My favorite interpretation of Rach 2 (the first movement is my #1). The vibrance, the clarity, the passion... Zimerman’s lyrical phrasing and effusive energy is second to none. I’ll never, ever tire of this piece.

TURN OFF THE LIGHT is one of my favorite concept albums. It’s theatrical, maximalist, and fun, and the production is truly so pleasing to listen to with a pair of nice cans or IEMs.

Before the album dropped, I had absolutely no idea Kim Petras is German. When this part came on, I was like whoa, she speaks excellent German and this part truly fucks we need more German lines in songs, actually. Little did I know...

I associate Man to Man with @redpaint​‘s fic of the same title. A cultural reset. The cornerstone of 2019 Seb/Charles especially, the song and the fic capture the essence of their dynamics so well. What a tune, what a fic. Thank you Nat mwah :*

so uh. dearest rat nedpaint. last summer in the soup exchange I signed up to write you a fic and I delivered the first chapter, with grand delusions that I'd finish it posthaste and uphold my end of the exchange. anyway that didn't happen so the fic is languishing

anyway, second chapter twist and the premise of the entire fic is that lando isn't just a damn good driver, he's actually a demon and when daniel has a mental snap and basically throttles lando in a scuffle about what lando knows that daniel doesn't, lando transforms into his supernatural form and goes for blood. it's more of a panic response than anything malicious, because daniel threw the first punch, but lando is literally a devil and daniel gets pretty scraped up in the ensuing fight. so daniel flees the scene, lando collapses, and when daniel gets to safety he does a pat-down and realises he's got these wicked scratches on his neck and shoulders, so he cleans them up and hopes this was a dream.

it doesn't come up again in the next week and daniel starts to think he hallucinated all of it, except his wounds are very much real and taking quite a while to heal, and then at the next race weekend when he's around lando again they get infected. he sneaks a look at lando's hands and sees his nails are bitten short. daniel's slow-burn nervous breakdown begins here because he doesn't know if it happened or he's going certifiably insane.

anyway, he gets absolutely spanked the next race and starts to think it's more likely that lando is a demon than that he's actually worse than his baby teammate, but it's less likely he's a demon than that the two are them are just not in equal machinery.

he talks to michael about it, michael doesn't believe him because daniel's played enough pranks before and cried wolf enough times. mikey says he doesn't give a shit about lando, he’s here for daniel and they’ll address daniel’s problem by focusing on him rather than his teamie

daniel still doesn’t give it up though and michael makes a fuss about getting a psychologist—not a sport psychologist, something more heavy-duty because daniel’s acting paranoid and actually destructive. lando continues to torment him from afar just by existing. daniel thinks hard about voodoo dolls

blake asks daniel what the fuck is up because he heard michael saying daniel is batshit and they need to get him under control. daniel tries to confide in blake but blake doesn’t believe him either because demons aren’t REAL, and then later daniel sees blake and michael chatting suspiciously then they stop when they see him. he’s being plotted around. he’s unstable. lando is still being a bitch

there's no tidy ending because I don't know if daniel should kill lando, lando should kill daniel, daniel should kill himself, or just retire and go to therapy. all of them are good options! so that's daniel's insanity speedrun any%

Definitely Monza. Although I think they’ll probably turn that into a general episode, considering the fact that they both DNFed lmao and the Lewis/Pierre/Carlos drama that ensued. There were some shots of that 1000th GP celebration so maybe Tuscany too? According to Will Buxton Netflix placed crews in the team bubble for a couple of race weekends each so we might be getting a mix.

so mugfic.... mugfic didn't really have a specific ~scene~ but more an overall vibe. fresh off of reading every single brock boeser/elias pettersson fic on ao3, back to back to back, I really wanted to import into the f1 fandom that sense of lighthearted predestination/foreknowing, the brand of casual yearning one might have while sharing a couch, the familiarity of knowing your buddy overlapping into loving your buddy and then telling them that, preferably in a boat or in a lakehouse or somewhere really close to water. dantteri, as a ship, deserved some light summer reading.

it was really hard to get the same comfortable familiarity into f1, because the sense of teammate bond present in hockey is just Not A Thing in this sport where you only have one teammate anyway and there's a part of you that always wants to kill him, just a tiny little unconscious bit. but I got the morning coffees in there, I got the talking shit on a shared couch after a game/session, I got the late night pool deck confession, I got the walking disaster local white boy who can't speak one language properly and the uptight blonde nordic dude he cares about sooooo bad. and it's reciprocal. it's the vibe <3

Oh, good question, I love this 👏🏻

So it was lockdown 2020 and not having much else going on in my life I decided it'd be a great time to get back into actively following F1 after a two or so year hiatus I took during college. I was sort of vaguely aware that there are new, young drivers on the grid and that they're doing some virtual GP streaming in lieu of racing, but I wasn't very interested at the time. Anyway two seasons of DTS were already out by then so I figured I'd binge that as a sort of speedrun catch-up of what I forgot or missed in 2018 and 2019. I eventually got to Seeing Red and my initial reaction was (as the crew behind DTS no doubt intended) that it's a tense, awkward partnership at best and an antagonistic one at worst. I was intrigued by Charles but didn't think much of Seb and Charles's dynamic as teammates, going off of DTS alone.

I ended back up on F1 Tumblr, as one does, and had a bit of an identity crisis seeing all the new urls/icons, my old mutuals having moved on from the fandom or not being active anymore. For a while I tried to "re-create" the vibe from 2015-16 and mainly focused on what I did know/remember, which was Brocedes content. But there were no new developments, the relationship had fizzled out, and honestly, so had my fondness and fascination. I ended up following a few blogs, or following back. I eventually ended up doing a binge-read of Nat (redpaint) and Matilda's (4mulaone) blogs and kind of soaking up the Sebchal dynamic/narrative in retrospect. And I found that there were a lot of moments that were conveniently left out of DTS - Charles being there for Seb's Monaco win in 2017, the entire Bahrain 2019 weekend, their awkward but charming challenges and Q&A videos, Charles's endless praise for Seb and Seb's teasing fondness. It hit me that they didn't hate each other at all.

I remember watching the two Austrian races live, but I hadn't documented that on Tumblr yet, so I wasn't present for the post-Styria meltdown, lol. The first post I reblogged of the two of them together was from the post-Spa qualy, where they nod and smile at each other in acknowledgement after both of them failed to make it to Q3. And I tagged that as #i'm liking this solidarity #disappointed but disappointed TOGETHER sjdjefj I watched their challenge videos and Q&As with this new perspective, no longer viewing them through DTS's narrow they hate each other lens.

Somewhere around then I also checked out their ao3 tag, which housed very few fics by then. I mean they could probably be considered a rarepair at the time. I think the first Sebchal fic I properly read with, like, an actual understanding of past events (like Brazil) was the now-iconic no flowers, no flashbulbs. Closely followed by Nat redpaint's binary evolution and the rest of the conflict resolution series. So those were definitely my introduction to the literary side of things.

Then obviously I started making my own content, mostly fanvids and edits (first with Sebchal as a parallel to Brocedes and then just Sebchal) and the rest is, as they say, history ;') It's been a wild ride and I don't regret any of it.
