ooo for the writer ask, #7 and #20!!
7. How do you choose which POV to write from?
Which ever POV makes the most sense for the fic that i'm writing at the time.
20. Have you noticed any patterns in your fics? Words/expressions that appear a lot, themes, common settings, etc?
I always joke that it's not really one of my fics if at least one character doesn't get some well deserved rest, someone will be sleeping, probably falling asleep in someones arms.

Spectember D10: Fantastic Biology
In a universe where space is not an empty place, but filled by a nebulous substance which the inhabitants of earth call “the ether”, life has evolved to adapt there, they do take advantage of the condition of this realm on which planets and objects orbits and theoretically also across star systems. And within these spaces live thrives as wanderers of the ether.
There is a sort of ecosystem of between these spaces which sustains strongly around asteroids, near habitable areas of our solar system, and around pockets of dense matter that the gas giants accumulate in their orbit trajectory, these remain far of the planets but move nearby. Many beings of the different habitable bodies have managed to jump over and colonize other nearby worlds in many cycles of migratory and invasive waves, though for what it matters only few have been able to properly dominate the travel through the ether, remaining as the endless travelers of large distances, observed by the earth astronomers for millennials of different cultures remaining unknown for the limited view of those.
Among the most remarkable in the ancient literature and modern research there are the mostly recognized as the “Aether bullets” or often called popularly as the “Flamboyant Wanderers”, they resemble a mix of a squid and comb jellies they are large, up to 10 to 15 meters in length, the name flamboyant often comes of their strange iridescent coloration that shines when their soft parts are exposed to the light, often visible as multicolor dots in a clear night sky. For the other name, these are referred as bullets for their peculiar way to move across the space, as they do not travel using their fin like appendages, instead they push their bodies using what it seems to be a peculiar system of explosive blasts they generate from the inside of their bodies, which these concentrate internally in a pair of long blade organs that act as combustion chambers.
We are unable to know how this process happened as the only available way to see it happen is by long distance observations, but for inferences of different accounts and analysis of these, they might be combusting large quantities of hydrogen and other combusting gases they blast off from a middle orifice, behind a disk-like structure they extend while their body contract inside the shell, with a conical hat like structure that give it a bullet like shape. When the explosion happens, the disk absorbs the force of the explosion, pushing the body ahead of the direction they took, increasingly these consecutively blasts move the large mass until it reach velocity and move out of the range of view, is considered their travels could last months and even few years depending of the region of space they want to travel.
Is still difficult to catch on these active creatures, as even though humanity has finally archived space travel is barely enough to get close to these unique ether residents, only matter of time and more research will tell us what are their secrets.

Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you've written, then pass on to at least five other writers. Spread the self-love 💕
Aww thanks :3
Finally got around to doing this whew
Everything I've written is for BG3 and pretty much about one guy (surprise!!), as I'm sure most of you already know...You will see a running theme here lmao
I've got one longfic, a bunch of one-shots, and a stageplay. No pertinent warnings on any of these besides canon-typical violence.
1. Ghost Lights Down the Chionthar -Rated M, 92,658 words.
After the defeat of the Absolute, Tav and the Emperor navigate a situationship. Contains nebulous magnetism, comical circling, gentle bickering, and certainly no development of any feelings whatsoever, as that would be ridiculous.
The squid longfic!
2. On the Nature of Rime- Rated M, 6,521 words.
Another day, another threat against Baldur's Gate. The Emperor travels to address this alongside the question of: What counts as eating people anyways?
A standalone oneshot in which the Emperor goes on an escort mission.
This is the weirdest one I've written, but also I think the best executed. About half of people said it's funny, and about half said it's sad. It's about ice cream, sort of. And about what counts as eating people lmao
3. Forever Looking Out to Sea- Rated T, 2,054 words.
The Emperor does not love the ocean. That's been gone for a long time. But if he closes his eyes, he can still summon such an eidetic impression that, for a brief, gossamer moment, he can hear the sea again in his bones, like a physical voice.
The Emperor goes shopping.
A brief one-shot about how Baldur's Gate is a trash heap city tbh
4. On the Nature of Reason- Rated E, 5,395 words.
Tav and the Emperor engage in ardent conversation.
It's a squid smut 👍
5. Carpe Corpus- Rated M, 4,658 words.
Unfortunately for Balduran, it took the whole seven days. (But he gets better.)
A stageplay in seven parts, about ceremorphosis and also vacation.
Yeah it's a play lol

wait tell us abt your ocs!! i’m kind of new to your following and i’d love to know more about them!!!!!
my two main splatoon OCs are Cress Rassica and Verna Rassica, two inkling brothers with a complicated relationship. they plague my mind at every waking moment
(do not ship them together else i will skin you alive.)
Cress is overall a nice, trustworthy and reliable guy, a little weird though. can be a bit gullible at times too. hes not too shy, but just prefers to keep to himself. gives off an aura of awkwardness, except when turfing, where he becomes more aloof, even aggro. can hold a grudge. Verna is stubborn, impatient, competitive, has a drinking problem, and suffers from stress induced headaches. hes so full of stress, thanks grizzco. emotionally stunted, expresses mostly through varying degrees of anger. has insane libido i hate him. i think he needs to be held. A summary of what their whole deal is: following the untimely death of their mom, and their father long out of the picture, 13-year-old cress moves in with his older brother verna, who had been living on his own for some years. with the huge age difference between them, they'd never been too close. as teenage inklings tend to do, cress gets into turfing for fun... and as an outlet for his squid instincts and other things going on in his mind. Meanwhile, verna is at a nebulous point in his life, and suddenly losing his mom and having to take care of his brother has been making things trickier. going from shitty job to shitty job, tries going to college for a semester and gives that up, back to more shitty jobs...he deals with it all by staying inebriated. he eventually lands a sketchy but well paying job at a place we now know as grizzco industries. after a traumatic workplace incident that verna is barred from discussing (and its not like he knows how to manage his feelings anyway, and doesnt want to get his little brother involved), verna and cress's relationship grows more strenuous...verna drinks more, lashes out more, closes himself more...after years of tension, cress grows fed up, and even a bit fearful of verna, and moves out. cress moves onto living a bit more peacefully, dreaming of opening up his own little tailoring shop. verna continues working at grizzco, gradually getting dragged into a seedy world of business and crime in the underbelly of inkadia... the two havent spoken to each other for some years, and thats been the current state of their relationship. but surely, their paths will cross again.... when more cool plot stuff happens that i havent fleshed out properly yet<3
i've been thinking a lot about revising their toyhouse pages since its been a good while...will share that here when i do

One element of Lovecraft's fiction that remains to some degree controversial is his use of various terms to describe his monstrous alien beings. This issue has been further confused by the habit of his followers to interpret these terms in various ways in their own fiction. The following examples are some of the better known names Lovecraft himself quoted: 1. The Ancient Ones - Lovecraft used this term in several tales, but the exact identity of who these entities are is open to interpretation. 2. The Old Ones - Again a specific defining explanation for who or what qualifies as an 'Old One' is nebulous and MAY depend on who is using the term in a particular story. 3. Outer Ones - This term is used as in THE WHISPERER IN DARKNESS to describe the Fungi From Yuggoth. These creatures are the origional beings that inspired legends of the Mo-Go AKA The Abominable Snowmen of the Himylayas. 4. The Deep Ones - These fish-frog- humanoids are the children of Dagon (and we might extrapolate) Mother Hydra. Information on this group is best defined in Lovecraft's masterpiece, THE SHADOW OVER INNSMOUTH. 5. The Sunken Mighty Ones - As far as I've been able to discover Lovecraft only used this term once and that occurred in the story, THE STRANGE HIGH HOUSE IN THE MIST. The term would seem to imply that this was used by HPL as a collective one from the Roman gods and demi-gods of the sea or oceans. Nodens, a somewhat obscure diety worshipped as, THE LORD OF THE GREAT ABYSS, in ancient Roman Britain appears with Neptune and other sea gods too. As Lord of the Great Abyss, vast and empty regions of lakes and seas were also traditionally his domain too. Lovecraft had not yet written his 'INNSMOUTH' tale but we can't assume that the term SUNKEN MIGHTY ONES only refers to ancient Roman and Romanesque nautical characters with certainty. 6. Elder Gods - Lovecraft uses this term in THE had shared intimate knowledge about lovecrafts fictional universe. That was not true. Derleth would go on to term that fictional universe, The Cthulhu Mythos. Lovecraft never used the term himself and never attempted to set down "rules" or a specific structure for his background mythology. 7. The Great Race - The cone bodied creatures from 'Yith' featured in THE SHADOW OUT OF TIME are given the rather odd title, 'The Great Race'. Why Lovecraft would use such a peculiar term for these creatures is pretty hard to explain, but I will attempt to do so in a future exhibit. 8. The Crawling Chaos - This was the title Lovecraft gave to his Satan-like character, Nyarlathotep. Nyarlathotep went through a quite a serious and complex evolution through the years of Lovecraft's tales. The name itself was born from one of his dreams and was an important element in his last tale, THE HAUNTER OF THE DARK. 9. The Squid-Dragon - This term was used occasionally by Lovecraft as a sort of nick-name for Cthulhu AKA 'Great Cthulhu'. 10. Chaos/ chaos - Capitalized and not. c
Chaos was often used by HPL as an alternative name for Azathoth in his fiction. The strong possibility is that Chaos, concieved as the "vast emptiness" at the beginning of time, by the Ancient Greeks is in fact similar or identical to Lovecraft's own Azathoth. HPL was a devoted fan of Classical Mythology since he was a child of 6. Azathoth may in fact have been the very first of his origional cosmic entities. 11. 'Elder Things' - This term was one of several used by the explorers featured in AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS who witness the final horrors and are the only members of the original expedition who actually see the titanic ruins left by the 'star- headed' plant/ creatures of Antarctica. The term is a little questionable since the men using it are scientists and non-believers at first. Though they were aware of The Necronomicon they saw it was nothing more than childish fable until they were exposed to the ruined city of the star-head creatures. 12. The All Mother - was a term used for Shub-Niggurath earlier called "The Black Goat of the Woods with a Thousand Young." Shub-Niggurath was perhaps concieved as a mother of demons in earlier tales. "She" never makes an actual appearance in an original Lovecraft tale, but her name is used as an oath by several characters. Whether she is actually meant to be the actual 'mother of all life throughout the universe' by the term "All Mother" (in THE MOUND) is a question. 13.'The All in One, One in All' - Became a term for Shub-Niggurath's male counterpart, Yog-Sothoth. 'Yog' who went through considerable evolutionary conception. In the E. Hoffmann Price/ H. P. Lovecraft "collaboration" - THROUGH THE GATES OF THE SILVER KEY, it was really all Lovecraft- Yog-Sothoth becomes a sort of cosmic brain in which ALL creative entities (including humans) are cells or facets. (Exhibit 535)

Early on in the scenes at Port Morstorben, some of the procession carts trundling in have balloons (or glamours) trailing behind them that look a little bit like the "good memory" squishes. But I thought those were almost unknown? Or are they something different?
Kasslynians don't know about the squishes specifically, but they've theorized something like them. Everyone knows that smoke eels are evil memories so there must be a flip side to that coin. Often you see a kind of nebulous idea of a khert-golden eel; a guardian phantom who wants to protect rather than destroy.
In reality (such as it is) that positive ghost looks more like the lazy squid-fish and behaves more like Boo, but Kasslynians' imagination isn't super far off. Sette and Duane were themselves only mildly surprised to see their true form, and identified them right off.

thank you for the tag @rusquared!!! this is horrendously late LMAO i hope you don't mind 🌱
Fanwork creators self rec! When you get this, reply with your five favorite fics/art/podfics/etc. that you've made, then pass on to others. Let’s spread the self-love 🌼
Everything is going to be ORV because I love ORV!! I love love ORV and i can't stop thinking about orv so its my favourite!!
(1) ha's bad analysis of orv
my *checks notes* 23k word doc containing all my insane ramblings i tentatively call "analysis" and which probably lured all of you in mwuahahahah
(2) kim dokja panel redraw
listen i know the art style is all over the place and the consistency is nonexistent but this is still to the date, the most accurate representation of my squid infested brain
(3) my first joongdok fic to make lunch for us
still some of my best writing tbh and i won't subject you all to the beautiful line again and instead leave you with another line:
Kim Dokja listens to the strong heartbeat, thudding like it doesn’t know how to stop, like it hadn’t stopped for 1863 times, and breathes as the man holding him up breathes.
(4) these sketches
am i cheating by including two? yes but hsy would approve. these were so fun to draw and my more goober brain needs fictional man like isn't he so perfectly squishable? dont you wanna just stuff him into a jar and shake? so cute so cute also I redrew the shocked kdj here and he's so i love him so much
(5) my streamer au!!
this is still being worked on i swerar i swera i swear-
i lied before this is actually technically my first joongdok fic except there's no joongdok yet and its not even a fic, just a bunch of first drafts posted together so did i really lie (yes)

👀 for the choose violence ask game, 7 and/or 17! i don't think i've seen you actively dislike a character before
7. what character did you begin to hate not because of canon but because how the fandom acts about them?
I don't think fandom has influenced my dislike of a character; I dislike them all on my own lol I do disagree with some takes, but it's along the lines of "I just don't prefer a Lotor redemption arc like a lot of you, given everything" (vld), not hatred.
17. there should be more of this type of fic/art
There absolutely should be more "Knives finds out about vashwood (canon-verse) and uses that against them" fic! We're talking hostage situations! Bond villain monologues! Imprisonment with threats to the other! Hypocritical lectures about love! Blackmail! H/c with a dash of "let me go so Knives can't hurt you anymore"! Have they acknowledged the feelings between them? No? Even better!!!!! Give them all to me!!!
Make me choose violence via askbox! Here's the list.
#nebulous-squid#askbox games#my post#i feel like i never actively hate a character with some exceptions and most of them are irredeemable assholes who abuse kids#see: ozai chapel nina's dad from fma#if anything i start to sympathize but only to a certain extent#re knives fic: i have many thoughts about further scenarios but i must restrain myself lol

my chiptune album "Veneer" turns 10 years old today
this was a big one for me! i'd started performing Petriform shows a little under a year earlier, and had figured out the direction i wanted to take my music at that time - the intersection of drum & bass and chiptune, which i'd taken to calling "hybrid chip" or "chip hybrid" or something similar - not that it mattered. what sealed the deal was that not only was it what i had the most fun producing and performing, it seemed like what the audiences i was playing to responded to the most (at the time, i'd been performing songs from "Relentless Eventful" and some early "chip hybrid" odds and ends from my first explorations of FamiTracker). so i was on the come-up, and had a clear vision toward something that seemed like it was going to come together really well.
and it did! "Veneer" is by most metrics (nebulously) my second-most successful album. by a very thin margin, it's the #1 most-downloaded item on my bandcamp. its release kicked off what would be my most active year of live performances, and took me to places i cherish to this day (my first 8bitsf and 8bitLA shows were both "Veneer" era).
so how do i feel about it now? you know that splatoon concept art, the "inkling development process?" with "Veneer" i feel like i was the second squid from the left. maaaaybe the one in the middle. i was throwing a lot of stuff at the wall, and what stuck was yet to be fully-refined. my vocoder, previously debuting on "Brown Plaid" less than two months earlier (yes, i released two full-length albums nearly back-to-back and very suddenly had Nothing™ cooking) made its chiptune debut here on the very first track ("Intercontinental Drift") and then... did not appear musically on the entire rest of the album. 👍 "Intercontinental Drift" has some fun polyrhythmic stuff at the end, which i hadn't done much of before, and that solo sounds close to something i'd bust out today, just with less interesting instruments and programming. on the rest of the album, there's pianos, amen breaks, supersaws, you name it. a (very) loose thematic concept and leitmotif bookends all but the first few tracks, trying to convey the imagery of the album art - the core of a planet surfaced with the faux wood veneer(!) of retro electronics.
so what from this album has endured? "Vanilla Extract" and "Coastal" lasted several more years than the rest of the album among my live setlists, and even those got phased out eventually (though "Vanilla Extract" remains my third-most performed song, despite not being in almost five years! i'm playing in seattle tomorrow; i should fix that...). "Coastal" in particular was such a signature song for me that it got a reprise, a new arrangement, and was the soft concept of "Dither Beach" six years later. all but two songs from the album ended up getting performed at some point, though by the end of 2015 they'd been phased out in favor of newer material (namely the stuff that would form my self-titled album and "Don't Worry, You're Great!"). on the one-year anniversary of the album's release, i played a six-song set with only one of those songs being from "Veneer." the "Veneer" era was 2014 - 2015, and that was it!
every album i've done since "Veneer" has been better than "Veneer", but it still has a particular charm, i think. it's the last release of mine that really committed to the whole "chip hybrid" thing; that went away around the same time most of the album did - late 2015. it's the first release that coincided with my growth as a live performer. it's "Veneer!"
listen to / download "Veneer" on bandcamp here

Tagged by @salmonsaur to show my top 6 favourite albums (I'm a bit late :p but thank you!).
Tbh, I don't listen to albums and just find songs through my recommendations. I don't think I can even remember any album name from the top of my head XD. But in the spirit of trying…
Whew, that was hard... and I just learnt that the Yoasobi one is an EP rather than an album. Suddenly not sure if the others are proper albums, but eh, I don't want to recheck now... (very sorry to music lovers for my lack of knowledge)
Tagging @bluut00th, @imgabysama, @catopus, @thesilverhunt3r and @nebulous-squid, but anyone else who wants to play this, feel free to!

first of all, there is already a precedent for creatures previously thought to be mythical turning out to be real. krakens exist. they're called giant/colossal squid. and i don't believe fairies exist, but in this scenario that we are positing, wherein it is revealed that they are real, then "combination of small primate and weird bug" is in the same category as "combination of beaver and duck" to me. if the humble platypus is allowed to exist, then sure, fairies can too, I guess. whatever. and i live in florida, so "combination of small primate and weird bug" might as well live here, which leads me to my next point,
location is a big factor in the walrus vs fairy thing. if you live in a colder climate, and especially if you live close to the water, then yeah, a walrus showing up at your door is plausible enough. hell, if you live relatively close to a zoo it can be rationalized. but for a walrus to show up at my door, it would have to have either left its natural habitat to come here, escaped a zoo, or survived a zoo transport crashing in such a way that unlocked/busted open the door to its enclosure, possibly swam through various waterways without getting eaten by gators or bull sharks, shuffled along the hot asphalt for MILES without being tranquilized and hauled away by animal control, approached MY HOME SPECIFICALLY and banged its head against the door. and the more landlocked/hot you get, the more shocking this scenario becomes. can you imagine some poor motherfucker in arizona finding a walrus on their doorstep? this isn't even mentioning people who live in apartment buildings, or on mountains, or what have you.
and thirdly, walruses are one of the most surprising wild animals. fairies are one of the least surprising mythical creatures. this partly depends on location too, like if an alligator moseyed on up to my door and thwacked its tail against it my worldview would not be challenged at all. but if a gator showed up at the door of someone in, like, canada, they'd probably be surprised. and fairies have a lot of folklore behind them from a lot of different places, so not only are there people who already believe in them because they are an integral part of various cultures' superstitions, but also there's the "well I may have thought these weren't real but there are recorded sightings of these things popping up and fucking with people dating back a Long Fucking Time so sure, this might as well happen" factor of it all. so the scenario posited cannot be framed as simply "something that exists vs something that doesn't exist", because the options we have been presented with are "giant fucking marine mammal with a very specific natural habitat that sure as shit is not my neighborhood vs a creature generally conceptualized as sentient and humanoid and thus capable of going wherever it damn well pleases and knocking on someone's door." like, this isn't dog vs dragon. this isn't woodpecker vs griffin. this isn't even kangaroo vs mermaid. this is walrus vs fairy. it's "thing that I know for a fact logistically should not fucking be here vs thing that hasn't been studied by scientists yet and therefore has more wiggle room in where it shows up and what it does." it's "GIANT ANIMAL WITH TUSKS AAAAAAA vs tiny thing with wings."
and i don't even understand the framework of the "seeing a fairy would fundamentally shake my understanding of the laws of physics/the universe/whatever" argument. like. what? magic is just science we don't understand yet. what's so earth-shattering here? that it's flying? hummingbirds hover in place with their wings. that it's tiny and has a proportionally small brain and yet seemingly has human-esque intelligence? yeah that is weird. i can't wait to find out how this thing works. octopi break out of their enclosures in aquariums and know to do it when humans aren't around so they don't get caught. crows can use tools. isn't biology magical? isn't the world amazing? what fucking nebulous "laws of the universe" do you hold so dear? tardigrades exist. fuck you.
#my traitorous brain wants to think about this instead of schoolwork so here y'all go#walrus vs fairy#nobodycareslilly

obvs y'can save responding to this until Real Gender Hell Hours are over but, a thoughtdump ala Peachy;
I'm wondering if this is the point at which Peachy 'breaks'. The realisation- or re-realisation- that her brother, her own Ink and... Ink (accursed sploon squid/octo biology) was going to kill her when she was a toddler/baby. I'll try me best to get me thought process to that statement across.
Peachy's been through an awful lot already- and I don't just mean since she fell in the hole, the implication that her childhood in the Wetlands was pretty gnarly is and was pretty clear, even before more recent revelations. Her smile and optimism were definitely genuine, but the more we learned the more it began to feel... in opposition, for lack of a better wording. Not that she had to force it, and as said not that she was pretending, but like once she did find even a nugget of happiness she clung to it as hard as she could and magnified it so much in her own heart because physically leaving the Wetlands was not enough of an escape on its own- the scars ran deep, after all. We saw the sunlight diminish gradually with each event in the story but there was always a rising high to counter it- friendships formed, new information gleamed, the brief moments of comfort and safety. Everything took its toll, but there was always comfort.
This feels different. There's something very, deeply troubling about Peachy's demeanour after she mire vividly remembers The Incident. Something in there broke when she realised what Mars' intentions were, even if he bailed in the moment. And his attempt to justify it years after the fact only forced that crack to widen mere milliseconds after it formed. And that worries me. It makes sense- she blocked Mars out for so long, his coming back and her recognising him brought numerous conflicting emotions bubbling to the surface (cos some of those memories must have been fond ones), and then one of those memories becomes clearer and she realises this person she loved at one point was going to kill her... I don't know how she's gonna bounce back from that. I don't know of she can. For lack of a better way to word it, I'm worried that the last remnants of the Peachy we knew, who hung on just barely through do much, is "dead", and that being 'happy' is something beyond her going ahead. I fear that there is no pleasant end to this story- not even a bittersweet one- even though i desperately want there to be one for every party involved (even Mars- presuming he was just splatted and not killed- because joking aside as shitty as what he did is to put it VERY MILDLY I *am* starting to think it wasn't as simple as 'nah he was just gonna kill her of his own volition for [REASONS]').
Actually crying over these squids and octos and nebulous sea creatures with tentacles and turtles cod DAMN
idk why i was holding onto this one like I was gonna add anything but "HEHE" and "OHOHOH"

Part 2 Lovecraft and animals : Squids / octopi - Great Cthulhu was occasionally called the 'squid/ dragon'. Although Cthulhu has a mass of 'feelers' or tentacles for a face He is also referenced as octopus-headed. His minions are called in AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS "cosmic octopi'. Today it is generally accepted that the octopus is probably one of the most intelligent creatures in the sea. Certainly octopi are far more advanced creatures than squid. The octopus has 8 limbs or tentacles. Squid may have far more and often along with these at least 2 that are longer and more specialized than the others. Where octopi and squids are ocean dwelling creatures Lovecraft plainly stated that Cthulhu and his cosmic octopi followers are by nature land dwellers. In fact their cosmic city of R'leyh sank into the Pacific Ocean sometime in human prehistory. Cthulhu is trapped beneath the waves. Dragons - dragons exist as mythical creatures in nearly every culture in history. Cthulhu, the 'squid-dragon' might be the ultimate 'racial memory' of dragons everywhere. Goats- Lovecraft's nebulous archetype of all female essence is called Shub-Niggurath. She is called the "All Mother" in Lovecraft's ghost written tale, THE MOUND. Shub-Niggurath is also called ' The black goat of the woods with a thousand young". It might be assumed that she was originally a mother of demons. As Lovecraft's background mythology developed it might be that she was reinvented as the cosmic 'Mother' of all life in the universe. All life including humans? (Exhibit 410)

i splatooned them (and because i cannot stop once i start, there’s an Extreme amount of au nonsense under the cut.)
general stuff: very important to me that Carpenter is an octoling and Faulkner is an inkling. there’s a whole thing about octarians forced into a life of combat in splat2n and that fits very well for her i think. while Faulkner as an inkling is like “yeah turf wars!! so much fun :)” and has not experienced The Horrors. but he will.
Carpenter’s purple specifically is not the purple that fights against Faulkner’s yellow - hers is teamed up against orange. likewise, Faulkner’s yellow does fight a (slightly) different shade of purple. visually, they’re not quite enemies… but it’s very close.
the Lore: most of Carpenter’s reservations come from inkling culture primarily revolving around combat. their main sources of entertainment are fighting in a variety of ways, or simulating combat via card games. she wants to distance herself from that, but finds herself unable to. she believed that escaping would lead to a life without fighting, but instead, the inklings above have turned it into play, something that seems unshakably wrong to her.
meanwhile, Faulkner embraces all these aspects of inkling culture because he grew up with them, and thus has difficulty understanding why Carpenter doesn’t want to pretend to kill people for fun. he’s never experienced a splat without a subsequent respawn, and the idea of permanent death is not something that’s ever really occurred to him, the violence just being a nebulous Thing that wastes a few seconds at worst.
weapons: Carpenter initially struck me as a sniper (hence the images) even though in-canon she’s had some up close and personal combat encounters. on second thought i think she’d flip around various choices but prefer things with range and speed, hence the sniping lean. in the screenshots i gave her the Classic Squiffer because the special is the Big Bubbler, which i think fits her character. though granted i can see her with pretty much any of the subs and specials - except the Booyah Bomb.
that’s where Faulkner comes in, i very much see him as a roller or brush user, mostly cause of the grin your character gets when you’re moving with it active. however, none of those have the Booyah Bomb as a special, which sucks for this cause i think that’s the closest analogy to the Withermark. that being said, the Octobrush Nouveau has ink storm, which is probably second closest. if he has to choose a shooting weapon, i think he’d go with dualies, so for that i assign him the Glooga dualies because that’s got the Booyah Bomb. and also, the Booyah Bomb being powered by the primary form of verbal approval in this universe? and how much he wants to be approved of? it fits.
also idk where else to say this but another special that exists is the Crab Tank which. horrifying if seriously applied to tsv. luckily this is a lighthearted au with nothing at all bad happening to its protagonists <- lying
clothes: choice was less in the stats and more in the style (hence why i cropped the stats out lol). Carpenter gets an earring, jean jacket, and black boots cause that’s what i’ve settled on as my s1 design for her. Faulkner gets a cap, hoodie, and shoes for similar reasons - i unfortunately do not have rainboots to put squid him in, so i settled for hi-tops. he cannot escape the Short, not even like this.
if we have to make stat choices though, Carpenter leans towards Quick Respawn and Faulkner leans towards a Special Charge Up/Special Power Up combo. Carpenter tends to do things ranged and so doesn’t have to worry about getting hit - but if she does go down, she comes back quickly. meanwhile Faulkner is chucking out specials left and right and gets splatted many, many times by being agressive.
splashtags: Faulkner starting out with the “The One And Only Chosen One” title but eventually changing it to something less ostentatious once he meets Carpenter. badges are a 5-star weapon badge, a silver eggstra work badge, and a gold tableturf badge. not picky about the banner choice, could be a Salmon Run exclusive one or just one he pulled from shell-out that looked cool
Carpenter meanwhile has at least one 5-star weapon badge and the After Alterna badge. her third is either another 5-star badge or a golden badge for splatfest. i think choosing an impressive title would make her cringe so she goes with something like “Dead-Tired Octarian”. for banner, the one with the swordfish on it.
there are matching “Bro” and “Sis” splashtags and i think it’d be cute if later on, Faulkner tried to get them to match. it would take some “please please please”ing but she’d come around and go for it.
tableturf: they play tableturf together a lot and Faulkner is very proud of his card collection while Carpenter’s just glad to be doing something that doesn’t involve getting shot at for fun.
lockers: Carpenter has put a decent amount of thought into her locker, trying to get it all to look nice and have some stylistic consistency. Meanwhile Faulkner just crams every trophy into there in a horrible mass.
salmon run: Carpenter used to do a lot of Salmon Run, got gold on Eggstra Work once, but has stopped for the most part and only joins in if Faulkner needs help. Faulkner does quite a lot of Salmon Run, despite his weapons niche. His rating is generally in flux, but always remains at least Overachiever+.
the main modes: Carpenter tends to stay out of these unless Faulkner needs her help. Faulkner plays a little more than an average amount of Turf War, and his favorite Anarchy mode is Rainmaker. do not let him throw the football in Clam Blitz. he will miss horribly and sulk about it later.
splatfests: because Splatfests are a time for celebration, Carpenter participates in them far more than any other mode. she and Faulkner sometimes choose the same team, but it’s not a major deal for them because the likelihood of them ending up fighting in the same round is low. neither of them are really sure what they’d do if it happened.
