Here's an hilarious thought:

Y'know when Hatanaka said that Haruaki would be a bad spook target for scare and pranks practice?

Imagine they're going on a school trip on Natsume's living area, or coincidentally both schools being in the same vacation zone,

The 2-3 prowl for the perfect target, only for every single students reporting to Hatanaka and Haruaki they got one punched straight in the face by an unsuspectingly bean sprout looking teen around their age, pain feeling close to same as getting fried by Haruaki's anti Youkai power.

The teachers went after the "delinquent" that was "bullying" their students, thinking it probably was an exorcist. Although Hatanaka had to drag Haruaki by the bottom of his pants, because of his fear of delinquents.

When they spots Natsume, Haruaki relaxed and is even a bit confused "but he doesn't look like a delinquent? Are you sure that's the guy? He doesn't seem dangerous."

Class: says the scaredy cat with anti-youkai powers...

Haruaki approaches the silver/blond teen.

"excuses me -"

The teen's immediate reaction was to throw a right hook. Haruaki bent over in a grass like manner to avoid it, while letting out a shriek.

"What the heck was that for! Don't hurt meeeeee!"

The teen staggered before barely composing himself.

"O-oh, my bad..." He apologized, looking around him in a very jumpy manner.

"Are you okay?" The teacher asked, concerned by his behavior.

"I-I'm fine!" The teen tried to smile before grumbling "I just ran into a lot of nuisances today..."

The classes riled up at the insult.

Only for Hatanaka to jump behind him with his scythes out, his inner delinquent coming out

"Who are you calling nuisances -"

The bespectacled Youkai flopped on the floor in his weasel form, knocked out, as the teen was panting heavily with a steaming fist.

"... I take you don't have a great story with ayakashi?" Haruaki asked tentatively, while crying and shaking on the inside.

"You can see them too??" The teen asked.

Haruaki didn't know what to answer.

"The farthest from me the better." The teen huffed.

"That's a pretty nasty hook you have here." The teacher said instead, while collecting up the weasel.

"After getting jumped on so many times, it became a reflex..." the younger male said. "... You know this Youkai?..."

"that's a friend of mine -"

"You're an ayakashi too?" The silver/blond immediately took the defensive.

"uwah! No! I'm human!" Haruaki panicked.

"An exorcist perhaps? And that's your shiki then?" The teen still didn't relax.

"Y-you could say that!" The teacher decided to lie. "He and I are on a tourist trip, I apologize for scaring you." He bowed, while muffling Hatanaka's mouth.

"My apologies for knocking him out." The teen bowed back.

He then straightened up.

"I better get going."

He bid the teacher goodbye and left.

Haruaki sighed in relief, crying into Hatanaka's fur, much to the latter's annoyance.

"Seimei..." Maizuka came up with the rest of the class.

"Did you and Miki have a secret child?"

Natsume Yuujinchou x YoHaji

Y'know, I'm debating on making the 2-3 class visible to human eyes or not.

Here's the thing, I didn't show much of the students in the writing bit because I'm still unsure:

- In YoHaji, all Youkais are visibles to humans

- in Natsume Yuujinchou, people can see or sense youkais under specific conditions:

If you have powerful spiritual energy, are in possession of an artefact or a Youkai possessing you

If the Youkai is an entity that can shift into something making themselves visible (object, animals, etc) or something that makes them human (like the baby fox)

If the Youkai is powerful enough to be seen (unsure of how it works but the episode of that young boy being friend with Natsume and co made me very emotional)

Or, if you're in an area with a very important quantity of energy (again, unsure how it works or how to explain. c.f. The episode where Tanuma and Natori have to rescue Natsume from the manor)

Hence me wondering if the 2-3 should be visible to humans.

On one hand I thought that they could be visible and blend in for those who can take a humanoid appearances (apologies to Daisy and Marilyn but they'll either be invisible or pass off as an umbrella and a mop of hair), but that would contradict a bit with the times Natsume got tricked into thinking he's talking to a human until someone ask why he's alone.

Or, only the animal Youkais in their animal forms, Utagawa (formerly a human), Sano (being a God) and Nyuudo (half human) being visible.

That one could be funny and easier for this big crowd to move unseen during shenanigans, but also some angst for the last three as they might get the same treatment as Natsume for talking to thin air, not to mention the unpleasant feeling to be stuck between two worlds (three in Sano's case). Not to mention that Nyuudo will constantly need to hide his face in public.

Daydreaming about Natsume Yuujinchou x YoHaji.

So many ideas in mind 🤣

Here's one:

The gang or the class goes on vacation or touristic visit nearby the area where Natsume lives. Haruaki, with his universal "luck", manages to get lost. As he is failing to find his way back, he walks into Natsume and Nyanko-sensei, who unbeknownst to the teen, senses Haruaki's spiritual power, and possibly recognize him (or more likely his ancestor).

After Haruaki bawling his eyes out and Natsume begrudgingly agreeing to guide him to his class, they talk and get to know each other a little bit.

Of course, Haruaki omits the part about his class being a bunch of Youkais and Natsume keeps his abilities and the book of friends under wraps.

Until a local ayakashi goes after said object.

Natsume, not wanting to involve his new "acquaintance", tries to make a mad dash for it... Only to be spooked the hell out of him by Haruaki following him because he didn't want to be left alone.

It's when he asks the silver/gold haired teen about why he was targeted by a Youkai.

Natsume skids to a stop, causing Haruaki to crash into him and sending Nyanko-sensei into a bush.

"You can see it?!" He grasps the teacher up to his feet.

Haruaki makes his confused face.

"This guy is like you, Natsume." The maneki neko jumps out, scaring the crap out of the brunette. "He has a powerful ancestry DNA."

"A talking cat? Are you a Bakeneko? Or maybe a nekomata -" the teacher flips into his book, only to have it smacked into his face.

"Don't compare the majestic me ([Ore-sama]) to those low ranked small fry!" The cat huffs.

Haruaki let out a cry of pain, and outrage regarding calling his nekomata student a low ranked small fry.

Natsume didn't have the time to ask any question as the ayakashi came back.

He readies himself to protect the older male -

"Leave the kid alone!"

Natsume shields his eyes, barely able to see Haruaki standing before him, generating a bright and giant pentagram who obliterates the ayakashi to unconsciousness.

"What the heck..."

"Are you okay?" Haruaki asked him.

"I... I think so - HMPFFFF!!!??"

Natsume finds himself in a tight embrace as Haruaki bawls his eyes out again.

"THANK GOODNESS! THAT WAS SO SCARY, WAAAAHHHH!"

"Let... Me... Go..." The teen struggles. "I... Said... LET GO!"

Haruaki is lying on the ground, nursing a growing bump as Natsume's fist was steaming.

"You're... As ruthless as... Sano..." The teacher whined.

"Oi."

Natsume turns around, to see a group of students looking not so sympathetically at him.

"What do you think you're doing to our teacher, huh?" A red headed guy with an eye patch creaked his knuckles.

"Yare yare..." Nyanko-sensei yawned before plopping up on a wall.
