I calculated Grian's chances of not getting a single mending book through fishing:

using the formula for probability of an event to happen in a normal distribution (nCr) x (p^r) x (q^(n-r))

n = 6000 (because i think fishing rod usage includes the times grian uses it on entities like players, so 6000 is a good estimation in my opinion accounting for the times he might've cancelled halfway through fishing/doing non fishing things with his rod)

p = 1.9% x 2/127 (the probability of a mending book as stated by grian)

q = 1 - p

the chances of fishing up 0 mending books is 16%, 1 mending book is 30%. 2 is 26%. 3 is 16%. 16% isn't exactly impossible to hit, grian has just been quite unlucky.
