Some thoughts on "Scott Pilgrim Takes Off", inevitably I must share them

-I was expecting an animated adaptation true to the OG comics (I have never read them, only seen panels online) but I was not entirely surprised by what they ended up doing. Figures they would want to make something new out with a new media form rather than adapt an already-existing story (the comic)

Was not super upset by it. Just kind of, "Oh. Okay." Still was going to watch and enjoy that we got something at all.

-I DO feel like there was something missing. I can't put my finger on it exactly but something was off. On god I cannot figure it out in my own head-- I don't know if it was too quiet sometimes and needed bg music or needed louder and more frequent sound effects, but SOMETHING in the sound department was off.

-The style and animation was beautiful which is why the above^ is such a bummer because it ended up making a lot of the impact moments, not impactful?

-Gideon and Julie ended up being the highlight for me that I didn't even know I needed (Evil love is such a rare treat) I wish we had seen more of them!

-Yes, I wish we could get a Season 2 but know that's not gonna happen, which SUCKS. I don't even care how they do it- if they want to cook up a whole new plot or even just do it self-contained episodic story style. I wanted more, more episodes! I hate Netflix's 8 episode standard.

-There were a handful of lines that actually made me chortle out loud so I've got to hand it to them: "Is he mad?", "I couldn't even get a reservation at McDonald's. They laughed at me when I called." To name a few. I love that dry, Scott Pilgrim-standard level of dumb humor.

-Seeing the bits of Ramona with some of the exes (like Lucas and Roxie) in the past was sweet and I wish we had seen more of that.

-I actually didn't like Todd's arc. Felt hollow, wanted to see more vegan powers in the action, or backstory w/ Ramona

-The music was FANTASTIC. Such a bop. Anamanaguchi does not disappoint

-Assorted random comments: the random Lucas Lee and Gideon friendship was fun, lyrical song choices were great. We got to see much more of the side characters than ever before and I loved that a lot.

-Do I feel like I was baited? A little, but I'm not upset. I think the criticism is blow out of proportion.

Overall good, but yes I think it could have been better. I think something was holding it back from being GREAT. Would like a season 2.
