Preparations for the “Noon Against Putin” campaign continue. PMC "Wagner" is being re-created in Africa.
You are watching news from the weekly rally at the Russian Embassy in Lisbon. Today is March 9, 14:30.
The murder of Alexei Navalny unsettled many people. Kremlin political strategists are trying to take advantage of this. Every now and then texts appear saying that everything is lost and Putin has won.
In response to our campaign “Silence is not a consent” in support of those who do not give up while remaining in Russia, we received hundreds of similar comments from Kremlin bots. They are trying to create a background that in Russia everyone is for Putin, and those who are against are paid for by the United States. Activists from different countries report attempts to destroy memorials in memory of Alexei. On Thursday, the memorial in Lisbon was also attacked.
But at the same time, we received thousands of likes and tens of thousands of views from you, those who do not give up. Memorials around the world are surrounded by lots of fresh flowers. And Alexei’s grave in Moscow is literally buried in flowers. The most touching statement on his grave reads: “We will cover you so warmly that all of Russia will get warm.” https://twitter.com/ne_buhai/status/1764622947279393165
Preparations for the “Anti-Putin Noon” campaign are in full swing. In Lisbon, the polling station will be set up at the embassy. It is not necessary by law to attach yourself to this site at Gosuslugi, but there is an opinion that in order to have enough ballots, it is worth doing. Yulia Navalnaya also supported this action in her recent video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=93hgn6hrzUI
To achieve maximum coverage, we need the help of each of you. This is also important because it is possible that information will soon have to be passed on from person to person, just as samizdat was distributed. The head of the Internet Defense Society, Mikhail Klimarev, said on Feigin Live that Russia is already testing the blocking of YouTube and the entire Internet. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KVEazCqC9dU
We previously talked about arms supplies to Russia from North Korea and Iran. Mercenaries are also being recruited in different countries, often without the consent of their authorities. Thus, at the end of January, the Associated Press reported that the Nepalese Foreign Ministry was demanding the return of about 200 recruited Nepalese. https://apnews.com/article/nepal-fighters-russia-ukraine-war-e57a45645666d02651f6efed4e3f21ae
Also at the end of January, The Moscow Times, citing Bloomberg, reported that the Russian Ministry of Defense was forming the Africa Korps from former members of the Wagner PMC. It is planned to create a corps of 20,000 people by the middle of the year in five African countries with regimes friendly to Russia. https://t.me/moscowtimes_ru/18892
More and more people are realizing that without their active participation, one may not only not wait for a regime change, but also end up in a world where Putin and his dictator friends rule everything. Anastasia Sergeeva from the Civic Council published her call not to give up. The Civic Council helps volunteers join the ranks of the Siberian Battalion as part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. It will become the basis of the army and security forces for the wonderful Russia of the future, in which Alexey Navalny believed. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/V3ibeJw48RkXpWfQ
We don't give up either. We continue to support all forms of resistance to the criminal Putin regime. Join us!

Mexican soldiers opened fire on a group of 33 migrants, killing six, said the defense ministry in a statement on Wednesday. The migrants were in a truck which tried to evade a military patrol on Tuesday night. The ministry said it reaffirmed "its commitment to act in strict accordance with the rule of law, under a policy of zero-impunity, and is ready to help the civil authorities to shed light on the facts." Ten others were injured in the incident. The ministry said the migrants hailed from Egypt, Nepal, Cuba, India and Pakistan. The nationalities of the deceased were not clear, but the ministry said it would contact the corresponding embassies. The UN Refugee Agency in Mexico expressed concern over the event, adding that "people in migration are exposed to great risks during their journey, and that is why it is indispensable they have legal means of access, travel, and integration to avoid tragedies like these."

One thing that people don't seem to talk about a lot, even the people who recognize that passport privilege is real and has consequences not just on leisure activities but job opportunities and progression, is how tiring it all is. How every effort at travel emphasizes other, pre-existing, inequalities and inequities, including gender, but especially intersectional inequalities.
I currently have a visa for a country that in itself, isn't very useful (I can visit my siblings, yay! but I can't visit most of my friends, major boo). But this one visa has facilitated my ability to go to a reunion in Turkey, to a professional conference that's being hosted in Morocco in the fall, and will allow me to go to friends' weddings in Mexico (...the flight times and costs from South Asia to Mexico are a different matter!). I received my Turkish visa in under 5 hours and the Moroccan one in 10, both online. I didn’t have to hire an agent, go through a company, coordinate post or travel to the embassy in india.
My colleague is 6 or 7 years younger than me, in her late 20s. She went to university in India and came back a few years ago after finishing. She’s been working since, more or less, while doing a secondary degree in law. She is meant to go to the same conference. She doesn't have any other visas in her passport, and either way, the burden for approval of these visas is significant, which is probably why some countries decide to just accept them as a shorthand for what is ultimately a financial review process. Morocco, like many countries, doesn't have an embassy in Nepal, and consular services are in India. In order to even apply for the visa, she was informed by the consulate (unclear if this was in Nepal or India) that she'd need a no-objection certificate...from her father. Who lives in a completely different part of the country, but could just as easily live in another country, or not himself exist, or be literate.
My colleague is nearly 30. This should be more than enough to indicate her independence, autonomy, and authority to make decisions for herself. If the concern is about her "vulnerability" to exploitation - for which there are few foolproof methods, and certainly not in a State that literally profits off the exploitation and labor of people working abroad, at every stage of their decision to leave, and as the pig butchering schemes in China and Myanmar at present demonstrate - she has a Bachelor's and at least one (if not two) Masters degrees. (Again, not foolproof, but still - nothing is.)
Nepal has a new process whereby we have to get national ID cards (in addition to citizenship cards). In order to apply for this ID, you need a reference from your local government office, as well as various other pieces of paperwork. Among these pieces of paperwork and references is a certificate proving that you are not married.
A certificate proving that you are not married.
The absurdity and sexism of this state. Truly a thing to behold.
