1. Three non-romantic duos: Chara Alvarado and Noah St. Claire (The Silver Eye), Napoleon Solo and Illya Kuryakin (The Man from U.N.C.L.E., both show and movie), and Ace and the Seventh Doctor (Doctor Who).
2. A ship that might surprise others: After much thought (and much conference with a family member), it might be surprising that I shipped Ronan and Teyla from Stargate: Atlantis despite my general propensity for canon ships?
3. Last song: According to the online radio player, Do They Know it's Christmas by Band Aid 20 (now it's a cover of I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas - WHY COVER IT WITH A GROWN MAN SINGING???).
4. Last Film: The Return of the King (...back in October).
5. Currently reading: As of a minute ago, Fighter Boys by Patrick Bishop (because one page of the preface counts, right?).
6. Currently watching: I'm actually not currently watching any shows.
7. Currently consuming: Roasted butternut squash (I actually had an answer!).
8. Currently craving: Chocolate and tea.
No pressure tags for @lover-of-the-starkindler, @morfinwen, @idratherdreamofjune, @lady-merian, @stingrayextraordinaire, @nerdysk8s, @aceofstars16, @sunheart, and @thatoneweaver, if they think it looks fun.

For the fairy tale retelling: Cap O'Rushes in cyberpunk
Once upon a time, not so very far in the future, a great plague transformed society. People remained isolated in their homes, connecting mostly through vast virtual networks. All movement in the physical world is heavily monitored, and the only place to get a taste of freedom is in the virtual reality environments where the rich spend all of their time.
Our hero--I’m calling him Roy--rarely leaves his apartment. By day, he’s a detective who helps to monitor the city’s vast surveillance network, tracking the movements of all the citizens. By night, he plays in the virtual reality environments and orders food from the city’s delivery-only restaurants. He has a reputation as a great detective, the man people consult to track down the untrackable.
One day, he gets a job from one of the richest oligarchs in the city. The man’s youngest daughter has rebelled against their virtual lifestyle, leaving home to live in meatspace. She has acquired a piece of technology known as a rushcoat that manages to hide her from the cameras and makes her impossible to track via normal means. It’s Roy’s job to use his expert skills to track her down and bring her home.
Roy searches for weeks, using every technological trick in the book, even venturing out of his apartment in moments of desperation, but he can find only the barest signs that this girl even exists. To deal with the strain, he starts to escape more and more often into a fantastical virtual reality game. He may not be able to track down the real life fugitive, but it’s easier to find success as a virtual warrior prince.
To his surprise, the virtual world brings him the first break in his real-life case. The game’s mission brings him to a royal ball, and he meets with a player he’s never seen before--a woman with a stunning avatar, whose glowing costume must have cost a year of his salary.
“I hear you’ve been looking for me,” she says.
She admits she’s the oligarch’s lost daughter, but she had good reasons for running away. She tells the detective how her father’s controlling methods are destroying the city, how the draconian surveillance measures are only in place to serve to increase the power and wealth of his ultra-rich circle of elites. She has been working in the shadows to undermine their system of power, and Roy could ruin it all if he tracks her down.
She shows up the following two nights, each night looking more stunning and sounding more convincing than the last time. By the end of the third night, he’s completely on her side. Despite the dangers to his career, he can’t bring her back to her father. He begs to meet with her in the real world, so he can use his skills to help her in her crusade.
The girl is wary. She doesn’t want to set a meeting place, knowing they could be overheard, and suspicious that he could still show up at a meeting with a squad of her father’s men. Finally, she tells him, “If I decide to track you down, it’ll be on my terms. You’ll know me by my ring.”
She disappears from the game. Weeks go by, and she doesn’t return to the virtual world. He sees no sign of her in all his real-world searching. He tells the oligarch that the case is lost, which destroys his reputation. He resigns himself to his dull life of monitoring surveillance cameras and playing meaningless games in virtual worlds.
One night, he orders food. Same delivery place he usually orders from. Same soup he always gets. But this time, he nearly chokes on something that is most definitely not a piece of meat. It’s a golden ring with a green stone--the same ring the princess wore in the virtual world. The ring that belongs to the oligarch’s daughter.
He races out of his apartment and into the restaurant. He demands to know who made his soup, and once the staff understands that he doesn’t want to sue them, they lead him to a kitchen and introduce him to a nondescript girl in a very strangely-patterned coat. He recognizes her as the oligarch’s daughter, and she admits that she finally decided to trust him. The people in this restaurant are part of the crusade, and she finally wants to let him into the circle.
Thus forms the greatest partnership that the city has ever seen. Soon, the oligarchs are losing power, and people are leaving their virtual paradises to experience the real world for themselves. Roy and the oligarch’s daughter marry and have daughters, and the world eventually rights itself enough that Roy’s wife can reconcile with her deposed father. And everyone, as far as possible, lives happily ever after.

So now that you've seen Final Space, you need to watch Olan Rodger's stories on YouTube (if you haven't already). They're frickin' hilarious.
My level of familiarity with this dude up to this point in my life has been zero, but he’s clearly brilliant.

nerdysk8s replied to your quote “She struggles with [keeping her weight down]… in my work, I never...”
As someone who has studied excercise sports science and aspires to coach someday, my heart just breaks for Julia and the other students this awful woman coaches. The health of an athlete should always come first before "good results" in their sport. Because they may not always be elite figure skaters but they will always carry the physical effects of the sport with them.
I completely agree.

I don't know who you are but you are literally my biggest fan here on Tumblr and that makes me very happy. You are an encouraging ray of sunshine and I thought you should know that. :)
You’re so sweet! Thank you so much.
(I also never expected to become invested in an old-timey Sims love triangle but you’ve officially won me over.)

Remember that one thing I used to do...
So I apologize that I haven’t made YouTube videos in a long time. A REALLY long time. I know some of y’all enjoyed watching my Victorian Sims Let’s Plays with Beth, Thaddeus, and Andrew. I know I really enjoyed making those videos but I had received some negativity from some people close to me that left me really discouraged to the point that I felt like I needed to quit making videos altogether.
That being said, I’ve finally been having a desire to make videos again and was wondering if y’all would be interested in watching. I will warn you the new videos probably won’t be about our favorite Victorian love triangle since I unfortunately lost all my CC during a game update. (You live and learn. Remember to take out your CC when updating, kids.) But I have lots of ideas for new story lines and characters, most involving skating (sorry, not sorry).
So if this sounds like fun, let me know what you think. I would like to maybe try to steam the videos on Twitch this time around.
Thanks for supporting my videos while I had them and I promise I’ll try to be better this time around.

Unusual ask game. Tagged by @nerdysk8s. Thank you!
1. Warm or cool toned colors: Cool
2. Sci-fi/fantasy or realistic fiction: Both, though I’ll skew one direction or the other depending on my mood. (I write entirely sci fi/fantasy, though)
3. How many unread bookmarks on AO3 atm: None. I have very, very rare AO3 interaction.
4. Reptiles or amphibians: You don’t understand how much I love amphibians. Seeing a frog or toad makes my day. The other day, I went out the door and found a big old toad just sitting there and I was so happy to find a friend and then I went a couple more steps and found a little tiny bright green frog and I literally squealed with delight. It was the best day I’d had in a long time.
5. What’s one weird incorrect assumption people say about where you live: The way we talk.
6. Can you read on car trips or no: I used to be completely unable to do it without getting carsick. Now, about half the time I’m able to read on my phone for a while without getting sick.
7. Would you rather live in the woods or by the ocean: The woods. I cannot live without trees.
8. What’s one food that most people like but you can’t stand: I’ll only eat tomato soup as a dip for grilled cheese. There’s one kind of tomato dumpling soup I like, but otherwise, I don’t understand how people can eat a bowl of plain tomato soup.
