"Well uh— I don't tell a lot of people this but I actually had a child," Y/N revealed.....

I can't believe what I'm hearing right now, Mark thought. "You don't have to explain Y/N if you're not comfortable," he interrupted.

Y/N too, noticed how surprised Mark looked, after all this is something that is kind of a big deal. But she felt a little breather of a moment to finally get something off her chest.

"Oh- no, it's ok, I think it's nice to be able to talk to someone about it, that's if you don't mind listening," the female replied. "Yeah of course, always, and yeah I think it's good to get things off your chest " Mark replied.

Y/N smiled at his response and appreciated the fact that he was so nice and attentive to what she would say.

"Thanks, Mark, I really appreciate it," she chuckled.

"But yeah— basically I was 22 when I had her. So about two years ago, and well everything was going well until my delivery. I had a case called amniotic fluid embolism. I was allergic to the amniotic fluid and since it was in me, it entered my bloodstream. My heart and lungs collapse and I honestly thought I was going to die." Y/N explained.

Mark just nodded and continued to listen intensively, with a worried look on his face.

Y/N continued, "what sucks is that it caused my baby neonatal asphyxia."

"She didn't receive enough oxygen, and so it built up excess acid in her blood. In a mild or moderate case, she could've recovered. But in her case, unfortunately—, her case was severe." She sniffled as tears started forming in the corners of her eyes.

Seeing this, Mark immediately grabbed tissues, sat beside Y/N, and comforted her by caressing her back.

"Take your time." He cooed.

"Because her case was severe, either she resulted in getting permanent brain or organ damage. Or— in her case." Y/N choked, "—fatality."

Hearing this brought Mark to pull Y/N into his chest and simply let her sob into his embrace.

Mark softly hushes her while rubbing her back, "shhh...It's okay, let it all out."

"It's okay, she's in a better place now mhmm—," he murmured.

They continued like this for a few moments, until the girl rises and started to softly laugh, trying to wipe her tears away.

"Sorry," she chortled. Mark smiled, "don't be, what you went through was and is a lot. You deserve every right to cry your heart away."

Y/N giggled, "thank you, Mark."

Mark only smiled with adoration in his eyes, she's incredible for being so strong about this, he thought.

Y/N chuckled, "you know what's crazy about it though?"

"What is it?" Mark asked.

"It's a rare condition— only every 12 out of 100,000 deliveries and I happen to be one of them. On top of that, I didn't even have any of the risk factors that are associated with it," she explained.

Mark only had an expression of surprise on his face and is truly just shocked at the information Y/N revealed.

"Do you mind if I ask you something?" Mark queried. Y/N nodded with a smile.

"Where's the father?" He shuddered. "Oh— well he's somewhere. He blamed me for the loss of our child and took off," she answered. Mark furrowed his brows and shrieked, "WHAT? What kind of person just takes off like that?"

"To be honest, I don't even know. Everything was going so well for us, but I guess losing a child triggered him. But I honestly couldn't care less, all I could think about was my baby," Y/N elucidates.

"Understandable but still, what the fuck was that," Mark said frustratedly.

"Anyways, let's move on— how about you?" Y/N asked.

"Well, what do you want to know?" Mark replied.

The night went on, and the two had just spent their late-night just getting to know each other deeper.

Saturday afternoon and the father and daughter had just been laying around on Mark's bed until Mark thought to finally do something.

"Bada baby, what should we do today?" Mark asked the cute little girl, while still laying down.

Hearing her dad's voice, she turned to him and paid attention attentively, "Outside! Outside!" the little girl cheered, jumping with her knees on the bed.

The excitement of the little girl caused Mark to giggle, "Alright, alright~, where do you want to go?" he asked.

"I want some pancakes!" Bada cheered. "Also can uncle Hyuck join us? Pretty please?" she added, cupping her dad's face in her hands.

"Oh? Is uncle Hyuck your favourite?" he asked in a teasing tone. She hummed and mumbled an "I dunno kno—" under her breath.

Mark lightly laughed. "Okay, let's give uncle Hyuck a call."

Ring~ ring~ ring~ on speaker. Haechan picked up the call, "Yesss~ 'Melt'?"

"Yooo—are you free today?"

"I most of the time am, so yeah, what's up?"

"I asked Bada if she wanted to do something today and she said she wanted to go out and wanted you to come with."

Bada rushed to bring her mouth near the phone and yelled, "Uncle Hyuck! Come with us please!"

Haechan laughed at the cute little girl and replied in a sweet tone, "I would love to Bada, I'll get ready right now, okay?"

"Yay! Okay! See you soon and take care!" she replied and added a 'muah'.

Mark smiled and adored how sweet his daughter was.

"Yo Hyuck, any idea where we can go? Bada said she wanted pancakes," he asked the boy on the phone.

"Yeah, wanna try this new cafe my friend recommended to me? Apparently, it's kind of nearby our area," he recommended.

"Yeah ok! Cool! Mind meeting here? So we can just take my car." Mark suggested.

"Okay yeah, I'll be there in 25!", Mark replied with a bye and ended the call.

Mark got up from the bed and turned to his daughter, "Bada, come on let's get ready! Uncle Hyuck is coming soon!" Bada then jumped off the bed and quickly ran to the bathroom.

Bada had ended up playing around with Mark in the bathroom, and by the time they were just about to be done, Haechan, knowing Mark's code had barged in while announcing he had arrived.

"Just a sec!" Mark yelled from the bathroom. "Bada, hurry! Uncle Hyuck is here!", causing Bada to hurry out in her towel to greet Haechan.

Haechan giggled at the sight and greeted her with a hug. "Uncle Hyuck! Can you pick my outfit for me?", the little girl asked. Haechan nodded, and giggled, "Of course sweetie."

"I want to dress like you!" Bada noted.

Mark yelled, "Are you getting dressed Bada?". Haechan replied, "Yes she is Mark!"

After some time getting ready, the three were done getting dressed, and everyone was set to go. "Ready Bada?" Haechan asked the little one, "Yes!", she cheered. And everyone was on the way out.

Monday afternoon, the duo is in their own little worlds in the living room. Bada playing with her toys spread everywhere in the living room. While Mark, on the couch, is pondering about sending his daughter to the daycare.

Mumbling to himself the pros and cons of the idea. "Pros, she meets more people." and continues, "Cons, I'll miss her—." This goes on and on, mostly mentioning the pros, while the cons are a mere I'll miss hers.

After some time, his daughter's figure came into sight and is now climbing on his lap. "Dad, I want some bread" she complained.

Causing Mark to chuckle, "Alright baby~ Let's go to the kitchen."

The two are now sitting in front of each other, munching on some bread. Mark decided to ask what she thinks about going to daycare. "Bada, do you know what a daycare is?" he asked.

"Um...No, what is that?" she wondered. "Well, it's like a school, you know what that is right?" Mark replied, causing the little girl to nod in agreement.

Mark continued, "Well, it's like that, but for younger kids like you! You get to meet new friends, meet teachers and do fun things like art and learn!"

"Wow! I want to meet new friends! I want to go!" She beamed.

"You do?" Mark asked with a mix of excitement and heartache.

Bada replied, "Mhmm," focusing on her bread.

Mark is feeling a tiny heartache as he realized his baby girl was now growing up. The thought of them not being hip to hip almost all the time, and just sending her off where he doesn't really know the people. Sure, he had his friends watch her, playdates from time to time and a babysitter for when Mark had to go somewhere work-related and his friends are unavailable. But this was different.

After due consideration, he finally decided to register her. He had already searched up a couple daycares nearby and inquired. Finally, after much research, he had decided on one.

This daycare was perfect as it's a place near where they live and at the same time near where Mark goes for work.

Thursday came sooner than expected and it's finally the first day of Bada going to daycare!

"Bada, are you excited?" Mark asked. "Yeahhh—" the little one yelled, rushing to the door.

"Bada! Wait up!" he warned. Opening the door after he caught up.

"Hello, My name's Mark Lee, and this is my daughter Bada Lee, I recently registered her on Monday!" Mark had informed the woman at the receptionist's table.

"Hi, it's nice to meet you!" shaking hands, I was the one you were talking to! My name is Sora Jeon, I am the owner of the place!" she added.

Levelling to Bada, she introduced herself, "Hello Bada, it's nice to meet you!" The little girl returned a smile and also introduced herself with a bow. Another teacher came in and took Bada to get her settled.

Sora informed Mark that he can stay and watch for a bit until Bada's all settled, which doesn't seem like a problem as Bada is already talking with other kids in the room.

After a while, seeing Bada all set, he decided to bid his goodbye. Sora told Bada to say bye to his father which caused Bada to run and hug her father's leg.

"Bada-ya, Dad is leaving now okay?' he said going on his knees to face his daughter, "Why you leaving?" she asked.

"Well, you have to have fun here and learn with other kids. I thought you like it here," he explained.

"I do but I thought you're going to stay with me," she replied sadly.

"Well, that's not how it is baby—you have your time here and dad will do dad stuff," he chuckled.

"But what if I miss you?" she asked, low-spiritedly. Causing Mark and Sora to be in awe.

Seeing his daughter ad was heartbreaking, "Awe baby~ Dad already misses you, I will come back later to pick you up ok? So it's going to be fine. All the nice teachers here are going to take care of you." he assured. After the long goodbye, Mark finally got to leave.

Knock knock— Y/N opened her door and appears in front of her is a small little girl in the arms of a young man. “Baba!” the little girl yelled out, reaching out her arms indicating to be held. “Hey Y/N!” the young man added.

“Hey, guys!” she replied, welcoming them into her home, “Make yourself feel at home!” With that, Bada jump out of Y/N’s arms and started looking around.

“I hope some steak and pasta is fine for dinner?” she asked Mark. “Yeah, of course! I’ll be expecting it~” he replied.

Y/N then headed to the kitchen to finish cooking, while Mark followed. “You know you can just take a seat or something” she chuckled. “Yeah, but I want to give you company, and some hands if you need it” he replied with a sheepish smile.

“Alright, then do you mind just grabbing those and setting them on the table?” She requested, pointing at the tray with the food she prepared.

Timeskip to them eating. “Hey, so uh—may I ask what happened to you yesterday?” Mark asked hesitantly.

Y/N was taken aback but responded, “Uhh— I just had some business things I had to do and some other stuff.”

Mark saw the sudden change in the tone of her voice and expression and decided to drop the topic as it seems that she’s slightly uncomfortable. “Oh- that’s right, Bada’s birthday is coming soon!”

Y/N turned to the little girl, who chose to sit beside her, “Wooow, Bada-ya, how old are you going to be?” she asked. Bada turned to her dad to make sure to answer right, “I’ll be— four years old!”

Mark praised her and asked what she wanted to do for her birthday, in response she mentioned that she wanted to have pancakes at the ‘pancake place’.

Mark lightly laughed, and whispered to Y/N, “it’s your cafe by the way.” Causing Y/N to laugh, “Ahhh, Bada loves pancakes?” Bada hummed and continued eating, minding her business.

“Well, I guess, Bada’s birthday is my next project.” Mark chuckled, causing Y/N to laugh at him. “You know good for you, I love how you are so attentive to your daughter, I can see that you’re willing to do anything and everything for her. You’re wife or girlfriend must be so lucky.”

Hearing the last part of her sentence, slightly affected Mark’s expression, which Y/N noticed but Mark tried to brush it off. “I don’t have anyone actually,” he stammered. Y/N saw the discomfort of the topic too and decided to not ask even if curiosity kills her.

“At least you have this beautiful little girl~” she commented in hopes to uplift his mood. Mark smiled and continued to talk about anything that comes to mind to relieve some awkwardness.

After eating dinner, Y/N had prepared some cake and fruits for dessert and headed to the living room. The two entertained Bada and at the same time talking about anything and everything. “It’s kind of crazy at how close we’ve gotten in a short period of time, well at least I think so,” Mark mentioned. “Yeah, no I agree, and to think we met and got close because of this angel,” she replied while caressing Bada’s head.

Eventually, Bada fell asleep on the couch, while Mark and Y/N continued to talk, getting to know each other for the rest of the night.
