I have been on the bridge of a carrier as the Conning Officer (he who drives the ship) while flight ops are occurring while engaged in "unrep" underway replenishment. Resupply while carrying the fight to the enemy. This is why we're the preeminent Navy in the world: 2nd to none.

Defensive Basic Fighter Maneuvers (BFM) Training in the T-45C / Real World United States Navy Dogfighting Training

Join me on this exciting training sortie as I instruct from in the back seat of a T-45C Goshawk, teaching my student how to execute defensive BFM in the Phantom training area, near Key West, FL. In this video, we cover two key defensive sets, designed to sharpen student situational awareness and improve combat effectiveness.

First Set: The Flats In this slow-speed defensive maneuver, we practice the "flat scissors" to teach the student how to maintain control and make precise, defensive turns at slower airspeeds. This set focuses on minimizing the enemy’s opportunity to gain a positional advantage, while keeping the aircraft within a safe, controllable flight envelope.

Second Set: The 6K Perch Next, we ramp up the speed with a defensive 6K perch set, focusing on high-speed break turns and redefinition timing. This maneuver challenges the student to aggressively alter the aircraft's flight path, to prevent getting, while managing high g-forces and maintaining spatial awareness at high speeds.

Throughout the video, I provide real-time instruction and feedback. Whether you’re a student pilot or a fellow aviation enthusiast, this video offers a front-row seat to real-world BFM training in one of the Navy’s most iconic training jets, the T-45C.

(Book 98) Exceptional. Gentlemen, military history enthusiasts, this one is for you. "Devotion" follows the true story of two naval aviators during the Korean War, one of whom, Jesse Brown, was the first black naval carrier pilot. This book was about so much more than race. The story may be a bit hagiographic, but I could hardly put it down. These were real people, and their story is told in a gripping, well-paced, and compelling way. I didn't know much about the Korean war beyond what's briefly covered in US History II and a few things from MASH. I did some light research - mostly checking to see who would live through the events of the book. Knowing how it would end did not make finishing the book any easier, but this is a story worth reading. Definitely looking forward to seeing the movie soon.
