🐘 The brilliant @ncstatevetmed are having their Open House today! 🦒 Loads of my Anatomy illustrations are being displayed alongside their amazing collection of animal skeletons to inspire children (and they young at heart!) to become interested in veterinary medicine! 🐖 Such an honour to have my work on display there. There’s loads of new Anatomy artworks that haven’t been seen anywhere else!! 😱 (at NC State College of Veterinary Medicine & Veterinary Hospital)

Corgmom here: #ThrowbackThursday | 05.12.2015. Of all the thousands of photos I took during Churchill's journey, this might be my favorite one of us. One year ago today. Only a day after as major a surgery as one can have & a massive transfusion, here was Churchill smiling! He was a little puffy from fluid, but his kidneys were working & he was so happy to see me that day! Always a smile, no matter what was going on. He was a better patient than most humans are. ❤️🌈😇 #teamchurchill #churchillstrong #thechurchillmovement #everydayischurchillday #ncstatevetmed #corgioncorgistrong #corgination #corgicommunity #corgisofinstagram

Corgmom here. A year ago today, Churchill & I arrived at @ncstatevetmed so that he could have hemodialysis to help his kidneys heal from a complication suffered during cancer surgery which caused acute kidney failure. He survived his 10 day hospital stay & multiple near-death experiences to enjoy almost 6 more happy months. He is daily reminder to live a little better, be a little kinder, & smile a little bigger. I'll be sharing some photos from our hospital experience this week. They are not meant to be sad or upsetting, but rather, inspirational & uplifting. It is amazing what can happen when we Corgi On, Corgi Strong! ❤️😇🌈 #teamchurchill #churchillstrong #thechurchillmovement #everydayischurchillday #angelchurchill #ripchurchill #ncstatevetmed #corgination #corgicommunity #corgisofinstagram

#WayBackWednesday | 05.17.2015. Nine months ago today, we rejoiced when Churchill's doctors carefully bundled him into the car to come home!! What a happy day that was!! It was a day that many people didn't expect. Today also marks 18 weeks since Churchill died. Anniversaries, both happy & sad, intertwined into one of the greatest experiences I will ever have on this Earth: being Churchill's mama. Keep resting easy, sweet boy. I love you. ❤️😇🌈💕 #teamchurchill #ripchurchill #angelchurchill #churchillstrong #everydayischurchillday #thechurchillmovement #corgination #corgicommunity #corgisofinstagram #ncstatevetmed (at NC State College of Veterinary Medicine & Veterinary Hospital)

#FlashbackFriday | 05.11.2015. This photo was taken a few hours after Churchill's emergency laparotomy & liver lobectomy to remove a lobe of his liver which contained a large benign tumor, which was hemorrhaging. He had twice his blood volume transfused that day, & Dr. Vigani stayed overnight with him at the hospital to monitor Churchill for signs of TRALI (transfusion-related acute lung injury), which can happen when a human or animal undergoes a massive blood transfusion. Here, Dr. Vigani was giving Churchill a cage side ultrasound, & Churchill was always very interested to look at the ultrasound images on the screen! Luckily, Churchill did fine overnight, & we were overjoyed the next morning when his bloodwork showed his kidneys had processed all of his new blood perfectly & he was pronounced dialysis independent! (Note: this photo is green-tinted because at night in the ICU @ncstatevetmed, the regular lights go out & the green lights go on. Animals cannot see green as well, so to them it seems dark, but it is light enough for the doctors to work. This lets the animals rest a little bit better.) ❤️😇🌈 #teamchurchill #ripchurchill #angelchurchill #churchillstrong #everydayischurchillday #thechurchillmovement #corgination #corgicommunity #corgisofinstagram #ncstatevetmed (at NC State College of Veterinary Medicine & Veterinary Hospital)

#ThrowbackThursday | 05.14.2015. This was the night that I got to spend at the hospital @ncstatevetmed with Churchill. We got to sleep in a quiet family room next to the ICU. He had a rebleed in his belly & received blood transfusions & medications throughout the night, & in the morning, there were many amazed doctors & staff who were happy to see him on the mend! That was the first night we really felt the whole amazing power of Corgi Nation behind us. This video is Churchill being wheeled to the family room from his cage in the ICU. 😇🌈❤️ I hope you are resting peacefully, sweet boy. #teamchurchill #ripchurchill #angelchurchill #everydayischurchillday #churchillstrong #corgination #corgicommunity #tbt #ncstatevetmed (at NC State College of Veterinary Medicine & Veterinary Hospital)

#ThrowbackThursday | 5.10.15 Exactly 7 months ago today was Mother's Day, & Churchill gave me the best gift ever: his kidneys started making urine after 3 hemodialysis treatments! He would have a rough week ahead of him in the hospital @ncstatevetmed with a liver bleed, major surgery, & massive blood transfusions, but he never lost that smile. In this photo, I feel like his smile says, "Thanks, Mommy, for not giving up on me." ❤️ #ripchurchill #thechurchillmovement #churchillstrong #teamchurchill #stumpyfurhammersruninthefamily #brokenanklebootisnotfun #corgination #corgicommunity #ncstatevetmed (at NC State College of Veterinary Medicine & Veterinary Hospital)

All through Churchill's journey, I tried to be as open as possible, sharing the good, the not so good, & anything that I thought might help others going through similar situations. Transparency was also important to me since so many people all around the world donated above & beyond anything I ever asked for. I wanted everyone to know this precious dog that they chose to help. I expected nothing & was honored with so much. I made a promise that I would put that good karma & kindness back out into the universe to help others. Wednesday marked 7 weeks since I said goodbye to Churchill. My main goals through all of this year were to see him through his illness with as good a quality of life for as long as possible & to give back & pay forward that amazing support & kindness. To begin the process of paying it forward, I decided to focus my efforts on a memorial tribute for Churchill which at the same time is an honor for his outstanding critical care nephrologist at @ncstatevetmed. On Wednesday, I was able to present Dr. Vigani with his Coat of Excellence, & #OrsotheCorgi got to help! Our multi-year gift to NCSU will benefit Dr. Vigani's service, Small Animal Emergency & Critical Care, to help them continue to provide some of the finest veterinary care in the world to the sickest animals, just like they did for Churchill. Orso also made the rounds with me, visiting Internal Medicine & Oncology, meeting some of Churchill's dedicated doctors, & spreading huge amounts of puppy cheer! It was a good day for #thechurchillmovement! ❤️🐾🐶🌈😇 #ripchurchill #gonebutnotforgotten #teamchurchill #ncstatevetmed #everydayischurchillday #corgination #corgicommunity (at NC State College of Veterinary Medicine & Veterinary Hospital)
