Almost had an anxiety attack thinking of being homeless. I’m grateful I live with my parents, they take care of me even at 24. I can’t drive, can’t work, can’t go to school. I have so much anxiety about everything not to mention crippling depression. I was top of my class in high school, how did it come to this? Why was I born fundamentally broken when everyone else wasn’t?

Janeway:
Tumblr media
- will literally martyr herself at the drop of a hat
- will kill you if she thinks it's what she needs to do for her crew
- will not kill you if she thinks you've got residue humanity after decades as a borg drone even though realistically she really should've (tho ofc we're all glad she didn't)
- will violate your personal rights if she thinks you're not "human" enough and also compare you to a replicator (yes I'm still salty about that. wait what was the question? right, i'll get back on track)
- will say absolutely deranged shit like "then be a good rat and find us the cheese" in the a tone that makes me lose my mind and basically give everyone a crush on her (and also mommy issues) if they spend too long in her vicinity, leading to a very loyal crew
- her solution to having a crush on a fictional character was to delete his wife (very relatable but also very not normal)
- she wanted to watch hot Q on Q sex (possibly for scientific reasons) and looked very disappointed when it was severely underwhelming
- WHO brings a bathtub on a spaceship???
- there's more but y'know
Dokja:
Tumblr media
1. Introduced as a bland everyman only made exceptional by circumstance, slowly revealed to be the most batshit, suicidally depressed, bisexual maniac in existence. Uses self-sacrifice like a tool and is completely unaware of how beloved he is by the people he keeps pulling into his fold because he is so deeply and utterly convinced that he is fundamentally unlovable. He's like sixty foundational traumas stacked in a trench coat and he's always sixty steps ahead of everyone else and he loves the people he chooses so so dearly and people keep calling him ugly even though he's canonically pretty average and holy shit dude get some therapy please
2. do NOT let the pretty official art fool u. this is the most average 28 year old salaryman going through the absolute most in the apocalypse. ORV is a story about the most average man on earth with the most mundane, depressing life. and one story that he read to cope with it all. he's just some guy, but he is also the most beloved specialest guy. not because he had some hidden talent. just because he loved a story ferociously and also he likes getting in trouble on purpose. he is the most unreliable narrator you will ever find. every piece of the universe loves him for his average stupid self. you will understand when you read 👍
3. GHBJNKML i am praying someone has sent him in but. unreliable narrator the most ever and also i just. love him so much. orv in itself is such a goo dnovel but like. kim dokja is the definition of love and the most caring person but also he's suffered so much and while. yknow we're introduced to him as a kind of nerd but like. listen he's so fucked up juts LISTEN
4.He looks like a neet-pulled office worker. Spoilers:
turns out to be one of the oldest things in the world and the only being keeping it going and alive. He needs to be there to keep the world going. Also, he got like kind of adopted by Persephone and hades. Like his blorbo is real and in love with him. But this man looks so average that people call him ugly to his face just because he’s surrounded by absolute gorgeous people.

My favorite fairy tale is The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter. It’s not because of “Story, Japan”, but because I think it’s a really creative one, that took advantage of its context.
I mean, if you’re in this site, you probably heard of at least one character that is an entire reference to it. Scholars date it from the Heian period, 9th-10th century, but what I feel what attracts me to it is how it’s such a unique story for its time.
Bamboo cutter discovers moon princess Kaguya in a bamboo grove and gets rich because the Lunarians are paying him. She grows pretty and famous and that’s where the famous five impossible requests come from, because those five guys wanted to marry her. Even the emperor tries to get her hand, but not even him, who has power all over Japan, attracted Kaguya’s affections. In the end, even if the emperor tries to oppose, nothing can stop the Lunarians to collect their princess and make her forget them, because she was fundamentally different from them.
I’ve read the oldest version in a masters’ dissertation and some things that stand out is how the bamboo cutter, her caretaker, is more of an accomplice to her schemes to get rid of the five guys. This makes her portrayal in Touhou 8 actually closer to the oldest source, ironically – in Imperishable Night, it’s said that Kaguya already had the five treasures with her, so she sent those five guys in a pointless quest (and then the fandom treats her solely as a NEET). Plus the emperor takes his rejection gracefully and develop a friendship with her, expressed in the time’s custom of exchanging poems. It was an actually cute moment and the reason he mobilized his army to defend her was to protect a friend.
The tale is titled “Tale of the Bamboo Cutter”, so it’s more of a story not about her directly, but the people about her. This takes me to Studio Ghibli’s adaptation of The Tale of Princess Kaguya, making a story directly about her. And, boy, it’s really sad. Kaguya’s life is suffering there, and growing up is a pain. I know that themes of innocence and its loss are big in Japanese culture, but it hits like a truck there. I have to admit I didn’t understand at first the scene where she imagines herself flying with her childhood crush (the guy was an adult and married), but now I realize that she was trying to escape her oppressive adulthood imagining a life in which everything would be so simple. And then her speech in the end was heartbreaking.
After that I even read a child’s version that had many elements tone down and added comedy – like the fifth treasure guy, instead of dying by falling, just fall unconscious and forgets completely who Kaguya is. But even in this version, they didn’t remove the element that makes this story unique, and that’s in all adaptations is how she has to leave for the moon. This shows that Kaguya is fundamentally different from the other people. The Lunarian doesn’t even bother with the emperor’s army, they don’t even hurt them and go straight for Kaguya. Not only that, but the moment she dons the Lunarian regalia, she forgets her time on Earth. She essentially stops being human.
From what I know, Lunarians are suppose to represent beings from a perfect realm, where there is no change, there is no impurity. All the things that made Kaguya Kaguya on Earth must be vanquished so that she can return to the moon. And, due to her nature as a Lunarian, she has no choice but to fulfill her destiny. It’s funny how in most stories Lunarians tend to be antagonists, but I feel this is because of the fundamentally incompatible nature between Humans and Lunarians.
And that’s what allows us to reflect in our humanity. It must be reminded that the story was likely first written for an audience of nobles and the upper crust of the Heian court. Maybe it was circulating before that, but this is kind of lost to the fog of history. But imagine that you’re a writer and your audience is the freaking emperor, a man who’s considered to be a descendant of the Sun, therefore essentially a god. And yet, you still have the gall to write a story in which you basically tell the emperor: “REMEMBER THAT YOU ARE HUMAN!”
Because Kaguya wasn’t. But still, I like to imagine that, deep inside, she was still glad for her moments on Earth, both good and bad.

Y'know, I know that both the title and content of that Miyazawa interview are now mostly a meme, but I'm really thinking about 「百合が俺を人間にしてくれた」, "Yuri Made Me Human", and how fundamental that is to the appeal of yuri for me. Like I've been watching a bunch of comedy animatics which is kind of beside the point but in the one that I've enjoyed most there have been a few, in my mind, "yuri moments", and my own reading of them as yuri moments allowed me a moment of introspection as to what yuri is to me.
Specifically, the one I remember most clearly is when the main character, a maid (tsukkomi) , rescues her heiress charge (boke) from a kidnapping plot, and the whole while said heiress has maintained a flawless façade of unbothered-ness, she says this is the 73rd time she's been kidnapped, but once the danger is passed our main character the maid is the only one that notices that this girl still trembles slightly with fear after 74 kidnappings. Another is when the heiress is hosting a meeting for her extended family and the maid character is wowed by, if you will, how well she cleans up and how elegantly she handles her duties as host (because she is usually a NEET who does nothing but play videogames and draw doujins, this is a comedy series after all) and like. My point is. What is the core then of what I'm feeling as yuri? Simply put it's the act of noticing, its the mysterious force that makes her notice just how scared this girl really is behind her facade, its the force that makes her notice that makes her notice how elegant she can be even though she's usually such a gremlin.
And this is a thing that Miyazawa talks about a lot and a thing that is at the core of yuri, of noticing things within ourselves and others that we'd never noticed before. It is the "I've killed people with my own hands before, so why does the thought of her in danger throw me into a panic?" It's the "I see pretty women around every day, but what is it that makes her pop out of a crowd like no one else?" It's the "She pisses me off so much and is always pushing my buttons, so why does seeing her do the same routine with someone else piss me off even more?" It is a realization, and a further question, it's something fundamentally mysterious. I'd say Sorawo's characterization and her approach to love is very clearly based upon this notion, that yuri is about noticing the human, and in noticing, being presented with a mystery: the mystery of yearnings and urges you've never known before, and never put a name to.
That's why it makes me so grumpy when I see anglophone himejoshis take what I will call the miracle of yuri, which is grounded fundamentally in mystery, in the fundamental mystery of the human experience, and do a violence against it by demanding it be made into the legible social script of "romantic love", which gives it a focus but hobbles inherently its possibility

in a broad sense, video games, unless they are intended to be quite literally a resource hole with no expectation of return, will always be moderated by the same market forces all things are under capitalism. social democracies or centralized economies fundamentally have to gamble on which luxuries should be supported (and they do- non-essential industries get subsidies all the time in plenty of places.)
due to the way that programming works nowadays with dependencies and such, making a game at minimum requires a good 5-6 people working on it at one time to complete. use of previously existing libraries does in fact mean the people who build and maintain those libraries count for dev numbers, even if they don't show up in the credits. most, of course, require many, many more.
therefore even under an idealized economic system, you require 3-4 NEETs on UBI working around the clock for years on end to publish a single good game. many indie teams fall apart or if their early games don't get good reviews they no longer want to keep making them. but in a more common scenario (because, let's face it, people are more likely to play big AAA-style games, even if they aren't quite AS big as the AAA games of today- marketing is necessary even if your product is totally free) the game that people are likely to play simply won't get made without outside funding. not everyone who works at a big game studio would rather work there than anywhere else excepting the paycheck; many people would in fact not make games if they had to collaborate with large teams for enough income to survive and have a little left over. in addition, hardware and software packages are needed, and not everyone who works on making THOSE only wants to do it for UBI, either. you need increased incentives for things you want to exist beyond the minimum necessary for existence, because while people do work together, they only work together well up to Dunbar's number and then it all goes to shit.
so, what's the most likely scenario under a non-capitalist economic system for the creation of video games? remember, luxuries ARE created under non-capitalist economic systems, because they make life worth living. it is plausible that some people would find video games a reason life is worth living, therefore you would want to fund it.
i expect they would be created under a system of government grants. you apply to the government with your game scenario, concept art, perhaps a short demo, and they give you grant funding. however, there's a small problem- presumably, the government cannot afford to fund every game that people want to make. perhaps some of those which aren't funded go on to become indie games made by NEETs, but the majority probably crash and burn because their concept was too ambitious.
so, you have to convince the government that your game will be well liked, in order to get the grant money, to make your game. they want to fund things that will increase the satisfaction and well-being of their constituents as much as possible, you see. do you see the issue with this?
yep, it's exactly the same issue with pleasing investors in the modern day. creative endeavors that require large teams and need to aim for an actual specific goal rather than ars gratia artis = people creating proposals that aim for specific keywords and things that are currently in vogue, not for the wildest and most interesting. this creates games that are just like modern AAA games- attempting to appeal to the market as much as possible.
now, how do I know this incentive structure will be created? well, you might have heard of heard of a small organization called the "National Science Foundation"...

I always wondered when exactly Radagon and Marika fused, but wouldn't it probably have been after Miquella and Malenia left for the northern lands...? And if so, might it not have been until after Godwyn's death?
As far as I can tell, the timeline of the Golden Lineage is as follows:
Marika arrives to the Lands Between from Numen with Maliketh, Maliketh defeats GEQ. Rune of Death is removed from the Elden Ring and contained with Maliketh in Farum Azula, marking the conception of the Golden Order.
Marika chooses Godfrey as Elden Lord, commanding him to slay the Fire Giants and seal the Flame of Ruin; Radagon allies with the Golden Order.
Marika and Godfrey make some babies, flush two of them, keep Godwyn and establish the Golden Lineage; Radagon wages war with Rennala in the Second Liurnian War, finds he cannot defeat her, so marries her instead and they have some weird kids.
Godfrey conquers the southern lands, founding Limgrave. In Caelid, his grace is divested, and he and the Tarnished are exiled.
Radagon ditches Rennala, moves in with Marika at last. Two more babies, this time with soul-incest. Golden Order Fundamentalism joins the arena.
Miquella's faith in GOF withers with Malenia's health, setting him on his quest to plant the Haligtree and create his own order of Unalloyed Gold.
Ranni gets bored and ices Godwyn.
Marika's faith wavers, and she fuses with Radagon before shattering the Elden Ring; Radagon agrees if only to become a proper god in her place and prevent the Elden Ring's total destruction. The Shattering War ensues.
I figure if they were so keen to avoid arousing suspicion, they probably wouldn't, y'know, conjoin their bodies until their kids left the nest. (To be clear, I'm not saying Radagon and Marika weren't always one being in soul, but that their bodies had yet to be entwined, similarly to the kinship between Darian and Devin.)
As for how the "famed sculptor" of Leyndell discovered their secret, Miriel's reference to "skeletons in [Radagon's] closet" would seem to imply that the sculptor was specifically studying Radagon's life, and chanced upon some subtle indication that he and Marika shared their consciousness or soul in some way. As amusing as the image is, I don't think this sculptor happened to spy Radagon and Marika accidentally swapping bodies before their eyes, lol.
It is kind of funny to think of Godwyn lazing about Leyndell after Miquella and Malenia left, though. Sure, he fought a few flying lizards and later befriended them, marking him a proper diplomat, but it's no wonder he was reduced to the ultimate failson after hanging around mom and steppop for, what, a couple of millennia? A steep price for being NEET... to become a mermaid.

I get so fed up with radblr because so many of yall are racist and/or NEETs who don't think for yourselves. Why Try?
I think about the Hikikomori a lot. For those that don't know, I'm referring to the phenomenon first identified in Japan of young men secluding themselves indoors, either living alone or (more often) still in their parents' homes. While the prevalent definition of a hikikomori contains the provision that they must be NEET (not in education, employment, or training), I think too much is left on the table, and the problem at hand would not be understood to be at the scale that it truly is. More on that in a bit. These men have become the subjects of a fairly dynamic field of study over the last couple of decades, and academics have identified a number of interlacing explanations. I'd like to train my dilettante eye on a few of them for a moment.
Modern technologically is pervasive, and much of our lives are not only enraptured by it, but depend on it. As an almost-well-paid bureaucrat who benefits(?) from the post-COVID home office revolution, there is no way I could do my job without a reliable computer, fast internet access, and at least two monitors. Daily, I access vast databases that store so much information, a small warehouse would have been required in the days of pen-and-paper. My job would be fundamentally different and I would be a much less efficient worker without the benefits of our current level of technological advancement, and I am far from the cutting edge. This theory feels a bit too obvious or "common sense" for me. It's basically impossible to scientifically put to the test, but how could there be nothing to it? Some people really would rather throw on a VR helmet, buy a quality fleshlight, and invest in a premium subscription to a site of their chance than go somewhere to meet a romantic partner. But more on that later.
I'll admit that this next theory is a bit beyond my current level of training to fully explain, but I can summarize what I have been told and what I have been able to glean from cursory analysis. Marxists have been ringing the warning bells since the 1970s that the old coot's theory about the rate of profit inexorably dropping off has been generally proven true, at least in effect. Economies are volatile after the financial boom of the 1980s, and Japan in particular has been in stasis since the 1990s. Some researchers point to this stagnating economy as an issue. In the not-so-distant past, it was pretty hard to make a living without leaving your domicile and clocking in somewhere for eight, ten, or god help you, twelve hours. With the decline or at least stagnation of industrial jobs in countries leading the way in the capital markets, there are just fewer people, men in particular, taking on work that requires them to be in the same room, vehicle, or job site with other living, breathing people. If you spend the better part of your day working or preparing to work and your job is to go into the home office across the hall from your bedroom, it doesn't leave much time for anything else. For the NEET crowd, what is really the difference if your parents are able to support you to the same degree or better than how well you'd be able to support yourself? After all, your net wages are likely to be significantly lower than theirs were and the necessities in life are much more expensive. May as well stay home, right?
Finally, we come to a pretty nebulous point that I think is most obviously created by the first two, but maybe explains the phenomenon more clearly. The fact is that nobody knows how to meet people anymore because there are no shared spaces anymore, in person or otherwise. As much as I think the hand-wringing around "polarization" by the political centrists who just want us all to get along even when some of us would love nothing more than to kill the rest of us annoys me to no end, their identification of a more polarized society is accurate. As you can tell from how I let that last sentence linger a bit too long, I could go on for awhile about the political side of polarization, but that's for another day and probably another platform entirely. What I'm referring to is what I'll call interest-driven polarization. Now, more than ever, I can choose to never interact with someone I don't want to interact with. It would take actual effort and not a small amount of research to find a space where a diverse group of people can get together to interact with one another.
Here's an example that illustrates my point: a close friend of mine is a specialized mechanic. As such, he works in a dealership/repair shop with an almost entirely white, conservative, rural group of people. He himself is white and comes from a small town. The difference is that he isn't conservative at all. He is forced, by the nature of his job, to sit and talk with people who aren't like him. These are people he would never interact with if he had a job like me or most of the other people I know. I'm not saying it's fun or even healthy to be in constant interaction with people you're a hair's breadth away from arguing with every day, but the fact remains that he is one of the vanishingly few people in his age-bracket who has this experience.
Contrast this with another friend of mine: same age, but with an advanced degree from a prestigious school, a job in the financial sector, and wealthy parents. While he is south Asian and the people he encounters through work span the demographic spectrum, they all have roughly the same outlook on the world. To a person, they all share nearly every belief and conviction that he does. This in turn leaves him unchallenged and inculcated from a world outside of this circle, engendering a sort of naivety that he is still shocked by whenever it is made apparent. Ultimately, he has no rational reason to get away from it.
When your livelihood depends on a homogenous social circle and your interests are so easily catered to by boutique shops, twitch streams, algorithmically generated advertising, playlists, and youtube feeds, it becomes too easy and seductive to ever leave your comfort zone. You'd have to try.
To wrap up here, I want to pose a sincere question: why try? I've been sitting on this post for almost a week, having begun a draft and stalling at the second paragraph a day after my first. I kept writing and asking myself why I should try to finish it. I have multiple short stories sitting in google docs, half finished and not half bad. But why try? Nobody will read them, and I can gain gratification doing anything else in the world? I know many young men who probably ask themselves that question every time they're confronted with the anxiety of stepping out of their door. My friends are all on discord or twitter. Why do I need more? My career is almost certain to be a dead end, so why pour myself into it? It can be psychologically damaging to talk to women and get rejected or mocked, so why try to find a way to meet them without being a creep?
Dear reader, I have no idea how to answer these questions without giving someone an answer that doesn't feel weak or forced. I'm not in the business of dispensing platitudes. What I do know is that life is hard, and it must be in order for your actions to be of consequence. When you are stuck at home, only knowing what you want to know or talking to who you want to talk to in a way of your choosing, you will feel as though you're missing something. You're going to try to find that thing, but only in the way that you know how. It's dangerous to go that path alone. The problem is that we're all alone, and many of us wouldn't have it any other way.

Have you considered that the fact that you're fundamentally incapable of running your own adult life means your opinions on the adult lives of others aren't exactly the most valid
So why are you validating me lol. Im an unemployed NEET reprobate. Why are you wasting a single iota of your important professional adult life on little old me.
what kind of cuck needs to get their opinions “validated”. Who is more valid than me?

The test is structured to evaluate students' knowledge, analytical skills, and readiness for advanced academic challenges.
The OSAT examination offers different streams to accommodate varied academic interests. The Science Stream exam focuses on Physics, Chemistry, and either Mathematics (for JEE aspirants) or Biology (for NEET candidates). The Commerce Stream exam covers Mental Ability, English, Social Studies, and Mathematics. Each exam is carefully crafted to test not just theoretical knowledge but also problem-solving skills and analytical thinking.
The test's scoring mechanism is designed to encourage comprehensive preparation. With each question carrying two marks and a negative marking scheme of -1/4, students are motivated to approach the exam with a balanced and strategic mindset. The 120-minute duration further tests students' time management and concentration skills, essential attributes for success in competitive examinations.
Scholarship opportunities add another layer of motivation for students appearing for the OSAT. While not every student is guaranteed a scholarship, top performers have the opportunity to receive financial support and recognition. The ODM OSAT Council carefully evaluates student performances, considering not just the test results but also academic interviews, board exam performances, and special achievements like NTSE, KVPY, or PRMO qualifications.
The admission criteria at ODM Global School extend beyond standardized testing.
