Interesting how that original concept reminds of imagery from the Ralph Bakshi film Wizards while what we're used to Chocobos looking like was prototyped by creatures in Nausica of the Valley of The Wind.
It’s amazing what ages of design changes can do for a character
For example
The chocobo now, versus its original concept

For the second time in 3 months, for Fullmetal Alchemist's popularity brings it back as the cover feature on Newtype Magazine for March 2004 with 10 full pages of info. Let's look inside!
Looking ahead at the upcoming story elements, we get our first look at the Laboratory 5 story line with four pages.
We have a two page spread covering the ladies of the show, then another two page spread featuring interviews with Romi Park, Rie Kugimiya, Tōru Ōkawa, and Keiji Fujiwara. The last two pages are dedicated to the secondary characters we've been introduced to over the last few weeks, plus a bit of information on the new OP/ED everyone's been enjoying!
Monthly rankings!
FMA lands at #2 most popular show going into March after sitting in #1 entering February (Flame vs Fullmetal did great things for the popularity!).
Ed occupies #2 most popular male character (down from #1 in Feb), Roy holds steady at #5. Riza sits at #3 most popular female character (down from #2), and Winry is at #5 (down from #3). FMA DVD 1 ranks #3 best selling anime DVD behind Gundam Seed Vol 10 and Nausica Valley of the Wind's first DVD release (previously VHS only).
And still crushing it 3 months later, Melissa comes in as the 2nd best selling anime single, just behind the new Astroboy theme song.
Finally, the Furoku purchase bonus this month is an FMA sticker book, with 10 pages of stickers from the illustrations featured in Newtype the prior few months!
For the April preview, Gundam returns to the cover, but don't worry there's going to be a whole lot more FMA too!

Can you tell me a little bit about White Candy? ✨
absolutely! thank you for asking, @the-golden-comet! White candy is a WIP that's really only in the conceptualization stages. its a Mystery/action with some solarpunk/steampunk themes. think Frostpunk paired with Nausica: Valley of the Wind.
White Candy is set on a tidally locked world, in the Sunside City of Liuzhou Zhaxin. it follows Chia Xailan, a former Assassin in her 40's who now works at Xue tu kezahn(snow rabbit inn) after retiring from Mercinary work. there she protects her young coworker Marie Caspa and serves customers like any other Barmaid, until strange occurences begin in her city.
heres a proper synopsis:
You can retire from the Maidenhood of Glass, but it never retires you. it haunts you, like a ghost lurking around every corner. So when Chia Xailan, Formerly dreaded as Ailan Zhuxi, gets a seemingly inconspicuous visit from a former coworker, she know's somethings wrong. and between strange tales from her patrons, odd discrepancies others would overlook, and a increased police presence in her town, Chia knows that she may have to make use of her assasination skills-turned-party-tricks back to their old ways once again.
Thank's for the ask once again, lemme know if you want to know even more. cheers!

Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind - Blog Post
The anime Nausicaa of the valley of wind was a beautiful tale highlighting the extremes of global environmental destruction and how we must come together to coexist with our planet in favor of a better future. Nausicaa, our protagonist, lives in a world ravaged by a previous world ending event known as the “Seven Days of Fire “. This event was caused by the wars and engagement of different nations which ultimately led to the destruction of all modern civilization and the ecosystem as a whole. Following the Seven Days of Fire, the human population declined and split into several groups. Their location depends on the few safe regions left, like the Valley of the wind where Nausicaa lives. The other lands become the Toxic jungle where mutated animals and plants reside, creating a biome hazardous to human life. The valley's powerful winds carry away the harmful spores from the surrounding forest making it one of the few remaining areas survivable for humans.
Throughout the anime we see how Nausicaa has become friends with a large bug who is from the omhu race who resides in the jungle. They both encounter the truth of the toxic environment's purpose, as a reaction by nature to cleanse the toxins from the soil and water. This leads Nausicaa to begin advocation for a coexistence between the people and the nature they seek to destroy. By the final conflict we see how the people lust for the destruction of the toxic jungle and its inhabitants lead to a possible major catastrophe which will only worsen the current standings of everyone. This is only halted by Nausicaa herself, who in a last-ditch effort sacrifices herself to try and keep peace. This action leads to both sides realizing the results of their actions and backing down. Nausica is revived and can begin efforts to establish peace and coexistence between everyone.
This story has been the most in line with environmental changes not only affecting Japan but the entire planet. Japan has gone through major catastrophe with destruction to their environment from the ravages of war and industrialization. This anime teaches us that we are only hurting ourselves when taking the natural world for granted. We must find a way to live in harmony or we will reap the field we have sown.

Dune
We are finally getting good, true adaptations of Dune.
Other than Zendaya destroying another red head.
But Dune was first published n 1965. With the Big Three, (Robert A. Heinlein, Isaac Asimov, and Arthur C. Clarke), Dune is the biggest progenitor of modern Science Fiction. It was so foundational that it would be difficult to list all the intellectual properties based off it, but J. Michael Straczynski explicitly stated that Babylon 5 was an idea to create a long-arc driven space epic, like Dune. Warhammer: 40K stole half of it's premise from Dune. Hayao Miyazaki cited Dune as inspiration for Nausica of the Valley of the Wind, and this was the Manga that turned him into the famed movie director we all admire.
It's roughly equivalent to the Lord of the Rings of Sci-Fi.

Day 9: Underground - Cody Fry
Listen Here
That little light began to grow There was no where I could go And the ground began to shake No time left to hit the brake That little light was closing in And suddenly I'm floating
Song Fact Book
Released February 5, 2012
My Thoughts
Cody Fry has an absolutely gorgeous voice. Discovered him through a Carousel of Life and Symphony mash up on Youtube and I have not been able to go back. (Yes, I am a Studio Ghibli fan, absolutely loved Howl's Moving Castle, but I like Nausica and the Valley of Wind best)
This is kind of the epitome of instrumental storytelling for me, like it starts off slow and quiet and then the piece is just constantly moving until it reaches the highest point and then it's all flooding into this wonderful wave of sound and strings and then it fades away and you're left back in that little dark place, but you can still feel the brightness that was part of it all in the back of your mind.
Have I mentioned that I like trains and public transportation? Well now you know, and while this is about a relationship, I like to imagine it as an ode to the public transportation system.

🛠 🤔 ♻️ <33
tyyyy pía! witness my ramblings lol (procrastination ask game here)
🤔 What’s a story you’d love to write but haven’t even started yet?
currently i’ve been thinking a LOT about “sundown land”, which is technically in my intro post but is really only a few words in my notes app and a ✨vibe✨ in my brain. its about Shrike (annoying bitter runaway slowly dying from a disease that resembles hanahaki) and Ariel (a very sweet, very spaced out artificial construct who’s creator has recently gone missing) on a roadtrip across a country littered with fallen titans (ala nausica and the valley of the winds giant warriors) while they try to find the mythical “sundown land”, which features prominently in a lot of popular childrens stories. it was originally gonna be a short story but now i get more novella vibes from it. “finding closure” the silly little soft fantasy book i think about it a lot i wanna write it soooooo bad.
🛠 Is there a scene or anything in the WIP you are struggling with right now?
currently struggling with the idea that this story has to have a plot 😔 right now i’m kinda in the weeds working through the middle of lmd and getting periodically hit with the “oh god is this actually going anywhere at all” crisis and then i have to re-read my original notes/what i’ve written for later in the story to help me Not Spiral
♻️ A scrapped idea for your current WIP
currently i’m grappling with whether or not to cut the “true name” magic from lay me down (aka ghost story) and it’s been a whole grieving process lol. the concept of people in The Library(tm) using fake names was a very early thing i came up with while writing the story and it’s very very fun, but also doesn’t quite mesh with the wider apocalypse-juice-based magic system i have going on. i might wait until this draft is done to officially make a decision on this though JUST to see if i can make it work somehow, but it’s probably gonna have to go and tbh the plot won’t really be affected if it does. sorry pallas but i’m sure you’ll be able to live without your edgy little nickname lol
