My Hunt for a Barbershop in Nashville TN

As I began my search for a new barbershop in Nashville, Tennessee, I quickly realized that finding an old-fashioned, traditional barbershop was going to be more difficult than I anticipated. Many barbershops in Nashville were geared toward trendy hairstyles and modern men's grooming, which isn't my style. I prefer classic old-style barbering techniques such as hot towel shaves and straight razor shaves.

Barbershops in the 21st century are often confused with unisex salons that offer services like manicures and haircuts along with hair styling and coloring. These places usually don't carry the same feel as a man's first visit to a barbershop after getting out of the army or prison, where he can get his haircut from a highly skilled professional who gives great shaves and offers great conversation.

As one might expect, finding an old-fashioned barbershop in Nashville wasn't easy. Most barbershops in the area catered to men and women alike, but I was looking for one that was just for men. Hot towel shaves and straight razor shaves are quite rare these days. A few old-fashioned shops have begun to pop up recently. 

Sometimes it's a little tricky to find a barbershop that does all the things you need. We've all had this experience—you're looking for a new place and you find a listing on Yelp, but the haircutting services are listed as "weekend only," or it says, "not on Mondays." Or it's an hour away and there's no way in hell you want to drive an hour just for a haircut. You might even be lucky enough to find a place that serves food and drinks, but then again, when you got your last haircut there, you noticed the barber seemed distracted because he was talking on the phone the whole time. 

Maybe the shop is right downtown, but the parking garage is $10 or there's no parking at all. It can be frustrating. I've had these experiences myself. That's why I want to help out by giving my suggestions of where to get your next haircut in Nashville TN and surrounding areas. All three of these places are walk-in only and do not take appointments over the phone except for special circumstances (like if you're coming from out of town). They are all located in Nashville so you won't have to drive more than 20 minutes anywhere.
