2.22.2023. Unboxed my 1st Nendoroid Swacchao. Turns out the back peg is so frustrating, i displayed Hinata without his chair. It's positioned like a lever, so pressing the Nendoroid's back into the peg already in the chair, pops the peg out of the chair. While pressing the peg into the chair, with the peg already in the Nendoroid's back, proves the chair side of the peg isn't long enough to grip into its slot. I tried so hard to make it work, I dented the back of his shirt. If this wasn't an affordable Swacchao and if I didn't already have the original Hinata Nendoroid, I'd be bummed about the damage. But I'm not going to try attaching Swacchaos to their chairs anymore.

what's the difference between all of the different type of figurines? like, scale figure, price, prize figure, figma, garage kit — all of that? i'm new to collecting and i have no idea what is what and what is good and not good 😭

(cont: "OH! and the popup parade figures! how are they different from. say, a scale figure? sorry if this is bothersome!")

welcome to the hobby anon! i'll make a list for you :)

scale figure ; these are called scale figures because they are based on an accurate scale (for example miku is 158 cm so an 1/8 miku scale would be 158 divided by 8 = 19.75 cm). they are usually higher quality and more detailed and therefor more expensive. example: a miku 1/7 scale figure.

prize figure ; these are called prize figures because they can typically be won in arcade games or lotteries in japan. these are lower quality, cheaper and don't have an accurate scale. example: a miku prize figure.

nendoroid ; these are small figures in a chibi style (big head small body) with interchangeable parts and face plates produced by good smile company. example: a miku nendoroid. there are different sub-types of nendoroids too, like nendoroid petit (a smaller, simpler version, more like a trading figure. example), nendoriod dolls (nendoroid heads with a porpotionate body, you can dress these in little clothes. example) and nendoroid swacchao (literally just sitting nendoroids. honestly just buy a normal nendoroid. example)

figma ; these are posable action figures by max factory/good smile company. they are designed to a 1/12 scale so they are quite small and also known to be quite fragile. example: a miku figma.

pop up parade ; this is a figure line by good smile company made to be affordable and accessible. i think the idea is good but sadly the quality can sometimes turn out bad. i would always recommend waiting till a pop up parade fig releases so you can see buyer's reviews/pics before ordering. example: a miku pop up parade.

trading figure ; a small simple figure, you can often buy these in sets or in a gashapon machine. example: a miku trading figure.

garage kit ; these are fan made resin kits that you have to assemble and paint yourself (or you can commision an artist). these are often very rare and expensive because they are sold in very limited quantities for a very short period of time. some garage kits get turned into offically licensed pvc figures, which is very exciting if you've been sad you're unable to get a certain garage kit! example: a miku garage kit (to be clear: the pic is painted and assembled but you would receive this in small white pieces)

the swacchao nendoroids look so weird bc they don't change the pose and expression.. the legs are just straightforward and the arms kinda neutrally besides them and they just stare and smile. the concept is very good but they don't exactly execute it that well

Just a clarification between Nendoroids vs. Nendoroid dolls.

The Nendoroid series features cute, chibi-style figures that fit in the palm of your hand.

Nendoroids, released in 2006, are basically small cartoony plastic figures that stand about 10cm tall. While their limbs, hair and face can be changed, their clothes are also made out of plastic and cannot be removed from the bodies. The price of nendoroids ranges between 4000 and 8000 yen according to Wikipedia.

I'm not too clear whether the DMBJ nendo dolls fall under the boy or man archetype. I'll update this post when I get them.

There are also 4 types of skin colors for nendoroid dolls: peach, cinnamon, cream and almond milk.

I guess the "special shade of skin tone" that they mentioned for the DMBJ are different from these ones? I'm guessing it might be a mix btwn the peach and cream one?? Again, I'll update this post once they come home.

I also didn't realize the difference btwn the two before purchasing, but I'm a sucker for DMBJ.

After learning that nendo dolls are a different line from nendos, I browsed around some of the nendo doll outfits.

I missed the preorders for the Warm Clothing Sets: Boots & Mod Coat back in August. (I purchased the DMBJ nendo dolls in November, so I had no idea these existed yet)

These would fit WuXie (Green) and Xiao Ge (Black) so well! They're being released in April 2023, so if I'm lucky, I'll be able to get my hands on the extra stock. I've set a notification on my phone calendar!

I've ordered the Short Length Chinese Outfit (Red/Blue) set and preordered the Kimono - Boy (Navy/Gray) set for Wu Xie and Xiao Ge. I can't wait to dress them up.

The kimono set isn't out until August 2023 and the DMBJ nendo dolls are released in September 2023. So I'll be getting the clothes first before the dolls themselves.

Hmmm, I wonder what special shade of skin tone Wu Xie has. Is it gonna match my other WuXie nendo??

They're also magnetic! With magnets glued to the bottom of their little shoes.

2.16.2023. Some of my Nendoroids are on my desk, because i was in the middle of re-posing and putting them away after a photoshoot. But I kind of like having them here on my desk.💕 But my desk is too small and they'll get nicked from a dropped tool or something. I should unbox my Nendoroid Swacchao. Desk display is what they're for.

Ever since the announcement of the Nendoroid Swacchao line, I became aware that people want figures specifically for their desks. I think some of the Swacchao demos even had them sitting atop computer monitors. The other day, i saw a vid with some Hunter x Hunter blind boxes of figures designed to hold phones, pencils, coins, etc. And now, seeing this whole Rement line named "Party on Desk" it's apparent that there's a whole market out there for just desk figures. (I dont have room on my desk for figures, so i just have 1 gachapon there. But i did get a Swacchao in case i get another office job with a big desk.)
