billy and steve getting accidentally locked in a room together, screaming at each other and blaming the other for being stupid and getting them in this situation, feeling like their personal hell on earth being trapped in a small space together. storming off to opposite corners when it becomes clear they cant break down the door and get out. giving each other the silent treatment for a good while until someone finally speaks up, only to further the insults. steve eventually getting sick of that same old song and dance, tiredly asking billy why he hates him so much. billy, exually as exhausted and hungry and miserable, quietly admitting maybe he was a little jealous of steves life, how easy it was for everyone to love steve, see him in a good light. fight for him. be on a his team. steve balking at that because billy cant be serious. steves life has been one long joke ever since nancy broke up with him. billy being the one to put shit in perspective, show him his life isnt as miserable as he thinks it is. steve, half teasing, half earnest, asking billy "does that mean you want to be my friend?" billy telling him to fuck off but "maybe we dont have to be enemies anymore." them coming to a weird truce right before somebody finds them, opens the door. sees billy there and immediately checks steve over to make sure he wasnt beaten to a pulp. steve noticing the way billy stares at the ground, sullen. nobody checks on billy. steve deciding he's going to make an effort to check on billy from now on.
