A tale of two desks, #Australiana at its best.... this first is Captain Cook’s desk, Indian Rosewood circa 1760: only knee-high, it apparently went on his voyages so he had somewhere to write his journals - but also includes a built-in backgammon drawer! I had heard about it, and so it was a thrill to see it in the flesh at the #australiannationallibrary #Canberra. The second desk is full size, and important as it is a drafting table designed & built for Walter Burley Griffin, the American architect who designed Canberra in the 1920’s.... on show at the #nationalgallerycanberra .
