Gangtok is the capital of the hilly state of Sikkim, which is known for its breathtaking scenery and picturesque landscapes. While Sikkim does not have a railway station, it does have a small airport called Pakyong (PYG) that is exclusively serviced by Spice Jet. With daily connections from Kolkata and Delhi, this airport is situated in an artificially created valley and can only accommodate Bombardier aircraft with gliding capabilities.
Tumblr media
Additionally, Sikkim has a few helipads where non-commercial chartered helicopters land on a need basis. This 7-seater helicopter costs Rs. 3,500 per head on a one-way journey.
The easiest way to get to Gangtok is via National Highway-10. Sikkim also has a commercial road connection with China through Nathu-la Pass, which sits at an altitude of 14,140 feet (4,350 meters). If you're travelling to Gangtok from elsewhere, the nearest airport is Bagdogra, and the nearest railway station is New Jalpaiguri (NJP), both at a distance of approximately 124 kilometres. The travel time by road from NJP to Gangtok is approximately five hours.
Tumblr media
If you're planning a visit to Darjeeling, note that the town does not have a broad-gauge railway station. However, it does have a meter-gauge railway station operated by the Darjeeling Himalayan Railways, which is popular for its toy train joy rides. The nearest commercial railway station and airport are New Jalpaiguri (NJP) and Bagdogra (IXB), respectively. Darjeeling-Gangtok Tour Plan
Tumblr media
Darjeeling is the most popular hill station in the northeast region of India, having an altitude of about 6,500 feet above sea level. The
neighboring hilly state of Sikkim’s capital, Gangtok, is another popular hill station after Darjeeling when we compare. Both of the hill
stations are so close to each other that you can plan to visit them on a single day. In fact, in Sikkim, it’s not only Gangtok, but the entire tiny state is worth visiting.
There is a small entrance. Walking upstairs is required to finally get a glimpse of the border. But you can’t touch the fence. You can only
meet the Indian soldiers. They will show you the Chinese side and their soldiers too.
