No idea where he even found the stuff but he wastes no time in parading around while wearing them; a pair of red, demon-like wings attached to the back of his shirt via clips and a matching headband with horns on his head while in his right hand rests a plastic trident. His laughter echoes around as he searches for his potential victim. "Nishishi, surprised?" grinning from ear to ear, Kokichi points the trident at the other "Neenee, Makoto-chan~ Let's play tag!" and off he goes once more.

It shouldn’t be a surprise that Kokichi is so good at escaping his babysitters, but each time Makoto makes the mistake of thinking it will be different, they’ve figured out how to stop him. Point being, the remnant of despair is a force of nature. He takes the entire Future Foundation by storm, like he’s the king and the building his castle. 

As soon as he hears the pattering footsteps, however, he knows. A soft groan leaves him just before he hears the tell tale laughter that Kokichi is near by, and that it’s only a matter of time before- there he is. 

Makoto has barely met Kokichi’s gaze, taking in the horns and trident. Well, this is... new. “Ouma-san, where did you..?” The question is pointless, and he knows it. A soft sigh leaves him, but the whirlwind across from him wastes no time, already brandishing the trident before running off. And, of course, there are little wings clipped to the back of his shirt. It almost feels like a practical joke someone else at the Foundation is playing on him.

He contemplates simply letting the other run free, no doubt he’ll get caught sooner than late- probably tackled to the ground by Hina. Again. But... glancing at his stack of paper, he supposes he needs a break anyway. And maybe if he plays along, it will be easier to get Kokichi back to containment. 

Scribbling a quick note that he’ll be back soon, he drops it on top of his book before running off after Kokichi, following the echo of his footsteps and gleeful laugh.

Kuroshima Yuina’s Chimudondon Interview

"As Nobuko is doing her very best, I'll also give my utmost best acting her!"

"Chimudondon" is a 50-year old story about four siblings born and raised in Yanbaru, Okinawa that could make you laugh and cry depicting the course taken since the return to the Mainland in 1972.

On the official drama homepage, we interviewed Kuroshima Yuina-san, who plays the heroine Higa Nobuko, before the broadcast starts on April 11 (Monday). Nobuko loves food and eventually dreams of Okinawan Cuisine. How does Kuroshima-san portray her?

----- How did you feel when you received the offer to play the role Nobuko of Chimudondon?

Kuroshima Yuina: I've never thought I'll be playing the heroine, so I was surprised! I have had the opportunity to play a role in Massan (2014~2015) and Scarlet (2019~2020). Exactly because I have seen the difficulties of the heroines up close, I felt greatly pressured at first.

However, I got a lot of support from the people in Okinawa, like "You'll be all right." and I was able to be a little positive about it.... Starting with the announcement of the new heroine in Asaichi (NHK Morning TV Show), reading the script, and meeting with the staff, while doing these, the positive feeling of "I want this shooting site to be very fun! I'm going to enjoy this!" grew stronger in me. It's always been fun ever since the drama shooting has started. I don't feel tired yet *lol*.

----- I've heard that you are trying to remember all the names of the staff, talk to them cheerfully, and enliven the shooting site.

Kuroshima Yuina: There are so many people involved in Asadora so I, myself, want to remember everyone's names. I've also heard that many staff members meet for the first time, so I suggested "Why don't we all put a nameplate?". I'm glad to have suggested it because they were very pleased!

I like the sense of camaraderie where many people are creating one drama, so I want to do whatever I can. I may have been pulled by the role of Nobuko. I recently realized, "So I'm this cheerful when I'm playing an energetic and positive role!" *lol*

----- Last year (2021) November to December, you flew out in the studio (shooting site) and had the shooting Okinawa. How was it?

Kuroshima Yuina: First of all, the story is set in Yanbaru (Northern part of Main Island of Okinawa), a very wonderful place! I'm from Itoman City (Southern part of Main Island of Okinawa), and I used to go to Yanbaru with my family once a year. Even after I became an adult, I hiked with my friends in Ta-Taki Falls (A waterfall in Yanbaru) and went back to Itoman sopping wet.... *lol*. I was once again overwhelmed by the dynamic scenery created by the seas and mountains, rivers and waterfalls. You can see them beautifully in the drama, so please look forward to it!

For the shooting site in Okinawa, It was the first time the four siblings of Higa Family gathered as they had scene altogether. On the first day of the shooting, we had a "yuntaku" (Okinawan word for "chitchat") in the lodging room. We get along with each other that it feels like we're real siblings.

----- In your perspective, what kind of siblings are the Higa Family?

Kuroshima Yuina: Niinii (eldest son, Kenshu played by Ryusei Ryo) is a troublemaker, but also has an adorable side [The sun of Higa Family]. Neenee (eldest daughter, Ryoko played by Kawaguchi Haruna) is a reliable role model and the joker. Younger sister Utako (Kamishiraishi Moka) has a shy personality but kind and adorable, the healer in the shooting site *lol*.

There are many similarities between us and the role that we are playing! Ryusei-kun a~lways talks to Nakama (Yukie)-san and when Nakama-san says "help me *lol*" Haruna-chan would jokingly say "stop that already!" to him. Then there's Moka-chan laughing.... something like that *lol*. All of us might being pulled by our roles. Higa Family is a very comforting family.

----- What are the similarities between you and Nobuko?

Kuroshima Yuina: Just like Nobuko, I also love eating. The Okinawan foods that have been prepared for the shooting were really delicious that I tend to keep eating even after the take. Another similarity is might be fast in running. I've done lots of running roles, but I feel that I have obtained the knack of running faster even more shooting in Chimudondon.

----- You said a while ago that since you are being pulled by your role, it makes you cheerful as well. By acting Nobuko, what's the thing you consciously value?

Kuroshima Yuina: It's trivial but I try to move a lot. Nobuko is a vigorous girl, and even in scenes with little actions, I try to move my hands around. However, as Nobuko has the impression of "can't leave alone" (as a character) I think I couldn't express acting her well if I don't confront her, so I take a leaf out of her book intending to be a lovable character! *lol*.

----- At last, the broadcast will start on April 11 (Monday). Please tell us once again your enthusiasm for Chimudondon!

Kuroshima Yuina: Nobuko is cheerful and positive, but at times, she gets gloomy thinking about what she wants to do in the future, and she faces many walls even after she found her dream. Eventually, she aims to be a professional chef but it's a difficult thing to do, and I also find it difficult in accumulating practices for the role. Undefeatable Nobuko and Undefeatable Me, I hope I could skillfully reflect these two. As Nobuko is doing her very best, I'll also give my utmost best acting her! Please do look forward to Chimudondon!

As you may have noticed, NeeNee is back in action! Recapping action, that is. I will definitely keep up on my streaming updates posts as well. YouTube posts take longer as that requires digging and confirming of legit subtitles and the legality of the source. Again, you can always drop me a line about a drama or channel that you are aware of and I will most definitely get around to checking it out. I think I’m eventually going to create a few forms to make it easier to submit these requests. We will have to see.

Just for Fun #1

I am entertaining restarting a few other post series I started and have let fall by the wayside [Recommendations, What Came First, The Forgotten, Asian Drama Synopsis Fails, New Discoveries, Dramas and Movies Based on Comics, Total Randomness, Just for Fun, etc.], but we’ll have to see how this goes for me while trying to get back into the swing of recapping. If there is a column/series that you enjoyed, let me know and that will encourage me to continue on with it. You may notice a lot of series posts stopped in 2014…there was a very, very, very sad reason behind this…and this reason is why my blog was not nearly as active as it once was back in its hay day [hey day…hayday…heyday…?].

I will say this to all you readers who find Asian Addicts Anonymous and are new here. This is NeeNee’s baby and my sole endeavor. I’ve had a few contributors here and there (okay, only 3), and they have all vanished leaving behind a handful of posts. Chani-chan always says she will come back. I am hopeful she will, but she’s a part-time professor, plus has a job in retail, so she’s very busy. So, I am the only one working on this site anymore. This means I am not like other sites out there offering different dramas covered by different people. Everything is watched by me, written by me, and I am [sadly] verbose and am never certain my posts do any good to others, but I write them to share the dramas I like with others. Even if you do not like the dramas I choose to recap or my writing style, I do hope you at least appreciate the time and effort recapping takes.

These are the dramas I am recapping currently. There is no simulcasts at the moment (unless you count Lovers in Bloom that is). I can’t do it. It is surprisingly difficult to keep up with what is airing let alone recapping it in a timely manner—especially Korean dramas. Plus, the interwebs is saturated with Korean drama blogs already doing an excellent job in getting recaps of the hottest shows out. I have never wanted to be constrained to a sole country’s dramas. Although, I do tend to recap more Japanese dramas.

Onto the schedule. While on vacation last week, I was a watching and recapping fiend…I have no personal life, I’ve come to terms with that, lol…so I managed to post two recaps a day (I think I wrote an average of 4 recaps a day spanning Thursday through Sunday). Now that I am back to work, that probably won’t happen. My goal is to try to do a single post a day. More if I can, but my entire work day is spent on a computer…so coming home to solely work on the computer again is a bit much some days. Here are the dramas I am covering and they are listed in the order I will be covering them in unless I decide otherwise.

I am working on Lovers in Bloom episode 2 as we speak, then will come episode 2 of Two Women’s Room. Then I’ll start all over again with Princess Agents. There is a method to my madness. I’m doing this to force myself to not watch ahead and then not follow through on recapping like I’m very prone to do. This is really hard with dramas I enjoy the most (like Legal Mavericks).

I do not believe I will be starting any additional dramas until at least one of these have been completed. I will dust off a drama I need to finish recapping and choose another drama I am interested in recapping after that. I will definitely finish The Holy Pearl; Smile, Donghae; and Zettai Kareshi. I make no promises for the other dramas on my On Hold list. I may even dust off dropped dramas if I feel inclined to. As far as new recapping projects go, if good recaps already exist, I am less likely to start recapping a drama. I do except suggestions and requests, but everything is based on the discretion of my taste and enjoyment of dramas. For the most part, I watch an episode or two of a drama, if I like it and feel interested in possibly doing recaps, I Google the drama name and recap and if none show up, I just might undertake writing up episode by episode recaps.

Biglaan sya, kaya si Papa napunta ng Marilao.

Then netong gabi, sila Papa at Mama lang ung nagpunta sa burol. Hindi na kami sinama ni bunso.
