The point of a bready substrate is to ferry toppings (sauce and cheese, cheesecake, pie filling, cinnamon and sugar, sandwich fillings). It has no flavour and a texture that I merely tolorate while it serves its purpose. Once it is devoid of those toppings, you are eating the cullinary equivalent of crumbling ash, or sandpaper in bread and pizza's case.

The crust is the worst part of every food item.
