A: What’s the first book you see with a red spine?

Deathless by Catherynne M. Valente (I haven’t read it yet)

C: Do you remember the first book you ever read?

Yes! Esio Trot by Roald Dahl (I loooove this book!)

J: Favorite woman writer?

I have to say Jane Austen. I re-read P&P yearly and I have enjoyed all her novels immensely (except Mansfield Park, I didn’t like it as much as the others).

 N: Favorite YA?

Carry On by Rainbow Rowell. (Aha! You all thought I was gonna say Uprooted, didn’t you? I will when she writes me some LGBTQIA main characters).

P: What’s your favorite book by a person of color?

Recently, The Vegetarian by Han Kang. 

X: What book has your favorite cover art?

The US edition of Carry On is one of my favourite covers ever, even though that is not how I imagine the mc. I also really loved The Vegetarian UK cover with all the plastic flowers with the pieces of raw meat camouflaged.

Relationship status: single. I don’t feel the need to find a romantic partner but if I met someone that I clicked in that way, I wouldn’t say no (I think? I hope?)

Pets: Baldufa (Dreidel in English), my Yorkie who died the summer before last, and Pruna (Plum in English), my Water Dog that lives with my parents but I’m her favourite. 

Last song I listened to: Perfect Illusion by Lady Gaga because of the thigh situation. 

Favourite tv show: Yuri!!! on Ice, B-99, Elementary and The Good Place. 

First fandom(s): Harry Potter, Supernatural and Star Trek (in that order more or less).

Hobbies: Reading, playing video games, being on tumblr, writing, eating, and walking.

It’s r good! One of the few anthologies that I’ve read (I don’t read a lot of them, tbf) where I’ve found all the essays good/entertaining/interesting. The editor is doing a journal dedicated to authors of colour that also looks r good (it’s called the Good Journal).

bookish asks: 1, 10, 17, 27, 34, 40 & 50

1: What book did you last finish? When was that?

Ok, so not counting work and not counting re-reads: Cotillion by Georgette Heyer. It was a few weeks ago when I went back to Spain (It was my flight book). It was so amazing, I need to buy it! Like if Heyer was alive right now she would write fic, it was so trope-y. It was amazing, totally recommend it (and if anyone has read it, pls talk to me). 

10: Sci-Fi or fantasy? Why?

Fantasy. I don’t know exactly why: I would say because Fantasy is a more open genre, like it doesn’t have to be in the future and more or less technological based, but Sci-Fi still is very open in the sense that allows authors and readers to explore a lot of possibilities. Or because with Fantasy, you can start your world-building from zero? But that’s also true with Sci-Fi. So I don’t know why but I do. 

17: If you owned a bookshop what would you call it?

Enchanting Books. It is very cheesy, but I would like to sell cutie things book related like bookmarks, pens, notebooks and A-Z, so it is fitting. 

27: If you could change one thing about mainstream literature what would you change? (i.e. more diversity, better writing, better plot etc.)

I would definitely add more diversity, because every time I recommend a book I think it’s great, I feel like I have to warn for diverse content. And why the feck should I feel like this? I would want it to be normal and to be expected.

40: Name one of your favorite books from your teenage years

Any book by Kelley Armstrong. Especially her Women of the Otherworld series. Complex female characters, non-repetitive plots, well done romance (very het, tho) and 13 of them. 

50: Why do you love to read? 

Well done characters and world-building. I think I could read anything with that combination. (As an aside, with world-building, I don’t just mean Fantasy and Sci-Fi, but in any kind of novel, the setting should influence the characters as it does in real life). 

Bonus question: what's your opinion on literary fiction?

Well, that’s a funny one. Some people think that it is just packaging, that it depends on the publisher to label it that way, and I would agree with that. It is so subjective; it seems that if a book wins enough prizes and attracts a certain audience (coughnotmostlywomencough), it is literary fiction. But from my point of view, most novels categorised that way could be also be historical, crime, commercial, romance and so on. It seems rather that it has to be “good” to be literary, and that’s so demeaning for other genres.

Yeah, I think it’s supposed to be support, like you can talk over plot points or things that are hard? But I don’t enjoy talking about my writing instead of writing so I don’t do it, ahahaha. We can do writing sessions instead?

Ooooh! I am signed up to the website; it really encourages you to meet new people and talk about writing though, and it’s not really my thing? I just do meet ups :D

But doesn’t that take out of writing time? Like it sounds fun, I love to hear what other people do/think about writing, but I think in November I will be pretty busy writing. The website also helps you keep count, right?

Walking; like I don’t wander, I need to go somewhere so I don’t get bored, but without any hurry or having people waiting for me. A hot cup of tea. A hot bath. Swimming. 

Teacups: Favorite beverages?

Peach Nestea. Black tea with plenty of milk and sugar. Bottled orange juice, bottled apple juice (I like the chemical-y taste of it). Spanish hot chocolate.

I really like earth-y smells (carrots and potatoes come to mind), also the smell of my mother’s hair comforts me quite a lot, and right now I love my pink pomegranate body cream from Body Shop.
