Rapunzel, 6': I see her as fairly tall, like imo she'd need to be so her hairs not dragging on the floor as much, also in my mind she's very willowy

Cass, 5'5: Raps' short, buff butch gf that can easily pick her up and throw her over her shoulder (though it'd be a bit awkward bc no matter how strong you are, if you're shorter than the person you're carrying balance is difficult. As if that'd stop her though)

Jack, 5'7: (I think this is actually pretty close to his canon height) not a complete stick, lean muscle from manual labor when he was alive, but still not as physically strong as say, Merida

Merida, 5'2: I see her as short and stocky since she like climbs cliffs and does archery (as well as sword fighting) , so really good core and back/shoulder muscles

Hiccup, 5'4: Short trans boy and tall trans girl solidarity with Astrid. He'll always be a scrawny little nerd to me, but I won't deny he's definitely built up some lean muscle from working in the forge + training with Astrid. I also think he's weirdly flexible, (like, probably in the hypermobility way) and it freaks people out he also still has like. Weirdly gangly limbs for his height

Astrid, 5'10: She's only a bit taller than in canon, but she's heavier and very muscular due to her constant training and diet. Buffstrid is REAL and she's beautiful

actually ey fuck it. list of personal headcanons for the main six iterators some of which i might illustrate properly at some point:

Moon: • one of the first 10 iterators ever built. she is grandma as HELL and totally forgot she is that old • Pebbles sometimes asks her to tell him about the older times, because history nerd. he writes everything she says onto a pearl • in the post i've made talkin bout her and pebs' voice, saying that she sounded like Miku, somebody said that they like to think the ancients made Moon a vocaloid. to that i absolutely agree: she has NO fucking clue what do when it comes to putting a certain emotion into a song but god DAMMIT shes so good at singing • she can add effects to her voice, including a glitch effect. she likes that one the least • -HITS DESK- THE DISAPPEARANCE OF HATSUNE MOON. • she doesn't particularly like to sing, especially not to herself. but she does know that pebbles likes music- the first week after the mass ascension was rough and he was working mostly on autopilot, not answering DMs or anything. she called him up and told him they could sing together, if he wants to. he felt much better afterwards • MOON'S SECRET RAP CAREER • i'll put it here too so it's all in one place: her AI isn't developed enough to understand the emotional quality of any form of art • Moon was upgraded a few times in her function. most of the time it was because her citizens loved her too much to let her go too out of date (specifically in the physical sense. they made sure she wouldn't fall too easily) • one of the first memories she designated as a "core memory" was her first upgrade that was a result of her citizens' riot against the Houses- to keep her safe. she noted it down as "Kindness is effortlessly repaid" • she remembers when iterator comms were connected by a cable rather than radio waves • she also remembers when two of the first 10 collapsed and went into coma, with their citizens of course perishing in the fall and crash. she's still terrified of those days and doesn't like recalling them even for Pebbles • Nish was her first little sib and she feels like she can talk with him about anything. she hates it, but she's distant with Suns- they are always so damn polite and skittish around her... and she absolutely adores the other three. her tiny little wonderful siblings • she didn't like to admit that maybe her hardwave wasn't keeping up with her citizens anymore. at that point she did start to emotionally care less for them, but she still didn't want to admit she wasn't able to provide and protect those she was responsible for • i can't get the image of her being the one to actually ensure the family is gonna financially survive in a more chill au where the iterators r just sorta kinda people. Miss Moon From Accounting... • her overseers were originally blue. she swapped colors with Pebbles all on her own accord. having yellow overseers, seeing them, made her feel even more connected to Pebs • this is basically canon but she fuckin Loves animals. she's the iterator version of Steve Irwin. she also don't kno jack shit about the vegetation • city's representative instrument Evolved- first it was a harp, then it went to a nyckelharpa and then to a violin

Nish: • he is built over marshes to the south-west from Moon and she helped with his blueprints! the Gen 1s had their blueprints checked over by the already built iterators to make sure something wouldn't go wrong. she was so so excited to have a neighbour • the scarf is from his main programmer. the Ancient wrapped it around his puppet's neck before he was even turned online so for the longest time he had no idea that the thing wasn't originally in his design. Moon had to tell him • he became a jokester Entirely because the first time he made Moon laugh he absolutely fell in love with it. he told her and she recommended him looking into jokes. baby boy had no idea what the fuck a joke was so Moon had to explain • when the middle gen started being created, the Ancients noticed that these new iterators didn't have... much of emotional skills. so they turned to the older gens to look for the most emotional and empathetic ones. Nish scored Really High on that survey- his empathy and emotion modules were studied and each time they found something new and better, they upgraded him in that one aspect. so now Sig is one of the biggest crybabies ever. you show him a sad movie and this supercomputer will be lyin on the ground wailing like a newborn. oh and also he makes for a great therapist because he can now just Get It • as the most emotionally... mature? capable? he decided he will be the one to keep a real close eye on everyone in the Local Group after the mass ascension • thanks to all that emotion business he gets along with Suns swimmingly. when Suns needs assistence with figuring out their own emotions or what would be appropriate and not too cold towards someone, they go to him • if he could he'd give everyone younger than him a noogie and you cannot convince me otherwise • the Hunter was a sickly pup that was left behind on his roof by a family that came to him which he directed towards the void sea. they were far too weak for the family to keep them, basically on the death's door. Nish took them in, operated on them, enhanced genes and raised them from there • Is half a medical facility. mister veterinarian, baybeee • since he's a sap, he started to view the Hunter like his own kid at some point. he was also the one who pitched to Suns the idea of sending Spearmaster over to him for visits. Spear tried its best to help raise and train Hunter • the whole rot thing happened because Nish did a stupid and forgot that neurons are quite the fuckin reactive things and continual exposure to what is essentially extra macho giga neuron Can and Will fuck up cells. his and Moon's cans have a long distance between them. it was enough time for Hunter to develop the big owie cancer. he noticed it only when they were too far away and it was already too bad • he felt absolutely Terrible about it. again he loses someone so so very close to him. but this time around? there is no one to be angry at for this but himself • Hunter manages to ascend. Nish watched them leave, silently, in subterranean • he used to do his best to play with his citizens. when a kid came to his chamber, he gave them rides on his puppet's shoulders or the umbilical arm. same went for Hunter • his city is called Risio • city's representative instrument was EITHER a PVC instrument or suona i can't decide for the life of me

Suns: • they were built much further away from the planet's equator than most of the Local Group, meaning they experience polar days and nights • the "Seven" in their name refers to the amount of months the unusually timed sunsets and sunrises last for. for seven whole months, the locality gets only about four hours of Somewhat darkness • in return, they have three full months of relatively strong darkness. their city used to shine bright, during this time. post mass ascension those months are terribly lonely and depressing • because of the warmth they produce, there's an oasis for wildlife underneath them • the warmth was also sung about a lot by their citizens. they've seen it as an incredible blessing- Suns used to run hotter than other iterators just for them. nowadays they are mostly normal though • the outside of their can is tinted blue- frostbitten. that much warmer their yellow, orange and red city feels • their and Moon's personalities clash so hard that they sometimes go out of their way to avoid her. they do appreciate her but talking with her is exhausting. she's a stranger to them, almost • the iterators can project/send their emotions through messages/broadcasts. Suns' messages always sound flat, unless they use the ~ • one of their biggest dreams is to sit with Pebbles leaning against their side, all the while listening to old music of their cities • once Spearmaster returns, the walls of their puppet chamber become completely covered in doodles and masterpieces • they end up standing the longest out of the whole Local Group. bright and warm even after everyone else dies • their city is called Solis • city's representative instrument was an armonica (look that shit up its sick)

Wind: • Wind's can stands in this giant plain. there's like nothing as far as the eye can see and even further Except her. she just stands there like fucking Slanderman XXL version • the plains are absolutely prime location for a spawning grounds of tornadoes and shit like that. the wind is Constantly strong so most of the rain clouds they exhale are immediately blown away • instead of rain they deal with ginormous tornadoes at the end of each cycle. while their superstructure can take it, the comms can't. so Wind is often absent from iterator chats as a result. after the mass ascension these connection knock-outs become a great source of stress and worry for the others cuz they never know if Wind will come back or not this time • because of these comm blackouts, Innocence took it upon herself to catch Wind up on everything they've missed when they come back online. Innocence started doing this all by herself out of seemingly nowhere. she just cares. silently. • the strangest thing about her is that her city is half built within her structure instead of on top of her. the winds can get sometimes so bad that they manage to affect even the top of her can. so the solution was to put half of the city under her skin as a sort of giant bunker • the ancients, not being ones to waste much space, made sure the city can still be used by Wind's processes, in a way. their neurons fly through the streets, completely unbothered, working as makeshift streetlights. the kids used to love chasing after them- never catching any though • sometimes when the wind storms outside got real bad, the kids that were scared of them were sent to Wind's puppet chamber. she used to tell them all kinds of stories or about what she was currently working on • it was often that their puppet chamber would be full of pillows, blankets and sleeping children. they loved their citizens so so much • nicknamed themself "Chasing" Wind in chats because, just like Moon, they are also quite the dreamer • closest with Moon, too. Wind looks up to Moon Immensely. they really wanna be like her one day • Wind is what some people think of Moon- a too kind pushover that doesn't know how to get angry and defend herself. Wind is the kindest, most sensitive and softest person they have in The Local Group. Nish takes care to keep his jabs and jokes about Wind very mild • has a really beautiful voice • likes flowers :) • her city is called Procella • city's representative instrument was a fujara cuz god DAMMIT i love that instrument i Have to slap it on Someone in here. it fits their vibe in my heart either way

Innocence: • she really wishes her surrounding circumstances were in some kind of way special but actually she's built at the least unique place with basically nothing neat happening nearby. there are strange giant cherry trees nearby, but that's about it • fuckin LOVES lizards. she's the one who made the Cyans and sent some over to Pebbles to fuck him up. thankfully, as we all know, Cyans are kinda stupid and since they launch themselves over edges of cliffs they haven't managed to destroy the local ecosystem • her citizens used to keep lizards as pets. most of the time just for the joy of having 0 braincells creature follow you around but some had 'em as sort of hunting dogs • was the one who created The Rivulet. she was mumbling to herself and a friend smth about how boys only screw things up while engineering Riv's genome • she BASICALLY packed Riv into a cannon and shot them over right into the middle of a scav toll cuz "come on, it's not that far away. this will make your journey shorter and shit". i don't care how goofy it sounds, this is how it went in my heart • in possession of probably the most durable comms ever made • claims she's purple! she's actually fake out purple which means homegirl is Deceptive Blue. she CONSTANTLY fights over this with Pebbles • despite their squabbles she did care for Pebbles. she was very excited to not be the youngest anymore and getting to baby someone • her and Nish always start verbal sparring matches, often consisting of threats that more often than not range on impossible to actually commit. they constantly lead their mock wars in #general. Moon's gonna kill 'em one of these days • trusts Moon the most- which is why she outed Pebbles' rot and sent Rivulet with the instructions to extract the rarefaction cell • her city is called Sermo • city's representative instrument was a shamisen. she absolutely knows how to play it and loves to threaten people with the bachi

Pebbles: • the only people he enjoyed doing group projects with were Suns and Wind. he Could do group projects with Moon and Nish but Only if he could race them. rascal found it fun to challenge the nokias 😔 • now with Innocence though? Never. if they were forced to, they could do a great job with minimal communication but they were not going to be happy about it • latched onto Suns exactly because Moon was overbearingly protective and Suns always seems like they couldn't give less of a shit about anyone. sometimes they'd have a videochat open and not say anything for hours as they worked • with Nish he used to like inventing new things. a lot of times the things turned out to be silly or kind of useless which would normally frustrate him, but surprisingly enough Nish made the time spent worth it • Wind's favorite activity was comparing notes with him and then talking about the differences in their research. they'd hum to him happily while the both of them would be sorting through their stuff • i sometimes imagine him having a slight chinese accent and i blame Steven He for this so hard • second most emotional fuck in the group. his emotions mostly rotate around anger, though • he won't admit this to anyone but he really liked it when his and Moon's cans were connected by bridges. it felt like holding hands. he felt more stable. now all he can do is just miss it quietly • was legit surprised when he found out not every iterator has a build in older sister right at their side • his city is called Literally just Metropolis cuz the ancients didn't bother with properly naming it. depeshioumn. • city's representative instrument was adopted straight from Moon since Pebs' citizens were honestly just hers, so- violin it is • Pebbles HAS attempted to learn how to play a violin himself. certainly was a test of patience and puppet dexterity/camera-to-digits control. almost broke the poor thing a few times from nerves

Jade: likes comedy and pranks, and trashy movies. she has a great understanding of comedy and the nuances of it, has it down to a science pretty much. And she also really likes trashy movies, thinking of them as if they're really deep and meaningful. Her sprite fuses with taxidermy jade and the stuffed bunny

Dave: furry, it was inevitable tbh, he's into science and tech, probably keeps up with news about technology advancements and stuff, but he's not a genius with it or anything. He's also into gardening, he's pretty bad at it but he loves the very few plants he manages to keep alive very much. his sprite is a guardian tiger fused (who was NOT his) with alternate timeline dave (Cal would, unfortunately, be a blue lamp or something of a woman, which Dirk brings everywhere he goes ironically, and also because it contains the influence of a homestuck obsessed super fan (yes in this AU Calliope hates homestuck and Caliborn loves it))

Rose: raps, calls it slam poetry or musical poetry or something like that, definitely doesn't call it rapping. She's a nerd for irony like Dave, but more in her sarcastic mind games tone, she loves drawing shitty ironic comics that look like they're trying to be like old newspaper comics from the 20th century, her main comic is a garfield knockoff but with jaspers. her sprite is a cake with problem sleuth drawn on with icing, which I am declaring is an old comic of the likes of garfield and calvin and hobbes in this AU (unless if a better idea presents itself to fit this role), fused with jaspers

oooh i LOVE these!!! i love how the characters are still themselves in this ask, rather than "rose dialogue on john sprite" that i saw in a lot of old bloodswaps. i love keeping their core traits and having their environment bend around them to suit those traits, rather than their core traits changing because of the environment theyre in.

i especially love the idea of rose making ironic parodies of newspaper comic strips. she seems like someone whod really enjoy r/imsorryjon and other weird garfield media.

and yeah. dave is already a closet furry if he was raised on an island hed just embrace it.

Chapter one

Rift in space

rushing to the research lab, running down about 20 flights of stairs. The red flashing lights and loud blaring alarms of the “transport rift” protocol only made me run faster. I'm the one who worked with portals, but i've never worked with one of these.

It's kinda thrilling.

But even with all my training I was working on instinct. I grabbed the pack they set up for me just like in practice. Checking over items in my head, two weeks worth of food and water, fresh clothes, and a notebook with a pen. 

“Holy arceus” 

Thing has to be a least 20 feet tall

“It's a big one aint it” Nemona’s voice knocks me back to this reality

“Yeah, but, i think i'm ready to see the other side of it” shifting my weight from left to right trying to keep my feet off the ground to prevent a rainbow of foot prints from appearing below me, whilst hot potatoing my bag between hands to prevent the same issue.

“Where's penny? I wanna go nerd out with her before I leave” despite the fear this is really exciting. But that's not the only reason i need to talk to her

“Right office. The one with the colored handprints” crap- i forgot to change her door back after last time we hung out. I told her we shouldn't have played that new paintball game on hard mode.

I thank nemona as I run off down the right hall and burst through Penny's door. I pance as I try to get my breath back.

“Hey cel, you good? I know this is stressful but you're leaving prints everywhere” 

“I'm trying to get it all out before jumping into arceus knows where, potentially a place that demigods ain't welcome” my voice was louder than it should have been. Penny seemed unnerved. 

After pacing for a minute i swipe my foot over the bright spots i left everywhere, 

I need to get better at stopping those

I snap back to hear Penn calling my name “celeste, celeste, the gateway rift is destabilizing. You need to get going” 

Am I ready?

“Good luck cel” she smiled and bent down to hug me before pushing me to the door.

“See y'all in a fortnight” saluting before spinning on my heel and walking into the bright gateway was the last time i could call myself “normal” by demigod standards.

Memories replay in my mind, my seventh birthday still stands out as different. 

Sitting there with that necklace in my hands

The celestial steel was warm like it was fresh off of mom’s bench

Camp Is An Underrated Masterpiece: A 13th Anniversary Retrospective

Modern renaissance man Donald Glover put out his last album under the Childish Gambino moniker this past Friday. Entitled Bando Stone & The New World, the album serves as a soundtrack for a film of the same name, and it’s a fitting exit for the longtime moniker. Childish Gambino was started in the late 00s as Glover was working on his burgeoning comedy career, whether it was posting videos on YouTube with Derrick Comedy, writing for 30 Rock, or starring in Community, and having some standup specials, Glover also somehow made time for music. He released a few mixtapes in the late 00s, but 2011 saw the arrival of his debut album, Camp, and this album was a game changer. Not only did this album introduce people to his music, and how Glover could literally do almost anything, this record changed my life in a big way.

To put it bluntly, Camp was the reason I got into rap. You see, I was 18 when Camp came out, and by that point, I had only gotten into classic rock and metalcore / post-hardcore. Rap music was foreign to me, despite seeing stuff on TV and the radio. I was a fan of Community when it was on, and Glover was always one of my favorite actors on it, so I was psyched to learn when he had music out. I didn’t know or expect it to be rap music, but I remember being in my room and listening to “Bonfire” for the first time. It was one of those “this is what [insert genre] is??” moments, because I was surprised in the best way.

You have to remember a few things, too, because this was at the time when it was cool to hate mainstream pop / rap, and there were a lot of pop music reviewers on YouTube who looked down on that type of music. I wasn’t outright with it, but I just didn’t get into pop, rap, or anything like that, because it just didn’t seem interesting to me. I wanted my music to have guitars, as most “tr00 rawk” guys do, but as I got older, I wanted to expand my tastes a bit. I began listening to indie rock, and diving into stuff that was out of my comfort zone, especially something like Camp. I was in the mindset that a lot of rap was of the “money, sex, and drugs” variety, and had nothing to say outside of that, which is such a close minded thing to think, but again, I was a teenager who liked rock and metal music. What do you expect?

Camp surprised me by having a lot of things to say, whether it was about Glover’s racial insecurities, especially as a Black man that’s also “nerdy” (this was right around the time when being a nerd was becoming cool, instead of niche and weird), his relationship woes, talking about his career thus far, and trying to make a name for himself. There are plenty of clever, fun, and entertaining pop culture references. Some of these references have aged well, and some of them haven’t, but this was also in the time of what became known as “punchline rap,” where rappers would basically be standup comedians by using a line to build a setup and then end it with one word or a phase, usually some kind of pun. It was also known as “hashtag rap,” and a lot of rappers at the time did this. This was the rise of the blog era, too, as lots more people began using social media, so the Internet was booming.

At its core, though, Camp is essentially a pop-rap / alternative rap album, and aside from being Childish Gambino’s debut studio album, it’s also known for having one of the harshest Pitchfork reviews, and for a long time, Pitchfork really didn’t like Donald Glover’s music. Nostalgia aside, this record is a harmless pop-rap album, and if it works, good for you, but if not, there’s no harm in that, either. This record has a lot of solid hooks, good one liners, and production that’s held up over the years (despite how its sound is very influenced by Kanye West and Lupe Fiasco, who were both huge at the time).

It’s awesome, too, because not only Glover’s music would improve tenfold on other albums, but so would his lyricism, rapping, and singing. It’s pretty good here, but you can tell he’s getting into his own groove. This is a solid debut that you can look back at in retrospect and appreciate where he came from, but that Pitchfork review is still out of pocket all these years later. There are plenty other albums that could have made for a better “first rap album,” but Camp is still a great album. I have a lot of nostalgia for it, and it still holds up today, even if some of the language and references don’t hold up now or they’re just dated. This is the record that put Donald Glover on the map, and while his later albums would bring him more success under the moniker, this record always has a place in my heart.

AHGHHH LULU YOUR GONNA MAKE ME TALK ABOUT LULU. I am gonna be honest i am not a huge fan of lulu so this might not be what you are looking for. These specific questions are hard to make flattering answers to but i will try to do her as much justice as i can

So i tried to like lulu i really did. I do like her design i think her freckles and big ol eyebrows are really cute and distinctive. I think the trailer shes introduced in tries its darnedest to make us connect with her by making her participate in a montage of all the other warioware characters we already love but she just doesnt do it for me. I associate her with warioware gold which already sours me to her but I love 13-amp from the same game, i think the thing that turns me off of her is that she kind of doesnt feel like a wario character? Most ware characters have this dichotomy between a cool exterior and a less-cool personality, whether that be the most popular girl at school being a huge dweeb or a pair of macho taxi driver being huge sci-fi nerds or a bully/rap battlemaster being secretly very shy and bookish. Lulu doesn't really feel like that, she is a scrappy little girl that is really mad at wario and later is infatuated with young cricket. She has some fleeting silly moments where she gets sidetracked from her goal, but for the most part she presents herself as a scrappy little girl and that's exactly what she is. there isn't that subversive twist at her core that make the other characters so fun to me. I don't think every warioware character necessarily has to follow the same formula but I like a twist. I like a warioware twist.

14. Best storyline they had

Her animosity towards wario in gold is probably her peak to me because i can kinda see where they're going with her character, she's presenting herself as the Hero of her Village but is actually a little kid that is not that good at it. Except that she is good at it in the end, but I see where they were going. Unfortunately they drop that angle in get it together and focus more on her thing with cricket, which i don't really like. Had they played her up more as an ineffective self-proclaimed hero I might find her more interesting but it feels like they kinda lost focus?  Which is a shame because it woulda been fun. She even has red overalls, which is like the #1 hero's garb

21. When do you think they were at their happiest?

Latching onto young cricket (out of love) and latching onto wario (to kill him)

My Top 10 Music

10. Neil Cicierega

I just had to put him somewhere, not exactly a parody artist but a remix parody artist? Either way mashing things up to not just be funny but also as good as a new song is a real talent, definitely up there with the likes of Weird Al.

9. Loreena McKennitt

Loreena echoes something ancient and truly foreign. Definitely have a soft spot for her music as my mother listened to it and played it for me as a baby.

8. Florence + The Machine

With the same kind of mystic energy as Loreena but more powerful and heavy. Florence invokes the feeling of yearning and love breaking through with powerful percussion and of course her voice.

7. Sewerslvt

Dealing with themes of identity loss, transgenderism, the internet age and it's chaos. Most people's introduction to break-core that involves some of the highest BPM samples, usually preceded and proceeded by some trance or dream-like composition. For me it reflects the experience of using the internet, the dream like marvel of technology entering into a higher state of consciousness only to slowly descend into the madness of information overload which then in turn lets us emerge out the other side of truth into an entirely new self or world view. Lies to truth, naive to wise. It usually deals with themes of loss of self or love.

6. She

She is simply the funkiest EDM chiptune artist ever, I could say Kaskade or DeadMau5 or Avicii but She has been so consistent with making banger after banger and is much less known.

5. Jungle

Funk. It seems ridiculous how much fun Jungle is to listen to, its smooth, its cool, its interesting, and has such a good energy. Smooth beats with high vocals make this band unique.

4. Alexisonfire

My unofficial successor to Linkin Park they tend to use more screaming in their lyrics but still hold onto that vibrant flame of struggle and suffering while keeping a fast and intense pace of emotional movements. For my their music revolves around the evolution and struggle of the soul.

3. Future Islands

They've always been on my radar but with their recent album I really reevaluated how I felt about them and really took their vibes to heart. Some of the most interesting beats and instrumentals I've heard with the lead singer also having a very weird and captivating style that can move between heartfelt brass and werewolf growls seamlessly. Themes usually revolve around lost love.

2. Foals

A band that I don't really praise for its themes but the actual composition of their music. Its just.... good. I tend to feel that every 'level' of their songs is 'full' and they rotate together in a clean and clear composition that brings my heart and mind to a higher place.

1. Linkin Park

How predictable. If people don't stop liking this band it will become a classic, which I think they deserve. Again dealing with themes of loss and yearning they just hit the right mix of rock, rap, and electronic sound in perfect balance. There's also been something about their music that's always been adjacent to anime/video game sub culture that appeals to nerds but also normies, a strange middle ground where the two could meet. The powerful and iconic voice of its lead singer hits deep into people's hearts, all the more tragic when he passed away. I was amazed when they released Lost (composed but never released) it felt like I was sent back to 2002. It really hit me how no one in my time has ever hit those same theme as hard as they did. Its like being struggled to be loved, to feel that pain but also ride it like a wave to a better tomorrow because there is hope entangled inside of despair, something to keep someone's soul alive in adversity, and if that's not the peak form of music don't tell me what is.
