I'm going on a reporting rampage. ALL the ads I get lately autoplay audio and it's going to break my sanity.

Hello there.

I have noticed in the last couple weeks that tumblr now has ads that auto play sound (at least on the ios app. I don’t have a working desktop at the moment so I’m not sure if they are on the website as well). There doesn’t seem to be a way to mute the ads without completely turning off my volume, which sucks because i usually have music playing while i scroll. They also will play over the audio of video posts when i try to watch a video someone posted and most of the time when i can hear an ad, there isn’t an ad anywhere on my screen or the ad hasn’t fully loaded so i can’t tell what ads are making sounds. Is there anything you guys can do to keep ads from auto playing sound?? I know your answer is probably going to be “just pay for no ads” but i can’t afford to do that. I have been on tumblr for over ten years and have never had to experience what is in my opinion the worst kinds of ads on the internet through tumblr, but it seems like something you guys are letting slip through now. It is really putting a huge damper on my experience on your app and i hope you will reconsider allowing advertisers to have audio. Ads with autoplaying sound have caused both me and a few of my friends to completely stop using certain websites in the past and i really don’t want tumblr to turn into one of those.

So, the good news is t here should be a way on the ad itself, or in the ad’s meatballs menu (the meatballs being the three little dots in the corner of a post, if it has one), to report the ad.

However, if there’s not, it is possible that you have indeed found a bug. And for this, you can always take a screen capture and send it to Support to report the bad ad. We will take it from there!

I think fondly about the alternate world where 2020 didn't happen the way it did. Where I get to graduate with a class full of friends, we all go to the conference together again, and I get the job placement I had lined up. The love of my life doesn't get sick, doesn't almost die, and we don't live on edge for two years. My brother doesn't get married and drift away. I am not shaken by fear or uncertainty and I don't accept scraps. I don't work 6 days a week, only to bring home poverty wages. I am not bitter.

I can imagine how it might be, how it might feel to wake up each day. Nothing like how it is now.
