Also as a Chastain fan, I'm kind of in hell! (Also feel for Bubba and Buescher, especially with how awful the win-and-your-in format is.)

Missed this one—and every time I’ve looked back at the 2024 calendar at a race I’ve missed I’ve been like “WHY, though. What could I possibly have been doing.” So for the sake of eliminating the mystery for my future self, I was demonstrating outside an ICE detention facility, which is one of very few actually valid reasons I would want to miss the Southern 500. At one point, we needed to move out of the way for a car that was coming to visit someone who was incarcerated, and on the walkie they said "a Subaru." I assumed it would be a Forester or something, but then a WRX with a big ol' wanggggg and an exhaust snap-crackle-popping up a storm rolled through. ✌️

As far as the race goes, congratulations to Chase Briscoe on Week 2 of the Marisa Briscoe Revenge Tour!

One of those strange races where the cars you expect to be competitive either performed exceptionally well or performed like actual trash garbage--if also a race where you'd never be able to guess which were which, because most of the best-performing cars ended up in the DNF trashbin by the end of the race. It was a really good day for the 5 until it was a kind of bad day; and it was a really good day for Buescher and Reddick until it was an absolutely abysmal day. I am not traditionally a Brad-enjoyer, but I'll admit he was my choice for the win, so this all panned out okay for me.

Reddick: Wrecked himself on the racetrack; wrecked by the rulebook on pit road; and then wrecked emotionally by Buescher's angry confrontation.

Buescher: whispering to himself, week in and week out, iamgod'sstrongestsoldieriamgod'sstrongestsoldier

I'm looking forward to All-Star next week, because everything's fun and nothing matters, and also because I didn't get to see North Wilkesboro last year!
