Am I gonna gush about Sumire at 5am? you bet ur ass i am. this is long.

HOW THE HELL did this random kny oc I made who i thought i was gonna forget abt become one of my main ocs??  simply. i like kny and i like making characters. anyway this has spoilers of my fic if. if thats something anyone cares about LMAO

this is p much only a few of the reasons why sumi is my main lol anyway anyway, once upon a time in 2019 my friends egged me on to write a oneshot involving her since I guess i was in the mood to write?

that oneshot ended up being 20-ish pages, but i went insane and wrote another 500 pages. it just be like that sometimes yknow? There’s a lot of unintentional greatness with her story and character which came mostly as a surprise to me while I was still writing the fic! 

Writing Bittersweet Melancholy rlly helped me delve into writing as a hobby, and i couldn’t be more happier! 

Back to unintentional greatness, some examples would be the hidden purple accents in her overall character design that tied in with her theme of balance, the sun and the moon (red+blue yknow), the irony that was her perfecting her physical balance but mental balance being WACK, how she ties in some of the other charas like Inosuke, Kanao and Douma. most of that was unintentional and came while i proofread the fic, so i went back to work them more into her story! At most, I’m really happy with her connections to Inosuke and Douma when it comes to emotions. ugh. im rlly happy w/ that. also the oc deaths being symbolic was intentional but it still felt big brain. this fic felt big brain. dshgvfdhgv

One other thing i’m proud of was the portrayal of humanity thru demons etc. My demon ocs, douma, saki, sayuri, and sumire herself. The fact that sumi’s scars resemble a failed decapitation, sayuri’s humanity returning as she died, and how in my au douma caused his own death by explaining blossoms of nightfall (the hidden breath form) when saki wouldn’t. Also, sumi’s mental struggle from guilt and viewing herself as a demon. The symbolism thats the design in her eyes resembling a lotus, a flower that comes thru from murky waters to bloom, and how the climax of her story is. also lol saki having to deal w/ stalker douma bc the nature breathing philosophy was *chefs kiss* to the man.

OH YEAH NATURE BREATHING. i’m rlly happy with how it turned out. the forms being based on seasons was just to tie it in w/ nature, but it also meant the passage of time tied in w/ sumire wallowing despite it having been 4 years since Sayuri. blossoms of nightfall having two requirements, acceptance of life/death and to be mentally balanced w/ emotions, otherwise oop ur killed by ur own breath technique since you couldn’t accept nature lolol mother nature said fuck you.

I initially didnt ship inosuke w/ sumire (she was meant to be standalone) but my best friend liked the idea of the ship and i went with it. it turned out to be a perfect fit (oops). Inosuke is my comfort chara too so i loved writing him and diving deeper into how he is as a character when it comes to emotions, and him helping sumire who knows way too much abt how she feels to the point of lying abt it, vs Inosuke who’s got no damn clue what emotions are lol

I actually lowkey ship Sumire with Kanao too bc!! its cute too!! they have some cute moments in my fic and have a somewhat similar issue with different stories, and at certain points help each other out in a significant way. we stan.

i may simp for douma but he did play a major serious fitting role in the story and helped me connect sumi to an UM. Sumire getting beat up by douma in their first fight and getting spared intentionally mirroring what she does to herself mentally. denying him meaning she couldnt accept the nature philosophy. Accepting him at the end of the second battle was like unbinding her own chains after years of ptsd that took months to lessen, i was satisfied af with that conclusion u dont even know. feral blossoms of nightfall sumire badass too its what she deserves so lets take a moment to thank the stupid rainbow eye demon (he doesnt deserve it)
