together a good understanding of the text, the character, as well as the beauty of the timbre which is manifested in the expressive and textural richness of the singing. The upper register is powerful and brilliant, controlled even when it breaks through for dramatic reasons. The middle register and the descent to the lower register, where the laments rest, is endowed with a certain majesty that provides weight and rich nuance. Its short lyrical fragments are, however, constantly faded by anguish, to the dark strains of frustration and despair. The transitions between registers emphasize the natural precision and clarity of the singing. The scene of the pomegranate marks the spirits: meeting between erotic and metaphysical crisis, the various nuances of the syncopated song follow one another in imitation of the shivers of pleasure. Looking forward to an awesome 2019-2020 season filled with amazing music in beautiful places! I will be touring with the London Philharmonia Orchestra, conducted by Esa-Pekka Salonen and singing the Lulu Suite in London, Madrid, Paris and Luxembourg! I will also sing my first Madame Silberklang in Mozart’s Der Schauspieldirektor in London with the Philharmonia Orchestra! More Mozart is on the calendar with Pamina at the Vienna Volksoper and Konstanze in a new production at the Grand Théâtre de Genève! I am thrilled to be performing a Liederabend with the incredibly talented @chandavanderhart at the Malmö Opera in October! A very exciting Austrian Premiere of Wolfgang Rihm’s gripping Proserpina is also coming in 2020 with me in the title role directed by the brilliant Rebecca Greenstein with my beloved Neue Oper Wien!
